      Advantages

      Disadvantages

Good for the money and nice and festive!

I'd never bought Barry M nail paint before but a friend recommended them so I thought I'd give them a try.

I wanted some festive nails for a Christmas Party, so I opted for the gold polish in this range.

      THE PRICE
I always see nail polish as a massive frivolity, so never buy expensive ones. At £3.99, this is quite reasonable, especially if you go for a colour that you will use a lot.

      THE COLOUR.
I tested a number of gold polishes from the cheaper ranges in Boots (Rimmel, 17, Collection 2000) and this colour was by far and away my favourite. It's a lovely 'warm' gold, not too yellowy and not too coppery. It just looks really nice. It really does look like 'foil' as advertised, and has a lovely shiny finish.

      COVERAGE.
The thing I like most about this polish is that, even for an amateur like me (I'm clumsy and impatient), it's very easy to obtain a smooth and consistent colour for each coat. Being a little disorganised, I used this when on a bus and managed to get a nice even colour. You can get decent opacity with one coat, which is great if you're in a hurry, though I used two.

      DRYING TIME.
I'm not very good with nails as I am exceptionally impatient and ALWAYS end up smudging them. This paint however, dries really quickly. I did two coats of this on each hand over a 45 minute bus journey, and they were bone dry. Definitely one for the impatient!

      THE DOWNSIDE.
I expect nail varnish to chip, but not this quickly! I painted my nails on the bus to work. By the end of work, at a desk, not doing anything crazy, there were already chips! I suppose it's what you get for the price, but really!?! Next time, I'm using a top coat but I hope it doesn't lose some of the sparkle.

      OVERALL.
Great polish, let down by the chipping, so it loses 1 star from me.

A lovely polish for the festive season

As I have previously stated Barry M do some of my favourite nail polishes and I especially like their Effects range as they look like I have spent absolutely ages and a small fortune getting my nails done when in actual fact it has only taken me a few minutes at home and not a lot of money to achieve the look.

The foil effect nail paint is another good one from Barry M. It is supposed to give you a metallic foil effect on your nails and is available in both silver and gold. For me I personally prefer the silver as I think it gives a better effect but I am tempted to buy the gold again since it is the festive season.

As with nearly all the effects range you are supposed to apply a basecoat underneath. You can use a clear varnish but as I already have some silver polishes I use these underneath so that the effects polish has something similar to bond itself to.

When you paint on the polish it looks gorgeous and has a really luxurious and expensive look to it. When it dries it is actually matt instead of shiny which disappointed me a little to begin with but now I actually really love the matt effect and think it gives this particular nail paint a touch of class that might otherwise be missing if it was shiny and sparkly.

It is very metallic looking and although matt it does shine and glint when it hits the light in the right way. I love this and so did my sister who promptly 'borrowed' my bottle and never returned it after seeing how it looked on my nails.

The drying time of this was really good and after a couple of minutes or so I was ready to go without the polish smudging or being too tacky and sticky. It is also really hard wearing and doesn't chip or split at the slightest touch. I have worn this for a couple of days at a time and it always looks as though it has been freshly applied when I am removing it again. Removing the polish is as simple as normal polish even though it is so hardwearing.

This is another fantastic polish from Barry M and one that I definitely plan on wearing a lot during the festive season. It is classy but modern and funky at the same time. It is the sort of polish where people will notice it and ask what it is you are wearing and where you got your nails done as it is so good.

        Advantages

        Disadvantages

        Not my favourite!

I bought Barry M nail effects foil polish a while back, but haven't used it until recently.
It is silver and is meant to have a foil effect on your nails.
I paid £3.99 for this nail polish in Superdrug, but it is also available to order online at www.barrym.com.

