      Advantages

      Disadvantages

worth it when its not full price

      ****Jemma kidd lipgloss****
This year I have decided that I am going to try and only buy makeup that I really really need(not for the first time and probably wont be the last time I try this). Anyway as part of this I am trying to use up stuff I already have and this was the lipgloss I went for next.
      **The brand**
To be honest I had never heard of this brand before I had bought this item. I think that price wise it seems to be at the expensive end of drugstore makeup but the quality of low end drugstore.
      **Colour etc**
There are quite a lot of colours available- the one I got was a nice pale pink gloss which I liked because I like to layer gloss over a lipstick. It is also nice by itself as part of a subtle day time look. I think that this was quite sticky on though- much more than other glosses I have tried. The colour range seems average for this type of item.

      **Price etc**
I've just checked online and the average price for this seems to be about £10-£14. I don't think that this is worth that and I think I might have got it free with something. IT does seem to be stocked in quite a lot of places so I think that it would be easy to get a hold of this.

Overall this is okay if you are not paying for it or if you can get it out of some bargain bin. Alot of cheaper lipglosses are just as good or better

        Advantages

        Disadvantages

This was a lovely freebie treat with my magazine, but I personally would not fork out the£14 for it.

        REASONS FOR PURCHASE

Although I've bought other Jemma Kidd cosmetics (which can be purchased from Space NK) in the past, this lipgloss was actually free in Red Magazine during May / June this year.

The magazine offered three different colours (although there are actually 10 or so available all together in this range if you pay the full RRP). There were coral, slightly deep red, and a light pink available. My sister in law had the light pink and looked lovely in it, I'm dark and not a fair skinned blonde like her, so I went for the coral. Luckily the news agent's I was in stocked a lot of these magazines so I was able to chose!

        ABOUT THE GLOSS

"Jemma Kidd Hi-Shine Silk Touch Lip Gloss glides on the lips, creating the appearance of fuller looking lips. Enriched with lipogel, Jemma Kidd Hi-Shine Silk Touch Lip Gloss in Bare hydrates the lips leaving a delicate veil of colour. Use alone or experiment and wear over lipstick for extra shine or with a lip liner to fill out the lips."

        PRICE / AVAILABILITY / APPEARANCE

Since the May / June magazine is no longer available, you will have to purchase your Jemma Kidd lipgloss :(

These can be purchased from a Space NK store or website for £14 each, or you could check ebay and see if anyone is selling on their freebie version! A quick Google Shopping search will show you where to buy this gloss.

The lipgloss comes in a rectangular clear thick plastic tube, with a black matte screw lid and a white wand doe foot brush applicator.

        MY THOUGHTS

When I tried this lipgloss, I was expecting it to be a full and intense coverage gloss. Because it didn't look sheer or opaque at all in the tube.
I was disappointed that the colour was actually sheer on application. It was a little difficult to blend because it wasn't clear and it wasn't full coverage either. When I applied this directly with the wand it was uneven in colour and texture.

I realised that this was somewhat intentional with the gloss. It wasn't actually meant to be a full coverage gloss. It is meant to just leave a 'delicate veil of colour'. Fair enough!

So I tried this again, but wasn't very impressed with the applicator and didn't think it was suited to the colour and finish of the gloss.

Using this again with a lip brush, I was able to get a smoother and more even application. The actual gloss applicator had failed to work, especially at the corners of the mouth and cupid's bow. With a brush this wasn't an issue.

I applied this gloss onto bare lips, and it left a reasonably shiny and sheer coral finish.

Surprisingly, the gloss lasted well. I was able to still feel the shine on my lips after a drink and a snack. Unusual with a lipgloss. This was also a relief since the gloss wasn't easy to apply!

I was also pleased that this lipgloss wasn't sticky or tacky. It didn't make my lips stick together at all, and didn't leave those dreaded white marks at the corners of my mouth either (this can happen sometimes when your foundation near your mouth 'merges' with the gloss, makes for a great 'foaming at the mouth' look! Eek!).

