Max Factor Masterpiece Mascara has an iFX brush designed to facilitate precision brushwork; delivering superb definition to your lashes, framing your eyes and making them stand out beautifully. It's priced at £9.99.
I like the packaging of this mascara. The tube is a bit chunkier than some and although I don't really like gold this is gold without being in your face and I think it manages to look high quality. I think this was the first mascara to use the plastic spiky brushes that are so prevalent these days. This one has lots of fairly short little spikes which are arranged quite close together.
The brush is really easy to use and I agree that you can do 'precision brushwork' with it. You can easily get right into the corners of the eyes with it without ending up with mascara all over your nose or below your eyes. You can also get right into the lash line without covering your eyelids in mascara.
The mascara goes on really smoothly and evenly and it does indeed give a very defined look to the lashes. It perfectly coats each individual lash with no sign of clumps whatsoever. It doesn't give a great deal of extra length or volume, it's more of an everyday type mascara than one to make a real impact, but the look it gives is really lovely and it does open up your eyes.
It lasts all day or night and I've never encountered problems with it smudging, flaking, or otherwise looking anything other than perfect. It is not waterproof but they also do a waterproof version which works brilliantly. The non-waterproof version is easy to remove, and as expected the waterproof one takes a little more effort but it still removes pretty easily with a decent cleanser or makeup remover.
This doesn't irritate my eyes at all, and I do wear contact lenses but have never encountered any problems with it
Yes! I would recommend this as the perfect everyday mascara for anyone who likes clump-free, well defined lashes!
I swear by this mascara, having tried many different brands and varieties over the years, I haven't found better, even when spending more than twice the £8 that this usually costs.
The mascara comes in the usual range of colours and is also available in a waterproof version which I have found equally good in terms of coverage and wear. So, what's so good about this mascara? Rather than bristles, the brush has little soft plastic spikes (the best way I can think of describing them!) which really fan out the lashes and give a nice open look to the eye, meaning your eyelashes don't clump or stick together like with some other brands. Also, it lasts really well - I apply a couple of coats in the morning and don't need to reapply all day, perfect. It's good for creating a dramatic look in a couple of coats but equally can be used for a more natural look if you only apply a single coat.
Finally, even with two daily coats, this mascara lasts me for months, so I would say it is well worth the £8 or so. It's the one beauty item I wouldn't be without!
I Love mascara its one of my favourite make up products and I always seem to pick them up when they are on sale even if I do not need them just to try out the latest product on the shelf and see what effect on my lashes it can have. I seen this on a introductory offer at £4.99 and thought why not.
It comes in a standard size tube with a twist off lid which has the wand attached to it .
The brush itself is rather deceiving when you first open the bottle and have a look at the wand it really does not look like it is up to much. The wand is rather small and has small tiny bristles that seem to get even smaller at the edges.
When applying to my lashes I was really surprised at how easy it was to achieve big volume two sweeps with the brush and some touching up at the edges and my eyes looked great my lashes looked a lot fuller and also had a slight curve to them. They looked a lot longer and also looked like there was a lot more lashes than I actually have.
The small bristles are great for pulling the lashes apart as well as creating a more full look and they are also very easy to coat bottom and corner lashes with the bristles being so small which is great as this can often be a pain to achieve with just 1 mascara.
The mascara lasted very well holds all day and is still noticeable at the end of the day after finishing work and running around after 3 babies. In the evening if I am going out I run a quick coat over the top and it refreshes the look without the mascara cracking, flaking or just looking clogged up witch is perfect for a quick top up.
The mascara usually cost around £8 which I think is great for a mascara that actually lives up to its claims. The effect given by this mascara is great for day or night and it is long lasting. There are different colours available where as I go for brown for a more natural soft look. It is available in a waterproof version but to be honest this is hard wearing with water anyway and find it lasts well enough.
another product that i love.
