Another great product by Bourjois and until I find a better mascara, I will carry on using this!

Bourjois Clubbing Mascara is another one of those secret products I have been using for as long as I can remember! I am a sucker for trying out new products, but once I find one I like, it is hard to persuade myself to try a new product, which is why I am probably still using this product years later! My preference is a waterproof based mascara as I like the comfort in knowing that if it wont budge should it be a hot day, something irritating my eye etc and I have to say, this mascara does what it says! The brush is quite a thick, bushy brush which gives excellent, thick, dark coverage over lashes. The only drawback for some would be that it goes on too heavy and can become clumpy after being used for a while, which many users will not appreciate. I also find that after a few weeks use, the mascara tends to get clogged at the top of the bottle and dries, making it hard to tighten the lid on to stop the mascara from drying out. However, I find that it gives a very dark, thick eyelash coverage and it lasts all night. I would recommend using Johnson's Face Wipes to remove this mascara at the end of the day, as I find other products struggle to remove every trace. That's how good it is! So, if you are looking for a new mascara, why not give this one ago? If you don't fancy the waterproof version, you could always try the regular! It comes in black or brown, so suits all hair and skin tones. The cost of this is approximately £8.00 and is available from all major high street shops - Boots, Superdrug etc.

an ok mascara from Bourjois but not one I would recommend

I was in Superdrug a couple of days ago when I was lured to the makeup counters as there was an offer on 3 for 2 across all the cosmetic ranges. Not being able to turn down an opportunity to save some money I of course wandered through to see what sounded nice! I got some lipgloss, my usual GOSH BB Cream and this mascara by bourjois as my old one was in need of replacing! It came already wrapped in plastic, but it looked really exciting as the tube is designed with bright metallic of an eye with luscious, long looking lashes. It comes in four shades: Ultra Black, Black, Blue and Brown and I bought black which costs £7.99. When as I got home I wanted to try it out asap (as I usually do) so opened it up. I was actually a bit surprised at the brush as it is a flat brush on one side, and the other half has a thick bristly brush and comes out so covered in mascara product it is a bit too much and I had to try and wipe some off on the rim of the mascara tube. The mascara itself isn't anything fantastic, I have quite short but curly lashes so they really do need some help to give me anything to flutter and this mascara really does take some work to have any effect. It is a bit clumpy, and fortunately I have an spare, plain brush used for lashes that I have to use to comb through my lashes. The mascara is advertised as "ultra volumising" but unfortunately it doesn't really give me that look as much as I'd like it to! (I'm sure the only answer is eyelash extensions!) It's also advertised as "100% tear and sweat proof for a night out" and although I am yet to wear it on a night out, I did wear it the last couple days to work and it did last a long time and was water proof so the longevity is good just the quality of the mascara and the accompanying brush is just a tad disappointing. Overall its an ok mascara but not the best. I paid a price in the middle road of the market price bracket I guess - nothing expensive and name brand but nothing completely budget so I guess that's the quality I got. I am not too sure I would recommend it as I definitely wouldn't buy it again but I'd give it a decent 3 stars.

Overall a fantastic mascara which I highly recommend!

If you are as useless as me at putting fake eyelashes on, and I am really bad, then look no further your problems are solved. This is the next best thing to fake eye lashes. It is a definite must have for party-goers who want lovely, chunky, bold, dramatic eye lashes. I stumbled across this little miracle worker after failing, a number of times, to apply fake lashes. I was amazed to actually find a mascara that does what it says on the tin (tube). The physical tube is jet black with silver graphics and is quite bulky - very cosmetically please to the eye. The brush itself is rather bulky and holds a lot of mascara. I personally use the black colour and once it is applied to the eye lashes it is really jet black. You need to apply a couple of strokes to the eye lashes to get the desired look. I personally save this mascara for when I am going out for a night on the tiles and use a different mascara for day time, as I fine it to be a bit too bold for a 'day time' look. Overall I really love this mascara and I really recommend anyone to give it a go, you won't be disappointed. The only real downside to this mascara is if you layer it on to thick than it can look clumpy. Also trying to get it off with a wipe is a mission on its own, I think I have it all off and then look like a panda the following morning. The things we do for beauty?!