        OVER ALL

This lipgloss does have it's selling points. It is long lasting (for a gloss), non sticky, and the colours that I've seen available and this particular coral, are very nice.

For me, I was put off by the difficulties in applying, and the fact that I was expecting a richer colour.

I personally wouldn't buy this gloss, but if you like sheer colours and would mostly be applying your makeup at home with all your brushes to hand, then this would be fine.

For now I think I'll stick with my Illamasqua Intense Lipglosses. I haven't found a gloss to rival them yet :)

        Advantages

        Disadvantages

I think that this is a really good product if you are willing to pay the quite expensive price.

I think that this product is pretty expensive and I do not tend to spend this much on lip gloss usually, but I was going out that night and needed a good quality one so I decided to treat myself. I am really glad that I decided to try out this lip gloss though, as it is now one of my favourites.
Some pink lip glosses I have tried in the past have looked quite tacky and fake, but I really like the colour of this one which is a nice pink which I think looks quite classy and natural.
I also like this product once applied, it has a nice texture which is quite smooth and light weight, and it is not at all sticky. For me, the product lasts quite well as well, once applied the colour can sometimes last me a couple of hours, which I think is really good for a lip gloss. The tube of the lip gloss also lasts quite well, I have had mine for a pretty long time without it running out, so I think that over all it is worth the little extra money it costs.

        Advantages

        Disadvantages

        Alright for a freebie

The Jemma Kidd makeup range is one that I had seen sold online a few times but never bought anything from the range because I think it is quite expensive. So I was impressed when I was walking round Tesco and saw that you got a free lip-gloss from this range attached to a packet of body form. Even if you wouldn't buy these I think it's worth it as for the sake of around £1 you get a free lip-gloss. There were 2 colours to choose from a shade of pink and a shade of red so I got the pink one.

        PACKAGING

The lip gloss itself comes in a plastic tube with a screw top lid that you can take of to apply the gloss directly from the tube onto your lips. Usually I quite like these kinds of tubes and initially this one is good, but when you get about half way through the gloss it starts to become a bit more difficult to get the gloss out. The screw top lid fastens quite tightly so there is no excess lip gloss seeping through, this can be a problem with some glosses.

        PRODUCT

When I opened the gloss I noticed the sweet smell, it is quite fruity and once applied the scent is still noticeable. It is not too strong so I don't think anyone but you would notice it.
I gently squeezed the tube to allow a small amount of the gloss to come out. The applicator part of the tube is slanted to allow a more precise application and there is a small hole in which the gloss comes out, this is just the right size so that you do not squeeze out too much.
When I applied the lip gloss the first thing I noticed was that it is quite sticky. I'm not a fan of sticky lip glosses so this was a bit of a let down. The stickiness also makes the gloss look extremely layered and quite messy if you apply too much so I tend to use a tiny amount just to make my lips look shiny.
The colour is quite nice, there is a slight hint of pink which is natural and is just enough to make your lips look that extra bit rosy.
Once applied the lip gloss does not last very long. After an hour it is completely wiped away.
To get the best use out of this lip gloss I would recommend wearing it over a lip stick to layer up the colour.
When purchasing this product it actually comes in a different packaging from the sample. It is a tube with a twist out wand, this would make the gloss easier to apply. You also have a wider range of colours to chose from but this particular review is based on the sample that I tried.

        PRICE

On the body form packaging it says that these lip glosses are worth £10, so not bad for a freebie.

        AVAILABILITY

ASOS sell a wide range of Jemma Kidd products and they have also been sod via QVC.

        CONCLUSION

I would not buy this lip gloss by itself but for a freebie it is quite good. I would rate this product 5 out of 10.

        Advantages

        Disadvantages

A great colour, non sticky, fairly long lasting lip gloss.

I actually got this as a freebie with a magazine a few months ago. I'd heard a lot about Jemma Kidd before but had never been tempted to try her product range. I'm not sure why it took me so long to try anything from the line as I've heard good things and read some great reviews on a number of different products she makes/designs.

