= = = = = = = The Product = = = = = = = I am reviewing Avon Face Pearls which can be used to give you skin a gorgeous glow. They can be used all over the face or as a blusher to highlight cheek bones. I have read a lot of good reviews about this product and it's only recently that I decided to try it. Now the weather is warming up I like my skin to have a nice, natural looking glow to it. Sometimes I prefer a glowed look rather than a bronze look for during the day as it looks slightly more subtle than bronzing pearls. My sister uses this product and has said good things about it and the majority of the reviews on dooyoo, ciao and the Avon website is pretty good. I personally think Avon products are a bit hit & miss as I find that sometimes their products can be really good, but other times their products can be quite poor. Obviously different people have different views but I was hoping that this product was going to be as good as what I've read about it. The face pearls come in a black box, which states what the product is. The majority of Avon products come in this black box telling you a little about the product in a large range of different languages. The face pearls comes in a large black plastic pot, which to me looks and feels quite cheap. The pot is made from shiny plastic so dust and fingerprints do tend to stick to it a little. Avon is engraved onto the lid of the pot and this unscrews easily to reveal a large foam pad which is quite thick. This is to stop the pearls from moving around and breaking up when in your bag. When taking the large foam sponge out this reveals the face pearls. There are a good amount of pearls in the pot and there are a total of 2 different colours pearl, one of which is a very light pink and one which is slightly darker. The pearls themselves look slightly shimmery. As this product doesn't come with an applicator you will need to use your own brush to apply the product which wasn't a problem for me as I have plenty of make up brushes. = = = = = = = = Price/Availability = = = = = = = = I purchased this through an Avon book which my sister got me. I believe the product is price at around £9.00 which I do think is a little pricey for this product but I really wanted to give it a try and see what it was like. I believe they do other face pearls including bronzing pearls as well for around the same price. You can purchase make up brushes from Avon so if you don't have a brush already you may want to purchase one to go with it. = = = = = = = = = Using the Product = = = = = = = = = Apply the product using a dusting brush. This can be applied all over the face for a radiant glow or as a blusher to highlight the cheek bones. I had already applied the rest of my make up such as foundation so this would be the finishing touch to my make up. As I haven't used the product before and I didn't really know what it was like I decided to apply the product to my cheek bones only to give them a radiant and healthy glow. I swirled the brush into the pot and as I did this I could hear the pearls move around slightly. When looking at the brush I could see there was a good amount of product on the brush ready to apply. I carefully swept this over my cheek bones. I stood back and looked in the mirror to see how the product looked on my face. There was definitely a slight glow to my cheeks but nothing that was that obvious. Although the pearls are different shades of pink this didn't make my cheeks really pink which I was glad about. It gave my cheeks more of a healthy glow than anything. I didn't want to apply too much of the product as it was day, so I left it how it was. Had I of been going out for the evening, I may have applied a little more to my cheeks. I liked that the product wasn't too obvious and it didn't look over the top. I could see that I had a slight shimmer to my cheeks but this was quite subtle and very natural looking, it didn't look glittery or sparkly which I was very pleased about. The product didn't feel too heavy on my cheeks and I found that it lasted for the day without me having to re-apply it. This may be because I had actually applied a primer before applying my foundation which I then applied the face pearls to. If wearing the product alone without a primer I am not sure it would last as long. Alternatively you could just apply the product straight on top of a primer rather than on foundation to give you skin a nice natural glow. This is something I may try during the summer when I tend to wear less make up as it gets too hot. I was impressed that the product stayed looking great all day and the glow stayed on my skin. I always use Simple facial wipes when removing make up and I found that this product came off easily, without having to rub at my face. The product didn't cause any irritation to my skin or didn't dry it out or cause me to have any break outs. = = = = = = = = Overall Opinion = = = = = = = = I have had my eye on this product for a while but have only recently decided to buy it a little treat for myself after continually reading good reviews about it. I do have a product that I use as a highlighter but I wanted to see what this product was like as it was in the form of pearls rather than a pressed powder like my other highlighter is. I have to admit that I don't really like the packaging the product comes in as I think it feels and looks very cheap. I think the packaging could be made slightly smaller as well, and the foam sponge inside the pot which stops the pearls from moving could be made smaller too. I know a lot of bronzing/face pearls have this foam sponge in the pots but others are a lot smaller than this one. The pearls look nice and it's nice