Having a need for a 2nd printer, black and white only, I have found this Samsung ML-1860 to be very useful. The printer is easy to set up - took just about 10 minutes. There is a helpful installation disc.
But note the machine does not come with a USB cable, so you will need one.
The paper capacity is 150 sheets enough for home use. The printer is not noisy and gives a good clear print copy. The toner amount that comes with the printer is only a test one and a new full toner cartridge, which is expensive, will need to be purchased. I liked the toner cartridge that comes complete with a printer drum.
After a couple of prints the paper jammed (my fault not printers) I found the jammed paper easy to remove, easier than my larger printer.
Overall this is a great printer for home use or as a 2nd copier. Maybe a little slow for a buisness.
As I did find the print speed a little slow, it takes a while for the information to transfer.
Very pleased all in all.
This printer is perfect for my school work, It allows me to print my essays for school quickly and easily which is really good especially when I'm in a hurry. The printer is very reliable and I have never experienced a paper jam, it has a paper tray which holds around 150 sheets of normal A4 paper which means that I only had to worry about refilling paper around every three months, even though I do print a lot.
When you set up what you want to print or press the 'print screen' button found on the printer, it takes just a few seconds to warm up and the print is very quick. What I really like about this printer is how quietly it works, I often print out my school work late at night or early in the morning so a quiet printer is useful as I don't want to wake up my parents sleeping in the room beside mine.
Be aware that the printer requires a toner, I comes with one cartridge but that only lasts for a certain amount of time, and getting a new one is is quite costly, they can be hard to find too. Another issue is that the printer does not come with a USB cable so be sure to get yourself one so you can use your printer.
This was my upgrade from an old inkjet printer. This was just what i needed, for basic black and white printing this is perfect as it is reliable and sits nicely on my desk. The printer is nice and well made as it is sturdy and strong. I use my printer for work and study. This printer is quick and i have had it for 4 weeks now and i am still using the complimentary toner which is only a tester. Although the printer has an ac cable it didn't come with a usb which was a little disappointing. The setup for the printer was very straight forward. It is also very light so can be lifted easily by anybody. The quality of print is very good compared to my last printer, there are never any smudges or inkspray which makes my college work better. Thanks for reading this review i hope it helped.
I was originally using an inkjet printer, as do many home users, until the print quality deteriorated beyond the point legibility. It had lots of additional functions like photo printing and printing onto discs, etc, but I realised I did not need these. They were fiddly anyway, and I can get them done somewhere else. What I wanted for university (mainly essays!) was just a basic no-frills, reliable printer... and that's exactly what this Samsung model is. When you plug it in, you only load the paper and are faced with just two buttons. The power button and another button that prints what is currently on the screen. Brilliantly simple! There's also only one toner cartridge (black) that slots into the machine. The real benefit of laser printing is the amazingly sharp black text. I was astonished by the quality of the print-outs - much better than my old inkjet. The second benefit is the rapid printing. The other benefit of the printer - specifically to this model - is the size. It's extremely compact for a laser printer and it's actually narrower than my last inkjet (but higher).
This is a great printer for anyone that wants no-frills, straightforward, black-and-white printing. I've been using it in college for about six months now. It is small for a printer, and will fit comfortably on a medium-sized desk. It is also lightweight and easy to pack up, which is useful if you are going to be moving around. It comes with a AC Cable but not a USB cable which you should make sure to purchase at the same time to avoid disappointment. The software is simple to set up and I haven't had any issues running it. The only other useful feature this printer has besides the actual printing is a one-push button option to print the screen you're currently looking at - I haven't found any real use for this.
As for the printing itself - this is the good stuff. Though the printer takes a little while to warm up, once it does printing is very fast. It is also extremely quiet, definitely the quietest printer I've used. The quality of the printing is great - no pixilation or grayness. I've also rarely had a huge jamming problem. I have had the paper stick a couple of times, and this was usually when I filled up the paper tray a little too high or ran a page through again. However, compared to the sheer volume of material I print, these jams were rare, and easily fixable : the stuck paper was easy to get out, and the printer would start again promptly.
Here's the bad news: toner is hard to find, and it's going to cost you. Look for deals online. Luckily, however, I have not had to replace the toner yet. The printer comes with one cartridge.
The ML-1860's Print Screen button - conveniently located on the printer control panel - lets you print the contents from your screen, quickly and easily, even when you're away from your desk. Just one touch is all that it takes. With one click, there's no more extra editing or cropping of unwanted content-clutter from original webpages or documents. If a single page is what you want, it's what you'll get. One simple press of a button prints your screen, as it appears on your monitor. Hold the button for more than two seconds and the ML-1860 prints the last object that you activated on your monitor. Now you can print anything, anytime.