What attracted me to the silk touch lipgloss was the colour, as the name suggests it's a perfect fuchsia pink that looks a little bit loud in the tube but applies quite sheer and leaves just a hint of juicy colour on lips. It looked like a perfect summer shade and since I normally read the magazine it came with I decided to grab one.

Well so far I have to say the gloss hasn't dissapointed. As I mentioned above it's a gorgeous raspberry/fuchsia shade that isn't sticky or gritty and is fairly long lasting for a lip gloss. The doe foot applicator is easy to use, dispenses the right amount of product evenly and is really good quality. I'm not overly keen on the smell which is a grapefruit scent and is not one of my favourites but It's not overpowering and it tends to dissapear quite quickly.

I find the packaging to be on the plain side but I personally prefer that and I quite like the rubbery kind of texture that's been used on the lid/wand. Size wise this is pretty average, you get a 7ml tube for your money which isn't bad for £14.00.

I think it will take me a while to use up the tube I already have but I can definitely see myself repurchasing for the colour alone.

        Advantages

        Disadvantages

        Buy the testers first!

My friend got this free with a magazine, but doesnt wear lipgloss so she gave it to me - so it got added to my collection of make up

The packaging is very neat, a square tube with "jemma Kidd make up school" written on the side. It quite plain, but looks expensive aswell. the lid is a black plastic one that doubles up as the brush. It is of a good size, and it is easy to hold and easy to apply

The shade i have is almost a pinky red colour and it looks nice in the tube.
However when applied, it is a very starnge shade and doesnt suit me at all. it is also super shiny and reflective which is good for a lipgloss.

The consistency is quite thick, but this means that it sticks well, and produces a good coat of colour with one stroke of the brush. The brush is a standard sized brush, and covers one lip at a time easily.

This is about £14 on Amazon, which i think is a rip off for a lipgloss. I understand it is Jemma Kidd, but i dont think a product of this quality should retail for £14. If i were you i would stick to cheaper brands, or buy the tester ones first!

          Advantages

          Disadvantages

recommended when on offer but not for the full £14

A family member of mine got this lip gloss free with a magazine not long ago, although I'm not sure what the magazine was I think it might have been Red or something similar. When she got it she decided she didn't want it and as I was in her house talking to her at the time when she got it she gave it to me instead. I love all kinds of make up, especially when its free, so I was very pleased with this new little gift.

The tube is a long cuboid shape with a black lid. On the lid it says in pink writing 'Jemma Kidd Make up School'. I'd never heard of this brand before so didn't really know what to expect and was quite curious about what the lip gloss was going to be like. From first impressions I thought the lip gloss looked quite expensive so I expected it to be good.

The shade I have this in is 04 Shell. It is just a shade darker than my skin tone which is good for me because I like to have nude, natural looking lips. When you put this on you can hardly tell it is there, the only way you know it is there is because your lips look quite glossy and shiny.
The lip gloss has got a slighty fruity smell to it which I think adds a nice touch. Unfortunately it doesn't taste as delicious as it smells though!

At the side of this page it shows some images of this lipgloss for sale, and I can't believe it! It's on sale for £14 which shows my first impressions were right, it is a very expensive lip gloss. So I'm very pleased that I got it for free. To be honest if I haven't got this for free I don't think I would have ever paid £14 for it and I won't pay that for it once it runs out. So basically if you see this on offer for £5 or less then I would say thats worth it so treat yourself. But don't get it for the full £14 because you'll be wasting your money - it's quite average and there are better and similar lip glosses you can find that are cheaper than this.

          Advantages

          Disadvantages

The samples are a really nice size but I don't think I would buy a grown up one!

I got hold of a sample size of this recently when the marketing department of a famous feminine hygiene company went into overdrive and not only apply this sample sizes to their product but in Sainsburys they were on sale for £1.00!

Not one to miss out on a bargain, I purchased two packs one is a rose colour and the other one is a bit paler..

The tubes are 4.5ml and are clear so you can see the colour quite clearly. The top is screwtop and the tip is slanted with a hole in it so you can squeeze the tube and apply the lip gloss with the tip..all very easy and uncomplicated..