that there are two different shades of pearls in the pot. The pearls look shimmery but don't look glittery or too sparkly which I was pleased about as I hate my skin looking glittery or sparkly. I found that when swirling the brush in the pot amongst the pearls you get a good amount of product on the brush ready to apply and I was actually able to apply the product to both cheeks when swirling the brush in the pot just once. The product swept on easily using a brush and gave a nice glow to my cheeks. I wouldn't have said that the product gives a huge amount of colour to your cheeks but it does give them a slight glow which looks subtle and also natural. Although I did like the results of the product I didn't think it was a good as my current product that I use to highlight my cheeks and other areas. The Avon one is very subtle which is nice for a day look, but if applying this for an evening out I would probably use my previous brand. The product was long lasting and was kind to my skin and I was able to remove it easily at the end of the day. In terms of value I do think the product is a little pricey, in comparison to other brands that are available to buy in stores such as Boots and Superdrug. I will continue to use this product as it does make my skin look healthy, but I don't think I would buy it again straight away. (review also on ciao)
Avon illuminating face pearls come packaged in a circular box with lid. The pearls are compact little pellets of bronzing makeup in a variety of shades. Dusted on with a face brush or bronzing brush they serve the purpose of adding a little glow to your face that isn't as bright or orange as some bronzers on the market. It serves to highlight the contours and shape of your face in a natural way. Although they can be seen as a bit expensive (roughly £8)the most advantageous thing is that they last for ages, even with regular use they aren't a product that will need replaced as often as say a bottle of foundation or a mascara. And also even at that they are often on a special offer in the Avon catalogue meaning that you have plenty of time to order a new one in advance. Whilst sometimes I find some Avon products are a case of hit and miss or personal preference I would recommend the illuminating face pearls as a lovely makeup product that adds a natural element to facial makeup as opposed to an un-natural shade of orange that many products seem to cause. Brushed on lightly during the day they create a subtle look and brushed on more liberally on a night out they complement a more 'made-up' loo. The only downside of the product is that I find that the lids on the box are sometimes very hard to keep closed. Once opened I discovered that the lid became looser and I was scared to leave it loose in my bag incase the pearls went everywhere and created a mess. So now I just use them before I leave the house and leave the box at home!
I have a real love/hate relationship with Avon. On the one hand they have loads of really good products but on the other some of their items are really bad and it's hard to know what they are going to be like until your order arrives. Unfortunately for me loads of my friends and neighbours are doing Avon at the moment and I feel obliged to order something from each of them so I have ended up with some rubbish but I have also ended up with some products that I absolutely love. The illuminating pears are one of the things that I love and have become a big fan of over the years. They cost £9 but I got them as part of a deal where I got these and another product for £8 and this offer was still available when I got my latest catalogue. The pearls come in a plastic tub and inside the pearls are little hard pellets of compacted powder in various shades. As you can probably guess from the name they are for illuminating your face and décolletage. To use the pearls you just need to get a make-up brush and sweep it over the pearls to release some of the powder on to the brush and then sweep the brush over your face where you want to highlight. The powder is really light and doesn't sit on my skin and make it powdery and instead they give a gorgeous shimmery sheen to my skin and really do highlight the areas where I brush it on. The shimmery sheen is really quite subtle which is good for daytime wear but for night time when I am wearing these I brush it on a few times layering up the power and this gives a much more impactful effect. It still isn't in your face but it is definitely more dramatic. It feels really light and doesn't feel heavy and uncomfortable on my skin and in fact I would be hard pressed to even notice that I had it on. It also doesn't irritate my sensitive skin and isn't drying although it does help with absorbing some of the grease that can accumulate on my skin after a few hours and stops it from becoming shiny. I have been buying these pearls for a few years now and I am not exaggerating when I say that they last for absolutely ages. I have only actually bought this twice as the first one that I bought lasted me for two years and that was with using them fairly regularly. I'm not too sure how good it is for my skin wearing the same pearls for two years but they looked exactly as they did when I bought them and they didn't cause my skin to break out so I am sure it must have been fine. I would recommend these pearls for anyone who is wanting something to highlight their cheekbones and other contours but who is wanting something more subtle than a bronzing powder. These pearls look lovely and give a really nice shimmer and shine to skin and make it look more healthy and glowing without leaving you feeling as though you have caked make-up on.
