Looking for a laptop in the £1000 budget range, i would definitely recommend this

This laptop is absolutely great, it is quick, easy to use. so far I have not had any issues with it. If you are looking to buy a laptop within this price range I would recommend this overall. The keyboard and the trackpad is super responsive, easy to use, it doesn't feel cheap.
Switching from windows to mac is a bit of a challenge in which I'm sort of getting use to the way it operates.

I have had a few issues with it, I've been using it for a few months now and the hard drive has died, but Apple was kind enough to send me a replacement. in which so far it is working well. the second issue is that for some reason the trackpad became unresponsive. for this I took the laptop back to the Apple store and they happily decided to replace my model.

For me the battery life is around 8 hours, it all depends on your settings really i.e. the level of screen brightness, the applications that you are using

The retina display on the Macbook is definitely great, i watch alot of movies and TV shows in my free time and with the Retina display it helps to bring out the image quality making it look more realistic.

With the use of iCloud it helps to keep my laptop and my phone updated at all times, so whenever i create a new file or update the calendar it will make sure that the mobile version/laptop version is updated as well.

      Features
On the macbook there are three features which stood out for me.

The first one is the use of multiple display. I have a apple TV at home in which i can just watch a movie on the TV via airplay and on the laptop I can just carry on doing the work. This is a great feature that I use when i get home from work.

The second feature that i love is the notifications that appear on the side of the screen, you can quickly reply to any emails within a few seconds. This is a very useful feature.

The third feature is the use of tagging documents. This is extremely useful when you are in a rush to find a document, as with the use of the tagging it will help to know which document is which. You can write a small description to help you understand what each document is about

      Conclusion
But overall I would definitely recommended this product, You get Apple care which is definitely essential in most situations.

        a totally rubbish laptop

I have never really been an apple fan and took the plunge to see how good they are. For the first few days this laptop was amazing and greet its sleek metal body and click touch pad where just incredible but then i started using for business use. It was absolutely rubbish it couldn't open any .exe files it wouldn't run any programs that i needed and was a general piece of crap. Also if your a gamer no new games come to apple platform and the ones that do are all laggy and slow and cost around 3 times the price of the windows version of the game. All in all i would only recommend this if everyone in your business uses apple macs or that you need it for basic use
Otherwise go and pick up a decent laptop from acer or Samsung that runs windows 8. SO DON'T MAKE THE MISTAKE

Fantastic! Could not recommend it more!

For years i've had numerous amounts of laptops. Samsung, HP, Acer - you name it! and absolutely nothing can compare to my Macbook Pro.

The main thing i notice about the macbook pro is the speed. From starting up the laptop - to loading pages and applications. It literally takes seconds to do anything. For example, on my old laptop (HP) it could take around 1-2 minutes to load up the computer from shutdown and on my macbook pro it takes 10-20 seconds maximum.

The keypad on the macbook pro is a massive plus too - the gaps inbetween the keys really make all the difference. On other laptops you can find yourself accidently clicking other keys due to them being so close together - but this definitely doesn't happen on the macbook pro and the backlit keys are a plus for using the laptop during the night!

Obviously the whole system is completely different to a windows computer - different keys and the computer runs completely different - to start with i did find it a little confusing but within days (and with the help of my computer geek husband) i was a complete whizz on it and actually in the long run its much more simple than a windows computer.

Overall i am a complete mac convert! i can 100% say every purchase of laptop/computer i buy from now on will be a Mac. Totally worth every penny

ooks amazing, feels amazing, is solid and shiny. the os is a dream to work with and the customer support is a godsend. only thing that i would say is a negative is the lack of ram, if your buying one you'll need to upgrade it to 8GB of ram, but whatever you do don't buy it from apple themselves, they charge around £200 for £40's worth of RAM. no need to worry about viri or unexplained hiccups, once you switch from windows to mac you'll wonder why you and so many others ever bothered with the piece of crap that is windows. if your going to spend hundreds of pounds on a laptop you might as well pay the thousand for a macbook pro as the mental anguish it'll save you is priceless. too many plus points to even begin mentioning. and for any of you technophobes out there, this is not complicated to work unlike windows, just click or drag.