        ~ Appearance ~
It comes in the usual Barry M nail polish bottle, which is square shaped and made from thick clear glass. On the front of the bottle it says, 'Nail paint by Barry M www.barrym.com' in gold coloured lettering.
The lid of the nail polish is a matte silver colour and around the bottom of the lid there are two thin black stripes and in between the lines are the words, 'Instant nail effects' which go right around the bottle lid.
The back of the bottle has instructions to keep away from heat, shake well and apply a basecoat before use.
It also tells you that the bottle contains 10ml of nail polish.
The bottom of the nail polish has a clear sticker on with '19 Foil' on, indicating the colour of the polish.

        ~ Use ~
The lid is easily removed to reveal the nail polish application brush.
The nail polish is easy to apply and I don't find that I need more than one coat. I don't always use a basecoat and I have not found that my nails stain from this polish.
It dries at an average rate. It takes around 2-3 minutes to dry.
As I suspected before purchasing this nail polish the effect it produces does not resemble foil or have a foil effect at all. It is a matte silver colour.
It looks nice on, but it is nothing unusual. It just appears like a normal silver nail polish.
I have always found Barry M's nail polishes to be of good quality and this nail polish is no exception. It is fairly long lasting. It only starts to chip after 2-3 days, which is really good for me.
It is easy to remove when the time comes and I only need one swipe with the nail polish remover to completely remove it from each nail and as I previously mentioned there is no colour staining left on my nails.

        ~ Conclusion ~
Overall, I do like this nail effects foil effect polish, but I treat it as a silver nail polish rather than something that is different and stands out or something that is going to give my nails a really unique effect.
To me, this nail polish does not produce a foil effect whatsoever.
In other departments it is fairly average. It has an average drying time of around 2-3 minutes and it lasts around 2-3 days before it starts to chip.
I probably would not buy this nail polish again, but I would definitely buy others from the Barry M nail polish range and I think the gold version of this nail polish looks worth trying.

        Advantages

        Disadvantages

Really really cute, especially for toenails!

I really am the biggest convert to Barry M products! Before I started buying them I always wondered what all the fuss is about but now I know - they're amazing! I've gone a bit nail polish mad over the past couple of months and have bought a couple of effects and some pastel and neon colours, but I saw the 'foil' effects on their website and I was instantly intrigued.

The polish comes in the standard size for the Barry M polishes which is 10ml which seems to be the average for most brands at the moment and costs £3.99 in Superdrug. Some more expensive brands like L'Oreal only do a 5ml polish, so you are getting good value compared to others. It comes in the same shaped bottle, but has a metallic lid instead. They currently do 3 different colours for the foil effect - purple, silver and gold. Personally, I thought the silver looked the best, but I just thought it would best match most of the clothes I own!

The polish itself has a very similar consistency to the standard Barry M polishes. It may be slightly thicker, but there's probably not much difference. When I used the polish I found it to be really quick drying and probably quicker than their standard polishes. I also used one coat and that seemed to be sufficient, although I might have to try 2 next time to see if it's any better. The foil effect isn't shiny like a tin foil, its more of a matte effect, but its still shiny at the same time if that makes sense. Think of the Batman Begins Batmobile, but silver. That sort of effect!

I reckon that the foil effect is possibly my favourite one I've tried so far and it's definitely worth the relatively inexpensive price tag of £3.99!

        Advantages

        Disadvantages

It's OK if you like the metallic look

I heard about the Barry M foil nail polish before I saw it. In fact, when it was released it seemed a lot of people were talking about it and not wanting to feel left out I headed down to Superdrug to find out what all the fuss was about. When I actually saw the polish on the shelf, I will admit to being disappointed. In my opinion foil has a reflective surface. This polish doesn't, and is more like the matte underside of tin foil which I found disappointing, yet for some reason I still found myself buying one.

When I bought this it was only available in either silver or gold. Now a lilac-type metallic shade has been added to the collection. After much deliberation I went for the silver, as at the time I felt it would be the most wearable.

The polish comes in the same square shaped bottle as the other nail polishes in the Barry M range, although the lid on the foil one is slightly different, being the same colour as the polish inside and having a band saying 'nail effects' around it.

The brush on this polish is comfortable to hold and the brush doesn't splay too much on application, so it's easy to be neat when applying this.