I have a love hate relationship with Avon! I love it because I can leisurely order what I like from the little brochure and love when I receive my goods but never like the amount that I am able to spend when it comes round to paying! These I owned for quite a while, in fact with regular usage they lasted me over a year and I've only just got rid of the pot of now! I paid £9.00 for a large black plastic pot of which housed 22g of the pearls. They came with no applicator and just in the pot that had the name Avon imprinted onto them, on the underside the weight was stated (as I have listed already) and contact details for Avon were given. You get rather alot of the pearls and when they first arrive you get a sponge that securely keeps them in place, personally I disposed of this but if you keep it in there it does stop the pearls from getting bashed about and the powder all dropping off into the bottom of pot so nex time it will be kept so a word to the wise there lol! Using Them: You get lots of small like wooden balls which are light in weight and in two different tones of pink and a cream colour. The powder is soft and shimmery and clings to the pearls rather well then all your left to do is get your own face brush and swirl all over them and your left to apply the powder where you want to which according to Avon should be on your cheeks and as a highlighter really but you can of course use it wherever you like....that is entirely up to you. I find the powder very easy to apply with it being soft and none flaking and you san build the highlighter/shimmer up as much as you wish to. It is a none glittery formula, feels smooth on and for me really highlights my skin and gives it a soft dewy feel and look. It has no fragrance to it at all, doesn't agitate my sensitive skin one bit and does its job till I remove it and then when I do it only takes my usual make up removing routine. All In All: This really refreshes and peps up my complexion really well indeed, lasts ages in the pot and on the skin and gets a huge thumbs up from me...in fact I'm reordering some as soon as I have stopped typing this review out......I think they're perfect! Only available from Avon costing £9.00.
I bought these Avon illuminating face pearls a while ago from the Avon brochure. ~ Price ~ They cost £9.00 for a 22g pot of face pearls and they are available to order from the Avon brochure or online at www.avonshop.co.uk. They regularly have offers on their make-up. ~ Packaging ~ The face pearls come in a plain black plastic pot with the word 'Avon' imprinted into the lid. The bottom of the pot has a sticker on telling you that you are receiving 22g of face pearls and it also has the UK address for Avon Cosmetics. The lid of the pot screws off easily to reveal a thick sponge, which fits into the pot perfectly. It is almost an inch thick and it holds the face pearls in place in the pot so that they don't move around or become squashed or broken. ~ Use ~ There are plenty of face pearls in the pot. They are quite small and shimmery. They come in different colours. There are dark shimmery pink pearls and shimmery cream coloured pearls in the pot. I swirl a brush around the pot of pearls to pick up some colour from them. They do move around in the pot while you are doing this, but it is quite a deep pot, which solves the problem I have had using other face pearls of the pearls being pushed out of the pot while I am trying to pick up some colour with the brush. The colour picks up onto my brush easily and blends the different colours of the face pearls. I then apply the colour that I have picked up onto my face. The face pearls add a bit of colour to my face and my face has a healthy glow to it. The product does look shimmery on my skin, but it it not glittery and it does not appear over the top or tacky. The colour blends easily and I have also found that it helps to mask blemishes as it is quite reflective on your skin, but it is not greasy in the slightest. I really like the effect that these face pearls give my skin. I have also found the face pearls to be long lasting on my skin and it is easy to remove with a cleanser or a wet wipe. ~ Conclusion ~ Overall I think these illuminating face pearls are fantastic. They give my face a light shimmery glow. They are easy to apply and look really nice on my skin. I like the pot that they come in. It looks nice and simple and it is practical as well. It is quite deep and stops the pearls from coming out of the pot as easily while you are swirling your brush around the pot. I would definitely buy these face pearls again and I would recommend them.
