I have been wearing this foundation religiously since 2012 as it was recommended to me by a friend when I started to develop acne, While dealing and managing acne it was important for me to get a foundation that helped cover my skin as I couldn't bare to walk around with it on show, at the time I used cheaper brands such as Max Factor and Maybelline and even though they're ok foundations they're not very good for people with skin issues so I had to make a big change.
Why this foundation is best for acne prone skin
When I used other foundations that were around the £10 mark, they were very hard to apply over acne patches on my skin when they first developed, the foundation would wear off it very quickly, it could go dry and crusty and make my skin look even worse, Estee Lauder double wear foundation is made for cover ups and problem skin areas, it helps create an even tone, this foundation is well known to cover acne, blemishes, birthmarks, dark circles and other skin anomalies due to its varied shades, thickness and long lasting coverage.
The price and how long it lasts
When I first started buying this the price was £26 however it is now £31. With the economy the price of this does keep rising, however the foundation only keeps getting better with expanding shades and quality training for their make up artists, if this foundation rose to £50 I would still pay this price because to me it is 100% worth it for the way it makes me feel and look. This price is for 30ml glass bottle with a screw top lid, this is my favourite type of bottle because it looks classy, elegant and it means no foundation is left behind in the bottom you can't reach like a pump bottle, so for the money you do get every drop of this. This bottle used almost every day and sometimes even two layers of this lasts me two months. If applied correctly and precise. Cheaper foundations previously lasted me two weeks at a time so this is significantly different in the quality, price and the amount of time you get out of this.
Why so many shades
The company have just developed a few more shades and improved other shades, they now have a massive 44 shades, to some people this will seem excessive and confusing when picking a shade, honestly to get this foundation you need to have a good chat with the artists and get what is really right for you. This is one of the reasons I most love this brand, because they know and understand everyone skin and issues are completely different from the next. In my eyes a brand that only has 10 shades for skin tones isn't to be trusted because they do not take into account not everyone already has flawless skin. Estee Lauder shades are split in two, warm and cool shades, often great for summer and winter, it's best to know the right shade for each season as a cool tone in summer may look too pale for the winter. The shades really do help to accommodate those problems, if the shade matches you skin tone but is too light to cover your problems then they're going to shine through, this is why there are 44 options available to try on and get whats right and best coverage which also blends perfectly, as well as this I believe the artists are able to mix shades for you to try.
Application and wearing
The consistency of this foundation is very thick and running, but don't be put off by this as it doesn't feel the way it looks. As well as being thick, this is fast drying to can make it sticky, because of this it must be applied with a good quality foundation brush, the better the brush the better the application. I have tried this with my fingers and a sponge and it just doesn't blend correctly or evenly, so a brush is the only way. This is thick, but it goes very far if applied correctly, so this is the way I do it.
I tip the bottle upside down and give it a good shake, I take off the lid and use what is in the lid only, I will never use more than that unless needed. With just the tip of my brush I dip it in and start on my forehead and work with the lines of my skin side ways, sideways under my eyes and downwards on my nose, cheeks and chin. This blends easily and dries quickly, after it;s dried (about 15 seconds usually) I apply slightly more to my problem areas such as my cheeks and end of my nose. (It is of course suggested using the double wear concealer under, and the powder over the top but I use neither of these, I have in the past and they work well together but these days I don't need as full a coverage as I once did.)
This goes on semi matte and it feels light weight as if it hasn't even been applied, despite it's thickness, because it is thick it doesn't need be piled on which is why it feels great on. I used to use the same powder but now I just use a cheap one over the to help it set. I remember looking at myself for the first time with it on and being amazed by how different and normal I looked, this is a massive confidence boost, of course having acne you can see the bumps but the skin is one shade, one nice even tone and it helped me feel like I fit in again. This has the staying power of 15 hours and honestly I think it lasts longer than this, never in four years of using this have I had to re apply anywhere, and often on a night out if I've been too drunk to wipe my face clean my face looks exactly the same in the morning (despite the big smudged panda eyes and lipstick up the cheek)
Getting this off
This is fairly average to take off, it really depends what else you have on your skin too such as contouring, blushers, powders and other variations but generally it comes off ok, It takes me two make up wipes to full get my face clean but that includes taking off eye make up, I always give my face a good wash afterwards just to make sure my pours are clean, but Estee Lauder also do have a liquid make up remover which I found to be fantastic but I've only ever used one bottle of this.
