Looking around for a Mascara for a few years now and honestly. I have tried quite a lot, but this Mascara performs well producing no clumps and is easy to put on. Also i tend to look at the sensitivity as well because i am very sensitive on the eyes and this Mascara is very good for this feature.
When you use the Mascara all day i found out that it will smudge a little around the eyes as I rub my eyes this can happen. When I have been swimming the only thing is not to put the Mascara on too thick because this can cause a black eye effect and also smudges around the eyes. So when I go swimming I tend not to put Mascara on and wear eye liner underneath my eyes and on my eye brows and a touch of lipstick to give a better effect for facial features instead of Mascara a tip for you.
The price is reasonable and you cant go wrong using this product as for the smudges you can just touch up through out the day using cleansing wipes, if you are like me and rub your eyes.
I bought this mascara for my wedding day as I really thought I was going to end up crying a lot!
I always buy rimmel mascara so I wanted to stick to the same brand when I bought this for my wedding day. Really I wanted one with a comb end rather than the brush, as I was worried about getting the clumpy look - not my idea of attractive - but I asked in both Boots and Superdrug and in neither could the assistant find a me a waterproof mascara with a comb end. So I decided to stick with the brand I was used to and trust.
I have been really impressed with this waterproof mascara. It goes on really easily, it doesn't clump up, and looks really fine and lashes look individual. As for the waterproof-ness I managed not to cry on my wedding day, but I did where it a lot on honeymoon as we were in and out of the pool and sea. And no running = no beach panda-eyes! I was really impressed, and came off easily with my normal cheapy make-up remover wipes.
Overall, I would say this does exactly what it says on the tin - decent, low cost (cost me about a fiver) waterproof mascara.
Here I will be reviewing Rimmel's 100% Waterproof Mascara in Black Black. It is also available in Brown Black and can currently be bought for £5.29 from Superdrug, or for £5.10 from the Argos website, to name just a few options.
---Why This Mascara?---
Picture it: I'm sitting in my car getting ready for a job interview, so before I climb out I check myself in my mirrors, quickly wipe under my eyes to make sure there are no cheeky smears of mascara, and know I look picture perfect. Forty-five minutes later, feeling confident about how the interview went, I return to my car and I my mirrors see great black smears under my eyes. How did that happen, when I barely even moved for that whole time, let alone rubbed my eyes?! How embarrassing...
This is what happened to me mid-way through last year, and I was so embarrassed that I vowed it would never happen to me again. However, finding a waterproof, smudge-proof mascara which didn't turn to glue when you tried to remove it proved harder than I imagined. Being black and smudge-proof were my only real criteria, so I decided to leave the hassle to someone else and put it on my Christmas list. Come Christmas Day, I found Rimmel's 100% Waterproof Mascara neatly tucked away in my stocking. :)
---What's It Like To Use?---
When you unscrew the lid and pull the brush out you'll see that the brush is straight - some people may prefer a curved brush, which is supposed to make it easier to coat every lash in every corner, but I personally prefer a straight brush as I find they're more accurate.
The bristles are all the same length and are all well covered in mascara, although they don't appear to be clogged or clumpy at all.
This really translates to how it feels when applied, as my lashes all appear nicely separated and I've not noticed any clumps on my eyelashes at all so far.
Luckily, I'm naturally blessed with very long eyelashes, but once I have applied this mascara even my eyelashes look noticeably longer and thicker. With one coat, my lashes don't feel stiff at all - in fact, the mascara feels so light and natural that I can't feel it at all. Sometimes I like to apply a second coat for a night out, but even then my lashes don't feel too stiff and sticky.
---How Smudgeproof And Waterproof Is It?---
I always find that the activity which makes my mascara smudge the most is - bizarrely - when I'm sitting doing nothing on a lazy day at home. With regret, I have to admit that this mascara is no different, and after a day of bumming around the house, I always end up with little black smudges under my eyes. Of course, this is the situation in which my appearance matters the least, but from an apparently 100% waterproof mascara, I would hope for slightly better.