I have found that two coats of this polish are necessary, as unfortunately the polish tends to look quite sloppy and unfinished with just the one coat. I have also noticed that brush marks are quite visible in the polish, which gives it an undesirable streaky effect. It doesn't seem to dry as quickly as the standard Barry M polishes, I don't know if it's just me, but I find it takes a good few minutes until I feel confident it's dry enough to actually use my hands.

Once a second coat has been applied, my nails are left with a sort of matte silver finish. I go through phases of liking it and not liking it to be honest. Some days I think it looks really cool and others I think it looks way too young for me (I'm in my late 20's). One way I have worn it occasionally is with another Barry M product, the black crackle polish. If you're not familiar with this, it's basically black polish which you paint over your existing varnish and it shrinks to give a crackled effect. I think with a glossy top coat, the two can look quite nice together.

Like most of the Barry M nail paints, I find this one to be hardwearing. I don't normally add a top coat with this product if I'm wearing it plain, yet find I can get three to four days wear from it, which is good going for me.

The nail effects foil costs £3.99 and can be purchased from Boots and Superdrug as well as directly from the Barry M website, http://www.barrym.com

Would I recommend this? Maybe. If a matte metallic is the look you want, then yes, go for it. If you're looking for a reflective shine, then probably not. The quality of the polish is good, but the look is not for me personally, so I'd probably give this an average three out of five stars.

          Advantages

          Disadvantages

          Fab colour!

Like most make up fans, I have been a fan of Barry M's make up range for years, such good products for an affordable price. And during an offer last 2011, I brought 2 Barry M products and got a free Nail Effects nail polish in the Foils range. I had tried a Nail Effects crackle polish before, and was expecting good things from this new Barry M Foils collection.

The nail polish is in a glass pot, with a twist lid coloured in the colour of the nail polish. The product is sized around the same as other nail polishes, but the colour does make the Foil collection stand out. The colour through the pot did look quite shiny, and metallic, couldn't wait to try it! The ingredients in the Foil collection is on the Barry M website.

The Foils range comes in three colours, Gold, Silver and Purple. I have the Purple colour, as I fancied a new and unique colour. I would love to see more colours in the Foils range, maybe a pink or green, as it's quite limited compared to other ranges. The purple colour was the first thing that drew me towards it, it is a light purple but does have a foil look, almost a dull glitter. It's quite a uniqe colour, perfect for a subtle shine.

Using the nail polish was very easy, the little brush was easy to use and to grip, but the polish did feel thinner than most nail polishes I've tried, but the application was easy and the brush really worked with the shape of my nails. The application was thin but even. And as the polish was so thin, the polish took about 5 minutes to dry.

The colour looked very bold, and only needed one coat to make the colour look good. The colour did have a foil look to it, it looked purple but did have hints of silver in the paint. The shine of the foil is a perfect and subtle, which is easier to wear everyday. I will be definitely be buying the gold and silver too! The amount in the pot is enough for at least 20 or more coverings, so very good value for money.
I would highly recommend this colour, as it is a really subtle colour, but adds a lot to your nails and is easy enough to wear everyday. The nail polish lasts for at least 20 coats, so well worth the money!

Barry M Nail Effects Foil collection is available is Boots, Superdrug and online (www.barrym.com) and is priced at just £3.99.

          Advantages

          Disadvantages

For the money, you just can't beat Barry M

Ok, apologies but I was all out for 'foil' related headline ideas!

So, the Barry M Instant Nail Effects Collection added some new 'foil' polishes towards the second half of 2011. I believe they initially released the gold & silver & then added the lilac later on but I'm not sure, & that's not so important anyway! Although it is maybe worth mentioning that the lilac is more difficult to get hold of..

This collection, like the others in the "effects" ranges have a RRP of £3.99, £1 more than a standard Barry M polish. Barry M is widely available in the UK in high street stores such as Boots & Superdrug or the online retailer ASOS. I have found them to be virtually non-existent on the continent though.