I dislike brushes which are too big or too small and this one is perfect in size. it captures the tiny lashes often missed with a big barrel and it isnt fidly and time consuming like with a small brush. when applying the liquid consistancy is also great, not clumpy, not dry. it applys the right amount to the brush and then to your lashes. i have tried a million mascaras, as we all have, and none compare to this one. You can build up the coats of mascara to go from a subtle and sophisicated day time type of look to the more dramatic and sexy full on dark lashes.
it really does make lashes look longer and fuller, when wearing it i sometimes think my lashes look too long, almost like fake lashes
The fact that they also do it in waterproof is another added bonus and so is that in boots you often get 3 4 2 on maxfactor.
I received this Max Factor Masterpiece mascara, in rich black, as part of a free gift set from Boots. I often use Max Factor products, and so was interested to try this mascara. The packaging is great, a slim black tube with gold lettering. However, as soon as I pulled out the brush I was already thinking this would not be the mascara for me--it is a hard plastic, spiky brush often used in these lengthening mascaras, and I really don't like the effect they give.
I was definitely right to think I wouldn't like this product--while the mascara itself didn't seem too bad at first, with a strong black colour, the brush did not give the result I look for. My lashes did look longer, but were stuck together, giving a spiky, spidery look that I don't like at all.
Throughout the day wearing it, the mascara continued to disappoint. I was frequently noticing that bits were flaking off around my eyes. I had expected much better from a Max Factor product, and I will certainly not be spending £8.99 for a full-size version from Boots. It didn't irritate my eyes like some mascaras can do, though, and dried quickly so it did not smear, but these plus points are not enough for me to use it again.
If the long, spiky-lashed look is something you want, then perhaps this is a mascara more suited to you, but it's really not the look I prefer. I would still suggest this product isn't really worth the money, though, considering the flaking off it does throughout the day.
The packaging: This mascara comes in a black tube with gold lettering and trim which immediately creates a classy look to the mascara. The brush has fairly small bristles and ranges from larger bristles to smaller ones to get right into the corner of the eye.
This product really does deliver in terms of making your eyelashes look lovely. The brush is able to reach all lashes and gives just enough coating for a nice daytime look. Each lash stands out and i did not get any problems with flaking or smudging throughout the day.
In terms of negatives, I didn't feel i was able to get a dramatic enough 'false lash' look with this mascara so it's not really suitable for going out clubbing etc. Also it is quite expensive and i'm not sure i would be happy paying the £10+ that this mascara costs on my lowly student budget. However, i certainly would not rule out buying this mascara again.

One coat of Max Factor MASTERPIECE mascara is all you need for that day-to-day lash look of beautifully separated evenly coated and non-clumpy lashes. Because of the perfect separation your lashes look thicker as well as being noticeably longer. However - me being me - I prefer more of a va va vroom false eyelash look so I use two coats.
The formula is fast drying - under ten seconds, which is good for people like me who prefer multiple coats. I've found that holding the brush against my lashes gives a slight curl and the formula locks it in. Needless to say; If you curl your lashes before applying this mascara the curl will be highly defined.

The magic to the effects you'll achieve with the formula is in the wand.
Admittedly, when I first opened my tube of MASTERPIECE I was very disappointed; the brush is composed of short rubber bristles, which decrease in length closer to the tip of the wands brush. The bristles simply didn't look long enough to evenly distribute the mascara without causing major clumps.
I was wrong. The brush grabs, lifts and coats every lash, even those little stragglers in the outer corners of the eye, thanks to the shortest bristles. The perfect separation and definition and lift fanned the lashes out.

I've been using MASTERPIECE on and off for a few years now and have yet to experience any flaking - this will honestly last me from 7:30 am until I remove it in the evening, still looking as fresh as it did when I first applied it.
I've never used the waterproof version as there has never been any need for me to: I've been caught out in the rain quite a few times and haven't noticed any running. Same with shedding a few sneaky tears during sad films. I think if I were to properly cry then it would run, but I can't recall doing that wearing this and I'm don't plan to, so that's no problem.

