Last year I read a review about the Essie matte finisher and thought that it sounded quite good, but as I love my nails to have a glossy finish I wasn't really sure if I'd use it much so didn't want to pay £11.00 for it. I came across ELF's matte top coat a few months after reading the review while browsing the ELF website and decided to try it as at £1.50 for a 10ml bottle it seemed like a bargain - plus I knew that if I didn't like it I wouldn't have wasted much money! Like all ELF products the nail varnish is cruelty free (hasn't been tested on animals) and it's free of any harmful ingredients. It is infused with vitamin E which for the price I was impressed by! The varnish is packaged in a sturdy plastic bottle which is quite small. It's the same 'square' kind of shape as the other ELF nail varnishes with a black lid and black writing on the front simply saying the brand and product name. The bottle is transparent meaning that the clear varnish is visible. The lid has a very short wand attatched to it and the brush is attatched to the end. The brush is a good size and the bristles are soft and well compacted with no stray bristles which ensures neat and precise application. I find that the lid is a little bulky due to the square shape and it is hard to grip properly which makes application a little more awkward but this isn't a massive issue. The brush does pick up quite a lot of product so it's important to wipe off any excess before applying each coat else it is quite messy. The varnish itself has the usual nail varnish smell which soon fades and it's a good consistency - very slightly runny but not so much so that it doesn't stay put. I apply this over the top of freshly applied nail varnish (once it has dried obviously) and it transforms them from glossy to matte within a matter of minutes. I love using this with a range of different colours and whether I use it on a pink or black varnish the effects are the same. The varnish doesn't take very long to dry - 2-3 minutes and there's no hint of shine at all once it's dried. It doesn't feel heavy or anything on my nails and the finish is completely smooth. I am always impressed with the results, however the results aren't very long lasting and after two days (on average) the shine starts to come through so it needs re-applying. It doesn't chip easily and I usually remove it after around five days. Removing it doesn't take too long. Overall, recommended.
I picked up this clear nail polish but it wasn't until it was delivered I noticed it wad actually a matte polish. At just £1.50 for 10ml it's seriously good value but as I bought it during a 50% sale I actually only paid 75p which is excellent value I think. I go through stages of wearing nail polish to never wearing any for months so this was recently rediscovered and used again after months of abandonment. The bottle comes as any nail polish does but is specific to the ELF range which is a shape that is described as 'squoval' a mix between a square, and an oval. It is slightly rounded in the centre tapering off to the oval shape but become straight at either end, this makes it easy to hold but not so easy to cram as many polishes into a small space. It's not heavy but it does have the look that it could be with a large bottom part with the polish starting about a 1/4 up from the bottom. The whole bottle is transparent with 'elf nail polish' on the front and a matte black lid which holds the brush to apply to your nails. I like that the bottle is transparent as you can easily distinguish which polish this is as well as knowing how much is left. I really like the shape of the bottle, it looks more expensive than just £1.50. Firstly I prepare and polish my nails as I always do and once they have fully dried this is when I reach for this product. The top twists off easily and I haven't found any problems with the top clogging with polish and becoming stuck and difficult to open. The brush isn't very long, I really like the Revlon polish as they have really long brushes which makes it easy to apply without the lid getting in the way of the view but this one is rather short. The bristles are also pretty short, and aren't as full and thick as other polishes I've used. It picks up the product well although you do have to wipe excess from the top of the inside of the bottle. The polish is very wet (obviously) but it's pretty runny which can make it difficult to apply easily to the nails, I find this needs 3 strokes over my nail, one in the middle and one either side to coat the full nail, this isn't a one sweep polish. I find it takes time to dry, it gets tacky quickly but it can be a mistake to assume this as dry because smudging it will ruin the whole nail and you have to start again. I tend to sit with my nails spread for around 5 minutes to make sure this is completely dry. Once dry the nails rather than having a high polish, shiny finish to them will have a matte effect which is different. I have used this polish over ELF polishes as well as Sally Hansen, Rimmel, Revlon and whatever others I have upstairs and I have found that this gives a mattifying effect over whatever polish I may use. I really liked the effect it gave my nails, it was something different but I can't say I would wear it every time, some of my polishes just look much better with a clear polish over the top rather than this matte effect one. It doesn't take away from the colour at all which I thought it may have it dries on clear leaving the polish in it's original colour and pigmentation just devoid of any shine. After around 2-3 days the polish started chipping and I found the top coat I had used (this one) was peeling off and leaving the undercoat on and on some nails chipping the whole nail colour. I removed it as I normally would with a cotton pad and nail polish remover but I found it required a little more effort to get rid of it which isn't anything other than a little more time consuming which is fine by me. Overall this is a really good little product, it's cheap, does the job, gives me a different type of effect on my nails, it leaves the colour on and protects my nails (apparently with added vitamin E but personally this is nothing but a bonus in a polish). The only problems I have is with the brush which although hasn't gone bald or anything isn't the best I have used but then again for the price I don't think I can really complain, my other bug bear is that it starts chipping after a couple of days although when I am going through a polish faze I tend to change my colour every couple of days anyway. I'd definitely recommend it if you want to try a matte nail polish as by all standards this is a pretty good one.
