I've had my brand new HP Laserjet Pro 400 for nearly a month now and we are getting on very well. Thus far it has been very reliable and easy to use and there have been no paper blockages or other errors on it's behalf.
It is really a big black box and I do think it is a little ugly, probably because I am not used to the starkness of the black after my old beige inkjet. It is however a very smooth design without any "bits" sticking out so it's as sleek as it could be for a black box of roughly 40 x30 x 30 cm.
The Pro 400 is a black printer only, this is all I need for my work as I am generally just printing guidelines, applications and contracts. The print is super clear as if done professionally (up to 1200 x 1200 dpi) and it prints very quickly around 33 ppm. The lead time between pressing print on my computer to it being produced is also very quick and it doesn't spend much time thinking!
I haven't had to take a cartridge out but I did have to put the new one in after I had taken the printer from its box. It comes with instructions however I didn't read them and it was simple enough to upload via the CD to my computer, which runs on Windows 7. It's also compatible with Macs. There are few buttons on the printer including an on/off and a reset. The printer's actions are shown on a digital screen, however because it just does as it is told and is a little far from my desk to see I never look rarely look at it.
The printer has two paper trays, one tray and one feeder. I so far have only used the tray which I keep filled up, however if it does happen to run out of paper mid-run its easy enough to add some more and it doesn't upset the printing job at all. The trays will take paper up to A4 in size and down to B5.
The cartridge should do around 50,000 pages. I have used the printer very heavily this month and went through one whole pack of paper in one go, however there is no signs of the laser running out yet.
This printer has a standard memory of 128 mb - I am no expert so I am not sure if this is good or bad but I have sent quite large documents of 50 or so pages to it without any problems. The printer comes with a one year guarantee.
This printer isn't cheap at around £220 - luckily for me my work bought it for me! However I guess if you want a good laser printer then you are looking at quite a high price and, thus far it's working out very well. No complaints here!
