I bought this chapstick for £1 so I wasn't expecting a lot from it as I normally spend about £3 on a product like this. I decided to give it a go because of the apple scent - most lip products I have tried are just bland. The lip balm comes in a standard tube with bright green packaging which I don't find the most visually appealing but it is nothing less than I would expect from a product of this cost.
As soon as you remove the cap, you can smell the apple. The balm itself is coloured green and the apple fragrance and taste is quite strong once applied too. For me, perhaps because I'm used to plain products, it was a little too overpowering but that is the only reason it lost a star. It's not strong enough to be really unpleasant but I just wouldn't wear it if going to a meal, for instance, as I worry it would interfere with taste.
The balm itself can be applied really easily and feels silky smooth for a l8ng time after application. It is definitely highly moisturising - I applied it to my lips when they were painfully chapped and after two applications my lips felt back to normal. It also claims to have SPF15 so it is a great choice of lip balm for sunny holidays.
I would definitely recommend this product - the quality of the product itself is really high especially considering the price. Just make sure you only buy it if you REALLY like apples!
Shrek forever apple Chapstick
On a recent trip into town, I came to realize that I had really dry, and rough lips. Handily at a till point of a local store (which I think is affiliated with home bargains) they had Shrek 'Forever Apple' Chapsticks by the till. (Lovingly referred to as Shrek stick by myself, and my partner). The product came with a safety wrapper on, to ensure it was hygienically clean before opening, and comes in the standard style packaging of a tube, with a twist bottom, and a tightly fitting lid, that will protect the contents until intentionally removed. This cost me the princely sum of 89p.
The branding on the packaging differs from the standard apple Chapstick, in that it has a picture of a smiling Shrek on the label. Inside the lip balm is a nice smooth consistency, that smooths onto your lips evenly, and easily. It is a pale green colour, and it holds the scent of apples well. When it is applied it soaks into my lips well, and helps them to remain moisturized. The apple flavour is apparent after application, but I don't find it's so strong that it encourages me to lick my lips constantly.
The product can be open for 12 months before it should be discarded. I have used about 1/3 of the stick in the last 6 - 8 weeks. (The packaging is about 1.5 inches long, and it seems to be about 1/3 down the tube so far, however I can honestly say I have never specifically measured it). I have been using it probably several times a day on average and it is lasting well. Obviously how much longer it lasts will be affected by how often it is applied.
Overall I am happy with the product it keeps my lips soft, and moisturized. The product itself remians on my lips for around 45 minutes, but the softening effects last longer.
It was a fantastic purchase for the price, although the packaging may really be more suited to children (not that this bothers me)...
Overall 5*'s here...
Both my daughter and I suffer with dry lips, especially during the winter months but I think we have a lip balm monster in our house as whenever the colder months come around, I can never find one. When I spotted these recently on offer in Home Bargains, I decided to pick a few up so I was stocked up in time for winter. Unfortunately, Lauren spotted my buying these and wanted one straight away so they ended up getting used straight away.
With most products, I prefer fruit fragrances so I picked up the apple version, Chapstick do several different varieties of fruit, but also medicated and moisturising balms. The RRP of these ranges from £1 to £2.50 depending upon the shop and they are widely available in places such as high street chemists, Poundshop, Wilko's and most supermarkets.
Like a lot of lip balms, the Chapstick comes in a small tube with is covered in a bright green plastic wrapper with the product details on in bold white writing. What I liked most about this was the fragrance, as soon as I removed lid, I could smell the large juicy apples, I found that although a little on the sweet side, Chapstick have definitely managed to capture the fragrance of apples. The top part of the tube is the lid which is easily removed and to get the lip balm out, all I need to do is to twist the base, this is really easy to operate and my daughter can manage to do so to.
Applying the lip balm is really easy, just a quick glide over my lips does the job and gives my lips a nice coating and giving my lips a nice sheen which is good. Immediately after applying, my lips feel wonderfully soft and hydrated but a downside of the Chapstick is that I do find that I have to re-apply the lip balm quite frequently though almost within an hour or so of applying. Whilst this doesn't concern me too much, my daughter who is 5 cannot take these to school so this is a little disappointing.
The Chapstick does provide SPF15 according to the packaging, I cannot really comment on whether this works (especially after the so called summer we having), I will say that neither of us have experienced any problems or burning.
