I was given a MAC giftcard for my birthday and since then I have found myself accruing a lot of lovely products! I was never a big wearer of makeup but since turning 24 I decided to try and glam up a bit, as I now realise I won't be in my 20s forever! I got excited buying a few things so I did end up putting some money towards my purchases but one of the fab things I bought was this Technakohl eyeliner.
The eyeliner comes in a plastic casing which looks a bit like a really long thin pen felt tip pen, with a black click on lid on top. It is written down the side the colour (I have graphblack) and it says Technakohl Eyeliner Kajal in silver lettering along the side.
The eyeliner itself is slightly a crayon type consistency, with a pointed tip but really thin and slightly creamy. It is easy to use by twisting the base to make the eyeliner rise out of the bottom so to give more product for a more defined finish. The eyeliner is super easy to use, and whilst I own a collection 2000 liquid eyeliner, I also find this eyeliner more suited for a dark and simple look around the eyes. As it works more like a pencil I find it easier to use and I can do straight lines easier without having to use a cotton bud and some eye makeup remover to tidy up the jagged edges I tend to draw around my eyes when I use a liquid eyeliner. The only downside with a eyeliner of this consistency is that it is quite flat and although it makes for a decent tool to emphasise the eyeline, it is not at all good for doing any flicks or tips at the end of the eye for a stand out, orchestrated look.
The black colour that comes out is quite dark and comes out easily but I did prefer to to 2 coats just to give it a more full and noticeable effect. Saying this, the eyeliner is really long lasting, for example I put it on at 7.30am today when getting ready for work and now at 7.10pm it looks just as good as it did this morning! I don't think it is waterproof only as from a tester on my hand it smudges easily but I am no cry baby so this is no bother for me!
Overall I love this eyeliner, and it costs £13.50 from MAC which is a bit more pricier than hoped for but I know it will last me ages. Being a crayon I think it will last longer than my liquid eyeliner and being a lady who likes to experiment I definitely think it is good to have some variety in my make up bag!
I bought this after a friend reccomended it to me as i am a bit of an eyeliner addict and love trying out new stuff. I bought it from Debenhams (instore) and paid £13.50 which ofcourse is a hefty price tag for just one cosmetic, but MAC is worth it in my opinion due to the high quality products and there good reputation.
The pencil is sleek and is just right in thickness - not too thin but not at all too thick and it is easy to get a good grip. It is a twist liner which is easy to use and in the 2 months i have owned it has never gotten stuck. The eyeliner is plastic, it is black in colour with the mac logo on the side in silver writing. On the bottom of the pencil is a thick strip with the shade of the product on so it is easy to recognise amonst my other eyeliners.
I think the name Technakohl is a clever idea but slightly gimmicky and tacky sounding. Lets face it, MAC really don't need to produce gimmicks with there (in my experience of them) outstanding reputation.
I own this in black. It is also available in pink, brown, blue, grey, khaki, green, purple and beige.
This is a kohl eyeliner if you have not already guessed from the name, so it is soft and extremely easy to apply - it accurately glides on with ease, leaving a medium to thick layer (depending on your angle) of the bold, well pigmented, good quality product. The pigmentation is outstandingly rich and intense.
The eyeliner is soft and creamy so smudges easily to create a smoky, 'just got out of bed' look, however it does not smudge too much unless blended which makes the product versatile and ideal for almost everyone. This does not create really thin, discreet lines, so for anyone who wants just a tiny little bit of product on the waterline and wants it neatly and 100% accurate this is not for you - the look it creates is thick and bold.
Also, it does smudge if my eyes get watery, if i sneeze, etc - it shifts and bleeds so is quite obviously not waterproof or flawless like some eyeliners on the market. Even when the product is completely dry it can smudge. Regular top ups are also neccessary as after 6+ hours the eyeliner forms into a sort of patchy look if that makes sense which is not a good look, and it usually shifts to the outer corner of my eye.
The pigmentation and thickness is easily buildable, it's easy to get carried away!
Overall a look i love as i'm really into the messy panda eye look right now but for anyone who wants a neat and accurate eyeliner this is probably isn't for you, and to be fair this is not a great deal better than other drugstore brand (superdrug, boots etc) kohl eyeliners. The soft, creamy texture and bold pigmentation are the only plus sides to this.
As a big fan of MAC products, I have not been disappointed by the Technakohl Liner.
Retailling at £13.50, this eyeliner comes in eleven colours, although I must admit that I have only used the black ('Graphblack') shade. Now, £13.50 may seem steep for an eyeliner, but its creamy formula means that this liner lasts a long time (I've used mine pretty much everyday for at least three months and its got plenty of use left in it), and it really stays put, meaning you don't have to keep topping it up. Compared to cheaper mechanical eyeliners I have used, this is the only one (aside from Barry M's Intense Eyeliner) that hasn't broken if I've accidentally twisted it a bit too far.
As I said before, I've only tested out the one shade, but the black is a lovely deep black which smudges easily if you want it to but leaves a nice clean line if that's what you want. The one criticism I can think of is that it takes a bit of work to take it off at night; but on the plus side I've worn it in horrible rainy weather without ending up with panda eyes, which is always a good thing in my books!
