Girl Meets Pearl is a liquid highlighter from Benefit Cosmetics. I received a 7.5ml sample tube of it in a gift set, however you can buy it in a larger version for around £25 that comes in a twist tube. The packaging is gorgeous. It's the usual quirky packaging of Benefit Cosmetics and it draws you into the product. I found my sample tube easy to use as it was just a screw on cap. I just had to remove the foil cover and I was ready to go. I have used this highlighter in a number of different ways so I would say that it is a versatile product.
I have used the product before mixed with my moisturiser. I simply applied a dab of this onto the back of my hand and mixed it with a good dollop of moisturiser. The two combined left my skin looking incredibly healthy with a lovely soft glow. Girl Meets Pearl is great for adding a subtle glow to the skin without looking too ghostly, making you look pale. Instead, it just illuminates the skin whilst focusing on any dull areas. It definitely makes my skin look more awake which is great after a night out when tiredness shows on your skin. I have also patted it onto bare skin before and that worked really well too!
I also use it over foundation, dotting it onto my cheekbones and brow bones. It glides well over foundation without caking make up and it lasts all day, which I would expect for the price! It highlights the skin well and helps to brighten my eyes when applied to my brow bone.
Girl Meets Pearls also smells nice, which is a nice addition to the product. It has never caused me to experience any skin irritation either and it is easy to remove at the end of the day as it just washes straight off. It doesn't leave any sticky residue on the skin like some primers/ highlighters can.
Like another reviewer said, it isn't essential but it is a nice addition to your make up collection and the packaging is so cute. I wouldn't wear it everyday but for special occasions or days out I would make an effort to dab some of it on!
A nice product with nice packaging.
I received Girl Meets Pearl as a gift from a friend. This is a highlighter that illuminates and adds glow to the face. I really liked the cute and pretty design, as well as how easy it is to use the tube that the product comes in. You twist the bottom of the tube and the product comes out in tiny "pearl'' drops from small holes at the top of the tube. You can apply it with your fingertips or glide the stick directly over your face and then blend the product with your fingers. The ease with which it applies was a definite benefit (no pun intended :) ) for me, as there is no need to have a brush/sponge, which I always lose. However, a little disappointingly, sometimes too much product comes out when you slide your finger over the top of the holes, so it tends to be wasted.
The product blends easily and does not look too bright or unnatural on my face. You can also vary the amount of shimmer you want- you can apply just one layer or several coats, and even with many layers it doesn't look oily or cakey. It is very light, does not block pores, and stays put for long. I use it both over my makeup base and without make up. I use it to highlight my cheekbones, under the brow, as well as on the cupid's bow to make lips look fuller. The texture is a bit powdery once on the face with very subtle glitter/shimmer. It does add a pretty glow and makes my face look fresher. Do note though that the product's shade is pinky gold, so it may not be suited for all skin tones and complexions. For example, I find that cold blue-y and silvery highlighters suit my colour-type (pale, blonde, blue eyes) better than gold, warm colours.
Overall, a nice foolproof :) highlighter for those who like to add a little extra je ne sais quoi to their makeup routine ;). I do not consider this product a necessity and I think you can easily substitute it with gold shimmer eye shadow or similar. It is also quite pricey at around 24 pounds, so maybe worth looking at ebay or other resellers.
I always find benefit cosmetics to look vibrant and they really stand out so girl meets pearl was no different to the rest of their products so i thought i need to try it. I purchased a travel size bottle which still cost me more than what it needed too but i purchased anyway.
When i opened it and put a little on my fingers it was this lovely pinky colour and it does say its a hightlighter so its best used for the cheeks, so as i applied it in onto my cheeks (with no other makeup on) it just glided on really well and it actually highlighted my skin. I also tried it with foundation on first and then put on over the top and noticed it stood out a lot more so i was really impressed it just gives your cheeks a highlighted glimmer which i love!! The highlighter also stays on all day and doesnt crease up unlike other makeup.
This product is well worth a try but the disadvantge is that it comes at a price so maybe ask for it as a present.