On the other hand, when I do venture out I can spend most of the day out and by the end I'll barely notice any smudging at all. This is a huge improvement on my previous mascaras (especially the one I wore to THAT interview!), and I think that I will always experience a certain amount of smudging with any mascara I use. I put this down to the medical problems which I have, which mean I find it difficult to regulate my body temperature and am prone to sweating - I'm sure that the majority of you won't have this problem at all.
As for its true waterproof qualities I can't really comment as I haven't been swimming whilst wearing this mascara. I have, however, both been out in the rain and cried whilst wearing it, and neither time have I had black rivers running down my cheeks.
---What's It Like To Remove?---
As I mentioned at the beginning, waterproof mascaras are notoriously difficult to remove - they tend to stick to your eyelashes like tar or glue, just at the very time you wish it wouldn't. What with this mascara claiming to be 100% waterproof, I was expecting to sit for hours trying to remove it properly.
When it comes to removing it, I am very pleasantly surprised. I have previously reviewed the Johnson's face wipes which I use daily, and I usually use these same wipes to remove my make-up. These ordinary face wipes get to grips with Rimmel's 100% Waterproof Mascara easily, and can remove all the day's mascara within minutes. No scrubbing needed! What's even better is that when I wake up in the morning I never have any smears and smudges which come from mascara which I thought I had removed the night before.
Ultimately, this is probably the easiest mascara to remove which I have ever worn.
---Overall: Thumbs Up Or Thumbs Down?---
Overall, it's a thumbs up. The mascara is cheap yet gives great coverage and leaves your lashes comfortable, separated, looking long and luscious, and clump-free. I'm not sure that it's quite lived up to its 100% waterproof claims, as I still occasionally get those dreaded smudges - hence the one knocked-off star. However, it does smudge less than other mascaras I have tried and at least lasts long enough to get me through an interview! Plus, being so incredibly simple to remove, this mascara is great value for money and has my wholehearted recommendation!
Ive recently started going to the gym on a regular basis in conjunction with the new diet Ive started. But a few days ago I decided that when I went to the gym I was going to start using their swimming pool as well as I haven't been swimming in years and it is such great exercise. But the first thing on my mind was trying to find a decent waterproof mascara to wear when I went so me and a friend went shopping and I ended up buying this "Rimmel 100% Waterproof" because I thought with a title like that you cant go wrong really! Turns out you really can because this is not waterproof in the slightest - until it comes to removing it!
Stockists: Superdrug, Boots ETC
Shades: Black & Black Brown
This mascara is said to be 100% waterproof and very quick drying meaning you can still look good after a few hours in the pool
The packaging and the brush are the few things about this mascara that I actually liked. The packaging is an electric blue tube with silver writing and even though that is quite simple I reckon it looks really posh and it looks more expensive than it actually is. There is nothing extra fancy about the brush - it may be a tiny bit bigger than normal but that is about it. The mascara itself isn't to runny or to thick so everything about it before you actually use it is pretty great in my eyes. So maybe it would be a good mascara for everyday wear rather than specially when your going swimming or coming in contact with water.
Applying this is super easy as it does glide onto your lashes perfectly. Id say you only need one coat because it does make your lashes look quite thick and much longer with just one and if your only wearing it to the gym there's no point in going all out. I have to say this definitely makes your lashes look great (before you hit the water) because mine certainly looked longer and thicker - its a pity I go to an all female gym LOL. I applied mine before I did any working out and it didn't run at all while I was on the treadmill so I'm guessing this mascara can withstand sweat.
It cannot withstand water. I was only in the pool for about half and hour and when I got out I looked as if I had to black eyes. And there were drip marks all down my face - so not a good look! But when I can to trying to get the rest of my lashes it simply would not budge and it took me a good 10 minutes with wipes and make-up remover to feel like this had totally gone. So it doesn't withstand water until you want to get the stuff off! I don't recommend this mascara to anyone as although it did frame my eyes beautifully it isn't waterproof at all. And so my quest for the perfect mascara continues!

