I have worn foundation for years now whether or not I need to all the time is questionable but I feel better with it on and it gives my face a much more even complexion.
***CHOOSING THE RIGHT BLEND***
I have never really found a foundation that has been a perfect fit despite trying many, I don't think I have used the same one twice as yet! With many BB, CC, full cover, medium cover, corrects and evens promises I find I get lost in the midst of it all and just pick one and take pot luck quite often.
To try and prevent myself for yet another miss match I though I would go more expensive and try going to a make up counter to get my face made up, a sort of try before you buy affair.
My chosen counter was Clinique. Never tried there products before but had heard good comments from friends and they seemed to have a simple approach to make up and skin care.
After a brief discussion and face paint I ended up with Clinique even better. My shade is ivory but fear not there are 26 shades currently so they will find most people a match. Another point I was told was to test the foundation on the back of you palm to match your colour, it is a good indicator but I did feel much better being matched my the make up girl as you can actually see it on your face and try different ones, plus you get your makeup done for free!
***WHAT DOES THE PRODUCT SAY FOR ITSELF***
Clinique even better is supposed to even out your skin tone and correct imperfections along the way and also is sun factor 15 which is a real plus and must for me as I am always out in walking my dogs and burn quite easily. The product also has anti ageing properties, which is always a bonus!
***SO LETS GET PLASTERING***
The foundation is very light compared to cheaper brands that I have bought before and goes on smoothly whether with a brush which I prefer or with fingers when I'm in a rush! It blends well into the skin especially if you put it on after using a moisturizer and primer. When using a brush I do find I need to blend a little more or smudge over brush marks to get a perfect result. As the colour is a good match I find no defining lines down the side of my face if I miss a bit of blending.
It gives a medium to full coverage according to the manufacturers. I find it is more medium, if I have a spot I would need to use a concealer in order to acquire better concealment.
Regarding last ability, I apply every morning on getting up and if I am working it tends to disappear around my nose and forehead by diner time as I am running around most of the time I don't think that is an issue particularly. If I am at home I need to touch up by teatime usually.
It is liquid in nature so I find a little goes a long way, in fact I tend to apply foundation twice a day as by the early evening I need topping up or a complete re do if going out somewhere. Even with this my foundation has lasted me just over a year and it has a two-year expiry from opening so not worry about it going off either.
It does not really have a smell either which is nice; I don't like the heavy make up smells you can get from some companies.
***VALUE FOR MONEY***
With mostly twice a day usage for a year my £24 works out at less than ½ a pence a day! Which I think is excellent and makes the more expensive price seem worthwhile.
The bottle is 30mls and plastic so it is easy to throw in your handbag or store away on a shelf.
***IS IT WORTH THE HYPE***
I believe this is the best foundation I have bought so far. That is not to say I wont try another, but I would certainly buy this one again which is a first for me. It has encouraged me to try more of their products and spend a little more on make up than I used too.
Available from many big chemists like www.boots.com www.clinique.co.uk www.debenhams.co.uk and can be found online at make up stores.
Review maybe posted on ciao and dooyoo under the same username ☺
I have been a loyal customer of Clinique make up products for several years. It was my mum who introduced me to this brand and I have been hooked ever since. I have been through a couple of Clinique foundation products and this is the one that fits me like a designer suit. Before this Clinique Even Better foundation came out, I used to wear their 'Perfectly Real' make up. However, I believe Clinique did a good job upgrading their foundation choices.
So, this Clinique Even Better foundation is available in several shades. The shade I have been using for more than 2 years now is 'Shade 3 (Ivory)'. It comes in a squeezable cylindrical bottle as shown in the picture above. The bottle is opaque however, so you won't be able to see how much foundation is left. The good thing about the bottle design is that it is possible to place it upside down when I am close to running out, so I won't waste any remaining foundation. Considering a 30 ml bottle costs £23 (used to be £22), every last drop shouldn't be wasted.
The performance of this foundation is just brilliant. It declares that this Even Better foundation 'evens and corrects'. From my experience, it is partly true. I suffer from acnes like most of the unfortunate girls in their twenties and this foundation is wonderful in covering up the darker spots on my face. It does even the skin tone but not too much; however, the good thing is that this foundation can double as a concealer. So what I do is that after I've put on a layer of foundation, I use a smaller brush (like a lipstick brush) to dab a tiny bit of foundation on the darker spots and it works great as a concealer.
Moreover, the foundation is said to be able to 'correct' the skin tone. It probably does but it is a very slow process and I can never distinguish whether it is the foundation or the natural skin shedding process that lightens the dark spots. Officially, Clinique says that this foundation corrects the skin discolouration over time. For me, it's the great coverage and the matt look that sells this foundation to me rather than the 'skin correction' aspect.
This foundation is also long-wearing. Sometimes, I would be out for 12 hours and at the end of the day, the foundation would still look good (I do use a primer underneath the foundation though). I have never needed to touch up my foundation once I've put it on in the morning so it's great for busy people. It also has SPF 15 and this is great for use during the holidays. I used this foundation when I went on holiday last year and I didn't need to use any additional sun cream on my face.
Overall, this is a great foundation and I would greatly recommend this. The texture is smooth and the smell is pleasant (it's not very strong). It works like a BB/CC cream that is popular right now, but this gives greater coverage. Personally I think it is the perfect foundation for daily wear as well as for parties/night outs.
I have always had trouble finding a foundation for my skin that has good coverage and is the right colour for my skin. I have the lightest shade in this foundation because I have really pale skin but it matches perfectally. I think the foundation is really creamy and the foundation is really great for red undertones. I found this foundation really covers my blemishes and scars well to the point that they aren't even visible. Another great thing I love is that this foundation lasts all day and every time I have worn this I have never needed to top it up throughout the day. One of my most favourite foundations to date, I couldn't live without it!
I always thought Clinique makeup was for mums, probably because I associate it with my mum wearing it my whole life. I have always swapped and changed with my foundation, from Rimmel to Maybelline and was relatively happy with them. I then bought some Avon foundation and it was diabolical. It was like spreading sticky, watery PVA glue on my face. I live abroad and my mum had come to visit, it was actually my hen night! She kindly said I could use her Clinique 'even better' makeup and I was hooked from then on. I even wore it on my wedding day.
The texture is rich, creamy and smooth, but does not feel heavy on your face. A tiny bit really does go a long way, especially if you use a foundation brush as you don't get it all over your hands. It doesn't feel sticky or itchy it's just so natural and the skin match is excellent (obviously you have to find your colour) but mine blended in beautifully. My face looks so flawless when I wear it, and yes I have had several comments on how nice my skin looks. I don't have a blotchy or spotty complexion as a general rule but my mum does suffer with acne scars and yet this makeup covers it amazingly.
It is also durable and lasts all day so no need to re do after a few hours. It is slightly expensive, my husband nearly had a heart attack when I spent 24 euros on it, but I think it is worth every penny.