Have bought this back when the matte nailpolish hype started as it was very cheap, but as with most ELF products it's hit or miss and you never know. The packing is the same as all elf nailpolish, a simple design which looks more expensive than it is. The quality of the brush is nothing special, does not affect the application much Now for the actual content, I was hoping for a better quality. This has to be shaken really good before and applied in a think even coat, and do it fast so it doesn't leave streaks. If you apply it too tick it seems to look a bit cracked if that makes sense. The matte effect tends to rub off quicker than I was hoping, and it looks more matte and plain, rather than smooth and porcelain doll like - yeah, this is what I was expecting from other matte nailpolish photos- I don't feel like it brings any changes to how much a nail polish lasts. A definite advantage is that it can save you from buying a nailpolish in each of your favourite colours/ you can apply it over any of your favourite nailpolish.
With Elf (Eyes Lips Face) recently sending me a 50% discount code to use in their online cosmetic shop I decided to grab a load of new stuff! With it only costing me £3.50 delivery per order made too I seriously made the most of it and one thing I really did want was a matte clear nail polish. I own loads of nail polishes (and I mean loads of them lol) but using them regularly (only on my toes as I bite my nails for my sins!) I do get bored of them and all of them are glossy and I thought that only £1.50 a bottle (75p to me when I ordered it!) it was worth revitalising the look of my nails and getting a bit more trendy! The packaging is simple of the 10ml bottle. It is see-through and with black lettering on it and we are told that it is Elf Nail Polish and the black plastic lid twists on and off the top of it with ease and contains a short white plastic wand with a small black good quality brush to the bottom of that on the base of the bottle we are told that it is an Elf product and the size is stated. It came in a black box, again on that we are told what it is and that it contains Vitamin E and the website details are given on there too (Elf.com). The Nail Poilsh itself: Well this is of course a wet, transparent nail polish designed to be used as a top coat over any nail polish of your choice and smells like one too. Simply apply you chosen base colour and apply normally allowing it to dry and then when your sure it is dry and looking even apply a coat of this over the top of it. This sets rather quickly and dries clear and doesn't damage your base colour at all and when it does dry (within a couple of minutes) it really does stop your base colour being glossy or shimmery and just colour blocks it! I was amazed the first time it did this but it really does work! The nail feels strong though i can't say that the Vitamin E this contains does much for my nail in honesty but the results of this are astounding and rather immediate. This I found to start to stop working and chip slightly in about 3 days and to remove it was a little more difficult that when I just go to remove ordinary nail polishes but it is achievable...just a little more time consuming! This is a brilliant product that allows me to wear my nail polishes glossy or matte giving my nail polishes two ways of being worn now and I love it! Only available from Elf.com
I found this clear nail polish by E.L.F a while ago, it was really cheap and I had just lent my clear polish to a friend, so decided to buy one. I bought it as a make do product until I got my original clear polish back, and I was expecting this so be a second rate product because of the price, but I actually really like it. It works just as well as any other (expensive) clear nail polish I have ever used, and because of the price and the quality overall I am pretty impressed with this buy. I sometimes use the polish on its own, as it looks nice by just adding a more obvious shine to your natural nails for a more relaxed and natural look. I more often use it though, over the top of a coloured nail varnish. It adds a nice shine to the overall look, and it also protects the varnish, making sure the colour of the nail varnish does not fade easily, and also preventing the varnish from chipping too easily. When I use this product on top of my nail varnish, my nail polish stays on for a little over a week without chipping.
