I buy a lot of Rimmel make-up because it is usually so good but they have a few duff products in their line up too such as this mascara. It is supposed to give really big and defined lashes thanks to the brush but I just think the brush is a weird shape and it doesn''t help with coating lashes and if anything it is more difficult to use than a normal mascara brush. It doesn''t seem to load up properly with the mascara and almost feels like there is hardly anything inside even when it is new and full of mascara. It almost feels like you are dipping the brush into an empty tube and when you do finally have enough mascara on the brush it takes a few coats to get anything like the effect I want and even then it clumps my lashes up instead of separating them. The mascara had a really dry consistency which made applying it difficult and because it was so dry feeling it actually clumped my lashes together instead of separating them. They didn''t look long or luscious and even the colour was dull and muted. There was nothing about this mascara which I thought was good and there are loads of other mascaras which are better than this and which cost a lot less money. This costs 6.99 which is far too much money for something that feels and looks extremely cheap on your lashes and I wouldn''t recommend it. I expect better from Rimmel and usually they do really nice make-up but unfortunately this time it wasn''t up to their normal standard and I certainly wouldn''t consider buying it ever again.
I've always been a big fan of mascara, its the staple in my makeup draw. I think every girl wants thick black voluminous lashes, on the mascara it says 'No lash can escape! Scandalous volume, no clumps!'.
I've been using this mascara every day for a few months now after receiving it as a birthday gift and I think its a great find. I usually go for smaller brushes as they are supposed to define your lashes but I think the brush on this mascara is brilliant it may be really big but don't be intimidated. I usually see big brushes and automatically think of clumps but not with this mascara it gives you beautiful thick lashes without the fake eyelashes.
I think the only problem with this for me would be that it isn't waterproof so it doesn't withstand all of the daily routine of my life and I have a habit of rubbing my eyes so I end up with panda eyes at the end of the day not a good look!
This mascara is available at most stores like superdrug and boots but I get my makeup from markets as they are a lot cheaper than stores usually half the price. Although sometimes boots and superdrug have good offers- currently at boots its £6.99 which is still a bit expensive but it is a good quality mascara.
- available most places
- well known makeup brand
- clump free thick lashes
- cheaper compared to high end makeup brands
- not water proof
- can be expensive
I think this is a great mascara although I'm going to try different ones when mine runs out as there's always new mascaras coming out and this isn't a holy grail for me. If this is on offer in one of the shops I'd want to buy it again.I 'd definitely recommend it to a friend though, I recommended it to my sister recently and she loves it too shes even stopped wearing her false lashes as much.
I love this mascara! I use it all the time! It gives me dramatic, extra long lashes on the first coat! The second coat makes me look like I'm wearing falsies. I have no cons for this mascara, it never fails to give me huge, black, dramatic and volumised lashes! I re-purchase this everytime I run out! This honestly does wonders to my lashes, in just a few coats you have stunning lashes that could be false. You also can control it for example if you just wanted to have a little bit on if you were going To school you could just do one coat. A fabulous mascara that has been a favourite of mine for so long. I can't describe exactly how great this is. You just have to go and buy one now. If I did have to point out a downside I can never find a waterproof version of this exact scandeleyes. A great great product.
Comparable to so many great mascaras out there.
There are three versions of Rimmel's Scandal Eyes Mascara-
The Rimmel Scandal Eyes Volume Flash Mascara (orange packaging)
The Rimmel Scandal Eyes Show Off Mascara (purple packaging)-
The Rimmel Scandal Eyes Retro Glam Mascara (black and white packaging)
I personally own the orange original Volume Flash Scandal Eyes Mascara.
This version comes with a fiber brush, and it's huge! It's the biggest mascara brush I've ever seen and it does have the potential to create quite the mess so you do have to go nice and slowly when you're applying this one.
Once you've got past the fiddly job of applying, your lashes are left huge; both lengthened and volumized after just one coat, and two coats sens them into another dimensions. You get the false lash effect without wearing false lashes.
The mascara lasts all day on me, it doesn't flake or smudge and it hols the curl in my lashes too.
Rimmel Scandal Eyes is a fantastic mascara that doesn't cost the Earth retailing at £6.99 on the Boots website.
So I actually didn't have to purchase this product. I actually take surveys on prettypriceless.com.
It's just a little survey site where you take surveys, earn points and get free make up, accessories and more, sent to your home.
I chose this particular product because I have read reviews on this mascara, good and bad, but I though I'd like to give it a try myself.
I received this product in my mail box with in four weeks after ordering on prettypriceless.com and I was very excited to try it out!! I used it the next day before heading out to run some errands and at first it seemed to be doing a great job. It made my lashes look fuller and a little longer but after a couple of hours of doing errands, I got in my car and did the occasional glance at myself in the mirror and I noticed little black flakes on the corners and under my eye. I also noticed in the sunlight how clumpy my lashes looked. Needless to say, I was quite disappointed.