I used to happily spend an appalling amount on Diorshow mascara in the belief that weighing down my lashes with a lumpy formula was the way to achieve that false lash effect. Now I'm older and somewhat wiser I know that good false lashes look natural, so the length and separation you get from your mascara is more important for getting a natural and neater looking 'falsie' look.
The look of volume I get with two coats is as good as Diorshow, the length is better than Telescopic Precision and the rich black colour stands up against Liner Efect. If I were to compile a list of the top five mascaras I've ever used then this would be near the top.
I still do try other mascaras and love a few of them, but sooner or later I always come back to this as the fantastic results are guaranteed.

MASTERPIECE is available in black and brown/black.
There is also a waterproof version in black.
I paid £8.99 for this in Boots which is a little more than I would have liked to have paid, considering that there is very little amount of actual mascara in this - only 4.5ml - when in most mascaras that cost about the same price as this one there is usually about 8ml in them.
The reasons that I wanted to buy the mascara are:
*Currently I don't really have many good mascaras
*There was a lot of hype around this one, as it was the official mascara of Milan fashion week or something like that, and I think it has won some awards. These thoughts led me to thinking about buying it
*When I was looking at it in Boots my friend said that she has heard it is really good from someone she knows
So I took it off to the till and paid for it, hoping that it was going to be as good as I thought it would be. The colour I bought it in is black/brown. You can also buy this in black or deep blue. And there is also a waterproof version of this mascara, but the one I am reviewing right now is not waterproof.
The brush is very flexible. It can wobble around in all directions if you want it to, and the bristles are very short and there are lots of them. This makes the mascara clump free when you apply it, and I noticed that this also makes it easier to coat your very small eyelashes which can be hard to reach with some other mascaras.
I would not recommend putting this on your bottom lashes, even though this will reach to coat them, because it isn't waterproof and it does smudge and it gave me litlle panda eyes.
One thing I do really love about this mascara is the design. It is gold and very elegant looking. To me it just looks really fashionable and stylish.
I recommend this, but I just wish there was more formula in it and I wish the price was a little bit cheaper. Then it truly would be a masterpiece.
A good brand of mascara which does its job by lenghtening and thicking lashes making your eyes look great. the brush is really clever in that it coats each lash really well with minimum clumping and your lashes look long, thick and dark without applying tons of coats.
The packaging is simple and pleasant looking and the wands shape makes it easy to hold and use.
the main con is that the packaging makes the tube look bigger than it is and it doesn't last that long. it quickly runs out or dries out which is a bit annoying.
Also at first it doesnt clump at all but as it gets older (after a few weeks) seems to get drier and produce more clumps.
Overall though not hugely expensive it doesn't last that long so you will have to replace it, saying that I use alot of mascara, if you only use a bit every now and again may last longer. Still worth buying due to good brush which coats lashes nicely. A great mascara overall!
MaxFactor have always been way ahead of the for mascara for me with just a few exceptions. Master Piece is my all time favourite. It is consistent, lasts well and even up until the last dregs it has never gone gloopy for me. I like to curl my eyelashes as I was not blessed with naturally long curly ones, and Master Piece enhances this and keeps my eyelashes curled literally until I take it off.
At approximately £6 it is great value and far cheaper than other "dramatic" mascaras which do not last. I have also tried cheaper branded mascara at this same price and thrown them away after trying them just once.
The waterproof one truly has spectacular staying power, giving you eyes the look of freshly applied mascara all day. And it doesn't stop looking spectacular all through using the whole tube. The wand is very easy to use and just the right size. It glides on so smoothly that it is not neccessary to repeat the movement over the lashes many times as with other mascara brands. Unfortunately the one very minor downside is that it is so good that I have trouble removing it with normal cleanser.
I first received a mini version of this in a free gift set, however was not expecting much from it as despite the hype, I always find Max Factor products to be some what of a disappointment.
It comes in a very simply black tube with gold writing on it (sometimes in a plain gold tube) , calling it Masterpiece High definition mascara. Within the fact that they have, (along with many of their other products) called it 'Masterpiece' suggested the fact that it is just simply amazing and there is none other like it, in that being able to be called a Masterpiece.
