Having used MAC liquid foundation for many years, the one thing which I have always struggled without is this pump. Getting the right amount of foundation on your brush without it being too much or too little is very difficult. This little pump can be attached to most MAC liquid foundation bottles and is very easy to use. So far I've not had any bad experiences, no spillages in my bag. I do however wonder what might happen if one was to get squashed in someone's bag. As someone who carries make up around with me - its best to keep a small make up bag! Definitely worth buying, especially as you can transfer it from one bottle to another and it cleans quite easily. It has also been good when needing to apply your make up both quickly and for other people. It is just a much more hygenic way of applying make up, especially for those who are ultra fussy when sharing make up!!
A lot of foundation bottles come with screw tops which just reveal an open bottle neck when you take them off, meaning you have to just freely pour the foundation out. I don't really like this, as I always find the amount that comes out is way more than I need to use for one application, so I end up wasting a lot of foundation or having to try and scrape some back into the bottle, which is a bit unhygenic. It is not good to keep exposing the liquid foundation to the air like that. My favourite foundation is Estee Lauder Double Wear and that comes in a glass bottle with screw top and no pump. I had been looking for a while to get a pump to fit the Double Wear bottles, but Estee Lauder told me they don't make them. However, not too long ago I read somewhere that the MAC branded pumps are the right size to be compatible with Estee Lauder Double Wear. I was really pleased about this! I know a small bit of £3.50 plastic doesn't sound something to get too excited about, but this was something that I had needed for ages and would make my life slightly easier every day! So off I went to the MAC counter and found that yes, the MAC pump does fit the Estee Lauder bottles. They are both owned by the Estee Lauder company, so maybe that is a reason for the compatibility. The pump is made from hard, shiny black plastic. This does make it look a bit cheap and tacky, as my NARS pump (which is far too narrow for the Estee Lauder bottle) is matte and looks much nicer, but as I had finally found one which fit, I was not too bothered. To use, I just took off the screw top and replaced it with the pump which I screwed into place. The tube goes down into the foundation. On first use, I needed to press the pump quite a few times to expell all the air from it and get it in working order, but this is normal. After about three presses on the pump it started to work. Each pump dispenses just about the right amount of foundation. As Double Wear is quite a thick and high coverage foundation a little goes a long way. With other foundations a couple of pumps might be required, but it is also easy to get a smaller half pump amount out by just pressing down half way. The pump can be locked by twisting it. There is an arrow marked on the top to show which way turns the pump on and off. Also, which I found a simple and great addition, there is a little cap which can be detached and then reattached to cover the nozzle hole. It clicks into place securely when the pump is not in use. This is an extra safe guard if the bottle is in my bag or I am travelling. Even if somehow the nozzle gets twisted into the on position or if I forget to twist it off, if this cap is on then even if some foundation is dispensed it will only go onto the cap cover and not all over my bag. Overall this is a great little gadget which really improved my foundation bottle and I would recommend it to anyone who is sick of open bottle necks. It should fit any MAC foundations and the Estee Lauder Double Wear. If you want to use it for another brand you would have to check the compatibility first. It cost £3.50 and can be bought from any MAC counter.