As far as purchasing this product, you can purchase it in the U.S. at drug stores for $1.50 or so and I noticed that on amazon this product goes for 1.98 pounds?? I am from the U.S. but I do realize this is a U.K. site so I wanted to try to put a U.K. price on here to.
Would I recommend this product, yes and no. Yes, because if you are one of those people, (like me) who would like to experience this product for yourself then I say go for it. ..... and no because I didn't have the best experience with this product.
I hope you all found this review helpful.
Thanks for reading!!
Oh, mascara how I love you. I have tried numerous mascaras in my time, and I am still on the quest for the one that is perfect for me. I think the problem with reviewing mascaras is that everyone is looking for something slightly different. I am one of those people that want it all; I want it to lengthen and volumise, with only one (or at a push two) coats, I don't want any clumps, and I want it to be waterproof but easy to remove, all for a reasonable price. Ha, I know what you're thinking
1) "Keep Dreaming"
2) "Needy, and demanding much?
So my opinion of this mascara...
Firstly, the packaging, it's very typical of drugstore mascaras the plastic tube, the only difference being, it's lime green I would like the packaging to be a bit more luxurious, but I'm not too caught up on how it looks.
Secondly, the brush... one word MASSIVE. It is very large, and that is exactly what some people are look for. Me? Not so much, but I can work with it. On the plus side, the brush does have bristles rather than the plastic spikes.
Lastly, the formulation, it makes my lashes look reasonably long, and after two coats I do get a nice amount of volume. It's not too wet, which is a massive bonus, but it's also not too dry and it doesn't clump at all. I hate it when you apply a wet mascara, then blink and end up with it everywhere.
Also, on a tangent, a mascara with a scent is the weirdest thing, I recently tried a Maybelline mascara that smelt like nappy bags... Nice.
I will definitely finish this off, but I'm not sure that I would purchase it again.
I have quite light and thin eyelashes, so like to wear mascara everyday to give myself a more wide eyed look. However, I don't really like to spend a lot on mascara as I find a lot are very overpriced for what they are. I bought scandaleyes mascara when it was on offer for £4.99, it is normally around the £6.99 mark in high street make up stores.
This mascara was easy to put on and definitely made my eyelashes look a lot bolder. The brush is quite thick however, so can be difficult to navigate and makes it quite easy to smudge mascara on your face by accident.
The main problem I have had with this mascara is that it has started to dry up a little bit around the top, this means that when I unscrew the lid, I often find little bits of dried mascara flake off and get over your clothes. Not exactly something you want when you've just put on a nice clean outfit. But I'm sure if you wipe it down regularly after use you can avoid this product.
I often fall asleep with my make up still on, and have never found that this mascara has irritated my eyes or skin by sleeping in it.
I would definitely recommend this item to a friend, and I myself would probably buy it at the more expensive price than what I originally paid.
The contents of my make up is mainly by Rimmel. I'm always very happy with their products and I like their prices as I do not like to spend lots of money on make up. I spotted this mascara in Boots when they were doing their 3 for 2 offer on Rimmel make up, which is on quite often. I normally by Rimmel's Glam eyes Lash flirt mascara but thought I would give a different one a try. The RRP for this mascara is normally £6.99.
The first thing that I noticed about this mascara is it's insanely bright packaging, the tube is luminous orange with black writing on saying 'Volume flash Scandaleyes mascara' and the smaller writing claims 'No lash can escape! Scandalous volume, no clumps!'.
On opening the mascara I noticed that the brush is very thick and is quite thickly covered in mascara, I was worried this would mean clumps all over my eyelashes but I didn't find this to be the case. My eyelashes are a big part of my make up regime and I wear several layers of mascara most days, I am blessed to have long eyelashes so I like to make the most of them. I find that this mascara does exactly what I want it to, it is a lovely deep black, which does come on thickly but doesn't make my eyelashes stick together. It does what it claims and does give my eyelashes volume which I need on days when I only wear mascara and no other make up. I do think that this mascara would not be suitable for someone who likes to just wear a small amount of mascara and likes a more natural look because as I say it comes on thickly and it is very obvious you have mascara on. I've also found it washes off fine with a face wash and water, not so much with cleanser and cotton wool (definite panda eyes!).
My only problem with this mascara is it can be quite messy, because the mascara comes out quite thickly on the brush I found within a few days there was mascara all around the rim of the tube, maybe I'm just messy!
Overall I'd give this mascara 3 stars as it is perfect for anyone who likes to use alot of mascara and for a night out but not suitable for natural make up wearers. I would buy it again but will probably stick to the mascara I used before this one.