Ive had mine for about six months now and i have no complaints at all. The screen is a great size as its big enough to watch movies but not too big to carry around. Although it is quite heavy any laptop is but its not too tiresome carrying it around. It works great and doesnt over heat like my previous hp laptop. Apple make the installation really easy even the setting up of wifi easy for non confident computer users. Great buy!!

If you can afford it get one - it is amazon!

For several years I had owned and used Windows desktops and laptops while looking longingly at beautiful Macbooks. Then last Christmas I finally gave in and bought myself an Apple Macbook Pro 15-inch laptop

The Macbook has so many features it is impossible to list them all but for those of you who understand all the technical details the spec includes:

          2.3 GHz Quad-core Intel Core i7 processor
          4GB System Memory
          15.4" LED wide-screen glossy display
          Back-lit
          1440 x 900 (native) Resolution
          Intel HD Graphics 4000
          720p FaceTime HD camera
          8x SuperDrive
          MagSafe power port
          Gigabit Ethernet port
          FireWire 800 port
          2 x USB 3 ports
          Thunderbolt port
          Audio line in
          Audio line out
          Bluetooth 4.0 wireless technology
          Stereo speakers with subwoofer
          Full-size backlit keyboard
          Multi-Touch trackpad with gestures
Up to 7 hours wireless web
          2.41cm (H) x 36.4cm (W) x 24.9cm (D)
          Weight: 2.56kg

After owning my Macbook for nearly a year I feel I have still not used all of its amazing features and have more to learn. However here are my thoughts on what I love and dislike (mildly!) about it.

          The Good Points

          1. It looks absolutely beautiful. The design is thin, sleek and light in a lovely silver chrome finish
          2. It was extremely easy to set up
          3. I really like the dashboard at the bottom of screen from which you can easily open and close your favourite applications and programmes
          4. It has a handy spotlight feature at the top of the screen where you can search the whole computer in one go if you can't find something
          5. It is virus free which means you don't have to pay extra for virus protection
          6. It has great battery life which lasts up to 7 hours
          7. The speed is amazing and you can have several programmes open at the same time without the laptop
          slowing down.
          8. The picture quality is stunning. You can buy models with retina display but I think that you don't really
need it as the screen is crystal clear with sharp pictures and rich bright colours. This makes it great for watching TV programmes or videos and you hardly notice that the screen is smaller than a normal TV.
          9. The design of the keyboard looks beautiful with its backlit display and is well spaced and easy to type on.
          10. The trackpad is easy to use and you can click anywhere, scroll using your fingers and swipe to access
          different features.
          11. The Macbook syncs directly with my iPhone for my contacts, notes, reminders, bookmarks and calendar.
This means that if I update something on one of my devices it is there on the other device instantly
          12. I love the reading list feature where you can quickly save any webpages you want to come back to at a later time and access when you are offline
          13. The Mission Control Centre lets you quickly see all the screens and programmes that are open with one
          click

          The Bad Points

          1. The price! The Macbook costs about £1000, which is an incredible amount to pay for a laptop. Is it worth it - yes if you are able to afford it but otherwise it is a luxury item you could go without as cheaper laptops might not look or perform as well but will still do the job.
          2. It takes some time to get used to the iOS system compared to Windows - it can do everything the same and more, but things are in different places, which can be annoying to begin with.
          3. There is not a delete key on the keypad and you have to use the backspace key instead. I still get caught out by this at times when I am typing and don't quite understand why it has been missed out.
          4. The default text on the email when you are writing a new email is set at a tiny size. It can be increased
manually but I wish it was bigger to begin with.

