Upon purchasing my f11z1e I was particularly pleased with the screen. The LCD matte full 1080p HD screen is just incredible for watching blu-rays. The memory and hard drive is satisfying. I wouldve liked to have seen the option for a faster hard drive but the system is definately quick. The keyboard has an overall light feel to it and is really nice to type with and the inclusion of a numpad was also good. The touchpad is a pain but ive never been a fan of them and i was quick to purchase a small mouse. The negatives however are definately to note. The battery is appauling. It says it can last alot longer than it actually does(usually about an hour). The laptop also struggles with the quad CPU as it is clearly obvious by the overheating. Problem is the fan is on the bottom, I would definately suggest buying a cooling base for it. The laptop isnt too loud but once it gets hot it stays hot until you turn it off for an hour.
I received my Sony Vaio F Series F VPC F11X5E a week ago which is the customer configured version of the computer above. The Vaio F I configured myself has the i7-720QM processor 6GB RAM and a 500GB 7200 RPM Hard Drive with BD-RE disc drive. The laptop is extremely fast. I must admit faster than any desktop or laptop I have used until now. The screen is magnificent. Pictures are so well resolved that they look almost real. The battery duration is not that good but then this can be expected with an i7 processor. I managed about 2 hours on balanced power settings and 3 hours on power saver settings with WiFi on and normal usage I have read reports that the i7 processor gets hot. I have not noticed this personally after using the Vaio F for one week. I think this is because of the efficient fan system on the laptop. The look of the laptop is professional and the build quality is good but personally I think it could be better. The screen and keyboard is well made but the bottom of the laptop does have a rather plastic cheap feel and there is a area near the blue ray disc drive which does bend inwards when just a little pressure is exerted on the plastic. I would not say this was a deal breaker but for a £1200 laptop one expects a little better. The Vaio F all in all is a wonderful laptop. Brian Booth 1/4/2010
