I got this nail varnish free with a magazine a couple of months ago. It retails for around £9.99 for 14ml usually which I don't think I would have paid - not because the product isn't any good but because my nails aren't in too bad condition so I don't think I'd be able to justify spending that much on a product I don't actually need!
The formula is enriched with calcium and ceramic and it is aimed at people who have soft, thin, ridged nails and it claims to thicken nails by 70% in four days. The bottle that this nail treatment comes in looks just like a nail varnish bottle. The bottle is purple and it has a pearly effect to it which looks nice and it has a shiny golden lid. Applying the product is very easy as it has the same sort of brush as any other nail varnish.
The nail treatment itself has got a gel-like consistency which dries quickly. Once it has dried, my nails look glossy and it makes my nails look brighter and healthier. It works well as a top coat which is what I use it for mainly but obviously if you are using this solely as a nail treatment it won't be as effective unless you put it directly onto your bare nails. If you have really thin nails it is recommended that you re-apply several coats of it over the course of four days.
It can also be used as a base coat to protect the nails but when I used it like this I found that my nail varnish didn't last any longer than usual and it actually chipped quite easily. As for how effective this product is, I am not too sure - I personally have not seen any noticeable improvement in my nails and I have had it for a couple of months and used it several times, however my nails don't break easily and aren't too soft or brittle or anything so I think for people who do have thin nails they will probably notice more of an improvement.
All in all I am going to give this product three out of five stars due to the lack of noticeable improvement in my nails but as I said it might work better for other people and the overall quality is good and it is very easy to use.
When I have put on some false nails as I mentioned in a previous review, afterwards when I take them off my real nails underneath are often fairly badly damaged. The false nails seem to make them thin and brittle and they are prone to splitting quite a bit. As I don't wear fake nails that often this is not a product I use all the time but to fix my real nails after use it has been a godsend.
Sally Hansen sell a number of different nail products such as nail varnish, treatments for your nails etc and they are really the only nail treatment product I have seen in Boots so to purchase this nail thickener from their range was pretty much a no brainer for me, I went right to that section and picked out something that looked and sounded like it would work for my thin nails.
The treatment comes in a little bottle, just like a bottle of nail varnish so my one tip would be that you do have to read the label of all these bottles as they often look the same and you can end up buying something that you didn't want. On the packaging it says that this nail treatment is an advanced calcium and ceramic gel thickening formula instantly bonds and seals thin, weak nails to build a hard, defensive shield that protects against bending and breaking. The fortifying treatment fills in ridges and imperfections so nails look smooth, healthy and shiny.
The substance inside has a bit of a gel consistency and is thicker than a nail varnish would be but still brushes on so it is not gloomy in any way. Its easy to coat each of your nails in the substance as you do apply it just like nail varnish and then let it go to work. To use it properly you apply it to your nails with nothing on them obviously. the first time I did it I just used that and nothing else but I found it only lasted on my nails a day or two before it peeled off, this may be due to the gel like consistency or it may be due to the fact that I used a lot of product on each nail. What I then did was apply some of the product and then use nail varnish over the top which kept it sealed in for a few more days. The instructions say to remove and repeat after 4 days so this lasted that long and then I was able to do it again.
Each time I wear false nails I probably use this treatment 2 or 3 times afterwards and I have found that it does really clear up my nails and get them back to being non flaky and thin again. I can then use them to open bottles and things like that that need a strong nail without worrying that they are going to split again.
Now, this is quite an expensive treatment at £10 per bottle but if like me you don't use it all the time then I think its worth it as one bottle lasts for a couple of months and works well so is something I recommend.