Fabulous mascara, one of the best i've ever used!

I like to consider myself adventurous when it comes to make up because i like to hunt a bargain and i'm always searching for something better, but for me this is the old faithful - like an old friend you can always turn to in times of need! The brush is very big which means you can apply it faster and give more lift to your lashes from the base. I personally like the 'absolute black' shade, it gives a very dark and matte black which looks great! Its smudge-free and very long lasting, even though i prefer not to use waterproof eye make up it still stands strong against the tear test! It applies very easily because of the straight forward handle and thick brush but because of the straight edges of the brush it doesn't give as much curve to your lashes as a spoon brush might. I recommend using eyelash curlers before application to give yourself the maximum volume and really open up those lovely eyes! It can be hardwork taking it off, however. Its more of an eye make up remover job than just water, even without the waterproof version.

        Advantages

        Disadvantages

        5/5

My local Superdrug had the whole range of Bourjois cosmetics on offer earlier in the year and I took the oppurtunity to try out a few products that I wasn't sure if I'd like and wouldn't of bought at full price. One of the items that I purchased was the 'volume clubbing' mascara which appealed to me because I assumed, from the name, that it would be very volumising as well as waterproof/smudge proof. I also quite liked the mascara tube design as it is a nice change from a plain black mascara tube. Bourjois market this as being tear and sweat proof and say that it is perfect for clubbers. The mascara retails at around £8.00 per 11ml tube, which is a reasonable price in my opinion and after having tried it and loving it, I would definitely pay full price for it. I managed to get mine for around the £5.00 mark which I'm pleased with but the full retail price is very affordable and not overpriced. The mascara is available in three different colours - blue, black and ultra black. I opted for ultra black and as I have dark hair and lashes the lack of lighter colour options wasn't an issue for me, however it may be for people with light hair and lashes. The mascara comes in quite a funky tube - it's the average mascara tube shape and quite chunky while still being compact enough to easily fit in my make-up bag without taking up too much room and it could easily fit into my clutch bag if I needed to take it out with me for top-ups. The branding is really eye catching - it has a picture on the front of an eye with long lashes and the product name, shade name and brand name are written in white and golden writing. The words dramatic, intense, ultra resistant and volume are written near the bottom. The lid screws off like any other mascara and it has the wand and brush attatched to it. The brush is a good length and not too chunky/bulky but not so compact that it is fiddly to use. The brush is described as Bourjois as being a double sided volumising brush but it isn't particularly any different to a majority of my other mascara brushes. The bristles are very close together and quite spindly which I wasn't keen on and I thought that it'd be hard to seperate my lashes without them clumping due to the brush design but it's actually great - with just one application my lashes are seperated and noticeabley longer without looking like spider legs. The mascara makes a noticeable difference with just one coat and I find the finish it gives my lashes really impressive - they're left incredibly well defined and noticeably longer and thicker. It also lifts my lashes giving my eyes that 'wide awake' look. The mascara is easily buildable but it can start to clump after a few coats. I find that one coat is perfect for day time wear with relatively minimalistic make-up and three-four coats is great for nights out when I want a more dramatic look. On the couple of ocassions that I have applied too many coats the mascara started to flake soon after I'd applied it but as long as I don't over do it it's fine and very impressive. The formula is well pigmented and just the right consistency - it doesn't feel heavy on my lashes and it has never irritated my eyes. It lives up to the claim of being tear and sweat proof and it doesn't budge. I'd say it lasts on average for a good 8hrs and unlike a lot of other waterproof mascaras it isn't too much of a pain to remove. Overall I highly recommend this mascara and I give it five out of five stars.

          Advantages

          Disadvantages

a reasonably priced mascara that doesn't have ridiculous claims.