Overall, I would recommend this lip balm, the price is good and after using for a few days, my lips do feel in better condition and a lot softer so I would give this 4 out of 5 stars.
Thanks for reading.
Home Bargains are currently doing a run on Lypsyl and Chapstick lip balms and they seem to be selling a lot of them off at really rock bottom prices. There is nothing at all wrong with them, they are all new and sealed and I imagine it's because they are end of line products or something and they just need to get rid of them. As there is no 'use by' date (that I can see) on any of them, I have been stocking up on a few as I do go through a lot of lip salves and balms as I suffer with dry lips both during the winter and the summer months. We have booked a holiday to Rome at the end of July when school's break up and I know I will need to go armed with plenty of lip balms, otherwise my lips will be sure to suffer with the heat.
The ones I bought when I popped out there in Durham the other week are apple flavoured ones. I have never used an apple flavoured lip balm before so I was quite intrigued as to how this one was going to be. Obviously,, I expected it to smell of apples -and it does. The apple smell is really fresh and sweet smelling and though it might sound a little sickly having that on your lips after a while, it's really not. It's very pleasant and I love to use this balm as I feel it's more of a summery fragrance and better for this time of the year when the sun is just beginning to emerge.
The apple flavoured ones are green packaging and these ones from Home Bargains cost 19p each - I bought four of them. The brand is Chapstick and as I have used Chapstick balms before and been really pleased with the results, I knew I wasn't going to be disappointed in the product. My only worry was the apple smell - but as I have said, there was nothing to worry about as the smell is actually really fruity and nice.
The added bonus of this apple Chapstick is that it also contains a SPF15, which is ideal for me as I'll be saving one of these for my Roman getaway. The Chapstick looks the same as all the others in this range and you have to twist it up to get the balm to come out of the top. It's sheer when it goes onto the lips and it gives a light subtle sheen to the lips. I have only worn this one on its own, though with other Chapsticks I have used, I have also worn them on top of lipstick.
It softens my lips and helps to heal and cracks and splits I have. I have been wearing it again today when we took the dog for a walk along the beach and as it was a bit blowy down there, I felt that this balm really did help to protect my lips from the wind. My daughter loves this particular one and I have given her a little stick for herself as she loves the apple smell.
Overall, I'm delighted with my little 19p bargains and if you manage to see any at your local Home Bargains store, I recommend you pick one up before they all vanish.
I bought a couple of the apple chapsticks recently from Home Bargains as they were a fantastic price and it is something I find handy to have in my pocket. The Chapsticks were probably a limited edition too as they were Shrek branded (but still apple flavoured). An added bonus is that they have a built in SPF 15 which is handy all year round.
The Chapstick comes in a round tube that screws round to release the product. It has a cap that snaps on and off and the actual product inside is a light green.
The Chapstick does smell of apple lightly and it goes on to the lips in a sheer way so can be worn alone or under or over lipstick or gloss. Whenever my daughter sees me use my apple Chapstick she always wants a go too so it becomes shared between us.
I mentioned that this was a bargain but can you believe I got it for 19p from Home Bargains? I bought a couple and gave my sister one as a little treat. She was amused by the Shrek branding I think!
At this price, you really can't go wrong. The sticks work fine for me and last around an hour before I feel I want to reapply. The main problem I have with these is losing them as I leave them in my pockets or they fall in to the depths of my handbag. I really can't grumble for the money though.
If I'm honest, I didn't really need another lip balm but the price lured me in and I actually wish I'd bought more as these are really nice. They are just the right consistency and have added sun protection for lips. Any one at any age or sex can enjoy these lip balms I think. Definitely worth looking out for.
I go through a lot of lib balms during the colder months. Not just to keep my lips moist and refreshed, but because they taste so good too! One of the lip balms I'm using this year is this Apple Chapstick.
Chapstick lip balms are widely available to purchase from supermarkets and chemists. I paid around £1 for mine from my local Boots. There isn't any substantial packaging to them, they come simply wrapped in a transparent plastic wrapper. Occasionally they come packaged on a small piece of cardboard too, I have no idea why some are just wrapped in plastic and some come on cardboard!