I went for a makeup consultation at MAC on recommendation from a friend. I have typically purchased cheaper brand makeups in the past. I'm a little older now and have a little more disposable income which, you need if you want to buy several products from MAC. (I tend to find the things I like from different brands.)
I find it difficult to get a decent eyeliner and this is one thing I have always been perpared to spend some money on. I have tried expensive and cheap and middle of the road but they are often too soft and you end up with one eye with a thin line and the other with thick line or they are so hard that you can't see any difference after nearly gouging your eye out in attempts to apply the stuff.
I typically buy black eyeliners but occassionally go for blue or purple. MAC has a number of different colours to choose from including your staples; Black and brown.
Most of my eye liner purchases have been of the type that you have to sharpen which, if I am going away usually means that I have to also take a sharpener. I purchased the black Technakhol eyeliner on recommendation from the MAC makeup consultant. I had been impressed by the look on me in the shop and how easy it seemed to use, plus the fact that it didn't need sharpening (to be honest I'm lazy and often misplace the sharpner).
I have found it easy to use. After a few uses I started to wonder if it would cease to function as effectively as the tip begain to look alot more rounded. I was suprised that this was not the case. I was still able to get solid, strong and clean lines which I found easy to apply. I like to have my eyeliner on both the top and bottom lids and this liner was effective for this purpose (no bleeding in to the eye itself or build up in the corner of the eye). I like a bold look with my eyeliner and I can achieve this with the product. I'm not sure that someone who likes a very subtle eyeliner would like this as much as I do.
Being a non sharpening liner it was difficult to know when it is going to run out. It involves a little guess work and I didn't guess well. I was without the make up and as I needed some there and then (it was a makeup emergency) and I wasn't anywhere near to a MAC store. I ended up buying a different brand. It is not as good and I will be getting another MAC technakhol eyeliner soon. I have since found serveral places to purchase MAC makeup, including their own stores, makeup sections in department stores such as debenams and the internet but I would suggest seeing if you like a product by going in to a outlet and using the net to stock up on your loved items.
I can recommend this eyeliner if you want your liner to make an impact. The consultation is also fab.
With make-up I do believe that for the most part, you get what you pay for. That is why I occasionally like to save up to buy some expensive, high quality make-up. Eye liner, in particular, is something that I usually save up to buy as I find that cheap eye liners usually aren't of a very high quality. I have purchased eye liners from MAC in the past and not been disappointed, so when I needed a new eye liner I knew where to go.
With pencil eye liners I find that after a while it becomes quite hard to get a sharp pointed tip, making it very hard to achieve thin lines. So when I visited the MAC counter at the airport, I told the lady there that I wanted a pencil that would give me a pointed tip after sharpening. She said the Technakohl Liner would be perfect for me. It is one of those eye pencils that doesn't require sharpening. Having used pencils like these in the past (of a different brand) I knew the tip would become blunt and thick (preventing me from achieving thin lines) after a while so I wasn't convinced but the lady insisted that this would not happen so I bought the pencil.
I don't use make-up very often-apart from eye liner and lip products which I do apply often, so I didn't have to wait too long to try this eye pencil out. I have used it for a few months now so I feel that I can review it properly. Firstly, this is what the MAC website says about this product, "A new mechanical pencil-style liner. In formula, soft and creamy, with an intense, rich, colour deposit. Blends on application: dries quickly to a long-wear, non-smudge finish. Versatile. An easy way to line the top and lower lash line of the eye. When applied at a 90 degree angle, provides a thin precision line. For thicker application, apply at a flat angle."
So what did I think? Firstly, the eye liner is very easy to apply. It is indeed soft and creamy, which means I don't have to press too hard to get a dark line. For those of you who aren't familiar with this sort of eye liner, all you have to do is pull the lid off and twist the bottom of the eye pencil, and out comes the eye liner bit. When it is new, the tip is sharp and pointed but with usage the tip eventually becomes blunt and thick just as I had predicted. However, the amazing thing is that I am still able to get thin lines despite the tip being blunt. You can use this eye liner on your waterline too, and it doesn't budge. I have this eye liner in black and I can get a thin (or thick depending on what I want) black line in one go, and don't have to go over it again and again. I have this eye liner in Graphblack which is an intense black colour so I usually use it on nights out and the colour lasts very long-usually till the end of the night. With other eye liners I find that after a few hours the colour transfers everywhere, giving me raccoon eyes. I am happy to report that this colour transfer happens very rarely with this eye liner. It does happen sometimes, but I think that has to do with the greasiness of my eye lids too, so I can't blame the liner alone. When you want to remove the eye liner, just use some eye make up remover and it will come right off. I have sensitive eyes and have to be careful about the eye products that I use but this eye liner has never irritated my eyes.
The 0.35g eye liner can be bought from the MAC online store (www.maccosmetics.co.uk) and costs £13.50. I bought mine from the Heathrow airport duty free so I paid less-a little over £10 I think. It is probably available on eBay, but exercise caution when buying from eBay as you could end up with a fake product. The eye liner is available in a number of shades-black, grey, brown, blue, green, purple-so you'll probably be able to find a shade you like.