Like many of us I have undoubtedly gone through a huge handful of brands of mascara to find the perfect one ever since I started using make-up. From rimmel to maxfactor, to collection 2000 and miss sporty - you name it I've tried it and I've even succumbed to their apparent full volume claims on occasion. After eventually learning what type of brush and thickness of the mascara suits my lashes, I finally came to the conclusion that a thicker and larger brush with a lot of long bristles and medium viscosity mascara was the right kind for me. I have found a selection of mascaras that match this description and of course all vary in price; whether it's ridiculously over the top or unbelievably cheap, but sometimes they aren't quite what I'm looking for to perfect my look and when I can actually afford some great mascara my first option is always bourjois volume clubbing mascara in absolute black. The mascara is available in four colours: black, absolute black, brown and turquoise. I haven't actually used the brown or turquoise but I have taken a look at the testers in stores and neither colour are to my fancy. The original black is just a basic shade, not too dark but enough to make them stand out, almost charcoal like, whereas the one I use: absolute black is much darker and gives an intense 'stand out' effect and for me I feel as though it actually makes my lashes appear thicker and fuller. The brush is quite fat and features a lot of bristles to ensure maximum volume, perhaps not ideal for those with short or sparse lashes (particularly the lower lashes) as it may have a higher chance of clumping or blotting on your lash line and eye lid during application. The mascara claims to have a 'vinyl mix' which gives it higher resistance against residue and perspiration and therefore lasts much longer, I can confirm that for me this has been true as my lashes always look as good as they did in the morning when I first applied the mascara. I've found that it really only requires one coat to give a nice even and full effect, but if you like very dramatic lashes like me then it really doesn't hurt adding a second layer - though I would not recommend adding any more than this otherwise you'll have clumpy and clogged up lashes that resemble the likes of individuals from snog marry avoid. The mascara is 11ml and cost me £7.99 from superdrug, but it can also be bought in other stores that supply bourjois makeup (so far I am only aware of boots that sell it too) Normally I pay around £3 for a mascara but I find myself going through them twice as fast as I would with this mascara, so really I feel as though £7.99 is actually a reasonable price that is worth paying.

A good mascara that is best for a night time look

I love my make up so I was over the moon when I received a gift bag off my friend which contained some lovely bourjois make up items. I have tried bourjois items before and I have been pleased with them however they can be a bit pricy depending where you shop and there are brands such as rimmel who are the same if not better for foundations and other various products. There are however some lovely bourjois products available and since I had ran out of mascara I was lucky to get this. The product comes in a chunky 11ml tube that is a shiny black colour and displays the information in a shiny gold with a picture of an eye on the front. This mascara is from the volume clubbing collection and the colour I have was ultimate black. The design of the mascara is very nice and certainly attractive from a buyer's point of view. I did a little research to find out that this product would cost you £7.99 and it can be purchased from boots and other stores. The mascara has a double sided volumising brush and contains a vinyl formula of intense black pigments to create a dark and thick coating on the lashes. The brush looks the same as any other to me to be completely honest I can't see anything I haven't seen before. The tube advises that this product creates a dramatic look with intense volume that is ultra-resistant. The first thing I like about this mascara is the fact that it is versatile, by day you apply one coat and the lashes are fully covered, appear longer and thicker and look fuller. On a night time you can load up the coats and the mascara creates a full coverage coating each last to lengthen and fill them out creating the look of a false lash effect. I love the mascara for the reasons I have gave above however it does have some negatives too. Firstly the brush holds a lot of mascara and this can sometimes get too wet that it is hard to apply without getting it on the eye lids too. Secondly when you apply a lot of this mascara it seems heavy and you can feel a slight clumping effect with a few lashes getting stuck together. This mascara is true to what it says on the tube as it certainly is highly resistant and it does last all day without any slipping to the under eye area. Overall I think this is a good mascara that has especially been formulated to create a false lash effect when heavily applied for a night out.

Not for me but if you have long lashes already you may like it.