I've long been a fan of Barry M, as I consider their polishes to be the best value on the market in the UK. I also like the bottles & they look cute lined up on my shelf :)

These foil polishes are no exception, the formulation is excellent although slightly streaky. The polish is slightly thin & appears runny but it levels itself out nicely on the nail. I only required one coat to get the look I want & my nails were dry in less than 5 minutes without any fast drying top coat.

My personal favourite thing about these only having to use one coat, making them ideal for nail art (indeed the last time I used my silver foil was for a tape manicure, where you can loose the sharpness of the effect if you have to add a second coat..)

Aside from the slight streakiness, (which actually doesn't bother me as I don't want to look like a robot!), my only other problem with this product is that, like many Barry M polishes, it chips pretty fast. For someone who bashes their nails a lot (I'm a waitress outide of my studies), the colour won't last more than 2 days without chipping, even with top coat. So if you are looking for long-lasting, it might be best to look elsewhere.

All in all, I love these polishes, they are different without being scary if you want to try something new, & great value too!

          Advantages

          Disadvantages

          Foiltastic

I am a big fan of nail polish and nail art products in general. Instant Nail Effects - foil are a range of nail polishes in silver, gold or lilac which really caught my eye. I own the lilac and silver one as personally I am not a gold fan that's personal choice. The polishes are available online but I purchased mine from Superdrug for £3.99 which I think is a fair price I like Barry M because I find the products are affordable yet good quality and this polish is no different.

You apply the polish the same way as you would a normal polish with the brush provided. The brush is fairly wide and I can coat my smaller nails with one stroke whilst thumb nails take 2. The polish is surprisingly thick when it comes out of the bottle and coats the nail well - I rarely find that I have to put a second over it which means you are getting good value for money as you do not use to much polish each time you do your nails.

Once applied the drying time is very quick I would actually say it is dry in round 30 seconds and is the quickest drying polish I own beating ones which use speed drying as their selling point.

Once applied the nails look like they have a layer of foil on them and I actually bought mine as an alternative to putting foils on my nails which can sometimes be quite time consuming. The polish I have found can be quite strong especially the lilac one so make sure you are in well ventilated room when applying.

As for life of the polish I usually get around 2-3 days wear out of each coat which is quite good for me as I am constantly washing my hands at work.

For those of you who have read my previous Konad nail review this polish is also suitable for using with the nail plates and gives a great finish.

For quick drying professional looking nails I fully recommend this polish 5 stars from me.

          Advantages

          Disadvantages

A good, cheap buy which paints really well

I'm a big fan of Barry M make up and this is great. Barry M nail paints are the thing everyone gets everyone for their birthdays/at christmas out of my friends and this is certainly something a little different. The consistency of the nail paint is a bit thicker than most other Barry M paints and it has a totally different effect. When you paint your nails, you get an interesting shiny/metallic effect. The effect really does work! There is gold, silver and purple available (I've only ever tried silver but my friends have the others) and yes, the foil effect as suggested in the name is very true to what you actually get. There is enough paint in the bottle to last 20 + paints and I can't rate it enough. Barry M is a great, cheap brand and anyone who buys this product will rate it and probably the rest of Barry M's make up collection.

          Advantages

          Disadvantages

A glamorous high-quality addition by Barry M, at a friendly price.

Having had mixed experiences with Barry M's polishes in the past - great colours but unpredictable formulas - I was hesitant to try this, but the silver really turned my head, and I was already a firm fan of their Dazzle Dusts and student-friendly prices. So why not have another go?

PACKAGING: The design is standard for Barry M (simple and cheap but good enough) and one bottle contains a generous 10ml of product. My only complaint is that the writing on the lid begins to rub off after just a couple of unscrewings - Mr. M's proud proclamation of "INSTANT NAIL EFFECTS" has completely worn off my bottle now!