          Summary

Overall I love my Macbook. It is a stunning and robust laptop, which is great for writing all my Dooyou reviews on! It was a once in a lifetime purchase and I doubt I will ever be able to afford another one, but I am hopeful that it will last me for many years to come and I will be able to keep exploring all its amazing features.

It is expensive but this is a masterpiece. Keep your eyes peeled if you're looking to spend a lot

            I reiterate:
If money is an object to you, look away now!

The 13" Macbook Pro is typically charged at £999.00 (£864.00 discount price at Amazon right now). £1000 (rounded price) is a bit of a stretch for a Laptop. You can buy them for half that price. That price just can't be justified, can it? For £1000 you demand perfection! Thankfully, Apple delivered. They pulled out all the stops, justifying this extravagant purchase completely.

Firstly I'll list the overwhelming specifics to prove this:
An Intel Dual Core i5 (Ivy Bridge), with a 2.5GHz processor, with a hefty 4GB (I recommend upgrading to 8GB as 4GB is insufficient), and a massive, humungous 500GB HD Drive, and a beautiful display with exceptional Graphics. HD camera and an impressive 7 hour battery too. Yes, it is true that you can find these amazing attributes in Windows computers for approximately £350 less but this masterpiece has so much more to offer than just the listed specifics.
Obviously if you're new to iOS (which I was) you may feel as if you're starting all over again by learning a new operating system. But, fortunately, iOS is so user-friendly that it won't even consume that much time to learn it - it took me mere hours. Also, it's up and running swiftly. Immediately after getting the hang of it, I was in love. Windows was dead to me.

You can go previous/forwards, scroll between desktops (yes, you heard right - multi-desktops) and programs, zoom in and out, get to the desktop, launchpad and mission control with just using hand gestures on the touchpad. This enables swift multi-tasking, shifting between documents, programs and tabs with ease. Learning the hand gestures is simple. In addition, if you're unhappy with the set hand gestures you can personalize them to suit you! You choose what they do.

And to add to all of that, the speed with which it processes is sublime - silky smooth, so to speak. You can run Youtube, three browsers, two documents and background operations as if you're running a single program. With Windows, my computer would stop responding after the first application would be run. Despite this the device doesn't overheat (my old Windows laptop burnt my lap shortly after switching it on).

Lastly, let's talk about its sexually attractive design (haha, just joking). It's so slick, and sleek. I love looking at, beaming with pride because I own such a beautiful piece of machinery. I'm in love with the design, it's so appealing. Thin and light, hence very portable, and yet it is robust! A tough exterior, made to last, which looks like it can withstand a few knocks.

Everyday I look forward to using my MacBook Pro because I love its HD screen, its beauty, its smooth processor and its elegance. However, its built-in speakers are underwhelming. Nevertheless, to conclude, the only major drawback I can see is its price. If you are looking to spend a bit on a computer then snag this! I promise it's worth it.

            An excellent laptop

I've been using my MacBook for 18months now. Continues to be very reliable, runs programmes without any issues. Design is stylish and lightweight enough to be carried around all day; battery life is also excellent, so don't have to worry too much about keeping a charger with me. Found to be very damage resistant - my previous MacBook stood up well to knocks, ended up with a few dents in the aluminium without any performance issues (only died when salt water spilt on keyboard), which is good for clumsy people; through all my accidents, there was no screen damage, even after it was dropped several times. Very useful to have iCloud storage for my documents, so I don't lose them and can access from other devices, another good feature is the multiple desktop option which allows me to switch between 1 desktop for work, and another for pleasure. Good laptop for word processing/internet use, but poor for gaming and program options.

            A brilliant laptop!

I received my Mac book pro for my Christmas last December and fell in love immediately! It is so user friendly and I hate having to go back to a PC at work. Everything is laid out in an easy navigation tab along the bottom and any files that you are working along appear along the right hand side making it very easy to pick up where you left off without having to go through loads of different tabs.
I do sometimes struggle with the shortcuts on the Mac book and feel i still look up quite a lot of ways to do the simple things on a PC for example print screen. Once figured out though it does offer a much more efficient print screen you have two options, the first acts your traditional print screen by doing apple key with 3 but if you hit the apple key with 4 then you can highlight only the section of the screen you are looking for.
I do not like that you have to download lots of different apps to do simple things that a PC programme has all built in but it does specialise on that one area and ususally offers more than a PC.