It's a foundation I've stuck with for four years, my skin is now under medication and no longer raised acne however the redness off it is still there for now, I will no doubt continue with this product long after my acne has gone as I truly love it.
I have been using foundation for many years now i have tried and tested pretty much all foundations you can find under the sun and i didn't really find any that gave me that 'wow factor' or especially pleased me. However, this foundation is amazing!
The coverage is medium-to full, i have to use concealer on some pimples which aren't fully covered, but i'd prefer that than the formula being really heavy on my skin. The foundation is liquid and to me is quite light weight. It doesn't result in me having any breakouts and i'm not overly shiny at the end of the day. Its easy to remove and doesn't cake on my face or crease. I use this foundation pretty much every day using a fluffy face brush and i am completely converted to this foundation despite it's higher ended price.
However, the bottle design is awful. It doesn't come with a pump which i think is ridiculous because i had visions of all these horrible bacteria entering the bottle each time i took the top off and tried to poor a tiny bit on the back of my hand (which never worked) however i can honestly confirm that the MAC foundation pump fits perfectly on the bottle which has now made this foundation completely flawless in my eyes. I'm a bit apprehensive of taking this foundation around with me as it is made out of glass but i make sure it's well cushioned by other things in my bag.
I definitely recommend this product, it's coverage is beautiful, it's long lasting and it pretty much has a shade for every single skin tone you can think of.
I kept hearing good things about Estee Lauder's double wear foundation and kept thinking I might try it some day. Cue the weekend I was walking through Boots in the town centre with no make up on and it occurred to me that never was there a better time to be colour matched for some of their foundation.
The lovely young lady working on the counter was patient and took her time demonstrating three different types of double wear foundation from the compact to the light to the original. We could not find the right shade in the light version but Pebble was the one that seemed the best colour on me. I opted for a 30 ml bottle of the original foundation as the new compact held only 13 ml and I preferred to get more in quantity than pay for the packaging.
The lady did me a full face and added a few other products (checking it was OK first). I managed to choose another product to buy (some loose powder) in order to receive a generous free gift which included a small sample bottle of the double wear foundation as well.
This liquid foundation is very economical. I use a cotton bud to remove a small amount and dot it over my face (I use moisturiser and primer first to keep my skin from drying out which makes the foundation look more even). I use a blender sponge to the blend in the product. A little powder over the top fixes it in place and stops it feeling damp.
I have been perfectly colour matched with this product. There is no visible jaw line colour and you can't see it on the skin at all but it evens out redness and conceals the appearance of pores.
£30 for 30 ml and it comes in a glass jar. I got a further ten percent off the price due to an in store promotion.
I agree with the high reputation this foundation holds. It looks great on and is easy to apply and totally worth every penny!
As a loyal Mac wearer I am usually reluctant to try new foundations; however my sister recommended this product to me so I thought I would give it a change. I sampled the double wear original foundation in Pure Beige and I have to say I am extremely impressed. The foundation looks quite thin and liquid like as opposed to the creamy texture of my usual foundation so I didn't expect the coverage to be that great, but upon applying it I was pleasantly surprised. The foundation goes on smoothly and leaves a really flawless finish. It does set quite quickly so you need to blend the foundation in as soon as possible to avoid it leaving a line. The foundation does have quite a heavily made up look, so if you prefer a natural finish this may not be the foundation for you, but personally I prefer this. Sometimes with heavier foundations I find that it can emphasise the look of lines and wrinkles, but this is not the case with the Estee Lauder Double Wear. I applied the product around 8am in the morning, went to work and out for drinks afterwards and by 12 hours later I can genuinely say it was still in place and lasted better than any other foundation I have tried. This is not a cheap product (around the £30 mark), but you certainly get what you pay for and a little goes a long way. The only negative aspect is the bottle design – a glass bottle with no pump. This means it is more difficult to get every drop out of the bottle, which is very important considering the price – if this could be improved then I would give the product 5 stars.