COLOUR: The word "foil" is a bit misleading, implying a high-shine mirror finish, but that's not quite accurate. To further the kitchen foil comparison: this polish doesn't look like the reflective shiny side, but more like the slightly matte reverse side. It's a classy, faintly textured shimmer, as understated as it's possible for a bright silver polish to be. Though the silver's my favourite and most heavily used, the gold is equally good quality, much the same texture, and in a versatile shade that would suit most skin tones. There's also a Limited Edition lilac version which is worth having for the uncommon colour alone, but it's prone to looking a bit streakier, needing an extra coat to look its best.

APPLICATION: Novelty-effect polishes can often be a real devil to apply, so I was happy to find that this one applied wonderfully. The formula is thick and creamy without being gloopy or difficult to control, and one layer is usually all I need for a luxurious opaque coat. I find Barry M's brushes a bit narrow, but here they seem just right, providing smooth and easy coverage. The varnish dries quickly and lasts for a good few days before showing much wear - even for a clown such as me, being terribly rough with my nails. It's worth adding a topcoat for extra longevity; it doesn't affect the foil look at all.

This is a real hit for me, one of my absolute favourite polishes: a great combination of eye-catching colour with a lush formula and easy application. Coupled with a crackle effect, especially a black one like Barry M's Croc, it looks stunning. My bottle was £3.99 from Boots, though it's often on offer or a bit cheaper elsewhere. If you like metallics, you won't regret giving this a look.

A Unique Special Effects Nail Varnish from Barry M!

Over the festive period I wanted to make my nails look that little bit special for the festive season. Short of cash and trying desperately to avoid adding to my increasing credit card bill I decided to deter away from the usual salon manicure and instead headed into my local Boots to see what they had to offer. I have seen various reviews for the Barry M instant effects range including the crackle polish but having seen a number of people wearing this look opted instead for a bottle of the gold foil effects nail varnish.

            Instant Nail Effects Foil ~

For those who have not seen this in store let me describe it to you. This varnish comes in a 10ml transparent glass bottle which shows the rich colour of the foil polish within and has the 'BarryM' trademark logo and the website details neatly printed on the front in a text to match the colour of the polish. Each bottle is capped with a screw top lid which matches the colour of the varnish inside and the text 'Instant Nail Effects' printed around the base.

Unlike the normal colour range of nail varnishes from Barry M this foil effect varnish only comes in three colour ways and these are Lilac Foil, Silver Foil and Gold Foil. Whilst I have seen all three colours online I was unable to find the lilac foil in store and so spent many a minute umming and aahing over which to choose; silver or gold.

Upon unscrewing off the lid which serves as the house for the brush applicator, the nail varnish itself is rather medium to fine in consistency whilst the brush has a rather narrow tip allowing for a precise application. It is worth noting that inside the bottle the nail varnish looks very metallic with hints of glitter, however upon applying to the nail the liquid provides a matt finish which leaves a subtle gleam rather than full on sparkle.

As with all nail varnishes this one smells quite strongly upon opening, however it can be removed in the usual way simply by applying a splash of nail remover and rubbing across the nail.

What do Barry M Say ~

When following the website details printed on the side of the bottle it is possible to review the product information from Barry M. They state:

"Instant Nail Effects foil is an amazing addition to our Nail Paints. It is applied like any other Nail Paint but with a luxurious foil finish previously only achieved from a salon manicure. It only requires one coat and is very quick drying."

            Price and Availability ~

As previously stated, I purchased a bottle of this varnish from Boots and paid £3.99 for it. However it can be bought marginally cheaper online from Amazon where it is currently stocked for just £3.75. Either way, this nail varnish is a bargain in my opinion for the quality of varnish you get.

            Application ~

When reading the side of the bottle it is recommended that you apply a base coat prior to applying this nail varnish. In preparation of this I applied a simple clear basecoat prior to painting my nails with the foil polish. Then I simply brushed the varnish over my nails taking care to wipe off any excess from the brush around the brim of the bottle. The nail varnish is quite thin in consistency and therefore a little went quite a long way.

After applying to my left hand and leaving to dry for a few minutes I moved over to my right and shakily repeated the process. However, it was upon doing this that I accidentally smudged the varnish on my left hand and was slightly unimpressed as I had expected it to be dry given the claims by Barry M.