To use the lip balm you simply pull the top off from the top of the tube then twist the bottom and the lip balm will be revealed, just like a lip stick. The lip balm has a very light green colour to it and also smells like apples as soon as you open the lid. It doesn't smell like apples solely and has more of an apple sweet type smell to it.
As the colour of the lip balm is light green I was a little worried that after application it would leave a pale green colour on my lips but I was wrong. Once applied it just gives a nice shiny appearance. The lip balm is easy to apply and doesn't have the greasy type feeling you can get with some other brands. It also smooth's over my lips well and doesn't clump in areas once applied.
The one thing I really like about lip balms is the taste, there is nothing better than rubbing your lips together to get a taste of whatever you are wearing. The apple property of this lip balm is nice and it does taste like apple. The taste isn't in your face but at the same time the subtleness is nice as it does have a very sweet taste to it.
I tend to reapply as soon as the taste has gone so do end up reapplying quite a few times each day, despite using it so much there is still loads of lip balm left and I am confident it will last the colder months without running out.
For only a pound, I think this Chapstick apple lip balm is definitely worth it. It is clear once applied, keeps lips moist and tastes lovely. Recommended!
I have always used this brand of Chap Stick. I have tried all the different flavours and the apple flavour is by far my favourite.
First of all, the apple Chap Stick smells amazing. It doesn't smell cheap or fake like the other flavours they do but smells sweet and edible. The smell reminds me of apple sour sweets and doesn't taste too bad either. Not saying id buy it to eat it but its never nice putting on lippy that taste of chemicals.
It's lovely to apply and often do just because its feels smooth on the lips rather than because they are chapped. Unlike Vaseline it comes in a tube so you don't have to get it all over your fingers getting them greasy to apply it.
Its quite pricey compared too many other brands and probably is one of the most expensive in the shops. I usually buy it from my local coop for more that £2. You can probably buy this online or at boots for less however.
For its purpose, it doesn't do the best job. It does sooth sore lips however, it does very little to get rid of chapped lips. I buy it out of habit more that to get rid lip problems.
Would I recommend it?
Yes but not if you have major chapped lips. You would probably be better off with another brand however, for something to shove at the bottom of the bag for potential smooches or cold weather etc. It smells great and is easy to apply.
I always seem to be prone to chapped, sore lips. In the summer it is the sunshine that seems to cause the problem, in the winter it is the harsh, cold, windy weather and whatever the season I find air-conditioning and the blowers in my car all seem to set them off.
I always seem to be buying lip-salves. I leave them in my various handbags and can't remember where they are or even worse, I leave them in my jeans pocket and send them through the washing machine so no wonder I need a constant supply of new ones. I have never found one that works a lot better than any other so I tend to buy whatever is on offer at the time. I purchased two different Chapsticks when Boots had them on offer but usually they are about £1.05 each and are sold loose although I have seen them backed on cardboard too.
I selected the Apple Chapstick because I fancied a change from the strawberry or cherry products that I tend to buy. It is presented in a white tube with a lid that has a plastic wrapper that is bright green. The outer doesn't tell you a lot; it lists the dozens of ingredients in the balm and just says that it offers everyday protection. When I had picked it up in the shop I was sure that the box holding all of the Chapsticks said it offered UV protection but there was no mention of this on the product itself. I have looked it up since and it seems that the Apple offers SPF15, as does the cherry one but the Strawberry is only SPF 10. I feel that this should be put on the packaging to prevent confusion.
The top simply pills off the tube and then you wind the balm up from the bottom like a lipstick. The balm itself is pale green in colour with a mild, sweet smell. If I was doing a blind "aroma" test I am not sure that I would have immediately said that this smelt of apples as the fragrance of fruit is very faint but I suppose it does smell a little like apple flavoured sweets.
I applied the product onto my lips. It slides on very smoothly and easily and I was very pleased to see that there was no hint of greenness when it was on my lips. The product does not sting at all, even when my lips have been quite sore. This Chapstick felt moisturising and protecting on my lips but it did not feel overly heavy or greasy and only added a very slight sheen to my lips not a gloopy shine like you get with Vaseline type products.