Hi all - I recently visited my local boots estee lauder counter to get a colour match after months of my friends recommending this to me. The lady was very kind and helpful and gave me a full description of what the product is and the aims. Once she applied the colour to suit my skin she then showed me it in the mirror. It felt beautiful, so light, a great colour and the perfect coverage for my skin. The only thing that put me off was the price tag of £29.50 could I really afford this much as normally I would pay £15 maximum for a foundation. She kindly gave me a 10 day sample to take away and try for myself. So after a few times of use I couldn't actually believe how far just a small amount of the product would go, you can use as much product as you wish should you want more coverage on your skin and it still goes on perfect! The sample lasted me 14 days. My skin feels great, no break outs, lasts all day which is perfect for me as I have extremely oily skin which my face tends to get very shiny during the day. I cant describe this product anything else than amazing! After testing the product after my sample my mind was made up so I went and bought it and to be honest its probably the best £29.50 I have ever spent! Make sure you shop at Debenhams or Boots to get your point from your beauty card and advantage card. Highly recommended.
I have tried many different foundations in the past couple of years but really love this one. I usually use drugstore ( pretty cheap) foundations and powders as they seemed to do the job. I did not realise the importance of high end make up and the difference it could make to my skin. I only came across it recently but have loved the look it gives me every time I use it. This foundation is pretty pricey but way worth the money it costs. Most foundations that I wear or have worn before dry out in patches or begin to wear off very quickly. This one was different though, with just a light dusting of powder on top of this foundation is stays all day.
I don't have incredibly problematic skin but when ever I do have a couple of spots or a breakout I find that this cover it's perfectly. This gives me a flawless look which is easy to achieve on a daily basis. I believe that this foundation is with the cost, as this foundation is double the cost of one I would usually wear, it is also double the quality.
The colour of this foundation goes very well with my skin tone, I find this foundation easy to blend into my hairline and neck giving a neutral appearance. This foundation does not require much powder on top as it dries very matte. I rated this a five out of five because the foundation is high quality and the bottle is pretty big too.
This is my favourite foundation ever! I have tried a lot of foundations and since finding this foundation I won't ever use a different one again. Although its a little expensive, it lasts longer than any other foundations I have previously owned; also with foundations you really do get what you pay for and this one is truly worth every penny. With most foundations I have worn, even the likes of MAC, they will become patchy and will wear off my skin quickly throughout the day but this foundation really does last all day. It covers every blemish without looking cakey or too made up. Also it does not rub off onto any clothes so it does not stain your clothes. This foundation applys well with a brush, sponge or fingers. Also this foundation looks matte all day and even though I am pale this foundation does not appear orangey on me like many other foundations I have tried do and there is a wide range of colours to choose from. The bottle looks and feels luxurious. The only thing which I think could be improved with this foundation is the packaging because it does not have a pump, making it difficult to get the right amount of product out and not waste any of it. I order this foundation from the Estee Lauder website for £29.50. In my opinion this foundation is worth every penny and I definitely would recommend this to anybody looking for a full coverage and long wearing foundation.
Wow, this is a great foundation.
The never ending search for that all important life changing foundation kinda stopped with this product. I just can't help trying out other foundations however when I need something I can rely on this is the one foundation I must reach for on all occasions.
The foundation is just simply flawless.
I purchased this during my visit in Harvey Nichols when I won some vouchers [HV has been reviewed] and the assistant asked if I would like to test this by having my makeup done there and then.
I explained my skin issues of covering up slight blemishes and late night eye bags etc and my main concern was that my skin looked flawless even in the sunlight or photos which sometimes can highlight areas you really rather it didn't.