I was so pleased when I saw Elf had a matte finisher nail polish as I had been looking for one for a while! As far as packaging goes, it looks like it was an expensive product, not over done or tacky. The price was only £1.50, really good value like all of Elf's products. I used this nail polish over a few of my favourite nail polishes and found it did make all of them matte. It appeared to dry quite quickly but was soft for quite a while after. It did wear off. After a few days I noticed some of the shine was coming through from the other nail polish, but it still looked fairly matte and didn't look bad at all. I really like this product, especally over black nail polish. It allows you to create new looks with the nail polishes you already have without having to shell out alot of money to buy different matte shade or just a similar clear matte nail polish. When mine runs out ill definatly be buying another one as it is just handy to have
As some of you will know I've had a hankering for matte finish nail polish recently and had a disasterous experience with an actual matte polish. I thought my matte days were finished until I found this product on E.L.F's website. Quickly for those who don't know E.L.F can be found at www.eyeslipsface.co.uk and have a wide range of cosmetics for £1.50 and some for slightly more. This Matte Finisher was in the nail section and cost £1.50 for a 10ml bottle. When the item arrived I noticed it was packaged very smartly with a black matte box which made it look alot more expensive than it is. It tells us it is infused with vitamin E for stronger, healthier nails and is tolune, formaldehyde and dibutyl phthalate free. On the back it tells us the product has revolutionary bristle design so it applies flawlessly and evenly, it will instantly update any glossy polish to a matte look in seconds and it is a quick dry forumla. To use you apply a normal glossy polish, let it dry then apply a coat of this on top to change it to matte. Not really convinced this was going to work very well I found myself staring at my already painted toenails and wondering if I should start by trying it on them. I decided to go ahead as they were definitely dry having been painted a few days previously. The first thing I noticed about the product is it looks like a cloudy clear nail varnish and smells really strong of chemicals. I use it in the bathroom with the window open so it doesn't drift around the house. I examined the brush for these "revolutionary bristles" but I don't quite know what I'm looking for and can see nothing unusual about them so perhaps it's what they are made of. I quickly applied one coat to all my nails, it goes on easily and looks shiny like clear nail varnish while it's wet. I waited a few minutes before having another look and found to my surprise it really had worked. My previously shiny nail polish was now a solid matte look with no patchiness or disruption to the original polish. Rather pleased with this I recalled the "quick drying formula" and touched a nail only to find it was still very tacky and smudged a bit. This happened for several minutes after applying so it does take rather a long time to dry completely. I'm very impatient about waiting for nail polish to dry so I was doing a fair bit of tutting and sighing during this time. After about 5 minutes though the polish was totally dry and I was left with a matte version of the same colour I'd been wearing. This doesn't alter the colour of the polish or move it off the nail as long as it's dry before you apply. Since then I've tried it on various other colours and brands of polish with the same results, shiny to matte in a few minutes. This product really pleases me because it doesn't require me to use about 4 coats and still get a patchy finish like the matte polish I bought did, it can be used on any of the colours I already own so is very economical as I don't have to hunt down matte versions and one coat does the job without fail as long as the polish underneath is totally dry. As for removing, it does require a soaked cotton wool pad left in place for a couple of seconds before you wipe, it seems to go a bit stodgy. It doesn't, however, chip any easier than normal polish again unlike the matte polish I bought, and I've found no problems with using cream near it or soaking my nails in water etc. It's quite simply a brilliant addition to anyone's collection of nail polishes so you can alter your look if you feel like being a bit different and going matte for a while. I'm not going to knock a star off for the longer drying time because the product works so well so a full 5 stars from me.