When both hands were painted I was happy with the result; however I did give my nails a second coat in the same way as I wanted to ensure those small strips of nails either side of the painted areas were completely covered.

            The Results ~

This nail varnish provided my finger tips with a gorgeous coverage of matt colour which gleamed under the light. The colour was exactly as it looked in the bottle and this lasted for a good five to six days before it began to chip. The finish was indeed highly 'foil' and I had a number of compliments over my nail colour.

To spice it up after a couple of days I did add a montage of leopard print spots in a dark purple over my foil nails and these complimented the soft glow of the gold beneath.

            My Summary ~

In my opinion this is a worth while nail varnish investment which I am sure will sit in my nail varnish drawer for many events to come. I would definitely recommend this special effects varnish for the following points:

            * Strong colour and noticeable shiny metallic effect which did not fade.

            * Easy application with the small brush tip.

            * Excellent coverage with two coats of paint.

            * Reasonable price in contrast to other similar brands.

            * Durable staying power which in my case lasted for just under a week, very good given my track record with nail varnish.

However, this nail varnish does not come without its criticisms, those of which are as follows:

            * It required two coats of vanish for complete coverage and not the one coat as stated by Barry M.

            * It did not dry very quickly despite leaving a couple of minutes between coats and I therefore had to resort to leaving each hand for around 10 minutes before I carried on with my present wrapping.

            * This vanish takes a bit more effort to remove with nail vanish remover than other types and I was still left with strips of gold despite a good scrub.

To conclude, ladies this is an excellent nail varnish which does indeed provide a salon quality finish and it comes highly recommended, I am therefore scoring it four stars out of five based on my comments above.

Thanks for taking the time to read my review!!

              Disadvantages

Barry M haven't failed to to disappoint with another clever product.

Barry M has begun to establish itself as the leader in the field of nail varnish and nail art with its nail effects range. First were the crackle top coats and now the foil finishes.
I have the silver foil finish which is number 319 in the range and the basis for this review.

              *+*+* THE PRODUCT *+*+*

Barry M's silver foil nail effects comes in a 10ml square bottle and can be found alongside the crackle nail effects at any stockist. The product is priced at around £3.99 but is quite often on offer.
Other varieties in the range include:
              * Gold (320
              * Lilac (les)

              *+*+* APPLYING *+*+*

Application is easy, shake the bottle and let it glide on.
One coat looks great but 2 gives that more perfect look.

              *+*+* MY OPINION *+*+*

Ok so Ill be honest I wasn't as impressed with this as I thought I was going to be, maybe this is because I was expecting miracles but I felt the eventual effect wasn't foil as such more of just a shiny silver.

I have found it pays to give your nails some tender care before application. I get the best results with a few easy steps:
              * Make sure all your previous varnish is removed.
              * Buff your nails for smoothness
              * Rub in some nail cream
              * Start with a base coat usually a strengthener and hardener which I find helps prevent chipping.
              * Apply two coats of Barry M Foil effects
              * Finish off with a second coat of your nail hardener.

The polish does demand attention and looks great on, you can add a little sparkle with some glitter or a little nail art or even a coat of a Barry M crackle top coat (purple rain looks amazing over the silver foil)

Although the finish wasn't quite as I had expected I have become quite fond of this and will probably purchase the other colours, it is something a little different than other nail polishes on the market have to offer. The cost is reasonable for this type of product I got mine in an offer in boots 3 for 2 across the Barry M range. With it being silver it goes with almost anything and makes your nails stand out in the crowd. When it comes to the demon of all nail varnishes....Chips I've found this colour, like Barry M in general is quite long lasting. The addition of the nail hardener greatly increases the chip resistance of the polish so I've found it can last up to a week which is perfect for me because after a few days I want a change of style.

If you're looking for a nail varnish which is quick to apply and gives you a little something different to the norm this is the bottle for you and at only £3.99 it's a bargain as well.