The advice she gave was great as she applied the foundation and tricks of the trade. But building this on my skin instead of rubbing it in makes sure that the foundation hides the issues you want. She dabbed this onto my skin instead of blending it in, only with a powder in this range did she blend but the difference was crazy good.
I brought the product hoping to get the same results at home and it worked for once!
I used the advice and worked with the products the way it was meant to and the foundation not only lasted but hid the blemishes all day.
Well worth its weight in gold this product.
You’ve probably heard about this product already, you mother probably wears it, your nan probably wears it – don’t let that put you off – there’s a very good reason – let me explain…
Price: £30 approx which is double to triple the price of its high-street / drug-store sisters. This is a high end product and therefore comes the price tag. Top tip: Estee Lauder often has bonus deals a few times a year where you can buy one product and the second for half the price or include extra products as an incentive to purchase. Buying when these offers are on is a good idea to make your money go further.
Where to buy: Any Estee Lauder counter, try department stores, Boots the chemist or online.
Who’s it for: Skin over the age of 25 to mature (I think its too heavy for younger), those looking for a heavy coverage to cover marks, blemishes and looking for a long-wear, flawless look.
Features of the product: Hailed as the stay-in-place medium coverage foundation promising 15 hours long wear. Its benefits are:
• Dermatologically tested
• Non-acnegenic; won't clog pores
• SPF 15
Estee Lauder say: ‘Flawless all day. This worry-free, long-wearing makeup stays fresh and looks natural through heat, humidity, nonstop activity. Won't change colour, smudge or come off on clothes. Feels lightweight and comfortable. Now the flawless look you see in the morning is the look you keep all day.’
My initial experience with this product: With such great reviews online already, my mother raving about it for years and my friend of the same age disowning all other foundations in favour of this one, I thought I would give it a go. I’d like to add that £30 is way beyond what I had previously paid for a foundation so I wanted to make sure I got some bang for my buck. I went to the Estee Lauder counter at my local Debenhams and started picking up foundations aimlessly looking for a match for my usual shade. This is the point where the beautifully made up counter lady approached my confused face, guided me to the chair and proceeded (to my horror) to remove my existing makeup and then pick up of a variety of shade of the double wear to match to my skin tone. She tried not one but three shade before she found a perfect match. She then even offered my sample of the shade to take away and try myself which I did. In the cold light of day the foundation was
indeed a perfect match although I did feel that a warmer tine was required as I looked rather pale, so after a week of trying I went back for another sample to try.
How to use:
• You should moisturise and use a primer on the face (Estee lauder have brought out a double wear primer which I will review later on and it really is the perfect accompaniment to the foundation it retails at about £25). The reason is will stress that it is important to moisturise and prime is that it is such a thick foundation that it will cling to the face and enter the pores; priming the skin will prevent this.
• One pea-sized drop on the back of your hand will be enough for the whole face – trust me I learnt the hard way. Using too much will make the skin look caked which is definitely not the look you want.
• A great makeup brush is required for the best results. Do not use a standard foundation brush as its likely to leave streaks (this foundation is buildable but sets extremely quickly). My recommendations are the Real Techniques Stippling Brush and Buffing Brush or the Sigma Flat top kabuki brush will allow you to swirl and set the powder onto your face with a flawless result. If you do not have an appropriate brush rub the product between the fingertips, move quickly and work into the skin from the nose outwards.
• Once set you’re foundation is done. If you want to use concealer on the under eyes I would do this immediately to ensure that it blends. Setting with powder is not necessary but will add to its last-ability.