Girl Meets Pearl certainly gives a lovely pearly sheen to the complexion, but I found it wasn't long before I ran out. The Benefit range, while quirky and pretty, is pricey overall (I paid £24.50 for 120ml), so if you are watching your pennies and want to treat yourself to a product from Benefit once in a blue moon, maybe don't invest in Girl Meets Pearl as it will leave you wanting more!
You can wear this product over make up or alone, but I found that it was fine alone for everyday wear. It gives your face a dewy, healthy look and as an added bonus it smells great, like most Benefit products. It was easy to apply but I did find a lot of the pearly residue was left on my hands afterwards rather than the product just rubbing into the skin like moisturiser. I also found that you can't just rub Girl Meets Pearl into your face without looking in the mirror as you would with moisturiser as it can look slightly patchy if not rubbed in properly. This probably goes unnoticed by other people but I caught it in the mirror at work after a very rushed morning!
The product is not greasy, luckily for me as I have oily skin! I am also very pale, so I can be fussy about products being too obvious/dark on my skin, but this gives a pearly sheen and no more, so if that's all you're looking for it's perfect! It really helped to perk up my dull complexion, and is complemented with Benefit Dandelion (if you're treating yourself twice!).
I used a sample of this that was 7.5ml in size.
The full sized tube costs over £20, which I think is a little steep. It is a good product though.
The product is a face primer that can be worn alone or under make-up. I apply a light coating of moisturiser first, wait a few minutes for it to dry and then I apply a dot of this over the top. You don't need a lot of this to cover your face, especially if you use it over moisturiser like I do. The primer is easy to apply and it is easy to work with. I have also used this alone (without any moisturiser) but I get a better effect if I use it over moisturiser. My make-up seems to last even longer that way.
After applying the primer I apply my make-up over the top. This primer really helps my make-up to last longer without causing a caking effect. My make-up lasts pretty much ALL day with this primer, as opposed to around six hours without it. Even under the bright lights at work my foundation stays put without creasing and/ or flaking. Plus the primer smells nice and the scent seems to linger on my facial skin after use.
It is also easy to remove at the end of the day. I usually remove this product with Ultrabland from Lush but you can remove it with a simple make-up wipe too.
This product doesn't irritate the skin and it leaves no residue behind either. Perfect!
After running out of my treasured Porefessional, I went to Debenhams to purchase my next tube and found a Benefit set containing Porefessional and extra bits for the same price. One of these extra bits was in fact, Girl Meets Pearl. I prefer a more matte complexion so I wouldn't have ever purchased this otherwise, but I'm not one to knock a gift horse in the mouth so I gave it a try.
What does it do?
Girl Meets Pearl is a product which has been created in order to brighten the complexion of all who wears it. It claims that it will give you a dewy glow and a healthy illuminated face to leave you looking fresh faced and ready to go.
How do you use the product?
The product can be used in two different ways. It can be used on bare skin for a healthy sheen or it can be patted over the top of your finished makeup.
Packaging and Price
The full sized bottle comes in a gorgeous metallic pink tube and you twist the bottom to move the product up. As mine came as part of a set, mine is packaged in a toothpaste like tube with a black screw top lid. The tube is decorated with a city background and covered with stars.
Mine is a 5ml tube and alongside the Erase Paste and Porefessional, it costs £23 from Debenhams. The full sized 12ml bottle will cost you around £24. It can be bought from any store which has a Benefit counter and also from a variety of online websites.
Appearance and Aroma
The product is largely without a scent although you can smell a little fruitiness if you sniff really hard and go really close but it's barely noticeable even then. The colour of the product is peachy pink and it has a slight golden shimmer.
The first problem that I had was using this over the entire face. I don't like my skin to look shiny because my skin is very oily but I do like to highlight certain parts of my face. I never applied it all over again.
The second problem was that it rubbed off some of my finished make up because it is quite liquidy and it made me look patchy. I had to start all over again and I was late for a night out!! Not a happy chappy! The trick is to dab the product onto the skin instead of rubbing it in. The application is fine when it is applied in this way.