I purchased the Avon illuminating face pearls when they were on offer a few months ago. I'm not 100% sure how much they were but I think it was about £5.00. The brochure advised that this product was intended to give cheeks and the brow area a subtle, radiant sheen. Sounded good to me as I like to add a little colour and since my skin is light I prefer an illuminating product rather than a bronzing one. This product comes in shiny black 22g pot that has a twistable lid. It looks very basic as far as detailing goes however the plain black is enough. The product is in pearly form and consists of lots of little balls in various pinkie shimmering colours. You apply it by swirling a brush around until adequately coated and applying it to the face. This product is very light and although you can see a hint of warmth you do have to re-apply to build a nice shimmer. The product can be applied mostly to the cheek area to create a nice pinkie blush or all over the face to illuminate. Due to having blotchy skin it is a must for me to wear foundation so I have never tried this product alone but on foundation it does illuminate slightly and add a hint of subtle colour. I would pay around £4.00 for this product but certainly not the £9.00 full price tag as for that price I would expect it to be very shimmery and add a bit of definition to the face rather than a slight glow that's barely recognisable. The more you apply the better you can see it however I don't really like using a lot of product especially on something that is more for day time. Overall this product is ok but it is far too over-priced for the job it does.
In simple terms .. I love Avon products! I have been using for my self and buying as gifts products from Avon for the last 3 years. The one product I have not bought an alternative for or even looked for anything else is the illuminating pearls. The first time I ordered them I paid full price at £9 which I was a bit wary but thought I'd give them a go. They came in a plain black tub nothing fancy, a sponge inside and a fair amount of pearls. They looked a bit too pink and sparkly but when I tried them I was highly surprised. They give a subtle glow to your cheeks and its not a pink that stands out too much - just helps make skin look healthy and glowing. I apply my make - up everyday and found they lasted around 3/4 months which is a lot longer than my blusher before lasted. I also then ordered the other pearls Avon sell which are the same as these but bronzing pearls. These are great to brush all over the face and give a great summer/tanned look without looking orange or over the top. They are both great buys and I would recommend to everyone. I paid full price but these are regularly on offer at a much cheaper price so its worth looking out for and waiting to get even more for your money.