The product itself is a typical lip gloss in my eyes as it is sticky but no more than my usual brand (Maybelline) and actually less stickier than a FCUK one I had for christmas... the more you put on the stickier it is and I actually like the feel of it on my lips as its very smooth... you can tell you have lip gloss on but I actually like that...it also smells lovely so I do keep licking my lips... this may explain why I have to reapply it quite a bit...

If you only put a small amount on though, you really can't feel it at all and I must admit its not as sticky either...

As for the colour, both of them don't apply the same colour that they look...! for me they are both very subtle and its more about the shine than the colour but again I really don't mind this as I actually like the colour of my natural lips so it just makes them shinier...

When you pucker your lips it does feel quite nice and whilst the tip isn't that precise as it doesn't really have a colour it doesn't matter if you are a bit heavy handed with it...

I really liked this product... the question is would I pay full price for it which I understand is £10.00.... for a lip gloss that just makes my lips shiny... probably not

          Advantages

          Disadvantages

Its got a nice shine but its too sticky

I have never brought this brand before but thought i'd give it ago as I love having different lipglosses. I always love wearing lipgloss and tend to prefer it to lipstick.

So it comes in different shades mostly they are pinks and some red there is some light brown colours as well. Its cost is about £14 so for a lipgloss i'm looking for something that is really good.

Its supposed to give fuller looking lips and be non sticky however when I first apply it does feel quite sticky. It has vitimin E in it to moisterise the lips which I find is a good thing.

It can be applied alone for a nice gloss look or it can be applied over a lipstick for an extra shine

I find that it does fade fast and I have to keep putting it back on. However that being said I do like the gloss shine that it gives apart from it being sticky.

Overall its an ok product but at £14 I would really expect it to last longer and not be so sticky so i think it is a little over priced. I wouldn't recommend buying this product.

          Advantages

          Disadvantages

A good product for those who wish to keep their lips nicely made-up whilst under water, perhaps

Having lived through the early 1980s once already I'm not really a lip-gloss-wearing kind of person. On one of the very few occasions that I put some on and then went out in public (prior to the school disco) my friend told me it looked more like I'd just been eating a greasy lamb chop. So I think that about sums up my attitude to lip gloss in general, really.

I did however try out one of these hi-shine silk touch lip glosses from Jemma Kidd make up, which I received as a free sample attached to a packet of sanitary pads (how glamorous!) recently. It was in a tiny little 4.5ml tube that measures less than three inches from the top of the lid to the heat-stamped seal at the bottom (it's quite dinky, really) - that I was absolutely flabbergasted to learn would have an RRP of a tenner (!) if it was to be sold separately. I see on the sales page for this product that a mere 5ml of this lip gloss sold in a little bottle with applicator tip would set you back £14 so I suppose it must be the really expensive stuff.

Goodness knows why. The free stuff I got was tinged a nice shade of cherry red (it was the 'Rose' variety I got) but I don't know why they put colour in it, because this tint doesn't show up on the lips once the lip gloss is on - so what's the point of that? So the colouring of the product is nice (even if it doesn't seem to achieve all that much in practice) and it has a pleasant, if non-descript sweet aroma when you put it on your mouth.

Putting it on your mouth is when the problems with the product start. It has got the consistency of - well it's something like emulsion paint, really. It's very thick - from the free sample tube you have to smear it on with your fingertip (as there's no applicator) and it spreads so reluctantly that it takes several 'goes' to get enough of it moved around far enough to successfully coat your mouth. And it's sticky as heck. The minute I got mine on I wanted to take it off because it felt cloying and gluey, but it just wouldn't rub off. I think I would sooner have abraded the upper surface of my lips off entirely, than manage to remove the lip gloss with the tissue I started off using. Most of it came off eventually - when I tried a heavy-duty wet-wipe on it, but even then there was still some residue left on me. This is clearly one of those 24/7 last-for-ever waterproof make up products you read about; you need big-guns industrial-strength designated make-up remover to get the stuff off.