Wearing this alone isn't an option for me as I wouldn't step foot out of the house without wearing make up so when I use it and there's no point wearing it under make up as it just gets covered up. So when I do wear it, then it is always on top of makeup.
The product has the same sort of consistency as a foundation and it is easy to apply to the skin. It glides onto the face and doesn't pull the skin or dry out. I think the full sized product applies the product with a dabbing effect so I think that would be so much easier than trying to use my tube.
I apply the product to my cheekbones, the bridge of my nose and below the eyebrow. When using as a highlighter, it makes your skin look gorgeous and healthy. It isn't an obvious piece of make up on the skin but it works in a way which gives you a natural beauty. The sheen is slightly golden so I think it will look lovely on a summer's day.
I am pale and the colour suits me. The product also suits my friend's complexion and she is much darker so it should make lots of people happy. I think it only comes in one shade. The results are long lasting and reapplication is unnecessary.
All in all, this is a lovely quick fix make up product that, when used correctly, looks really nice and natural on the face. I use it as a highlighting product and I am also a fan of Benefits Moonbeam which serves the same purpose. I think I'll stick with Moonbeam but this will happily get used up.
I actually have this in a smaller size as part of a kit, but full price this product is around £24.50 which is quite steep.
Girl meets pearl is described as "liquid pearl for the face" and is a pink liquid type product that you pat over the top of your foundation. I like to pat mine around my cheeks and just rub it in until it is fully incorporated. In the light you can see the shiney pearly effect and i'd also add that this product smells beautiful - like raspberries.
I don't feel however that this products pearly-ness lasts very long, just a few hours and therefore for me this isn't a wear all day product - probably better for a night time look.
If you are going to spend £24.50 on a product unless you have money to throw away, it needs to be good and necessary! This for me is where Girl meets pearl falls down a little. By her own admission the Benefit consultant I spoke to said that it was a nice product but was really a luxury product. I'd tend to agree. It is lovely, it does work but for me it's a nice to have and not really a necessity. Sure it's nice to have a pearly effect to your makeup, but I don't think that it's worth it at this price.
I'm going to score this product 4 out of 5 because it is nice, but personally I wouldn't re-purchase due to the price and the fact that I don't use this as part of an everyday makeup routine.
I love Benefit make up and brought this without reading any reviews as I trust in their Brand.
Girl Meets Pearl is a primer with a difference, it can be worn over make up too! It provides a glow and shimmer which is to die for.
The Ford twins started creating make up in the 70s. after a career in modelling and as a make up artistry. Other family members joined the company years later and created a high energy brand. Benefit make up is unique compared to its competitors and draws in the customer due to its quirky packaging. Different products each have their own individual humorous design which makes the product stand out.
A primer which can be worn on it's own or mixed with your moisturize or foundation to provide an over all coverage with a smooth and shimmery finish.
Usually I put a bit 2 clicks wroth on my finger and tap it along my cheekbones. I then blend and tap very lightly upwards. I repeat the process and apply it on my jaw line and blend it upwards so it would meet with the cheekbones.
You can also just apply it on the highlight zones, cheekbones, brow line, this will give a sun kissed holiday look. Be ware this product shouldn't replace a bronzer on the cheeks as it doesn't add that much colour.
You can wear this on it's own, or mix it with your daily moisturiser to allow a hint of golden shimmer to your skin. A great look for the summer.
Also be worn on top of make up to add the extra shimmer and shine to your make up for a glitzy night out. You can also add it to your foundation for an over all smooth shimmery look.
This is an excellent product. I don't usually wear primer on my fact as I think it's too much product on my face, however after I purchased this product just to see what its like as I love Benefit make up. I will never go back.
I like the fact this is easy to use, I can just pat it on my skin and in a few seconds I have holiday skin. It also add a layer of glitz to normal make up if I wear it on top of my foundation. Pay for one item but can wear it many ways.

I am a HUGE fan of Benefit make up. It may be a bit heavy on the bank account, but with make up, money buys quality and long lasting products.
I have tried lots of different shimmer sticks, skin illuminators and primers, however either they have been too shimmery and my face has resembles a disco stick, or they have lasted just a few hours.
