      Advantages

      Disadvantages

A great daily newspaper at a great price!!

Whilst I am not a regular Daily Star reader (by that I mean that I do not buy it every single day), however, it is one of my 'favourites' when I do buy a newspaper (once a week/fortnight etc).

The Daily Star is a British Tabloid Magazine which is out Monday-Saturday. It is widely available at (all, I think?) newsagents and supermarkets etc, for just 30p. Whilst the paper is probably aimed at men (say aged 18+, due to the page 3 content) I due think that the paper is also 'female friendly' and so I would say that there is something for everyone to enjoy, whether it is current affairs, celebrity, real life stories, sport etc, you will find it all here.

The Daily Star features both long and short stories. I prefer it like this as I find that there is nothing worse than a paper full of 'long' articles which aren't 'fun' to read. I like the short articles because they are 'short' and 'sweet'. However, I tend to like the 'longer' stories too, especially as they tend to be straight to the point and don't drag on and on like Broadsheet type papers do. I also like how this newspaper also features serious news stories as well as 'fun' stories.

Being a huge celebrity fan, I love that celebrities play a huge part in this newspaper; I love seeing what they've been up to etc and so if you like celebrity gossip then you will love this newspaper. I also like how there is a mixture of stories and celebrities as well as on 'normal people'. These stories certainly make interesting reads.

The newspaper consists of simple language which means that it is easy to read. The use of simple language means that you do not have to think about what you are reading too much which means that it is a great newspaper for reading whilst chilling out.

There isn't a huge amount of adverts in this newspaper which is great news. One thing which I did notice however is the fact that the adverts that are in the newspaper are ones which the readers can actually relate to; such as supermarket offers etc.

      ~ * Features * ~

There are some great features in this newspaper. A lot of them are the same-type ones you would find in gossip magazines; gossip columns with all the latest celebrity news and gossip, as well as another column called 'Play List' which features all the latest music news - being a huge music fan, I love this.

Another section which I like is an article called ' Text Maniacs' which consists of a load of texts which readers have sent in. Some of these can be quite comical. I enjoy this section as it lets you see what the rest of Britain are thinking and how certain 'news issues' are affecting others.

The TV guide I find is useful as it allows me to see what's on and also helps me plan my evening. For example if I know a good programme is on at 10pm then I will make sure that I am in before that time etc. So this I find to be very useful in helping me plan my 'evenings' (around the telly!).

I find that like most newspapers, as this paper goes on it gets boring as it tends to feature articles that I am not interested in I.e sports. However, of course that is just my opinion and so someone who loves sports will be in their glory among the sports pages.

A lot of the stories are accompanied by photographs; great quality coloured photos which I think is great.

For just 30p, I think that this is excellent value for money as there is plenty of reading to be had with this newspaper.

If you are after a newspaper which will update you on all the latest news as well as including a bit of fun (celebrity gossip, horoscopes etc, weather, horoscopes etc), then I would recommend this newspaper.

      Thanks for reading!

        Advantages

        Disadvantages

        Redtop with a red nose

The shocking death of Gary Speed that has generated such respect and grief from the football community will be a big test of where the tabloids are morally post the News of the World phone hacking scandal. Like the McCann's saga, at the moment they are taking it easy with him and going with public sentiment out of respect for Speeds family. But it's becoming obvious that Speed wasn't that depressed and so he may have killed himself for other reasons. Footballers have wretched gambling habits and we know they find it hard to keep their trousers on around the ladies, a macho world indeed. But the other taboos on why he may have done what he did will generate far nastier chants from the crowd and expose footballs prejudices once again when and if the tabloids eventually turn on his memory, which, by previous experience, will happen because they cant resist. Speeds death doesn't make any sense and whether we like it or not we collectively hope the secrets - if there are any - will be revealed. That is human nature and why we get the tabloids we deserve. They reflect our busy body and darker side. Everyone reading this would love to know what the McCann's said on their cell phones after Maddie disappeared. If they were discovered to be involved in any way we would have celebrated the hacking tabloid in question. We are hypocrites, why the Daily Star and Daily Mail exist.

The Star is for people who are able to watch soap operas all night by not once watching the news. But the big story this week was the reader's nemesis, David Cameron, finally standing up to Europe and the beginning of the end for us being in it. We all know the Euro is done for and their politicians are just kicking the can down the road so they can get re-elected. We have cut the deadweight and we can sit on the bank and watch them sink as Britain, rather ironically, becomes a safe haven for currencies and bankers -their bankers.