              Advantages

              Disadvantages

A nice change to normal nail varnish!

When this nail varnish first came out, everyone was raving about it. I remember trying it once and hating the effect it gave me and I didn't touch it again up until recently. I was watching a beauty guru on Youtube doing a nail tutorial and she used this nail varnish to create various nail art designs which looked gorgeous, and so I decided to treat myself and get some to try as I love experimenting with new looks, whether it be with clothes or cosmetics.

I bought my 10ml bottle of the crackle nail varnish from Superdrug and couldn't help but notice there's a wide range of colours on the market now - silver, blue, white, gold, purple and of course black. I was tempted to try the gold, however settled on the black as it is a nice simple colour to use until I got the hang of how it works and how to get the best results. I have since bought the foil one and I love it! I paid £4 for each of these nail varnishes, which I don't think is a bad price, it's like getting your nails done professionally which would cost alot more and the bottle is quite a generous size so it will last me for a while and is therefor brilliant value in my opinion.

I always like to look reasonably smart and presentable, so I was a little concerned about this nail varnish at first as I was a bit worried it may look like chipped, scruffy nail varnish from a distance. To be honest, it can look very odd/scruffy if you don't do it right, but it you pair it with a colourful (rather than a dull) under coat then it looks amazing - I usually do one coat of orange, and then one coat of the black cackle - it creates a leapord print design and it is so quick and easy to do!

This nail varnish as I mentioned before comes in a 10ml bottle which is a kind of square shape with the top being a rectangular shape. The bottle is made of sturdy glass and has the brand/product name written on the front in elegant golden writing. The shade number is written on the bottom. The top screws off and has an applicator brush attatched to it. The bristles are compact and soft and spread the varnish evenly without any effort, I do think though that the brush could be a bit bigger as I usually need to go over my nails twice to cover the whole of them, however this doesn't effect the design that the nail varnish creates and so it isn't a huge problem!

To get the best effects from this nail varnish, you need to follow a few simple steps:
              * Apply a base colour (of your choice - obviously not the same colour as the crackle varnish though) to your nails. It will not work without a base colour. I usually apply upto three coats of the base colour in order for a solid, vibrant colour.
              * Take your crackle varnish and apply it to your nails. Do this as quickly as you can to achieve an even, neat look, as it drys very quickly.
              * The varnish will begin crackling and drying.
              * (optional) The crackle varnish in black is matte, so to achieve a more glossy look it's a good idea to apply a top coat. This gives it a shiny, more noticeable look and also helps the design last that bit longer. With the foil one though this isn't too essential as it's nice and shiny already.

The consistency of this varnish is very thick and it dries extremely quickly, the crackling effect takes just seconds to form and so it's a quick and easy way to get gorgeous nails. I would reccomend doing one hand at a time and taking your time doing it so that you don't rush - whenever I rush it usually all blobs up and so it's best to sit there with my hands still until it dries because unfortunetly the thick texture is prone to blobbing up. This nail varnish can also be used on false nails too and it is fun to create different designs on fake nails to see which colours look the best together - I personally love a pink base coat and then the black cackle effect and I also love the tiger effect that I mentioned above.

This particular colour is also great - it's the silver one which is named 'foil' and it is amazing! It's extremely professional looking and the colour is just gorgeous - so eye catching and it's also really christmassy so ideal to wear at this time of year. I do find that the foil crackle nail varnish is a bit harder to match with a base coat, but I find it works best with black as it makes the nail effects more prominant and also looks every unusual.

The crackle effect is not identical on each nail which I like and it means the design will vary slightly from nail to nail. I am a bit of a perfectionist and like everything to be identical however I do actually like that it's that bit different on each nail as it looks really unusual and very professional. Overall, this is an easy to use nail varnish which is really fun to use and it creates gorgeous, quick nail designs.

                Advantages

                Disadvantages

                A great metallic polish!