I actually had a Benefit make over in Debenhams one Sunday as I was fed up with my old products I was using and wanted a new look at what the products world has to offer. These make overs are free, so it's well worth enquiring. The make up artist actually used Girl Meets Pearl over the top of other Benefit make up. It gave my skin a lovely, dewy look about it, and added the faintest hint of shimmer.
I loved it so much, I bought it for about £15.00.
It is very easy to use; you dispense the liquid by using a twisty stick at the bottom of the tube. The product is a pink liquid; but don't be put off, it doesn't come out pink on your skin! I use Girl Meets Pearl like a foundation and primer in one for a luminous glow. I have used it mixed with foundation when I have been to social events and parties. It mixes well with other products. I apply it with a slightly damp make up sponge, but you can apply it with your fingers if need be.
I love the shimmer that this product gives your skin. It doesn't feel greasy or sticky, it glides on to your skin like silk. It lasts all day too, which is such a great bonus.
I bought Girl Meets Pearl over a year ago, and it's still going! I don't know how much is left, but I believe it's still quite a bit.
A true winner in my eyes, and another fabulous product from Benefit :)
Benefit Girl Meets Pearl is a face primer, this can be worn over your make up or on it's own without any, this is supposed to illuminate your face a little bit like bronzer, you just twist it a few times for a little bit and pat on your skin where you want it, mainly your cheeks to high light them. Luckily I have a friend who works at the benefit counter in house of frasher and she got me a few samples of this for me to try out because I wasn't sure how to apply this or how much to look good.
You can buy this for £24 from boots and house of frasher, they won't be on the shelves but on the specific make up counters for anyone who doesn't know, you can also buy this online at boots and other websites, ebay is a good place to scout round for brand new, unsure make up for even cheaper which is what I do when I want to try something new like this.
The product is a pale pink and very light, it also has a lot of shimmer to it, I'm not sure if it's glitter in it or not but it definitely has a shine to it, also the product itself is quite sticky and stringy between your fingers, I thought this was going to be a big problem when apply to my face over make up as I thought it would just make my foundation go a little weird and make me look like I have dry skin, But I tested this on make up and not.
On top of my make up, I applied a little above and where you apply blusher and again where you put bronzer anyway, I watched this from a you tube video so I didn't get it wrong and have to start again, I did it a little to much on my cheeks the first time, and I didn't realise you didn't need as much as I put on as I put it on quite thick, so when using this for the first time, only use tiny bits at a time to get it nice and thin on your face. My face did look lovely and fresher with a pretty colour, I didn't feel the need to put blusher or bronzer on after this and it worked really well and I didn't need to. I also put this on without make up, I moisturised first and then applied to the same places again, I have a really pale complexion and this really livened this up a little and made me look not totally dead which was great.
This has certain ingredients in this that help our skin such as raspberry & chamomile known for their soothing properties, sweet almond seed known for its firming & smoothing properties, sesame seed oil known for its moisturizing properties.
Also I'm normally really picky with certain products I might only use once or twice and not want to pay a large amount of money for them such as this product, but I purchased it from ebay brand new for £10 roughly, and I don't wear it all the time, mainly if I'm going out or if I want a change in make up for the day and I will continue using it.
'Girl meets pearl' is a flattering liquid highlighter that can brighten a dull complexion in a few clicks. The product retails at £24.50, it comes in a 12.0ml bottle and can be purchased from boots, Debenhams or from www.benefitcosmetics.co.uk. The highlighter in some ways is similar to the benefit high beam highlighter; the main difference is that the high beam produces a pinky glow where as girl meets pearl gives a more pearly golden shine. In my view girl meets pearl is better for tanned, darker skinned beauties and the high beam is more suitable for the fair English roses out there due to its pinky finish.