I bought this product originally so that I could go swimming with mascara on. What can I say? I was a strange teenager. I picked it out because of the low price, and I had a lot of other make-up from Rimmel. I had yet to realise that it is all pretty crap, except for the lipstick. I still like the lipstick.
The packaging is plain blue plastic, you get no fancy designs for your £4.99. The writing on the packaging is printed in silver, and has almost entirely rubbed off my tube of this mascara.
The brush is easy to hold, with a nice, normal, medium sized lid. It tapers slightly towards the end, but not really enough, it's a bit difficult to get into the corners of your eyes. I think the brush would be better if it was a little smaller. The formula is a bit clumpy when applied on its own, but over clear mascara it goes on really well, nice and smooth. It is available in two shades, 'brown black' and 'black black'. I use black black - I know from trying other Rimmel mascaras that brown black is too light for me.
I went swimming with this mascara on one time, and one time only, right after I got it. 100% waterproof it ain't. I got lovely black smudges below my eyes - which I could then wipe off with the side of my hands! I was so disappointed! My dreams of being a beach beauty dissolved. It's not even really sweatproof, it tends to run a little bit if I get hot, and after a long day I can see little flakes on my lower eyelids if I'm not wearing dark eyeshadow there.
Despite its failing to match up to it's job description, it's a decent every day mascara. It darkens my eyelashes, doesn't clump too much - though clumps are easily sorted with an eyelash comb - and is pretty easy to remove, being not at all waterproof! It comes off almost immediately when I use the oil cleansing method to take off my make-up.
It doesn't have any 'special effects' whatsoever, no curling, no volumising, so I don't tend to wear this if I'm going on a night out. If you do curl your eyelashes before using this it holds the curl well. I'm a contact lens user and this doesn't irritate my eyes.
All in all it's a okay product, but it isn't worth the £4.99 Superdrug want for it. You can get better mascaras for that price, or not much more, and similar quality mascaras for less.
I love mascara and am quite obsessive when applying it; every lash having to be coated "just right". If this is what you too are like this mascara is definaltely not for you.
The Design - Stylish electric blue packaging which is easy to hold and doesnt "slip through your fingers" as some do when trying to apply mascara.
The Brush - The brush isnt ideal for myself. In order to get to those corner lashes a brush with a slim end is a must however this product does not offer that. Instead the brush is more or less the same size theoughout instead of shaping it to suit the lashes.
The Mascara - Described as being fast drying and run resistant. Firstly, yes; the product is fast drying but a little too fast for my liking. As soon as you have put one coat on the lashes have dried resulting in a "clumpy" second coat. As for run resistant.. well; I am more than a little scepticle when it comes to this description. It has been advertised as being waterproof but when I came to wash this product off (due to obvious reasons) it ran off my lashes like water off a ducks back. I have never in my years had mascara come off that quickly with the use of just water. So i would like to say this mascara definately does NOT do what it says on the tin!
If you like you eye lashes clumped together as though you have fake lashes stuck on in random places this product is definately for you.
Price wise at £2.49 from superdrug the price reflects the quality. A cheap price for a cheap product. Spend a little more and gain a better result.
Rimmel 100% waterproof, this is a perfect product for the day as it doesn't lengthen or thicken them much.
Throughout the day I either forget I have mascara on and rub my eyes causing them to smudge or come summer time I sweat and will then end up down my face!
This is a fab mascara for being 100% waterproof for as little as £4.99 for 8ml.
With it being a little smaller than other mascaras I have found it not to dry up as quickly.
This mascara is hard to get off! The only product I have found to get it off is clarins "instant eye make-up remover" or clarins "one step facial cleanser".
It does say its totally waterproof and one thing I have not experienced yet is swimming, so couldn't tell you if it works. But for me its perfect.
It also says its lash building and lengthening which I have to disagree, my lashes are dark and long and this mascara just adds to them so great for the day but no way for the night.
Suitable for sensitive skin? I don't have sensitive skin so I can't help you with that one! Just be careful when trying any product out around the eyes sensitive or not.