Paper wise the Daily Star picks up its bow and aims squarely for the bulls eye of the lowest common denominator, a working-class no nonsense redtop, a blood red rag to a bull - and full of that bull. It doesn't claim to be a journalistic bastion and has amazingly escaped the Leveson Enquiry so far, why its circulation was so inferior to the Murdoch papers, we presume. It is a direct copy of The Sun with its Page Three girls and has reams of sport at the back to stop the adverts tumbling out. The big sports story is Sir Alex Ferguson is not worried about falling out of the Champions League. I bet he is regretting throwing that Carling Cup match now. What he may not be aware of is only three clubs have ever won all of the three big European Cups and all of their bid Domestic cups plus the World Club Championship and European Super Cup in their history.

The Star is celebrity obsessed too and its politics all over the place like Ulrika's tits these days, the tea brake paper of the canteen that doesn't want to test its readership too much. In the celeb pages we hear Tom Cruise is to shoot another Top Gun movie. The X-Factor, of course, dominated this bit of the rag.

The stories are short and sweet and nothing too technical, a paper that wants to be read quickly and so to race the reader through to the sport, whilst the punters subliminally take in those all-important adverts. You don't think you will ever want to buy those 20 x 50 binoculars for 29.99 or the deep heat massager for the ladies (ahem!! I think we know what the girls want that for!) but people do. I still have my 20 x 50 bins right now! It also has an appropriate puzzle page for its readership and it ideal for your work breaks, their crossword comfortably the easiest of all our nationals.

The paper, somewhat surprisingly, is rather disinterested in the right wing rants that tend to garner a healthy blue-collar readership, immigration, gay men and religion not a big issue here. The Daily Mail tends to have a reporter in court every time black or Asian person goes to jail or, indeed, gets off for a serious crime whereas the Star prefers to just report the more showbizzy stories, the big one today that Jeremy Clarkson is to be censured for telling the exact same jokes most of us want to hear. Again they have not been named at the Levison enquiry and clearly have better relationships with their stars that feature in their paper. The hypocrisy of the stars like Hugh grant and Steve Cougan milking the Levison has not been lost by the Star reporters, a lovely picture of sexy Sienna Miller posing for the paparazzi outside the Levison court rooms the picture of the year for me. With a decent puzzle page its ideal for your work breaks.

A bargain paper better than the sun

First of all I would like to start my review by saying that I am indeed female as you will probably already know by my picture and yes I am writing a review about the daily star newspaper simply because I buy it all the time.

The daily star is a newspaper that is available Monday- Saturday. It is the cheapest newspaper available at just 20p through the week. I must admit up until about a year ago I would never even bother reading a paper my mam used to buy the evening chronicle all the time and I didn't even give it a second glance. One day when I was in the co-op I seen a man holding the daily star paper and seen that it had a picture of Katie price on the front although I can't remember what the exact topic was. I decided to buy the daily star that day and since then I buy it all the time.

I must admit I love a bit of celebrity gossip and scandal and I feel like I spend an absolute fortune on magazines that basically all tell you a different version of the same story. I figured whats the point in spending all this money to read things that I can see in the paper for 20p. It seems like lately everything in the magazines is on the front cover.

The daily star is fantastic for celebrity news and gossip and centres mostly at the minute regarding Katie price and Alex Reid. Of course everything that is printed in the papers isn't necessarily true it's still readable and entertaining for all of half an hour. As well as celebrity news there is your general news too, you can see many articles with daily news that are written well. It contains weather, sports (not for me) stars, advertisements, puzzles and generally money off coupons.

I find it intriguing how a lot of people find the daily star to be a paper for the male generation as I think females can enjoy this paper too but let's see a topless man on page three instead please:-).

Overall I would advise ladies to give this a go. I like it much better than the sun plus it's cheaper.

Buy something else or just go to BBC News website

I'm an irregular newspaper reader, but when I do buy one it's usually The Sun. However, feeling like a change and for the purpose of writing another review, I decided to give The Daily Star a try... and I wish I hadn't!

I thought The Sun was bad, The Daily Star really takes the biscuit! The Daily Star seemed thinner than The Sun, but somehow seemed to cram even more crap into its grubby pages. Most of the stories are about C-list celebrities, and there's an awful lot of focus on Big Brother (surely the worst programme in television history).

The paper seemed jammed full of adverts - many of which are for sex lines, mucky DVDs and dirty mobile downloads, although these are hidden towards the back and in the sports section. The Daily Star has its own problem page, but even that didn't seem up to the (admittedly low) standards of Dear Deardie.

Sports coverage was fair, but I did notice a strange thing with the TV guide... from left to right across the page, it shows: BBC1 - BBC 2 - Channel 4 - Channel 5 - ITV... why not just order them 1-2-3-4-5 like everyone else does?