I bought this mascara not expecting much, but was really pleasantly surprised with it. The little ball on the tip on the brush is super good at getting the corner lashes that are so hard to get with a normal brush. It really gives a cat eye effect as it lengthens the outside lashes. I also thought the consistency of the mascara itself was really good, although it was particularly volume enhancing at first but after a few layers looked great.
Overall I did really like this mascara but I did have some issues removing it with quite a bit getting stuck on my lashes. I try to avoid using an oil based eye makeup remover because I have very oily skin anyway, but this seemed the only kind to remove it fully. I also would love it if they made this make in a waterproof version!
Overall I would buy this product again and just deal with using an oily make up remover
I bought this 12ml mascara for £6.99 in Boots. I thought this was a reasonable price - it seems about average for similar 'high street' mascaras. I have used some Rimmel mascaras before and also some of their other products so I wasn't too worried about the risk in spending a few pounds on a new mascara and at the time I was in need of a new mascara! Sometime rimmel products are on offers at boots like 3 for 2 etc so it may be worth holding out for such an offer to save more ££.
This is a big chunk tube of mascara which I can think adds to value for money, as you feel like you get a lot for what you paid for. The big tube also makes it easier to grip the mascara during application, although it can also feel a bit clumpy. The other downfall to the big size is that I find it difficult to fit it into my make up bag.
The tube is a bright orange colour which reminds me of going out and 'raving'! Whist I think the colour of the packaging is fun and stands out, it is difficult to read what is written on the side. The way the font increases in size however made me imagine how the mascara would increase the size of my lashes in a falsie like fashion (I am rubbish at putting falsies on so will avoid at al costs)!
Application of product wasn't easy! Whilst big wand fits into the hand easily (and isn't fiddly like some smaller wands can be) it also meant the brush on this was bigger. Bigger brush = lots of clumps. The bristles on the brush were also so close together that applying to the eyelashes was literally like putting a paint brush to your eyes. Not great!
Whilst the mascara did increase the volume in my lashes, and the colour was a lovely jet black there was perhaps a bit too much volume. The result was spidery like lashes! Not a good look!
As I've only used this product a few times I cannot comment on longevity of this. I suppose there are different strokes for different folks and I know some people who have got on really well with this mascara but it really isnt for me.
Difficult to use brush
Sorry but this one's not for me!
Item: Rimmel Scandaleyes
Bought in: Small local chemist
I bought this one day when I had gone on a weekend away and forgot to take my mascara with me. It was a desperation buy in a little country store with very limited options. The only other option was a waterproof mascara and as I didn't have water proof make up pads with me opted for this one.
Packaging and design:
This is a big beefy tube of mascara. It is 12cm long but at the widest part is 2.5cm wide. It is really bulky and does not fit nicely in my makeup bag. When you take the wand out the lid is 5cm long and the wand is 3cm long and over 1cm wide (which is quite wide for a mascara). As the lid is so bulky it is really difficult to hold and you feel quite awkward and it takes a few twists of the wrist to feel able to get it near your eye. The bristles on the brush are all the same length and are very dense and close together. The brush actually gathers up way too much mascara and no matter what you try, it always come out the tube with a big dollop dripping off the end. Which then requires a wipe against the opening of the tube that results in the mascara going all over the tube as the mascara is very sticky and doesn't quite all go back in the neck of the tube. The tube is bright pink and quite an eye sore. It is bold but quite cheap looking and not what I would have picked if there had been other options. The word "scandaleyes" is written across the tube in increasing size of font as if it is being shouted. The name Rimmel is written in really small letters so it is really hard to see and the back simply tells you the size and "No lash can escape scandalous volume, no clumps". Not very informative.
Application and effect:
As this was in a sealed package when I bought it, I hadn't seen the brush so when I took it out of the tube for the first time, I was terrorised. The brush is massive and thick. As I mentioned no matter how you pull the brush out, too much mascara comes out and it is very sticky and runny so is hard to get excess off the brush. Once I had scraped off as much excess as I could, I tried to get it on my eye lashes. This was quite an effort as the lid is so thick it makes it awkward to hold, then the brush is big so when trying to get it on my lashes it gave a thick and very wet coat to the middle, but as the brush is thick I couldn't quite get to the inner and outer edges and when trying, extra just went all over the middle making them way to thick. Then when I tried to do the bottom lashes it literally went all over my under eye as the mascara is so wet that it hung off the lower lashes and smudged all over the skin. I even managed to hit my skin with the brush as I couldn't see what I was doing as the brush covered pretty much my whole bottom eyelashes. I had to clear this off with tissue paper then had the idea to wipe ALL the excess mascara off the brush with tissue paper and use the dry brush to distribute some of the excess mascara already on my eye lashes. This worked better but if you had to do this every time it would really waste a lot of mascara. Once I had on an acceptable amount I actually dried my eye lashes with the cool setting of my hair dryer as they felt like they were still wet after a few minutes. It did stay on for a few hours but when I got home I could see little spots had started to drop on my face so I am glad I hadn't had to stay out any later or I would have had panda eyes. It also smells really strongly of hot tar and plastic and that does last a while as it takes so long to dry.