I bought his mascara as i was going away on holiday and knew i would be doing alot of swimming and watersports. My GOD.... what a buy!! I was very impressed and there was not one occasion where it marked under my eyes or run. It also isnt to clumpy, it goes on light so a couple of brush strokes it gives a lovely effect of long lashes without goin over the top. The packaging is great bold blue colouring so stands out against over massacra packaging so easy to see which is your waterproof one. Also was happy with the price i paid (around £5). It does take a bit of effort to get off but in my opion this is a good thing if its a waterproof mascara! Also would be happy to use for mascara on a night out. Overall i great product and would recommend to anyone who wants a long lasting waterproof mascara. I wore up to 8 hours a day with no marking or runs. GREAT
I purchased this mascara hoping that it would live up to it's name and be 100% waterproof as I regularly swim and cycle in the rain. I was very impressed - it really doesn't budge! I have found this product easy to remove with a good cleanser and it doesn't leave fibres behind like other waterproof mascaras, which can have a tendency to irritate the eyes particularly if you are a contact lens wearer like myself. But unfortunately it can leave black smudges under the eyes so I recommend having a good eye make up remover to hand.
I wasn't overly impressed with the effect this mascara had on my eye lashes. I would not recommend it if you are looking for a mascara with a wow factor. It subtley colours and defines the lashes but doesn't add much in the way of length or volume which is a shame. However, this mascara is most definitely the best waterproof mascara I have tested and is excellent value at less than £5rrp.
I bought this mascara as it was on offer in boots and it does exactly what it says, it is 100% waterproof. I went on holiday and wore it when I went swimming, it looked great and it didn't run at all, the only down side is that it is quite hard to remove even with eye make up remover pads. Even when you think you have got it all off your eyelashes can still feel quite clumpy and I found myself having to pick if off as I coulnt get it all off any other way! I wouldn't reccommend using it as an everyday mascara but it is handy to keep in your make up bag for when you are going swimming, when its raining or even to a funeral as you know you can rely on it to not make you look like a panda! It comes in black and brown and its worth shopping around as some stores have offers and incentives to buy such as a free gift.
The name says it all really! This mascara truely is 100% waterproof and definitely the most waterproof I have ever tried. I can personally atone for it's waterproof qualities by saying that I have been swimming with this mascara on and it really didn't budge. This long wearing capability can be a problem for some people when it comes to removing. Therefore the best way is by using a an oil based cleanser or make up remover. For all the waterproof capabilities it has, there isn't really much more to this mascara. It gives subtle length to my lashes but that's about it! I really want more from a mascara like volume and thickening which I find this mascara doesn't give. However when I'm on holiday and need some subtle emphasis on my lashes when sitting by the pool, this mascara works wonders! I haven't tried this, but you might be able to layer this mascara over others to add some sense of waterproof-ness to them. Just an idea!
It's certainly fair to say that this product is waterproof. So waterproof in fact that it doesn't budge all day. You can go to work, go home, then have a night out and it will still be there. You can even sleep and shower without it disappearing and I would go as far as to say you can swim in it.
If durability is the only thing you're looking for then this product is perfect for you. However, I find its budge-proof selling point to actually be one of its disadvantages. The mascara is practically impossible to remove from your eyelashes. I found even after using my usual eye make-up remover, which usually cleans everything off, I couldn't get rid of this one. I ended up sleeping with it still partially on and my eyelashes felt clumpy, dry and in really bad condition with a couple of them falling out in the morning!
It's great for an occasion where you need to know your mascara's not going to run but other than that I think it's almost too run resistant.
This Rimmel mascara has been a staple in my make up bag for the last few years. Not because it's something I've stuck with after comparing it with several other brands, but because it's something I once picked up, and didn't really think of to change to another brand. Come to think of it, I keep looking for the best foundation, lip liner, hair products, self tan etc. but never thought about changing to another mascara, before I started to notice my friends using Lancome and Dior mascaras and realising I had stuck to a really cheap and cheerful brand for ages.
The mascara is packaged in a pretty cheap-looking, blue tube, with silver coloured text on it. The text will wear off when the mascara rolls around in your make-up bag for a couple of weeks, so you're left with the blue tube.