I bought this mascara online because it was a bargain (there may be a theme appearing in my reviews!). I've used it for both everyday use and evening wear - my approach to mascara is just to apply more in the evenings rather than have a separate one. I've got the brown version as I'm very fair. When I first pulled the wand out of the mascara I was surprised at how clumsy looking it is and how much mascara is visibly clumped on it. Applying it, I was still of the opinion that the wand is clumsy - it's quite big and doesn't curve so it's difficult to get into the corners of your eyes without painting it all around your eyes. Because there was so much on the wand it left clumps of mascara on my lashes. I found that it makes my lashes look fuller but not longer and I tend to need the latter really. The mascara does seem to have staying power and there's no problem in that area, I'm just not that impressed with the effect.

            Advantages

            Disadvantages

Very disapointing from Bourjois, won't be repurchasing.

I am a huge fan of all the Bourjois foundations so when I come across a 3 for 2 offer in Boots I jumped at the chance to try out their mascara. ---Product Description---- The boots website describes the product as 'Be ready to party all night long with the ultra resistant formula that provides a tear and sweat proof result.' ---Availability and Price--- I purchased the product in Boots to collect some points, but it is easily available in lots of different chemists. In Boots it costs £7.99 full price, but there are always 3 for 2 offers on which means you can get a little more for your money! When I purchased the mascara it was available in absolute black and ultra black. I have no idea if there is any actual difference between the two, but I did a quick 'eenie, meenie, minie, mo' and chose the ultra black. ---Packaging--- To be honest I was a little disappointed with the packaging as I thought it looked a bit cheap. My friend actually asked if I was using a Collection 2000 mascara when I applied it in her house! There is absoloutly nothing wrong with the pakaging in terms of quality; it is sturdy and the wand tightens firmly meaning air won't get into the product and dry out. However, as I think of Bourjois as being a more expensive 'drug store' brand I felt it could have looked a little more sleek. ---Product--- The wand is fairly large, so not very good for those of you who like the smaller or 'comb' like mascara wands. It is also probably not very good from those who have short lashes as you will end up with smudges quite easily. When I first removed the wand from the tube I noticed that the bristles were clumped together with the product, and when I tried to remove some on the edge of the tube it seemed to get worse. ---Application--- The application is, unfortunately, exactly the same; Clumpy with a caplital C! No matter how many times I seem to wipe the wand on tissue paper or the edge of the mascara tube, my lashes just seem to clump together. And I'm not talking about a few clumps, the first time I used this mascara was on a night out (rookie mistake) and I ended up with the outer one half of one set of lashes completely stuck together....this was followed by frantic combing with an old wand to try and distribute the clumo! After reading other reviews I am bewildered by my experience as others seem to rave about it, but try as I like I can't seem to get any effective results. I hoped that after using it a few times I would see an improvement, and I always feel that a little air needs to get into the product sometimes to make it work properly. However, this is not the case with this mascara. The only positive thing I can add is that it does lengthen really well, but as the lashes are not seperated I just look as if I have spiders lashes. Also, it is very long lasting which is good and I often have to use a cleansing water before my normal cleanser to remove it properly. ---Opinion--- I very rarely find a product which I want to throw away, but I am disappointed to say that this is one. I am a huge fan of the Bourjois foundations and blushers, and I would like to stress I am not a negative person when it comes to reviewing products. However, I am struggling to find anything postive to say about this mascara. In order to use it up I firstly wipe all the excess product off on a tissue then apply a fine layer to wear to work during the day. As I wear glasses to work I don't worry too much about eye make up so I find this ok. Unfortunately, I can't recommend it and definately won't be repurchasing.

            Advantages

            Disadvantages

            Just doesn't last long enough.