I would be lost without my mac book pro and don't think I will ever go back to a PC.

            • Reliability

            Disadvantages

A powerhouse of a machine; if you upgrade a few elements.

            Creative Cloud - £22.46

First off - I'm a huge Mac fan. You might guess that from my previous reviews of the Macbook Air (http://members.dooyoo.co.uk/laptops/apple-macbook-air-mc505b-a/1702625/) and iPhone 5 (http://members.dooyoo.co.uk/smartphone/apple-iphone-5/1702640/). That said, I work with both formats in my everyday design role - my preference just happens to be Mac.

I'll layout this review the same way as I did with the Macbook Air review, should you be comparing the 2 machines to get an idea of what you're after.

Price - The major obstacle for most people with Macs are the price. Yes, you do pay over the odds, but you're also getting the best build quality in any laptop on the market - that's only increased further since Apple started producing the Pros with the aluminium unibody. The base price for the 13" model is currently £999.99 - with a 500GB hard drive and 4GB RAM - more than adequate for the general user - but then Macs aren't always used by the 'general' user - those of you with design aspirations might want to bump the HDD size or RAM.

Look & Feel - The Pro is a solid lump of aluminium. Calling it a lump is a bit of a dis-service though the Pros have continued to slim down over the years, and the 13" model I own still remains my personal choice for travelling and office working. The chiclet keyboard, the brushed aluminium back, it's a thing of beauty.

The Keyboard - I could just duplicate the Macbook Air keyboard section here, but for those of you not wanting to jump between them, I'll give a bit more background. The chiclet keyboard that seems to have been duplicated by numerous Apple wannabes (despite them not pioneering it initially) is beautiful for typing on - especially for long typing sessions. The key travel is ideal, and never feels like it's a chore to type on, unlike the clunky industrial keyboards I've used on some (I'm looking at the IBM ThinkPad here). All in all, a treat to use.

The Trackpad - Again, much the same as the Air, the trackpad is slick; the glass allowing you to smoothly navigate around websites, documents and design files. It's a testament to the quality of it that I don't use a mouse - even when I'm at a desk and working across Photoshop and InDesign. It's accurate enough for pixel by pixel manipulation - a rarity with trackpads.

The Screen - Beautifully crisp, the increased resolution over the previous iteration means you get more on screen than before. The retina model looks even more stunning. Personally, I don't think the 13" model suffers less than the larger models - but then I use an 11" Air as my primary devices. Colours are rich, and HD movies look stunning.

Processing Power - I sit in Photoshop and InDesign all day, rendering large (500MB+) files and moving them between applications, so my machine needs a fair amount of power. I find my Air with 8GB of RAM (yet less powerful dual core processor) outperforms the quad core i7 Pro I have, but I imagine that comes down to the SSD in the Air, and the increased RAM. Other than that, the Pro is blindingly fast, even with the standard HDD. I would upgrade to the SSD if you can though, and it takes a few ounces off the overall weight too. I tend to have 8-10 programs open at once, and there's no lag or slowdown, so it's a great machine for multi-tasking.

Battery Life - One word - solid. With wifi and maximum screen life on, I get 5-6 hours out of it. Very impressive given the amount of juice it will be sucking up powering all the design programs (and mirroring to another monitoring when in the office). You should be able to get through the average work day on just the one charge - maybe a top up, but it's great for flights, getting 3 movies out of it fairly easily.

Operating System - I'm going to get lazy here and copy/paste my Air section here (not that it makes a huge difference!)