Avon mainly offer cosmetic type products via a rep or from their website www.avonshop.co.uk. *~Illuminating Pearls~* Avon offer two different types of face pearls - Bronzing Pearls and Illuminating Pearls. The Illuminating Pearls are designed to be used on your cheeks to give them a 'subtle, radiant sheen'. When you receive the pearls, the round, plastic pot is packaged in a black box which looks simple yet smart. The black pot features a screw top lid. Inside, there is a thick, round applicator sponge. Underneath, is a decent amount of coloured pearls in various shades of pink. This product has a 24 month shelf life. *~Price and Availability~* A 22g pot can be purchased from the website or from your local Avon rep. It retails at £9.00 but is often on offer. The current offer is 2 for £12 across a range of products which does allow you to gain a considerable saving for multiple purchases. *~My Thoughts~* I am a fan of Avon make up and have been using it for years. One product I have used on and off for around 9 years or so is the Illuminating Pearls. Having branched out to try other blusher type products over the past few years, I had forgotten about these pearls. A few months ago, a neighbour started doing Avon and I was given the opportunity to purchase my favourite items again. I recently bought a pot of these pearls for just £5.00 but I would happily pay full price for this product. The pot holding all the pearls is very secure and hasn't changed any over the years. When I received my most recent pot, it was approx 1/3 full of pearls. The pearls themselves are round and look like little round stones. You can tell they are have a powdery texture as the residue is evident around the inside of the pot. It doesn't look like you get much for your money the pearls do hold some amount of colour and last for ages! The pearls have a light cosmetic scent which isn't offensive in anyway. *~Powder or Pearls?~* I like to wear some blusher of some kind as I like to highlight my cheekbones and give my pale skin an injection of colour. I own lots of blusher products including compacts, loose powders, liquids and cream blushes but these are the only pearls I own. I am not a fan of the bronzed look hence why I opt for the Illuminating Pearls. These pearls are perfect for those with pale to medium skin in my opinion and I choose to apply over the top of my foundation/powder or onto bare skin depending on what type of look I wish to achieve. I am not a fan of the sponge applicator. It is thick and this makes it a little difficult to work with. The surface of the sponge is a little scratchy but once you get around the fiddly size of it, it does pick up colour well and can be applied fairly easy. I prefer to use my own cosmetic brush with the pearls and favour a large blusher brush over any other. I clean my brushes regularly to ensure no build up of germs etc. I skim my brush over the surface of the pearls and they hold together nicely. I have picked one up to test durability and can confirm that with a pearl squeezed between finger and thumb, the pearl will crumble into powder. Applying the colour with a brush is very simple as the pearls let off the perfect amount of colour. I sweep the brush across my cheeks and the colour transfer is excellent. The various pink tones of these pearls is lovely as there is some light and deep tones which blend perfectly. Different looks can be achieved with these pearls and it is all down to layering. I have never applied too much colour to my skin and it is very easy to blend the colour to highlight my cheeks but not make me look clown like (like you would with blusher). A few swishes around the pot allows enough colour for a subtle, healthy pink glow on my cheeks. Perfect for day time use, using for work etc and this is the perfect 'barely there' and natural look. The colour is incredibly lightweight on my skin and my skin feels soft and smooth after applying it. Layering the colour is very easy to do and I love a more evident colour for evening use. Applying a few sweeps of colour to my cheeks results in a warm glow which is so much more natural looking than a bright blusher. Extra layers results in a gorgeous shimmer on my cheeks - not over the top but pretty. I then apply some eyeliner, mascara and some lip balm. I love the way the pink tones compliment my pale skin and enhance my cheekbones but at the same time, leaving my skin looking fresh and glowing. The pearls do not clog up my skin or highlight dry areas which is excellent and the colour does last throughout the day but starts to fade a little by dinner time. The last traces are easy to remove with a cleansing wipe or make up remover. *~Conclusion~* These Illuminating Pearls are a firm favourite with me and have stood the test of time. My last pot lasted me over a year if I remember rightly so I think £9.00 is a fair price. I personally favour the pearls for using to perk up my skin and leave it looking less tired. If you have pale skin and do not like strong blushers or bronzing products, these pearls are definitely for you. The pearls are so much more natural on the skin and it is difficult to over do the colour. Highly recommended! Thanks for reading :)
I was looking for a different blusher, I had tried powder blushers and bronzers which usually looked too harsh on me as I have quite a light skin tone. I had also tried cream blushers but this made my cheeks spotty. I had never tried the pearl-type of blusher until my sister told me about Avon's Illuminating Face Pearls and decided to give it a try. It came packaged in box, which I see as excess packaging. If you order from your local Avon representative your order already comes in a paper bag or if you order online it will come in a postal bag so there really is no need for the boxing of their products. The product itself is of a dainty small tea cup size of black plastic and a screw on top. Once the product was unscrewed I was confused as to whether the sponge inside was an applicator or not. I consulted my helpful Avon representative who explained that it is packaging to make sure the pearls aren't damaged in transit. I used the Illuminating Face Pearls with my big face brush by dabbing it directly down into the pearls and then applying the blusher to my cheek bones to add defination in a sweeping motion from the centre of the face outwards. These pearls aren't as dark as most others which really makes a difference if you have a pale complexion like myself. It gives light defination which doesn't look over the top. Also my sister gave a beauty tip - if she gets a spot and doesn't have a concealer she crushes down one of the lighter pearls and mixes it with her foundation to create instant coverage! I paid full price for this at £9 which I would say is good value. Avon do have many special weekly offers so keep your eyes peeled for even more of a bargin!
