I like to dress it up on a night out, and being of the slightly gothic persuasion Hallowe'en is always the biggest party night of the year. I have done my fair share of scary horror themed fancy dress parties, but after stumbling across the Leg Avenue brand I fell in love with their cute girly fancy dress outfits. They do almost any costume you can think of and there is a good range of fairytale outfits to choose from. Alice in Wonderland is obviously a popular theme as Leg Avenue have 10 different Alice costumes, along with 5 matching accessories, and even a little outfit you can force your pet dog to wear! I picked the Alice in Wonderland Story Book outfit to be my Hallowe'en costume. The Alice in Wonderland costume can be directly bought from Leg Avenue online at www.legavenue.co.uk. The RRP is £45.12 on the website, which is very expensive for something that will only get a couple of wears at the most. I would strongly advise looking for the costume on eBay as you can get them considerably cheaper, and I paid around £25.00 for mine and that was brand new in the packaging. The sizes available range from Extra-Small all the way up to Extra-Large, although the cuts are on the small size. It important to check the sizing chart as the outfits don't correspond to normal labelling. For example, I'm a size 10 and that's classed as a medium! XS = 6, S = 8, M = 10, L = 12, XL = 14. Product description: "3 piece Alice girl costume, includes head piece, printed apron dress and printed stockings. Celebrity item - As seen on Kym Marsh for a fancy dress party." The outfit comes in three pieces and this gives a nice finished look as everything matches. The main part of the costume is the dress, which has a fitted bodice section with a flared skirt and an attached apron at the front. The dress has cute lacy straps and zips up at the back so it's very easy to get on and off. The skirt is very short so you need to be quite confident to wear it! I'm 5' 10" and this was getting dangerously close to being a cheek-flasher. It helps if you wear an underskirt, as shown in the picture, as this not only gives the skirt some volume and helps it to fall prettily, but it also gives you that extra inch or two of coverage to preserve your modesty. The accessories are fairly basic but they do make it look like a full costume and give a good overall effect. You get a plain black Alice band with a big floppy bow made in matching blue fabric with a lacy trim. This is guaranteed to fit all sizes and adds that nice innocent touch. The stockings are a little questionable depending on your skin tone. White stocking are quite a bold fashion statement, and I think it could look a bit odd if you have nicely tanned skin sticking out the top of them. However, my pale pins looked ok with the white stockings, and there is good attention to detail as up the outer edges of the stocking there is a repeated print of the hearts, diamonds, spades and clubs playing card suits. I think this really fits in with the Alice image and creates an authentic looking costume. The fabric of the stockings is quite thick and they are not sheer at all like normal stockings. Although the picture shows them as hold ups, I would definitely recommend wearing a suspender belt or attaching some "boob tape" to keep the stockings in place and stop them from rolling down through the night - not a good look! The dress was very comfortable to wear and allowed me to move freely without feeling restrictive as the fabric did have a little give to it. I think this dress fits nicely into the Lolita style of fashion as it has that sweet and girly look to it, but yet it is still pretty sexy, especially when worn with stockings. I must say that I got a lot of attention when wearing this costume, and loads of girls in particular loved it, asking where I got it from. I think it you're looking for a fun and playful fancy dress costume then this fits the bill perfectly. It's well made and from a high quality manufacturer, so it avoids looking tacky or tarty like some dress up costumes can. Another great thing about this outfit is that you can wear the accessories with other pieces to create a different look, and the dress is machine washable so it's easy to care for once you've worn it out for the night. I've only worn this a couple of times as it's not the sort of thing you could wear apart from for a special occasion or themed party. You can dress it up further by adding different accessories such as a choker necklace, hair bows, or a matching purse. I think it's quite stylish for a fancy dress costume and looks attractive without being to over the top. If you're bothered about celebs etc. this even has a celebrity endorsement as stated above in the product description! I would recommend this Alice in Wonderland costume as it looks great, is comfortable and gets full marks on the turning heads impact scale! Wear and enjoy!