I love the brand Bourjois because it offers quality at affordable prices whilst also managing to look stylish and plush. I first used this mascara about 5 years ago now and at the time was really excited to try a new Bourjois mascara as I'd loved previous ones I had owned. I generally think the brand are really good at creating product with mass market appeal that are still great quality. This mascara comes in a wide barrelled tube. I purchased the black shade (although there are others available) so the tube is black and silver. The design is quite striking, an almost cartoon-esque face on the front, most of what you can see is a lovely open eye with long, thick lashes. The design is not typically Bourjois but obviously aiming it at 'clubbers' they've gone for a trendy look with the tube. I don't display my mascaras so for me as long as the tube is functional it doesn't matter what it looks like, but if you were bothered the design of this isn't exactly expensive looking and perhaps a little too youthful too. That said, the quality of the tube and brush are great. The brush is a wide bristle brush which acquires an even coating of mascara from the tube to dispense onto your lashes. I think the tube is easy to use, it has a twist top that works smoothly and I have never found any problems with it. The product itself is great...to begin with. The mascara is smooth and fluid, it applies easily and does not clump or become too sticky. Due to the design of the brush you do get both added volume and length to your lashes, although I would be careful because if you apply too many coats your lashes become spidery (although I find that with almost all mascaras). The only issue I had with this mascara was the amount of time it lasted. I found I could use it happily for a month or two (at the most) before it became sticky and unusable because of the excessive clumping. This is really disappointing for me because my mascaras tend to last double this - I use several at one time so they have a slightly longer life expectancy. You can get this product for anything between £5-£8 and obviously a little cheaper if you buy online. I think this is a reasonable price but given the amount of time it lasts I can't say I'll be buying it again.

              Advantages

              Disadvantages

              Good for partying!!

Today I will be reviewing one of my most recent beauty purchases. Being 'tight', I don't really like to spend too much on make-up, especially as I get through so much of it. I usually use a cheap Miss Sporty mascara, however when I recently saw that there was an offer on Bourjois Paris make-up (a brand I had never took much notice of before), I decided to buy a mascara - my friend also wanted to buy one and I think the offer was something like 'Buy 2, get the 3rd free' and so we split the cost. This mascara is currently priced at £9.49 from Boots which I think is good value for money. To look at the mascara is quite attractive, consisting of a chunky black tube with a plastic film around it which is quite 'busy' with a 'clubby/night out' theme to it. I have to say it does look a bit cheap compared to Bourjois Paris' more glamorous looking mascaras. Applying the mascara is very easy; just like any other mascara. Simply pull the wand out of the 'tube' and coat your eye lashes. I love how the brush is quite chunky as it means that because the brush can hold a lot of mascara (as opposed to a smaller brush) it means that it doesn't take to much time to apply it. I love how the mascara works really quickly. After a couple of 'coats' I could see a huge difference. The mascara really opened up my eyes and give me a 'big-eye-look'; a look I always try to get (a bit like bambi eyes). It also lengthens my eyelashes and makes them look really long. I have found in the past that because I have sensitive skin and eyes, some mascaras, especially waterproof mascaras really affect my eyes. However, I was pleasantly surprised to discover that my eyes were ok and didn't suffer at the hands of this mascara. The mascara is waterproof - I work in a busy restaurant and so I hate it when my eye make up 'smudges', however, this mascara didn't budge and so top marks from me! I didn't find the mascara to be too difficult to get off - I normally use a wet flannel to wash my face and take my make up off (I don't use wipes or 'make up remover' as it makes my skin and eyes sore). So for me it was good that the mascara came off easily as there is nothing I hate more than coming in from a night out and trying to take stubborn mascara off. In terms of value for money, I think that you do get a high quality product for your money, which is good. I would definitely recommend this mascara! Thanks for reading! Disadvantages

              luscious length and dramatic volume

I can honestly say I have never found a mascara to rival this one! Definitely a massive fan and I always recommend it to friends. I can't tell the difference between the ultra black and the absolute black so my review encompasses them both! With a nice thick consistency, this mascara coats eyelashes quickly and easily, creating plenty of volume. I certainly don't use it sparingly and it always lasts me a long time, definitely value for money in my eyes. BOURJOIS VOLUME CLUBBING - ULTRA BLACK/ABSOLUTE BLACK *Volume 5/5 Whilst other mascaras deliver on length, this mascara excels on the volume front without sacrificing length, making eyelashes look thick and dark. Sometimes you have to take a few minutes to ensure your eyelashes are separated as they can stick together whilst applying the mascara, however sparing a few extra minutes is no sacrifice for thick luscious lashes! *Length 5/5 Long eyelashes are a must for me and this mascara always delivers. I have often been told how 'lovely and long' my eyelashes look and I think that is a recommendation in itself! *Durability 5/5 Long lasting, doesn't smudge, doesn't flake. Applying a single layer of mascara gives a natural bambi-eyes look, or apply multiple layers for a dramatic evening style. A firm favourite, if anyone thinks they know a mascara to beat this one then please do let me know!