There was nothing to entice me away from reading The Sun. In fact, I'll probably never buy The Daily Star ever again.

              Advantages

              Disadvantages

An ok newspaper if you want a quick read!

The Daily Star is a UK tabloid newspaper available Monday to Saturday- its currently the cheapest national newspaper at just 20p Monday to Friday and 30p on a Saturday. I don't actually buy it myself, my hubby buys it (and yes I let him lol!), he says its because its the cheapest paper...I personally think its to do with the third page in....!!!!!

The newspaper is a very "simple" paper to read, it doesn't tend to cover very important problems around today, and is much more bothered about Sports, and celebrities. But, the paper is a very easy paper to read if your not really into politics and the recession etc! And seeing as its half the price of the other tabloid papers, and a fraction of the price of the broadsheets!

The Star has a select readership of mainly young men, and the paper definitely caters to its readers....the front page tends to be a short story on Celebrities...lets take this Saturdays front page for example..."TALENT SUE BIGGER THAN BRITNEY", which is a story about the Susan Myers from Britains Got Talent been more popular than Britney Spears. Not exactly breaking news! But, still the paper drags in readers from all over the country!!

The Star is available in all good newsagents, Supermarkets, and Petrol Stations (which stock Newspapers!!!).

As well as the news sections of the paper, there is also a large Puzzles page, and a big section at the back on Sports...though this annoys me lots as the back page is ALWAYS football!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! As a Rugby league fan it gets very annoying when Football dominates all!!! :-@ lol.

Well other than that, The Star is a simple paper to read, the stories aren't complicated, and are entertaining. Yes it may not have the biggest breaking news, but its a good read alongside another paper like the Daily Mail etc.

                Daily Star

                ...Introduction...

The Daily Star was first published on 2nd November 1978 making it one of the youngest British Newspapers and the first national newspaper since the Daily Mirror became a national newspaper in 1903. The editor of the Daily Star is Dawn Neesom who was promoted from womens editor of the paper to editor in 2003 when former editor Peter Hill moved to the Daily Star's sister publication Daily Express.

                ...The Look...

The Daily Star is generally a very bright newspaper to look at in terms of the use of colour on the front page. It draws in readers with it's use of colour and generally lays out pictures and stories well although it can get a bit samey when every page is layed out in a similar manner.

                ...News...

The Daily Star is a red top tabloid and therfore there is quite a lot of showbiz news but there is still some fairly good factual news reporting although they do tend to report news stories a couple of days after rival newspapers have already reported the news. They are also quite reactiionary and have been in a number of scandals where they have had to retract their story.

                ...Goss...

This column is one of the most well known showbiz columns in either newspapers or magazines. Amy Watts and Charlie Morgan write this column and they used to work with another woman who has gone off and is doing her own thing her name is Leigh Purves and you may have seen on recent celebrity shows like Most annoying celebrity moments.

As she was the the main reporter of the three it will be quite interesting to see how the Goss column will be in the future as the remaining two can be quite bitchy in the column in terms of a stars dress sense and if they have put on a little weight. Leigh Purves is much more respectable on the showbiz shows she has been featured on.

                ...Other columns...

There are two other notable columns in the paper and they are from Dominik Diamond and Vanessa Feltz.

Dominik Diamond's column is sometimes quite funny with his dry scottish humour he can make some very interesting valid points and his column is more interesting than most of the other content in the paper.

Vanessa Feltz's column as you might expect is full of moaning and moaning about things that she can't stand in current affairs or whatever it happens to be that week. Any vaild points tend to get lost under a mountain of moaning.

                ...Sports Coverage...

The Daily Star generally has a very good sports coverage although it does seem to speculate a lot in football and again gets the news stories a little behind other newspapers. This is especially so when it comes to transfer deals during the summer. Brian Woolnough is a very sound football writer and he leads the Daily Star's sport section.

                ...Page Three...

The Daily Star is known for it's page three girls and has launched the careers of quite a few well known models. Lucy Pinder and Michelle Marsh are two of the recent models who have featured on page three of the Daily Star and the paper uses a female photographer as the main photographer which is unusual but seems to work fine.

                ...Overall...

The Daily Star is a newspaper which is good for showbiz and sports news as I do admit they do have something to offer in that case but you will find out much more about the days news if you watch any of the news channels on Television. It has been a while since I have read it but it really depends on a headline for me whether i read it or not.

Worth a look, though not much chance of finding many new readers from the other National Daily Newspapers which shows in the loss of readership which the paper has experienced recently.