Okay I cannot stress this enough it essential o be colour matched to this product and there are 30 plus shades so you will find one that matches your skin tone. And I 100% would say ask for a sample – don’t be shy you are spending enough on the product and the counter girls will want to ensure they get a sale off you. And keep going back for samples until you find you exact shade you’ll thank yourself for it. The sample size I was told was a weeks worth but in truth I would say it will last 2 weeks plus which is excellent and testament to the fact that a little bit of this product goes a long way – remember that bang for your buck? – I’m getting to that… samples are a great try before you buy chance to ensure you money is being spent wisely on a product you will be happy with. The product in my opinion is NOT medium coverage it is thick. It is definitely buildable if you work quickly (practice makes perfect eh?) If applied correctly you
will look flawless, almost airbrushed if you will, it will not move all day. I believe this product could be 24hour wear as opposed to its advertised 15 hours. I recently wore it to a friends wedding where I was a bridesmaid, cue flustered frantic moments getting ready, dodging a downpour on the way in and out of the church, in and out of transport, a million pictures being taken and a night of partying. I didn’t top up or re-powder once and not to blow my own horn – I looked my best all day. It does have a semi-matte healthy finish which doesn’t change colour at all or disintegrate through wear. It claims to be fragrance-free but it has a pleasant smell to it. Also as mentioned you will only need a small amount per application so you will get your moneys worth. I am a true make up addict and wear a full face 6 out of 7 days a week and a bottle lasted me 6 months. However there are some negatives to this product first being the bottle – the
product flows easily when full but takes an age to get out when there’s not much left. You can buy separate pumps but I think that just another way to get our money. Top tip: store the bottle upside down when not in use – it will same you time and frustration. Secondly as mentioned it has an SPF15 which is great as we should protect our skin from the detrimental effects of the sun however when pictures are taken at close-range with a flash the product can give you a ‘white out’ effect to the skin. Which is a pain when you look so good but the pictures don’t reflect it all the time; well I suppose Instagram and other Photoshop filters will rectify this for you and it hasn’t bothered me that much its just the odd pic. Also the colour matching is so good that when you tan (or lose tan) you will need to change you shade which could be costly, however mixing two shades works really well as they blend together so effortlessly. The positive outweigh any negatives in my opinion this fabulous foundation has stood the test of time for good reason, I’ve purchased and re-purchased this product and those from the rest of the double wear range I’m impressed and will stick with it as my holy grail foundation.
I have always used drug store make up products because I never really understood why the more premium priced products were actually so expensive in the first place. But after some research I understood that these products were far more pigmented, meaning that you were getting more coverage. I went for this one after it was recommended to me by some work colleagues whose make up always looks flawless, so I was going to take their advice.
The consistency of this product is a lot different to the many other foundations I have used. It is a lot thicker and I actually like that about it. Because it has a thick consistency you may assume that the foundation will be really heavy on your skin but trust me it is not. It feels light and not tacky at all even as the day goes on.
The foundation is super durable, which is what you need on those busy days where you do not have the time to top up your make up. The bottle does not have a pump or anything to get the foundation out, which is a bit annoying as you can not control how much you are using. Additionally it just makes things a little difficult especially when you are running low.
The product is pretty expensive but I would definitely say that it is worth the heavy price tag. In this instance you are paying for the quality and not the quantity, you do not need to constantly top it up, one application is enough.
Overall, I would definitely recommend this product.
I bought Estee Lauder Double Wear as potential foundation for my wedding day as I had read great reviews and was looking for something really long-lasting that would make my skin look flawless. Unfortunately this was really not the foundation for me.
The foundation itself gave a very full coverage and felt really heavy on my skin - I felt very "aware" of my make up and felt like I was wearing too much. I'm certainly not someone who plasters on make up, I apply a small amount at a time and build up until I'm happy with the coverage so I wouldn't say this is a result of over-application. It did really cling to my skin, however I found that especially around my nose it would start to go cakey and highlight my pores and didn't stay perfect all day. I also noticed in photos that because it's matte with a full coverage my skin looked dead! There was no "natural glow" and it really dulled my skin.
I have a few friends who absolutely swear by this foundation, so it's clear that my experience is in the minority, and when I have spoken with them about my experience of it they are surprised. I do have a preference for lighter foundations and favour a slightly dewy look so this might be why I didn't get on with this foundation. My skin can also be very slightly dry sometimes, which I think didn't help as I found it quite drying. In the end I found Diorskin Forever which is a beautiful long-lasting foundation, giving a natural look without feeling too heavy.