As a fair skinned lady however I still found that the girl meets pearl did not disappoint. It comes in an attractive pink and purple container and it can be twisted from the bottom to release pearly beads of liquid. It is easy to apply and can be applied to bare skin if in a hurry to brighten up dull skin or can be used over make-up to finish an evening look. I mix mine with my benefit 'you rebel' foundation on my hand and apply with a brush for an overall radiant look, or it can be dabbed on cheekbones and brow bones to accent facial features. The product was a godsend during early pregnancy, as my skin looked dull in the beginning and I applied the girl meets pearl product daily to cheat my way to a 'healthy pregnancy glow'.
Overall I thought the product was quite good, I would not necessarily buy it again as I would be more inclined to buy the high beam highlighter as not only is it £6 cheaper it lasted me a lot longer. The girl meets pearl product seemed to finish fairly quickly and it is rather expensive to replace. The only advantage to the product in my view is that it looks better on bare skin, than the benefit moonbeam or highbeam. So for beauties out there who do not wear a lot of facial make-up it may be more appropriate, but if you wear foundation I would say that the highbeam is more suitable.
I'm a keen benefit product buyer and I love the feel when I buy new makeup from there, and with this product there is no exception to the rule, I love the way that this feels on my face, it looks absolutely gorgeous and feels so light you can't even notice that you are wearing it once you have it on as it isn't heavy like a foundation, they subtle pink colour gives your complexion a boost and makes you look fresh faced whenever you put it on, then best thing about this is the fact that you can put it over the makeup you are currently wearing and it wont make existing make up look or feel cakey. The subtle raspberry and chamomile smell in this product is perfect it isn't too in your face its just nice and calming and because of the chamomile it is lovely if you have spent a bit too long in the sun, it makes the redness fade. Like all benefit products it is a touch on the pricey side, but the quality of this product more than makes up for the price.
I received a sample size of this product and wasn't overly excited since I have Highbeam and Moonbeam and this seemed to be very similar.
I have to say that this product does work well as an every day highlighter, and is ideal for blending on cheekbones and brow bones. To me, this highlighter is a little more pigmented than Highbeam, and more pink toned than Moonbeam. It works really well to 'complete' a look, and ideal over foundation, or if you have good skin, on it's own for a bit of a glow!
Here is the hype from the Benefit website:
"This soft golden-pink liquid pearl glides on for a breathtakingly luminous complexion. Twist up & pat on over makeup or wear alone for a dewy luxurious lit-from-within glow. It's pure pearly pleasure!
Customize your pearlessence with the easy-to-use twist-up package...a few clicks for a subtle sheen, more clicks for a glamorous glow."
I do have to agree the product applies smoothly and evenly. It is a very easy to blend product so would be perfect for someone who doesn't have a lot of time to mess around with brushes and sponges!
I think the 'liquid pearl' description over sells the product slightly. The colour, while very nice, is no better than any other high end highlighter.
Over all, I would recommend this if you're a Benefit fan and don't already have Highbeam or Moonbeam.
Now as you've probably already guessed I love Benefit products, its usually the pretty shiny packaging that gets me regardless of whats inside. I brought this without even realising what it really was (my bank hates me!). It costs £24.50 for 12ml from the Benefit website and it is very easily available in everywhere from Debenhams to the larger Boots branches. As always it is worth shopping around and I have seen it for about £18 on various websites.
So Girl Meets Pearl...It comes in the usual gorgeous Benefit packaging and the actual product is in a circular tube that is a metalic pink. It is a light pinky coloured highlighter with a soft gold shimmer. You can use this all over the face for a gorgeous glow or just in certain areas that you wish to be highlighted. I use mine on my cheekbones, brow bone and along the bridge of my nose. It can be worn above or beneath your everyday makeup or even alone. At first I was a bit dubious to put on this very light pink gold shimmery liquid on my face and was quite worried about the outcome. The light pink colour is actually very translucent when its on the skin and the gold shimmer isn't over the top at all. I think this was the part I was most worried about as I didn't want to look like a little girl who had raided mums makeup bag! It is very easy to apply simply click up the bottom and the product comes out of tiny holes at the top. I'm not 100% sold on this idea as I always think product might get left in and when your paying nearly £20 I like to get my moneys worth. It feels very smooth and silky when applying and I just pat on using my fingers. The product does give off a lovely sheen and glow as such. It also contains raspberry and chamomile which is very soothing on the skin and didn't make me break out. My huge downside to this product is that it is scented like some sweets that I just can't put my finger on and any makeup product that has a heavy scent I usually can't bear to use even as far as lipbalms. If you don't like putting really heavily scented things on your face then I would skip this altogether. This product also contains sesame seed oil which I know some people can be quite allergic too and for a face product this could have awful consequences. Purely on the basis of the smell I wouldn't repurchase, if only it didn't have the scent then I would love this product.
