As a young child I can remember my mom always putting this stuff on my lips. I hated it but she swore by it. I can remember it tasting horrible and smelling even worse. I was so happy the first time I was able to avoid her putting it on my lips. Well a few years have gone buy and it seems that they have upgraded the product quite a bit its no longer in a small tube that spews ready or not as soon as you open it. It now comes in a little pot that you have to swirl the tip of your finger in to apply. After buying a pot all of my own to try out I opened it and put it to my nose a little pensive as I remember the smell from yesteryears. I am quite shocked to only really smell what to me now smells rather good. I am not sure if perhaps they have changed there formula or if I have just changed on what I find an offensive smell now a days. I swirl my finger tip in the pot coating it with a good amount I want ample coverage. I then start to apply it to my needing lips. I can feel the difference almost instantly. My lips seemed to plump up with the moisture and they seemed to breath a sigh of relief. I now don't go anywhere with out my little pot of blistex. This stuff really works. It now makes since why my poor mom spent over half her life chasing me down to apply the stuff that I could not stand. As for what I don't like about this pot of lip goodies is that its rather messy. You need to have a tissue with you any time you apply to wipe your finger on and you really should not be using a dirty finger to apply this so to prevent the spread of germs you would need to wash your hands every time before applying. Would be easier to use in a twist up tube rather than the little pot.
I first came across this product whilst holidaying in the States and had chapped lips. I was a regular user of blisteze which comes in that tube that always breaks and the liquid goes all over my stuff - you know the one! I liked the way that made my lips feel though because it actually used to heal the chapping unlike vaseline or other lipbalms I have tried. The tube did my head in though so I was pleased when I found Lip Medex. It comes in a plastic pot with a screw on lid so the stuff stays firmly in its container. Bonus number one! The consistency is a little thicker than vaseline and it stays put on your lips. It is medicated but the taste is pleasant, cool and fresh. When applied, it gives a cool tingling sensation and even plumps up your lips a little - collagen? who needs it! It gives you immediate relief from sore lips and you can sort of feel it working. I wear it all the time, as I find it protects my lips and prevents them from chapping, but also heals when they are sore. It doubles up as dry skin relief too - Im not saying you can use it as a body lotion but for the odd dry patch its brilliant. Not sure if it has an SPF sorry - I have looked on the website and on the packaging but it doesn't say. Finally I have found that the best place to buy it is good old ebay - can pick it up for around £2-3 each but I buy it in bulk to save on postage costs.
I suffered for years with cold sores and never found anything that could actually stop the activity before it took hold.I stumbled on Lip Medex in the USA on a skiing trip and have always stocked up when out there as I never found it in the UK until recently. I much prefer using it as a lip balm when it's cold outside or when I'm skiing.I actually gave some out to some fellow suffering familly members who are also hooked on the product now.I never go away without it; great product!
Blistex is probably one of my only absolute beauty essentials. I am 100% loyal to the brand as I've tried loads of other lip balms over the years and none of them have ever compared to Blistex. I like that this version comes in the small pot rather than the tubes, as I find it means that I can put on as much or as little as I want and also that I can get every last little scrap out. With the tubes I find that there's always some left in the packaging that you can't get out. Also with the tubes the balm seems a lot thinner and is more like a cream. I find the thick balm a lot better on my lips. Blistex is thick enough to do a really good job as a sort of barrier cream protectant for your lips, whether against wind, cold, or sun. In fact the balm is SPF 15+, which, while it doesn't offer total sun protection, definitely helps to protect your lips from UV rays. It is also an intense moisturiser and rather than just sitting on top of the lips without actually making a difference to the condition of the skin underneath, it does improve the smoothness of lips and will soothe chapped lips. A common problem I have with other lip balms is the sort of sticky feeling it gives at the back of your throat when you, inevitably, swallow some. Blistex doesn't give me this problem at all and while I'm sure some does get in my mouth I really don't notice it at all. Overall I can't recommend this highly enough. For a pound or two (depending on offers etc) it is a great product to carry with you all the time. It isn't as shiny as some lip balms but will give you a nice little sheen when thickly applied and will give your lips a slightly tingly sensation. Perfect any time of year and for all your lips' needs!