Estee Lauder Double Wear
After a bad car accident I was left with quite severe facial scarring which undoubtedly ruined my self-confidence.
No matter how many primers, concealers and foundations which promised 'flawless coverage' I tried or how long I spent applying them, no sooner had I left the house the scars were back on display.
Double wear by Estee Lauder is the first foundation that I have tried which LASTS ALL DAY and gives a full flawless coverage as promised. But unlike other full coverage foundations, this product allows your skin to breathe and doesn't feel like you are wearing a face mask.
Before discovering this foundation I was even contemplating going down the route of surgery to try and rectify my scars. With Double Wear this is no longer necessary.
I have received so many compliments about my skin since using this product, far more even than before my accident.
Although the price is a little bit steep, it has been worth every single penny. I have nothing at all negative to say about this product.
Estee Lauder really understand their clients and I would not hesitate to recommend them.
I am a huge fan of double wear foundation and for anyone looking for a full, long lasting coverage this foundation is the best. I would always apply double wear with a foundation brush and it really does give a flawless finish. Perfect for nights out too, especially if you plan on taking a lot of photos.
I usually pay around £26.00 in Debenhams or Boots for a bottle and I usually buy 2 bottles a year. As the foundation is quite thick you don't need a lot and you use even less when applying with a brush rather than with a sponge or your fingers. So my advice would be to invest in a decent foundation brush.
The only downside of this foundation is one of the benefits. As it is so thick you have to spend a long time taking it off in the evenings. If I didn't clean my skin properly in the evening I would quite often break out in spots and I would then find myself applying even more foundation to try and cover the spots I got from it. Not a good cycle to be in.
However as long as you clean your skin properly in the evening. This foundation is the best on the market.
I don't splurge on make up products and am happy to wear a Rimmel lipstick or No 7 eyeliner for example. However, I like to pay a bit more for my foundation, because I feel the right one really makes a difference and better quality shows I think, so I aim for the £30 plus range. Every so often, when my foundation bottle is getting low, I get the urge to change brands and try something new and it was for this reason that I found myself at the Estee Lauder counter. The staff were very helpful and gave me a sample of their Double Wear foundation.
Although the first shade I tried didn't suit, a further trip to the beauty counter got me another sample the colour of which matched my skin perfectly. This foundation has great coverage and looks flawless once applied. I am usually wary of long lasting foundations because my skin is quite dry and in order to have staying power most need to have a more drying formula. However, once I apply a good moisturiser first this spreads easily and I don't need a lot for one application - in fact the sample lasted for quite a while. This, of course, is a bonus as it means a bottle lasts longer! By the time I am going to bed, it is still very much in place - not something I could claim for previous foundations. In addition, it is not the most expensive of those available at the beauty counters so is good value for what you are getting.
The packaging and bottle is unremarkable - something I'm not really bothered about as I'm more concerned about the contents! I'm not sure I will be in a hurry to move brands after this, as I think the Double Wear will be hard to beat, both on results and price.
I was recommended this product by a friend, her skin always looked so flawless and this product was her secret!
I always have trouble finding foundations as I'm so picky, I want coverage but I don't want to feel my skins caked in makeup and I don't want my makeup to cause any skin problems like breakouts or dryness PLUS I'm pretty pale!
First stop was Estee Lauder counter in Debenhams, lovely lady on counter removed my makeup and applied the foundation to half of my face and wow one side of my face looked flawless and this was with one application! The lady did say for extra coverage you can build it but overall you don't really need too maybe just slightly over blemishes and blend!
First day to work wearing it had compliments on how lovely my skin looked, so obviously did the trick!
My favourite foundation yet, and trust me I've tried many! Staying power is amazing, The coverage is amazing and they have many colours to suit every skin shade, doesn't feel cakey or thick on your skin either! The bottle allows you to get ever last bit out unlike pump bottles!
The one downside for me is its difficult to remove and you need an oil based remover to remove this, I use dermalogica pre cleanse and that does the trick. But I can't complain too much about that as that is obviously why it stays on so well throughout the day!