My lips looked glossy for the few seconds the lip gloss was on, all right, but I still did not think it was a good look. This free sample promotion of the lip gloss on panty pads is yet another of those unfortunate instances where the manufacturers would've stood a far stronger chance of getting people to buy their product had the customers not had a chance to try the blasted stuff out first.

          Advantages

          Disadvantages

I wont be spending my money on this

I dont wear much make-up but always have painted toe nails and a lick of lip gloss or balm.

When I saw these free on Bodyform pack in Tesco I thought 'what a bargain!'. Not only were there free samples on each pack but the Bodyform packs were on offer in Tesco for 2 for £2.

Unfortunately I think that the offer was well advertised so there wasnt a choice in colour but the Rose and Bare were available so I picked one of each.

THe plastic tubes were 4.5ml and the packaging claimed that the RRP was £10 ! I thought it was a little steep and these would really have to knock my socks off for me to purchase these in the future.

OK, so these little plastic tubes are see through so you feel you are getting the full effect of what the colour will be, they have a screw off lid and a slanted top for direct application ( not an applicator wand as pictured).

I have been using or trying to use these for a few weeks now.
My initial thoughts were that they smelled lovely, the taste also was sweet and not unpleasant. Due to the shape of the tip its easy to apply by gently squeezing the tube and running the top along your lips.

Unfortunately after this its not so good. I found the gloss to be too heavy, thick and sticky. Even just applying it to my bottom lip only and then putting my lips together to apply on the top didnt work.
It feels like you have something on your lips and you want to lick it off!
The colours also are not as they would appear in the tube. The Rose for example looks like a deep pink in the tube but in reality once apllied is like a pink tinge.

By far the worst thing about this for me was going out and the wind blowing my hair onto my lips - It just stuck there and had to be prised off ! On reapplying at work, I found that my lips stick to the polystyrene cups that we have.

Im glad that these were a sample as Ive lost nothing. They are a handy small size and are OK short term so ive popped one into the bottom of my various handbags as an emergency so they wont be wasted but Ill be sticking to my favourite No7 in the future.

            Advantages

            Disadvantages

Too expensive for what it is!

When it comes to lip glosses I'm not really a fan of them to be honest. Usually I find them sticky and that they come off too easily and I prefer lip inks to lipsticks too cos having to re-apply something all the time gets on my nerves! I'm just not a gal like that!

            The Packaging:

This usually comes in an oblong see through plastic case with a black screw on/off lid that has a slanted sponge applicator on the end of it. The version I own 4 of now came to me free on packets of Bodyform products. As far as I'm aware it's the same gloss! This offer is still on various Bodyform products, that you get a free lip-gloss too so if you fancy trying this it's worth stocking up on sanitary products as I did!

So the tube is 4.5ml in size, clear plastic and the lid is black plastic and unscrews etc. The applicator under it is attached to the tube and is simply a slanted piece of plastic with a small hole in it and you simply wipe that across the lips of course.

            The Gloss Itself:

Wet and a wee bit sticky but all in all it's not too bad to be fair to it. It feels rather greasy too and tastes a little sweet and citrusy really. The taste isn't bad and it smells nice and fresh on the lips too.

It glides on rather thickly but doesn't appear it but on the lips it feels rather heavy and rather wet and I feel my lips are a bit uncontrollable! It gives like a plastic effect, it really does look wet and it feels really is very moisturising.

Sadly though this comes off on everything you touch and if your a smoker don't smoke with this on your lips cos when you pull a fag away from your lips too quickly it really does hurt and pulls skin off! lol.

Colour-wise well whatever colour you have (I have 4 colours from within this range), even if they look dark in the case or tube it goes on rather shiny and rather sheer. It adds subtle colour rather than a heavy coverage though it can be applied very evenly.

It lasts on my lips no longer than half an hour (with doing nothing at all), but basically I find this too greasy for me to bear and I don't like the way it's not long lasting and it's a gloss you have to re-apply rather too often for my liking!

Not for me this one really and it retails at about £10.00 a go! Not worth it in my opinion though if you can cope with how it feels, how quickly it disappears it is a grown up in appearance lip-gloss for sure!

Available to purchase online and in places like Boots.