Benefit is the place for upbeat trendy make up and I always love trying there new products. One of there newer items I've started to like is there 'Girl Meets Pearl' but they have other products that do the same job.
Benefit - Girl Meets Pearl:
'This soft golden-pink liquid pearl glides on for a breathtakingly luminous complexion'
When I first saw this product I was thinking it maybe like 'That Gal' facial primer which is a favourite of mine, but when taking a further look I discovered it was a highlighter. But one never to shy away from the land of Benefit I gave it a go (plus I had enough in Boot points).
If you have ever tried 'That Gal' from Benefit before you will see that 'Girl Meets Pearl' has the same twist tube, which when you first purchase you end up twisting for awhile before any of the product comes out. I don't really know what that happens but when the product starts to come out after twisting which sometimes feels like forever, there after you only after twist once to get the highlighter out.
A lot of people I know that use Benefit always have that same problem at first with the twist, I guess it's to stop people trying there none-testers in store?
I have used this product several times now and I have always been happy with the results given. It can be used on its own to a bare face or on top of your make up. When I use it on top of my make I normally apply my make up first then apply 'Girl Meets Pearl' on top of my blusher. It doesn't alter the colour of my blusher in anyway; it just adds a highlight to my cheek bones which makes them look a little more defined with more of a healthy glow.
When braving the world with no make up I have also just applied this product to the whole of my face, but I don't think the effect is as good to as when you're using it on top of make up. It did however brighten up my face slightly but it seemed a little to shinny looking for me. (You get much better results if you just use 'That Gal' facial primer on its own)
The cream itself is velvety to touch and very smooth when rubbing on your face, it also smells gorgeous. As it contains - (taken from the Benefit web site) raspberry and chamomile known for their soothing properties, sweet almond seed known for its firming and smoothing properties, sesame seed oil known for its moisturising properties.
Although when using this product on its own as a facial moisturiser I'm not so keen on the shinny look I get, but that being said it makes my skin feel like velvet. When removing this product my skin still has a healthy looking glow, it doesn't irritate my skin nor does it bring me out in spots so that's a bonus!
In true Benefit style it comes in lovely package which can be recycled when empty. You have a skyline back drop with blues, purples darkening down the tube very movie star looking. Though it is not very big when just using this as a highlighter like I do now will last you a while; as only a small amount is needed each time.
Another thing I like to do with this product is apply under my eyebrows and a little in the cover of my eyes which gives you a wider eye look, with that superstar shimmer. So if you have ever used 'High Beam' or 'Moon Beam' by Benefit there is kind of no need to use them anymore if you're using the 'Girl meets Pearl' as it pretty much does the same job.
Anywhere on your face you would like to highlight then this product is for you!
Price and Availability:
Benefit - Girl Meets Pearl liquid pearl for face as they say will cost you around £24.50, but if using this there really is no need to any other highlighter so if you're like me buying this one product rather than several will save you money.
You can purchase this from the Benefit web site, or places like Boots, Debenhams ect. I normally check online to find it cheaper but be careful there is a lot of fake Benefit on eBay.
Although when you look at other Benefit products you get pretty much the same result only this one smells nice and is easier to apply. I love the effect I can archive when I add this on top of my make up giving me that youthful alert shimmering glow appearance. £24.00 is a little pricey but after four'ish months of using this I still have a least half left by the feel of it.
If you do use facial highlighters then I would certainly recommend this one, it's simple to use, smells great and leave your skin feeling soft to touch.
Highly recommend five out of five stars from me.
Thanks for reading :o)