I hate wasting anything so have tried to use this mascara with an old mascaras wand that I have washed and now keep the extra wand and this full mascara in an old tupperwear box (to keep the mascara off everything it touches). Not ideal but this is just to save totally wasting that money. It does work a bit better with the other wand but I tend to wear it only when I have plenty time to let it dry and not if I am going to be out all day for fear of it smudging.
Overall a big disappointment from Rimmel. This is a really old fashioned version of a product that they make is much better variations. The tube is cheap looking and too bulky and the mascara is poor quality.
The Rimmel ScanadalEyes mascara has a cool funky packaging in a fuschia colour, and definately made it stand out compared to the rest. I had heard about this mascara from a makeup artist friend of mine (she only uses products from boots and superdrug, it's cheaper) and said I should definately try it, so lo and behold, I did!
At first I didn't like the brush, I usually use my own brush in all mascaras because I'm used to it, but I used this one purely for the review. The mascara looked moist and not clumped, which was awesome as I hate it when mascara gets clumpy. I put it on my lashes evenly and although it was a little thick, it didn't make my eyelashes look like spiders legs or too fake, so that was a plus!
I also put the mascara on my bottom lashes too, and it didn't make them thick and clumped which totally sucks and usually smudges.
However, during application the mascara did smudge a little. It went on my eyelids though could have been user error.
After 6 hours of wear I did not need to re apply as it was still perfect on my lashes (After I'd cleaned up the smudges that is ;)) and it stayed on great.
The packaging would be better if it wasn't just pink as it is a typical "girl" colour.
I like to try the newest mascaras but generally don't pay more than £6-7 for one. I bought the Rimmel Scandaleyes mascara from Boots for £6.99 for a 12ml tube. The tube I bought came in a hot-pink/purple colour and was quite chunky in size. Other tubes were bright colours also such as a neon orange. This gives the mascara a young, trendy feel, but doesn't quite give an air of luxury or quality.
The brush is a fairly good size and comes out well coated with product, although I have found that there always seems to be excess of the end of the wand. The mascara goes on smoothly, without clumps and the wand is just the right size to plump up lashes without smudging mascara everywhere. You can apply multiple layers, but this is not something that I do, and you get quite a dramatic look with just the one coat.
The mascara dries quickly and leaves lashes looking plumped up, well coated and longer. There is no flaking with long-wear and it comes off easily at the end of the day.
This is not the best mascara that I have ever used, however, for the price tag it delivers on all of its promises and I have had no problems with it. A great mascara for the money.
The packaging of the mascara is really funky in a fuchsia tube.I really loved the feel of it.When I first opened the mascara I was surprised! The tube felt as it was empty or used. The brush came out nearly dry as well.I assumed that the formula of this mascara must be dry.So I was right it has very dry formula and there is nothing in it that I am loving except the packaging,
Though they had put great effort in creating the wand. The ball like tip really helped to put mascara on my lower lashes like no other wand.
I applied two coats to my lashes for a better result but I am greatly disappointed after even 2 coats.May be If I take out more time & apply 2 more coats it would look better. But what is in a mascara when you have to apply 4 coats!!
Plus it says Lashes with no clumps....My lashes were very clumpy.
I am disappointed at Rimmel at making such an unworthy product. The last mascara I used Maxfactor False lash effect which is a hard one to beat i must say!
May be I ll use only the ball end of the mascara to apply mascara on the lower lashes from another tube!If you know what I mean...
The staying power is good though. It lasts around 7-8 hours on my lashes without coming down. But what to do with staying power when it doesn't apply decently.
I wasn't exactly blessed with the best eyelashes:
Lacking volume - yes
Lacking length - yes
So really I need all the help I can get from the mascara department. Now I am not the usual mascara user that may just use one mascara on her eyelashes, I will use multiple mascaras to achieve the look I desire and very few actually impress me on their own accord.
I picked up Scandal eyes at Sainsbury's in a 3 for 2 deal, I believe it was around £7.99 so definitely not a cheaper mascara. I could actually argue that certain cheaper mascaras are better than this. I also picked up the extreme black edition, I usually prefer my mascaras very black as I do have black hair and the shade usually has more impact. The packaging of this is orange and black and comes in a rather chunky bottle and then a large bristle brush for application.
On its own the mascara is actually quite lengthening, whereas it claims to have a fake lash effect, the volume aspect is actually the result of clumpy lashes, and on it's own I wasn't very satisfied with the mascara. However I do use this daily combined with a few other mascaras, it acts well as a "filler" and helps to lengthen out the lashes and add the volume, of which I remove the clumping with another mascara.
It is alright but over all I won't be purchasing it again.