I have found with some flavoured lip balms I tend to keep licking them. I think it is the strong aroma that seems to trigger this response. I have found that the faint smell of this one means that I am not tempted to keep licking my lips. In fact when I do occasionally lick them I am surprised to find that they taste sweet. The flavour is actually really nice, it has no resemblance to apples but it is nice and sweet without being sickly.
I have been using this particular Chapstick for a few weeks now. I tend to apply it a couple of times a day and always try to put some on last thing at night. My lips have been feeling really soft and smooth so I really believe that this Chapstick is definitely better than the previous Lipbalm that I was using. I also feel that it is lasting really well and I have hardly had to twist the balm up at all.
I do not have sensitive skin and have had no problem with this at all but it does contain parabens which are commons allergens.
I am really pleased with this Apple chapstick and hope to keep hold of it and not be stupid enough to put it through the washing machine!
Rooting around in my handbag I came across this ChapStick Apple Apple Lip Balm and when looking into the handbag further I noticed I have three more different flavours too, this is something I always carry around with me as my lips dry out fast in winter and the skin peels and cracks.
This is so handy to have in your bag or pocket or make-up bag and it's only around £1.20 to buy and it's even cheaper if you go to shops like Savers or B&M shops as then you can pick them up for 79p but I like the flavoured ones and this apple one is one of my prefered choices.
It has a twist up action so that you can use a little at a time and the stick is a very pale green colour and it smells of apples and does taste of apples too.
It protects the lips against the cold and frosty weather but is also just a good to use in the summer months as it protects against the UV rays of the sun.
The active ingredients are white petrolatum which gives it that greasy feel to it if you apply to thickly then there is Octinoxate and Oxybenzone which pervent sunburn, chapped lips and protect from the drying effects of wind and cold weather.
Do not use on children under six months old.
It tastes of tangy apple and has moisturisers in it for helping to make the lips soften , it doesn't last all day and has to be applied regularly as it's not very absorbant and stays on the lips so that you can feel it and taste it after use.
If you put too much on you can tell its there as it feels greasy and you then have to take a bit off, but as it doesn't absorb quickly it stays there as a shiled for the weather, stopping it damaging the lips.
When you have this on the lips look shiney and glossy as it's see through and shines them , it doesn't plump the lips but you can see you have it on when you apply it.
It can be bought in most chemists and beauty shops and you can even get it online at Amazon and other places.
I think this is a handy thing to have around and it's easy and convenient to apply, also if you don't feel like wearing lipstick everyday you can use this so that the lips shine and look noticable.
It gets my 10 out of ten vote.
I love this lip balm, it is one that I would recommend and buy again. Bought from Boots in a multipack of 3 which consisted of 3 flavours Apple, Watermelon and Orange and priced at around £3, it's a lip balm that works well and has a nice flavour. I don't really like the plain lip balms and much prefer the ones that are flavoured and have more of an appeal to them. I have quite a few different lip balms, but find these most handy to carry around in my bag as it is easily applied onto your lips and you don't need to get your finger smeared in it. Although I do also use others, these are ideal to be used when out as I find them quicker to apply and smaller than the little pots to carry around.
The pack of 3 that I bought is called Flava Craze and the Apple and Watermelon flavours have to be my favourite. The packaging of the apple one comes in green and is called Apple Burst. (The watermelon one is in green and red.. and the orange flavoured one is in.. well.. orange) It states on the lip balm that it is a funky flavour for your lips, and i'd agree. The lip balm also states it has SPF 15.
The Apple flavour itself can also be bought seperatly priced at around £1. But if you like different flavours i'd buy Flava Craze for the watermelon lip balm too as it is a nice change, and that one is not sold seperatly (not that I can find anyway).
The lip balm has a white lid which can be quickly and easily pulled off, it reveals the light green colour of the actual lip balm.. being apple flavoured I guess that is to be expected. When applied the lip balm is pretty much like all other lip balms, it feels softer on your lips and does not feel sticky. It really helps dry lips but is great to use daily anyway. To apply it you just pull a bit of the lip balm up through the screw located at the bottom of the tube.
I give this product 5 stars as I love the flavour and think it's better than some of the other plain lip balms, I also like the way it was packaged rather than in a little pot and find it's a great little lip balm that lasts well too.