                ~*~*~*~* Sucked in! *~*~*~*~
If you've read my recent review of the Barry M crackle effects nail varnish, you will know that I was impressed with the product and how well it worked, but was ultimately disappointed with the results which simply weren't my cup of tea! Despite this I decided to give another nail product in the Barry M nail effects range a go, after being sucked in by an ad on the back of a magazine.

                ~*~*~*~* Heavy metal *~*~*~*~
I love wearing metallics, particularly silver, so I was very keen to try out the silver polish in the range especially as it promised a foil effect finish in just one coat! As I've had mixed experiences with metallic polishes I was happy to try out another one, but was reserving judgement! The two available shades in the range are gold and silver, and it costs around £3.99.

The product in the bottle is a very shiny, quite bright shade of silver, and if this shade transferred to my nails I would be very happy! The product appears the same as any other nail varnish with the usual slim brush and indeed on the end of the brush the silver polish looked highly pigmented - I was concerned that one coat wouldn't be quite enough and may look a bit 'watery' and some metallics do.

                ~*~*~*~* Easy sweep *~*~*~*~
As soon as I began applying this I felt confident that I was using a good product! It glides on quickly and easily and gives a good, intense sweep of silver colour to the nails which is bright and shiny. The polish also dried very quickly.

Once dry you are, as promised, left with a perfect metallic finish to the nails. I didn't feel this needed another coat and was perfectly happy with the finish of them - not too glossy but not too matt either. It's a bright, shiny silver colour so it's very eye-catching and good for parties and, of course, the Christmas season! You can even ramp it up with a glittery topcoat - silver glitter on top looks lovely. And even though I don't really wear gold I would be happy to use the gold vanish too as I am sure it is just as good as this one.

I was also pleased with how long this lasted - with just one coat, with no undercoat or topcoat, this lasted about four days before it started to chip. Not bad at all!

                ~*~*~*~* Foil fantastic *~*~*~*~
Overall I am really pleased with this nail varnish and it is definitely one I will use again and again. It's a bit different from your usual nudes or pinks so it may not be for everyone, but if you fancy something different or making a statement then I would definitely recommend this.

                  Advantages

                  Disadvantages

                  Foil Effect!

I have always loved Barry M Nail Varnish as they have always offered a wider range of bright / metallic / unique colours at a good price. I loved there 'Instant Nail Effects - Crackle' nail varnishes they bought out, so when I found out that they had a new range out I figured I just had to try them!

There were part of the 'Instant Nail Effects' range, however, this time they were called 'foil' as they were designed to give a foil type finish but in the ease of a nail varnish. Currently I have only seen them in two colous which are a metallic silver and gold and cost £3.95 per bottle which is £1 more than the price of the 'normal' nail varnishes. I picked mine up in Boots, though I am pretty sure they can also be purchased in Superdrug.

To use and apply it is just the same as using a nail varnish, it does not seems of a different consitency to normal nail varnish, however, is ever so slightly runnier which makes it easier to apply onto the nail.
I needed to apply 3 coats of this nail varnsih in order for it be of its 'true' colour and once finished doing so I noticed that it had a lovely metallic sheen to it, although the colour itself was pretty matte. I liked the idea of this and although I would normally use a topcoat for prolonged wear, I decided not to with this as I liked the matte, yet metallic effect it had as you would find with nail foils.

The colours were also lovely, they were not yout typical yellow gold and bright, shiny silver, in that they were slightly duller, which I preffered. I liked the gold in particular as it was more khaki gold, than yellow gold (although it definitely did not look green!) which I think made it look more sophisticated.

I think this nail varnish could be worn in the evening or daytime, though I do believe it would look better in the evening as some people may find it is too much for daytime wear. I have also tried wearing the black crackle effect over the top and this also looks great as it gives your nails a really manicured, yet edgy look.

I also found that even when not wearing topcoat it seems to stay in place and does not chip as much as some of the other nail varnishes within the Barry M range. It lasts around about four days before it begins to look a bit tires or starts to chip.

Overall, I would say that this is yet another triumph for Barry M and would make a great christmas present / stocking filler!!