I first bought Avon Illuminating Face Pearls on the recommendation of my Mother in Law, who currently works as an Avon representative, she told me that loads of her customers order this blush and think it is really good, so I figured I might as well give it a go. This product comes in a black screw top box and comes with a sponge applicator and 22g of lighter pink and darker pink and light beige pearls that are mixed when I rubbed over them with the applicator to make a lovely shade of pink that looks rather natural when I applied it to my cheeks. The results that I got from these pearls was really good, I was very pleased with how natural the blush looked as the pink that they create isn't too harsh or bold, they blend in with your make up very easily and the finishing results are brilliant, my cheeks also look very well defined when I have applied these pearls. I really like this product because unlike other blushes I have tried, it doesn't wear off during the day and if I apply my make up in the morning, it is still visible at night when I am taking my make up off. This is great as I don't have to spend time re-applying this blush throughout the day. I have quite sensitive skin and have had no problems with this blusher yet, also it hasn't dried out my skin which can happen with some make-ups. You can either buy the Avon Illuminating Face Pearls through your Avon Representative or on the Avon website online, they are usually £10, though sometimes these go on promotional offer so its worth keeping an eye out for them. Overall I think that this is a great product, it is a lovely shade and blends well on my cheeks, if you get it on offer it is a great deal, but even at full price it is a bargain as mine has lasted me for 6 months and it is only about a quarter of it left now. I would give this blush 4 out of 5 stars. *also on ciao under lorrainek90
Having a fairly pale complexion, I try and find products that are going to give my skin a bit of a glow, and I find a lot of bronzers just make me look like I have been tango'd, so when I spotted these pink face pearls in the Avon catalogue, I decided to give them a go. They arrived in a black box with minimal writing on, and when I opened it, I found a sleek looking black pot. It looks pretty impressive, and even though the pot is made from plastic, it still looks like an expensive item of make up. Unscrewing the lid, you will find the top covered by a white, foamy applicator sponge. Lift this off, and the rest of the pot is filled with lots of little pink balls in various shades of pink. My sister in law has these too, and she applies hers with a brush, but I find it easier to use the sponge, and I have also found by dabbing the sponge across the top of the pearls, I have also lost less balls than she has, when she dips her brush in it tends to send the balls scuttling over the edge of the pot, but dabbing the sponge directly over the top I find keeps them safe as the sponge covers the whole area of the pot, meaning there is no room for them to escape! Applying is so easy, I tend to use it just on my cheeks, and after dabbing the sponge, I always blow it gently just to get rid of any excess powder. I must admit, he first time I went to apply I was rather worried, as the colour on the sponge was a rather dark and garish shade of pink, and I was worrying I would look like a clown, but when I dabbed the sponge across my cheek bone, it left a soft, subtle pink glow. My face immediately looked illuminated. Its easy to build your look up by applying more, I find a soft sweep gives me a good enough glow for everyday, and if I want a more dramatic look for a night out I just add a little extra. I have been complimented many times while wearing these for the lovely glow my skin has, and recommended it many times! The product definitely has staying power, I apply in a morning and it is still in tact by the end of the evening and doesn't budge, but it also cleans off easily with make up remover wipes. It also lasts ages, I bought mine at the start of this year and I am not even half way through my pot of pearls yet. As with most Avon products, you can find this on offer a lot of the time, a quick look on Avons website says at the moment a pot is reduced from £9 (which if I am being honest, I wouldn't pay as I find 39 on an item of make up rather steep!) down to £5. It is a great make up item and has become one of my staple pieces that I wear most days and really does do its job well.