So its winter time. The time of year my lips decide to crack and irritate me. The time of year I always buy this Chap Stick (about 10 times but unfortunately I'm clumsy and lose it all the time) and every year I am never disappointed with the quality
I normally buy this for £1.12 at the coop and normally there is a 2 for 1 deal. But for those now lucky enough to have a coop new them, if you wish to purchase this product you'll have to buy it for 7p more! Disgraceful!
I've had 3 flavours of this product which are apple, strawberry and plain. Apparently, according to dooyoo there are a few more flavours which ill have to try. Overall I would say that apple is my favourite out of the ones that I have tried. The plain one is to plain for me (no shock there) and the strawberry has a weird mould smell to it in my opinion. The apple flavour smells like apple sweeties and doesn't taste too far of it to if you lick your lips.
***Does it work?***
It works brilliantly. Once applied the soreness from cracked lips is relieved straight away and doesn't take much longer to heal either. It's by far the fastest working chap stick I have tried and for probably the cheapest as well.
For the guys who don't want to appear like they are wearing lip-gloss, this product doesn't make your lips shine and glimmer so no one will know. Although other flavours does tend to make it more obvious, I have found he apple flavour the most discreet.
A must have this winter for all those people who suffer from chapped and cracked lips!
I have always loved ChapSticks and they seem to be the lip balm of my child hood as I can remember collecting all the flavours (though I rarely seemed to have one on me! when I was about four or five.
Now, not having bought one for a good few years, I wandered whether they were still as good as I thought they were, so with the change in weather playing havic with my lips I decided to get one. I normally opt for Carmex as this is a much more heavy duty lip balm and I find it really works well to soften my lips, however, due to the fact Chapstick were on offer I decided to try them again!
I bought mine in Boots and it was around £1.22 for one or 2 for £2, so I decided to buy an apple and a cherry one. Though there are other flavours avaliable such as Strawberry, Mint, Medicated, etc.
The apple one comes in a very vibrant green colour and looks like your average lip balm, with the small little 'click' lid and the twisty thing at the bottom in order to puch the lip balm up.
The lip balm itself smells really very sweet and synthetic smelling apple. It reminds me of sour apple sweets, so if you don't like strong, sweet smelling items then this one is not for you. Although it is not an overpowering scent, it is very strong yet I still find it pleasant. If it did not have that syntheic smell to it I think it would have been much better. The lip balm itself is also quite a bright green colour.
To apply it feels smooth and sleek and does not feel 'greasy' like some other lip balms do. It is also quite light and once on does feel moisturising and your lips immediatley feel less chapped. It comes out a clear colour, which does give it a gloss look once on, so could easily be applied over or under lipstick.
Over a period of a few days I really noticed the difference in my lips, they went from being quite dry, almost on the cracking side, to being very soft, smooth and plump lips all ready and set for the winter. I also found that when I put on this particular chap stick it seemed to be more medicated than the cherry lip balm as when I applied it as when I applied it, it did make my lips tingle every so slightly. The results were not as good as that of Carmex or other more medicated / better beands and where my lips had actually began to crack in the corners it did not do much to sort this out. Nonetheless, it did manage to smooth and soften my lips relativley well so I cannot really fault the lip balm for the price!
I am not too sure whether I would buy this again as although it did seem to work, it did not work as well as some other brands did. My lips also seemed to lose moisture as soon as the lip balm had worn off, whereas other lip balms I have used have been able to lock in moisture. I think these lip balms are far more suited to younger kids due to their bright and funky packaging and the oversweet and slightly synthetic smell. Although I was not dissapointed with the item, I don't think it is one that I will be rushing out to buy again!
Lipbalm is something I really couldnt live without although I dont have a certain brand that I use all the time. I tend to just pick any up as long as they are from a brand I know and they catch my eye. I really only picked this one up because when I last went shopping I had forgotten the other lipbalm I had been using and I really needed to apply some so I ended up buying this "Chapstick Apple Lip Balm" - if all else failed I thought it would smell really nice! I dont suffer from bad chapped lips very often but if there is a sudden change in the weather like there has been recently it definitely affects my lips quite bad so a product like this is essential - but would this one live up to my expectations?
Price: Around 99p
Stockists: Chemists, Amazon, Superdrug, Boots ETC
For: Nourishing chapped, dry lips and making them feel like new again.