              Advantages

              Disadvantages

Great volume for a low price

I have naturally long eyelashes, so any mascara I buy needs to deliver more on volumising than on lengthening effect. I bought this product for the "volume" in the name. The mascara is supposedly great for "clubbing" as it is very waterproof and resistant to smudging. - Price and Packaging - The mascara contains 11ml of product and retails at an RRP of £7.99, but because this is quite an old product now you can often find it for a lot less either online or in discount shops. The packaging is a chunky tube which varies in colour depending on the colour of the mascara itself, with gold and silver lettering. The tube is thicker and more than most other mascaras, which could be a problem if like me you like to take your make-up out with you in your handbag, as it's chunky and takes up more room. - Application and wear - For the first few uses the mascara is quite wet, but it does thicken up a bit after a couple of weeks, making it less likely to run and smudge when you're applying it. The brush is medium sized with short, dense bristles and comes out coated with a lot of product. As such, this mascara has a tendency to clump easily, so due care needs to be taken when applying it. Two coats gives a lovely thick, volumised look to your eyelashes. The look isn't subtle, and can be built up for really dramatic lashes with a few coats. I have the mascara in "Ultra Black", and it is a really dark black mascara, highly pigmented. The mascara lives up to the waterproof claims, it doesn't budge even if you cry, or do loads of exercise (or dancing in a club) with it on. The only problem is because of this it's very difficult to remove at night. It takes at least two tries with eye make-up remover to get rid of. - Conclusion - If you want dramatic, volumised lashes and a mascara that won't budge one bit then this is for you. If you can't deal with the possibility of clumped lashes or taking a while to remove it, stay away.

              Advantages

              Disadvantages

A mascara to add volume and definition but goes clumpy too quickly

I have quite small, thin eye lashes and found this mascara did improve the appearance. It made my lashes look thicker, and more voluminous and I was quite impressed with the effect. It costs around £8 from Boots, but is sometimes on offer or on 3 for 2. I have tried it in Ultra Black and Absolute Black and I haven't noticed much difference between the two. Although I like the effect of the mascara it doesn't last very long. After a few uses it can get a bit clumpy where the mascara all sticks to the brush. This makes it hard to apply and to separate your lashes so you really need to buy a new one to get the effect. This is quite disappointing as you would expect it to last longer, and not have to buy more. As for the mascara lasting, I have found it does last on your eyes but no more than other mascaras I have tried. I would definitely give this mascara a try to give you lashes volume and to add definition. However, be warned about how the brush can go clumpy after a while and hard to apply to your lashes for this effect.

              Advantages

              Disadvantages

Does what it says, but with a few downsides

I bought this Bourjois mascara as I love thickening formulas to make my lashes look more luscious! I got it for around £8 in Boots, but sometimes they do promotions with money off etc. The packaging is great, a large, cylindrical tube that's black and gold (the Ultra Black is anyway), making it look very glamorous. You feel like clubbing just from seeing the packaging! The mascara wand itself is quite chunky and rectangular, rather than being the traditional cylinder shape. There are equal numbers of bristles on either side, which means there's no specific side of the wand to use. This means you can coat lashes with a thick, even coating - perfect for thickening! The problem with this mascara is that it does tend to clump because of its thickening properties, leaving the 'spider lashes' issue - not a great look. Also, it can start flaking away, because of the clumpiness, especially if you rub your eyes. I don't think that would look great when you're clubbing! Overall I think it's a great product for thickening, however if you use too much or have a little too much excess on the brush, you can get very clumpy lashes as a result!