It claims 'High Definition' which is something that I feel I need, as I am quite lucky to have naturally quite long eyelashes, therefore not needing a lengthening one, whereas definition between each lash is very much needed.
The colour that I chose was rich black, which otherwise could be known as black, just trying to sound a little more luxurious by adding the 'rich' in there.
Just like most mascaras, it has, what I call a 'screw top lid' meaning that it is has to be unscrewed to open and reveal the brush. The brush itself is not a 'fuzzy' brush, but in fact has the plastic/flexible bristles on it. These are not tightly compacted, but are neither spaced out and have a good, even space between each bristle. The brush starts of largish and as it gets to the end of he brush it begins to curve in. The brush itself is a reasonable side, however I did find that is doesn't quite manage to reach those inner and outer eyelashes.
To apply it is very simple and unlike some of the cheaper mascaras I have used it glides easily over most of them (as I have stated - just misses the inner and the outer corners). I only used 1 coat before I had a look and my eyelashes and I do have to admit, I was amazed. It had captured most of my eyelashes almost individually to give a 'fluttery' ,'light' effect to the eyelashes, it also added even more length which was great and didn't even leave a trace of the dreaded spider legs look!
It is easy to reach the inner corners of the eye as the brush itself is quite small/skinny, which therefore means it is not hard to put a few strokes of this magic stuff on those eyelashes. The great thing about this is that one coat is really all it needs, I tend to use 2 or sometimes 3 coats to have the coverage I like, however this easily did what that would normally achieve in just the one!
As for the 'high definition', how about 'mega' definition as I felt that my eyelashes were spread out evenly and were not all clumped together and only every other one or two were grasped together.
The great thing is that this look lasted all day, as with other mascaras I nearly always see that the look doesn't last or begins to 'flake' or looks slightly 'brittle', however this stayed put all day without so much as touching it!
It didn't curl my lashes, which I was not expecting anyway, but if you are planning on buying it I would recommend investing in an eyelash curler as this really does give a mesmerising look! Invest in a higher quality one though, even if it costs a little more as you don't want any eyelashes going missing!
The mascara costs around £6-£10, depending on where purchased is available in the norm - Boots and larger Superdrugs. I have also seen it online and it is often better value for money here.
Overall I highly recommend this mascara and anyone debating about buying it - debate no longer.
It is the first Max Factor item that I am thoroughly impressed with and would not think twice about recommending it to anyone else. It may seem a little more expensive than £2 / £3 mascaras you can pick up in the cheaper range, however there is no doubt that it is worth it!
This is also published on CIAO under the same username - thanks!
This is one of those mascaras that had a pretty unique advert, which was broadcasted during television prime time and was featured in many magazines. It was basically pretty hard not to notice it if you were a big mascara fan. Being a HUGE mascara fan, I noticed it almost everywhere I went.
This mascara comes in a high standard looking thick gold and bronze tube. Like most or in fact all mascaras that I know, you unscrew the lid to reveal the wand or the applicator.
Upon discovering the wand, you notice that the bristles are a different colour to what you would expect. Of course after using this mascara a few times, the brush is covered in mascara, making it pretty difficult to notice the difference. Max Factor calls this brush the iFX brush, claiming that it holds more mascara than other brushes.
Upon using this product after curling my eyelashes, I found that this mascara was easy to apply and the shape of the brush made even getting to my little lashes on the corners and the bottom eyelashes rather easy to get to. My eyelashes did not feel clumped together and made my eyes look fresh and wide awake. I applied 2 coats, which gave a truly satisfying effect. As I really really love mascara and love having full lashes, I usually apply 3 or sometimes 4 coats, but with this I didnt necessarily need to. I found that this mascara lasted all day aswell, which is something that comes in very handy when your life consists of long days. Also as a wearer of contact lenses, I found that this didnt affect my eyes at all and was totally contact lense friendly, something I like to see.