Nothing special about the packaging although it is quite eye catching compared to most lipbalms. The balm is contained in a small green tube that has a twist bottom which means you can twist it up when you want to use and and then back down again when your finished - doing that prevents the stick from breaking and also form drying out. Remember to put the lid on though because from experience most lipbalms do dry out very quickly when the lid is left off. The packaging itself is bright green to fit in with the apple theme and even though Im not mad on the colour it is very bright and eye catching - it definitely caught my eye in the shop anyway so I guess it serves it purpose.
The smell of this really is very nice - although it doesnt taste so great! It is very apple like but not like fresh more like the Apple Sourz drink which I absolutely love so I find myself sniffing this in the tube LOL. The smell is gorgeous and you can really smell it when you put it on your lips I have to recommend it on the smell alone. Although if you dont like apple/fruity scents then stay far away from this lipbalm.
Other than that it definitely does the job it is intended for. I have been using this as more of a preventative method rather than a cure but since Ive been using this my lips are looking really good wiht no chapped bits or dry parts in sight. This is quite an intense lip balm even if you think it wont be but it is perfect for everyday wear because its see through on lips and it doesnt feel too thick. I use this as a base for lipsticks and glosses as well as it makes a great primer and stops them from staining my lips which is something that happens to me a LOT!
I definitely recommend this as an everyday lipbalm for your lips. Even if you dont suffer from dry/chapped lips normally using this could prevent that from happening full stop and it makes a great primer for your lips as well! Its cheap and does exactly what it promises so I think everyone should own at least one Chapstick.

Chapstick are such a well known brand. They are makers of lip-balms. They have an original, flavourless balm and many with flavours. One of those is this Apple one.
It comes in a white tube with a light green plastic sort of wrapping. It's pretty simple looking and the colours etc. make it quite obvious that it's probably Apple flavoured, even if you couldn't read the label.
The balm itself applies very smoothly and nicely and doesn't feel greasy or thick once it is on your lips. It has a gorgeous, fresh apple site.
The scent is very cheery and uplifting, but doesn't last very long.
If you happen to lick your lips, it does have a vaguely appley sort of taste which isn't unpleasant or too chemically.
This sinks into your lips almost instantly and does seem to really hydrate, moisturise and smooth them. It doesn't need to be re-applied too often and a tube lasts ages.
This is great for use in the summer because of the lovely, fresh scent but I prefer something more heavy-duty for the winter.
Chapstick Apple Lip Balm
Description: Manufacturer: Chapstick / Type: Lipbalms
Chapstick is one of those brands that seems to have been around forever. There are a range of flavours to choose from as well as the original unflavoured one and they can be found in most supermarkets and chemists.
I tend to find that during winter, I use more products on my lips than at other times of the year as that is when my lips seem to feel more chapped or dry. Having said that, for soft, hydrated and kissable lips all year round, a lip balm is essential and no matter how many different brands I try, I always find myself coming back to Chapstick, simply because it is so reliable and always does exactly what it promises.
You can buy Chapstick for between £1 to £1.25 (depending on where you buy it) per 12g tube. The product lasts really well, and despite being used a few times each day, I still find that it takes ages to finish a tube.
Chapstick tell us the following about this product;
"ChapStick Apple has been uniquely formulated to soothe, soften and nourish lips while preventing moisture evaporation"
Whether you have dry, chapped sore lips or are just using the lip balm to prevent them becoming that way, you are sure to be impressed. If your lips are sore, the product soothes them immediately, leaving them feeling soft and hydrated again. It also helps provide a barrier between your lips and harsh weather, to help prevent them becoming chapped. The apple scent is lovely, it isn't too sweet and even when you lick your lips, tastes good too.
I swear by this stuff, yes there are loads of posher and more expensive brands on the market, but this one is consistently good, and always leaves my lips feeling in tip top condition. It is cheap and cheerful and I love all of the flavours, so often have several tubes in different varieties. It also provides excellent value for money because it lasts so well.
If you haven't tried this product yet then you really have no excuse, I recommend having some in every bag and pocket, to help your lips remain kissably soft and moisturised. There are flavours to suit all tastes and for the price, you can afford to try them all!
Helps prevent and temporarily protects chafed, chapped, cracked, or windburned lips Helps prevent sunburn Higher SPF gives more sunburn protection