The tube is not too big, closes nicely, without any half dry clumps of mascara messing up the closing mechanism.
The brush is just the right size for a mascara, and doesn't seem to pick up big lumps and clumps of the product in the beginning so you'll have too much of the product in the brush, which is what many more expensive mascaras seem to be doing. The hairs of the brush are quite fine, and the brush generally looks much more expensive than the price would suggest.
The texture of the actual product is shiny and quite smooth. The colour goes on smoothly when applied, and doesn't leave clumps behind. This mascara doesn't make your lashes look very much thicker or longer, but coats them in even colour.
I like to curl my lashes before applying mascara, so need one that holds the curl, and doesn't straighten it out, which is what many non-waterproof mascaras, and some "curling" mascaras annoyingly do. This Rimmel mascara holds the curl perfectly, and dries quickly.
The mascara comes in two colours,' brown black' and 'black'. I'm a dark blonde with a cool colouring, so use the 'brown black' one. I love the fact that this colour is not a horrible reddish brown (which is the case with the brown shades of many other brands), but a lovely non-red dark brown.
The staying power of the product is quite good as well. It does leave faint little patches of colour on my upper and lower lids sometimes after hours of wear, and some of it does come off when you take a shower with the product on, but I think all waterproof mascaras do this to an extent. When the tube starts to dry up when the product is almost finished, it does start to sprinkle down from your lashes and needs to be changed to a fresh one.
The mascara is easy to take off with any cleansing milk or creamy make up remover I've tried, so doesn't need any special baby oil routines like some more hard core waterproof mascaras.
I wear contact lenses and have never noticed the mascara irritating my eyes, even when I've fallen asleep with it on. I can't say the same for some higher-end brands.
Considering the price (£4.88 at Boots), this mascara isn't at all bad.
I have been looking for a decent waterproof mascara for a long time. A mascara that doesn't run, doesn't smudge, and doesn't leave black marks under my eyes after a long day. However, I have come to the conclusion that such a product does not exist. The nearest I have found so far though, is Rimmel 100% Waterproof Mascara.
The mascara comes in a bright blue, rounded tube, which is quite cute and cheerful looking. The name of the mascara does wear off quickly from the side of the tube which is a bit annoying, but that's often the case with make-up.
The mascara is available in either Black or Brown Black. I have Brown Black because I am blonde and quite fair skinned so I don't like anything too intense, however I will say that the Brown Black is more black than brown and is really quite a deep, dark colour, so might not be suitable or anyone looking for something light and natural.
The Boots website describes this mascara as: 'Guaranteed to stay put during swimming or sports. It does what is says. A truly waterproof formulation, 100% Waterproof Mascara provides lashes with a natural looking, long-lasting coverage. This formulation is fast drying with a waterproof and run resistant finish. The combination of brush and formulation also helps to volumise, lengthen and separate the lashes.'
I would say that this is not entirely true. The mascara does run if you wear it whilst swimming or in the shower. It also tends to run, smudge and leave marks on hot days or if you leave it on for longer than a few hours. However I have found that if I apply it and then put on a clear mascara or make-up setter on top of it, then it does have quite good staying power for a few hours in normal situations. If I am just going out for the evening and I have put clear mascara on top then I can be reasonably certain it will stay put until I get home.
As well as having reasonable staying power the mascara also makes my lashes look really good. It makes them look thick, dark and well defined. It doesn't tend to clump them together and it doesn't make them look think and spidery either. It is flattering and can look good either in the daytime, or with an extra coat it will be powerful at night time.
Even though this mascara doesn't live up to its claims it is still a very good make up item and I will replace my current one when it runs out. It is available from Boots for £4.89 or from other pharmacies, make up stores or supermarkets for a similar price. Boots currently have a three for two offer on Rimmel products so if you are eager to try it then now would be a good time!
Truly waterproof formula for natural looking lashes, with long-lasting coverage / 1. Fast drying formula with a waterproof and run resistant finish / 2. Combination of brush and formulation helps to volumise, lengthen and separate the lashes.