'I'm sure there are reviews of Mountain Lion out there, so I won't touch on this too much. Having used the Mac OS for the last 10 years or so, it's come on in leaps and bounds, and is still the most productive OS for my needs (creative).'

Overall: Similar round up to the Air (they're not all together that different when used for the same needs like mine...), but if you can justify the price and love a well designed machine that's got a great battery life, the Pros an excellent choice. It's relatively lightweight, and coupled with the excellent operating system, makes computing an enjoyable experience!

A great laptop although you can achieve the same specs using a lot less money!

Well, Straight away I'm not going to lie to you. The Macbook Pro is very over priced, you're paying for the name and that little white apple on the laptop that lights up when in use. This being said you are also paying for amazing customer service where they have thousands of pages of helpful answers to any problems you come across on the apple forums, the on phone customer service is simple amazing too they are polite and know what they are talking about. Lastly if you have a store near you and any problems with your laptop, take it in to them and they'll sort it no problem!

Just because it is over priced doesn't take away from it that it is an amazing laptop nonetheless. I used to hate everything apple, until my friend got the standard Macbook when they were still being made (Now replaced with the macbook air) It was something I'd never seen before this lovely white laptop, far better than any laptop I had owned, its features were amazing. He is a graphic designer and the applications he used all seemed to work seamlessly on a mac, with more usability than any windows counter part even with the same specification.

After that I really did start to like apple and eventually I was able to purchase a Macbook pro on finance. When I got it I fell in love all over again, the usability of a Mac is rivalled by none, windows computers in comparison are useless now I can't stand them. The gestures able to be used on the track pad made browsing the internet so much more quick and easy and even fun, the zooming, page scrolling (Up, down, side to side) picture rotating were all brilliant, then being able to view all applications open in one screen is very handy especially when I am running many programs! The ability to full screen every windowed program I find very useful too!

The last thing I'm going to go into is the battery life, I do love how long it lasts (Up to 8 hours) and also how quickly it is able to charge, even when I've only charged it for a couple hours. I find that I still get more usage out of it compared to how long its been on charge. Also the charger is simply genius because its magnetised so that its easy to slot in, even in the dark such as when browsing the web at night or in a badly lit room, and its not so magnetised that if you or someone else were to trip over it, that it'd break. However I don't recommend doing it on purpose as I'm sure it'll eventually cause damage. The only reason the magnetised charger slot is a bonus is because I've ruined 2 laptop charging sockets due to me tripping over them! (Such bad luck i know!)

I'm not going to go into specification details because chances are if you are looking at buying a Macbook Pro then you already know them, and also you can see them right now at the top of the page! This is just more a first hand experience review instead of a technical review.

            Thanks! Have a good day.

            Too expensive for the specifications

In my opinion, pretty much all Apple computers are the same.
Each year Apple releases new products with slightly better specifications in order to maintain its high price. To put this price in perspective, similar specification of other brands would have a £500 price tag instead of Apple's £1800. Admittedly, you do get fantastic build quality, better than any other laptop brand, but is this worth triple the price?

The model has a large 750GB hard drive which is more than enough for even the most storage intensive home computer users. The dedicated graphics card inside the computer can deal with many of the latest games with ease along with its mighty high-end Intel i7 processor.

The one component I believe lets this computer down he most for he price, is the 4GB of RAM. Although this is likely to be more than enough for basic tasks, if the user is planning on gaming (which is likely with the specifications listed in the above paragraph) this could be a let-down. Many laptops of this price now come with 6GB or 8GB standard.

One of the laptops strong points was its build quality. It felt incredibly solid and seems to match apples claims of being made of the casing being made of a single piece of aluminium for structural integrity beyond other brands. This laptop had accidentally fallen off my lap, bed and desk on a couple of times (I'm so clumsy) and not a single scratch or blemish appeared on the device. The same cannot be said for other laptops I have owned.

The iOS operating system does take a while to get used to for me as I am predominately a Windows guy, however after a few weeks of usage I adjusted perfectly fine - therefore do not get put off by a different OS when considering to buy this laptop, or any other Apple one as you are likely to do the same.