Price: I bought this for £1.75 on sale (I don't even know if this is still sold anymore - If they ever bring it back, or if you find it in their clearance stock, you should buy it) Size: 22g (I think) Where can I but this? From an Avon representative, the Avon website, or have a look on eBay (a lot of discontinued make up can be found there) Packaging? The pearls come in a sleek looking plastic pot, all packaged in a black card box. The pot looks sophisticated, but it is made of cheap plastic and easily breaks (I've already broke a pot once before and have had to throw it away) How do I use it? I use a blusher blush and apply this to my cheeks for a nice healthy glow. What is the product like? I love using pearl products because they give a nice even colour. The pearls are well sized (sometimes if pearls are too small they get stuck in the make up brush)! The colour of these pearls would suit most skin tones. I like to use this product because I prefer it to using blusher. I have redness around my nose and find that using a blusher makes it look worse. Using an illuminating type colour gives me a gorgeous glow - This product does exactly that! They last a long time too! Does it work? I have never come across another product that could achieve the same look. My skin looks so healthy and radiant - Isn't that what we all want? It last for the majority of the day with minimal fading. Would I repurchase it? I would repurchase this. You just need to be careful with the pot, because it is really fragile! Otherwise a great product! If you do get fed up on the pot, you can just put the pearls into a different, stronger pot!
I got this bronzer after being recommended it by my best friend who had been purchasing products through avon for a while. It's such a lovely bronzer and does not come out really orange like a lot that I have tried previously. It's very easy to use and brilliant for a healthy day time glow or a bit more of an all over shimmer for nights out. To use it you just need a blusher brush, I'd recommend a larger one as it helps it all blend in as I have found that with the smaller ones you tend to get bronzed 'lines' on your cheeks. As these aren't too dark you can use them on your t-zone which gives a really natural sun-kissed glow and the build up on the areas you'd like to be a little more bronzed. It can also be applied on your chest in the evenings just for a bit more shimmer and sparkle :) This is my favourite blusher that I've used and I'd highly recommend it, it's only downfall is that as the tub is so large it doesn't fit in my make up bag so I need an extra smaller blush just for touch-ups when i'm out.
The Avon illuminating face pearls were a product I had wanted to try for literally years, however I'd just never gotten around to it. Last year I finally purchased a pot from my mother who is an Avon rep. Here's how I got on with them... ==What are they?== The face pearls are basically little balls of face powder, which look like pearls, hence the name. The pearls are slightly different colours, but are mainly tones of beige and pink. The idea is that you swirl a powder brush over them to pick up the powder and your brush will have a little bit of each colour on it. You can then apply this to your face to highlight and give a bit of shimmer. ==Packaging== Like most of the Avon make-up these come in a box. Inside the box the pearls are housed in a black plastic tub. It's quite a basic looking tub to be honest, but I do like the plain and simple look. Inside the tub you will see that Avon have put a circle of thick foam over the pearls. This is to stop the pearls being thrown about in transit as they are quite delicate and will become crushed easily. I'd recommend keeping this piece of foam, especially if you plan on carrying this around in a make-up bag with you, or taking the product on holiday. I should mention that although the tub looks large, it is only filled up about quarter of the way. ==My experience of using them== Using them is really simple. Just take a large brush and gently swirl it over the pearls to pick up the powder. I'd recommend a large powder brush normally, but I have an angled brush from ELF (the blushing, bronzing and blending brush) which is also great for using with this product, especially if you want to apply to the contours of your cheeks. The powder picks up relatively easily onto the brush, but I do find sometimes that the pearls can become stuck in the bristles of the brush, so I have to shake them off back into the tub. I apply this in a few different ways. The first would be instead of a blusher. I have quite a reddish skin tone and my cheeks are especially red. If I'm wearing a light coverage foundation, I find that some of this redness shows through, meaning I do not need a strongly pigmented blush. As this product is