“ Brand: MUA / Type: Nail Varnish / Suitable for: Nails „
I spotted these in Superdrug a few months ago and really liked the look of them so I decided to buy one to try. I do like it, but I think that rather than looking obviously cracked it can look quite tacky and almost chipped/worn unless it's applied over a dark base coat, and I'm not a fan of having dark nails all the time. The varnish does give a bit of glitz and shimmer due to the brightly coloured glitter, but I would prefer to be able to wear it over a range of colours rather than being limited to mainly black varnish. When I tried it with a nude varnish it looked really odd, like I'd literally stuck glitter to my nails and it looked all patchy and tacky. Even when it's applied over a dark colour the crackle effect isn't hugely noticeable as the lines aren't as thick/well defined as say the Barry M crackle varnish provides, which I guess will be an advantage for people who prefer a more subtle look. I have the green one which I chose because it's quite an unusual, pretty colour. Other colours available are blue, silver, gold, red, pink and orange, so there's a reasonable amount of choice. The varnish comes in a small but chunky slightly rounded nail varnish bottle which is transparent, meaning that the glittery varnish is visible. The varnish looks a lot darker in the packaging than it does on the nails and I was quite dissapointed by how faded it looked when I initially applied it - rather than being opaque with big, chunky cracks it just offers a small amount of glitter with some barely noticeable cracks, meaning that I have to apply several layers to get the intensity that I want which doesn't always look right. The varnish is quite runny in consistency and takes over a couple of minutes to completely dry. It comes with a small brush attatched to the lid which is very small but still useable and very accurate. The size of the bottle that the varnish comes in is quite a lot smaller than the bottle that my Barry M version comes in and it's only a pound cheaper and not as striking, so I don't think I'll be re-purchasing it.. it's a very pretty colour, but looks quite worn and tacky in my opinion even when it's been freshly applied. The finish is a little rough and the varnish can easily start to chip and peel off randomly - the lasting power is dire - I'd say on average it takes 2 days before it's almost completely worn off which is very unimpressive! The varnish retails at £2.99 and is only available from Superdrug. While it may seem like good value, I'd recommend paying a pound or so more for a Barry M crackle varnish.
When I was browsing in Superdrug with my sister I came across the MUA stand and was telling her that I had read some quite positive reviews about the cheap brand. As such whilst she was looking I decided to have a look at the nail varnishes and spotted a golden glitter nail varnish which was part of the nail quake range. I do like to paint my nails and like to get a funky look wherever possible and so I decided to purchase the crackle glitter polish for £2.99 as I felt it was good value and similarly priced to the Barry M crackle effect polishes. The nail varnish comes in a clear glass bottle through which you can see the golden coloured polish. It had a chunky black lid with a sticker on which highlights the kind of look you can get with this polish which I think is a good thing as it gives you some idea of the colours you could work with. The writing on the bottle is either silver or white but it is virtually impossible to see as it blends in to the gold background too much and so I do think they would have been better to include the writing and instructions in a black font because to be honest whilst I appreciate it isn't hard to paint your nails I did go in to this one a little blind as I couldn't read the bottle! As I have used Barry M crackle nail varnish before I did feel quite confident in using this product without reading the instructions. I first painted my nails using a black nail polish as I wanted to create quite a striking, dramatic look with the quake crackle glitter polish. I gave my nails two coats of the black polish so that it really was a dark finish and then when it had dried I applied the crackle glitter polish on the top of it. The brush is a good size and the chunky black lid really makes it easy to hold as you apply the varnish to your nail. I found a few strokes and the nail was covered and it is important not to go too over the top with this one as you want the crackle effect to take hold and still have the black polish visible underneath. I liked how the glitter crackle polish moved around on the nail as if by magic and left a crackle effect on my nail. It is nice thinking you won't ever get exactly the same look each time you do this because of the way the crackles form. When I looked at my nails whilst I was impressed with the results they gave together I did feel as though something was missing and so I painted a clear top coat over my nails and this made all the difference in my opinion as the golden coloured glitter really brightened up and stood out against the dark black base coat. The polish lasted really well on my nails and certainly lasted longer than most of my usual polishes do given that I wash up regularly and what not! I had around five days of my nails like this before they began to chip and then I had to take the polish off. I was able to remove the polish easily using a cotton wool pad and varnish remover which surprised me as I expected it to be trickier to remove the glitter from my nail! At just £2.99 I feel I have got a real bargain with this nail quake crackle glitter polish and I will certainly be on the look out for other colours in the range when I am next in Superdrug. I certainly like the look of the bright pink and bright blue coloured glitters! I would certainly recommend this product as it lasted well on my nails, created a funky look and is not expensive at all. Thank you for reading my review!
I brought this glitter crackle nail varnish with some other things i brought off the MUA website and originally i wasnt actually looking for a nail polish but i was going through each catergory and i thought i will have a quick skim through the nail varnishes and i seen their new glitter nail quake nail varnish range which looked very appealing as i really like crackle nail polishes. I purchased the pink nail quake nail varnish and for those of you that have never tried it, you first pick any coloured nail polish that you have and paint your nails in that which gives you nails a base and you wait for that to dry completely you then apply a thin layer on your crackle nail polish over the top and right before your eyes your glitter crackle nail polish starts cracking and its brilliant (make sure you leave that to dry also) it gives your nails a two tone effect. I have found it works better if you only use a thin layer of the crackle nail polish it just seems to crack alot better, the colour comes out brilliantly but i would say i ordered pink but it was more of a purple colour just to let everyone know but that didnt stop me from using it. I found it looked really good because the crackle nail polish was glitter and it looked really different, i cant wait to purchase some more of these nail polishes in different colours, they do gold, silver, copper, blue, pink and green and they are only £2.99 which i thought was a great price.
I received this nail varnish as a gift about a month ago. I am a huge fan of nail varnishes so it's always a nice treat to receive one. This nail varnish is a crackle nail varnish, which means when applied on top of a base coat, the nail varnish crackles to show the base coat underneath, if you do not know what I mean then just search crackle effect nail varnish into Google. I find the colour of this nail varnish gorgeous. It's not like the normal pinks and reds, it's a lovely turquoise glittery blue. When I received this nail varnish I was so excited to try it as I thought that the bright blue with a black underneath would look amazing. I applied black as the base coat and patiently waited for it to dry. Once it was dry I then applied the MUA crackle glitter nail polish. I find that the polish went on smoothly and easily, there were no bumps or anything. Once I had applied the MUA crackle glitter nail polish I then watched my nails and waited for the polish to crack to show the black underneath. I saw the blue polish start to slowly show a few cracks, I then waited longer and nothing more happened, it really did not look impressive at all. There was about one or two cracks that appeared, it didn't look like a wonderful effect, instead it just looked like I hadn't applied my nail varnish properly. I am going to have to give this nail varnish 2 stars, you're probably wondering why I am awarding it 2 stars, well it's because all though this nail varnish didn't deliver as a crackle polish, I have found that if I use a blue as a bottom coat and then apply this MUA nail polish over the top of the blue base coat, then it just looks like I have a nice glitter blue nail polish on, so it isn't completely useless. If you want to buy this nail polish then you cay buy it here for £2.99: http://www.muastore.co.uk/index.php/glitter-nail-quake-nail-varnish