This mascara claims to give 400% more volume of your lashes and Im not sure what that would be exactly, but you can definitely notice voluminous lashes after applying this mascara.
I can see why this mascara decided to place so many adverts in the media now.. they really do have a truly great product here and I bought mine for £7.20, which is actually just an average price for a super mascara.
Overall I found this mascara to have be a really high quality one and something I would for sure look out to buy again. This mascara gave me wide awake eyes, beautifully separated lashes, length and the volume of them was more than satisfactory, especially after only having 2 coats on.
A mascara I would highly recommend.
I absolutely LOVE this mascara. I tried it after my sister recommended it to me and personally i think it is brilliant.
I have quite short and fair eye lashes so mascara is an essential make up product for me. I buy this product in black, but there are also different shades and waterproof ones too. It really lengthens my lashes which is great for me and makes them really stand out, without clumping my lashes together, it separate them nicely. I often find other products that work as well are really hard to remove at the end of the day, yet this one comes off nice and easily with a make up wipe. I find i can wear this for a natural look in the day with just one coat, and can use it for nights out if i use a couple of coats that make them really stand out and gives a great look.
I wear contact lenses and do not find any irritation with this product, like i do with some others.
Additionally the price is great for the quality you get, this product is approximately £7-8 and can be found in many shops, i buy mine from Boots so i get my advantage card points too.
I definately recommend this product, especially to those who like me have short, fair lashes and want some length and definition.
Max Factor Masterpiece mascara in waterproof black is by far my favourite mascara (and over the years I, like most women have tried every fad going!). It's by far the best mascara I have used.
***Price and availability***
Max Factor Masterpiece mascara is available in Boots, Superdrug, Debenhams, House of Frasier and most large chemists. You can also buy it online, I get mine at Amazon, it's very handy as it fits right through the letterbox and I don't have to go out of my way after work just to buy it.
It's RRP is £6.99 which I think is very fair; it's certainly cheaper than some mascaras which I haven't personally rated anywhere near as highly.
The mascara comes 'as is' with no cardboard backing. It is a very nice, attactive and sophisticated mascara, in my opinion, in a muted gold and clear tubing. It looks very nice in your makeup collection.
Mine is waterproof black, it is available also in brown and navy and both waterproof and non-waterproof varieties.
The wand is very practical with no gimmicks - a straight brush with bushy bristles which are very easy to load with product.
The mascara goes on well, I like to curl my lashes beforehand, and I tend to give two or three strokes of the brush. It always goes on smoothly with no clumps.
Two strokes of the wand gives a good everyday look and three gives a more pronounced dramatic look. I prefer to layer mascara than buy special volumising mascaras - as I find them far too clumpy.
(I'm not sure whether that's a word, but you know what I mean!). This mascara lasts and lasts - I put it on at 7am and it's still there happily at 7pm, even when my eyeshadow has given up the ghost!
It's waterproof qualities are second to none - I wore this mascara on my wedding day, and it did me proud!
In terms of how long the tube lasts - I've had mine three months. I know it's recommended that you change your mascara regularly but as long as you adhere to good face/eye hygiene I think it should be OK to see it out. This mascara is as good as new.
Absolutely. This is by far the best mascara I have ever used and at £6.99 the best value for money too. I would recommend it without any issue whatsoever.
After spending many years and many pounds searching for an affordable, easy to use and effective mascara, I have finally settled on Max Factor Masterpiece Mascara. The packaging is classy and simplistic and the product is reasonably priced. Even though it may seem pricey at first glance (especially when compared with other mascaras from different companies) the tube does last a very long time. There are a range of colors and while most prefer a classic black mascara, I recommend trying the black/brown shade, as it is a softer look which works particularly well for people with fair hair or skin. While the basic product is not waterproof, it does hold up well throughout the day. The mascara is easy to remove and if used with a good eye-make up remover, never stains of leaves a residue on the skin. As much or as little as you like can be applied, and the fine comb like applicator ensures that eye lashes are separated and spread evenly, creating stunning definition which can be achieved every time.