more of a highlighter than a blush, yet still has some colour to it, I find it perfect for me. Sweeping over my cheeks gives a subtle pinky glow, with not too much colour and a hint of shimmer, which illuminates my cheeks and gives my skin a natural looking glow. The second way I use this is as it is intended - a highlighting and contouring powder. I apply some to my brush and then lightly sweep it into the contours of my cheeks to give definition to my cheekbones. I also sometimes brush some lightly on my forehead, bridge of my nose and chin, to give a light shimmer in the places which will naturally catch the sun. The final way I use this, is actually to sweep a little over my décolletage area. I would usually use a shimmer cream here - although only on nights out, not on a day to day basis - but being a lot more disorganised than I would like, I often can't find any! I just sweep a light dusting of this over the top of the bust area and it gives a very slight sparkle and shimmer. One thing I really like about this product is that you can build up the colour and shimmer to achieve many different looks. It does go on quite sheer, but sometimes a sheer dusting of powder with a subtle shimmer is all I want. If I do decide on a more intense look, it is simply achieved by applying more layers of powder. Even when doing this, I never find the powder to look thick or caked on. I find that the powder stays on once it is on the skin and I've never found the need to top it up. It's quite a light powder and I can't actually feel it once it's on my skin. I do have dry skin and don't find that it clings onto dry patches as most powders do. ==Price and Availability== The illuminating face pearls are available from Avon for £9.00. You can buy from your local Avon rep or online at www.avonshop.co.uk. As Avon have lots of special offers, you may be able to find this cheaper than the RRP. I believe I only paid £6 for mine, although it was a while ago now, so I'm not 100% sure. ==To sum up== On the whole, I really like the illuminating face pearls and I would recommend them. I think their biggest selling point for me is simply that they are so versatile and can be used in so many different ways to achieve a range of looks. I don't wear powders very often, but this is the exception and they get a full five stars from me.
I am not a fan of blusher for a daytime look as it generally looks slightly harsh on my pale skin so was looking for something a little bit more subtle to highlight my cheeks during the day. So I chose these face pearls in the hope that they would give the look I wanted. When applied they do give a nice subtle Pinky glow to the cheeks which I like and this can be intensified by going over the area a few more times. I have found the effect to last throughout an 8 hour day at work. The pearls are small blusher like pea size baubles generally pink but in three different shades ranging from a Creamy Pink to a deeper pink and they have a slightly pearlised sheen. To apply you simply sweep a brush, I just use a blusher brush, over the pearls and the sweep over the face. As this is a face illuminating product I assume it can be used all over the face but I have not tried this as I only use then to highlight the cheeks. This is the first face pearl product I have owned and I did find a lot of powder at the bottom of the tub but not sure if this was meant to be there. The pearls come in a Black plastic tub with a screw lid. Inside there is a thick piece of sponge which is not meant to be an applicator it is there to keep the pearls secure and avoid damage as they only fill about a quarter of the Tub. The quality of the tub leaves a bit to be desired. Within a couple of weeks it had started to crack around the edge of the lid where the threads are, shortly afterwards bits started to break off around this area which meant the lid could only be placed on top but not secured. Then finally it broke into three pieces, so when I recently took this on holiday I had to secure the protective sponge in place with elastic bands. Not good. On the label at the bottom of the pot it states that it contains 22g and this it is good for 24m after opening. I have had mine for about 4 months and to be honest although they are still giving the same results they are starting to take on a grubby look which is a bit off putting. The normal price for Illuminating Face Pearls is £9.00 but can often be found in the brochure on offer at a reduced price or as part of a mix and match promotion. They can be purchased from a local representative with free delivery or via the Avon website where delivery charges do apply. Conclusion: I like the effect this product gives so will probably buy again, if on offer, for that reason. However I am only giving 3 stars due to the disappointing bad quality of the packaging.