I love my MacBook Pro - much recommended

I have recently upgraded from a Macbook to a Macbook Pro and the difference is astounding. Though I'm not a computer geek- merely a university undergraduate taking advantage of student discount for such a lovely piece of machinery.
This review is more for the people who don't understand the lingo of the computer world.

I AM A CONVERT. COMPARE MAC AND WINDOWS.
              ************
My first few computers were in fact Windows, so I can compare between the two systems and without a doubt tell you that the Mac is 100% better. Here are the reasons why.
              - Ease of set up, when you get this product from the shop you simply press the 'on' button and it guides you through each step to customise the gadget to your tastes.
-Ease of use, everything you could possibly need in on your 'dashboard', on the bottom or side of your screen (AS YOU HAVE CHOSEN IN THE SET UP) there will be an icon that takes you to different things (Word, Skype, Firefox) Another brilliant function is the 'Spot light', in the top right hand corner if you are having trouble locating something, you simply type it in at the top and it will locate it for you.
              - APPS, you can get some fantastic free and paid apps with Mac that you just drag off their website and onto your computer for example 'sticky notes' to go on your 'dashboard' if like me you are a forgetful person and need reminding constantly!
              - Software, unlike Windows you DO NOT HAVE TO BUY ANTI VIRUS! So you are saving yourself the £30-90 each year but not getting that. Mac is not susceptible like Windows.
              - Life, all my windows computers lasted me between 1-3 years before they begin slowing down, getting virus' and dying on me whereas my Macs have lasted 3-5 before these symptoms begin to show.
              - Customer service is outstanding, I had my last laptop 5 years with one hiccup where I took it to an Apple shop and they replaced it on the day, no questions asked. This has been the same with my iPhone too.

COMPARE MACBOOK AND MACBOOK PRO- UPGRADE
              ****************************************
The Macbook Pro is light, thinner and more stylish looking; with a chrome finish it does not take much cleaning to keep looking brand new.
The camera is clearer and it's a less noisy computer, taking seconds to turn on.
The speed of the computer is good and this Mac is easy to use even for those with not much experience.
I swear by Apple as the set up is so straight forward, you press the power button and it guides you step by step in lay mans terms.
Battery life is better MCB was about 3-5 hours depending on what you are doing on it and the MCBPRO is about 5-9 hours depending on what you are doing on it.
Charger is also more stylish, connected with a magnet so if you're like me and are clumsy; tripping over wires etc then this is good as it just pings off rather than pulling the laptop down with it.

              DOWNSIDES?
              **********
The only downside I see to this is that the speakers are not very loud when playing without headphones, though there is capability to plug in speakers and I find this with most laptops.

              Advantages

              • Reliability

              Disadvantages

If you are creative a Mac is a must.

When I first started using Mac's I HATED them and this was down to the PC/windows comfort zone. Someone told me that once you start using Mac's and get used to them you find them much easier than PC's. You can also run windows on Mac's to easy you in gently if you are concerned.
It is also worth noting that as a teacher I have found that students with dyslexia seem to find the Mac much easier to use than windows.
The macbook pro comes with all the features of Macs and is powerful. I comfortably run adobe premier pro and after effects et al.
The apple macbook Pro is a lovely design and the graphics and excellent. The images are crisp and clear and watching DVD'S is a pleasure. The battery run time is also good, with a good 4-5 hours easy.
The only downside, which is the major one with mac's, is the price. Compaired to a windows laptop. However the quality far outweighs the price. Plus macbooks tend to be more sturdy and hardwaring than laptops. I have never had a problem with mine and laptops I have had in the past have a 1-2 year shelf life. Although not being able to add RAM is a pain.
If you are using any design or creative software this is a must. Although Creative suite runs on PC'S its just not as good.

A great product at a high price

I bought this a month ago and have always thought about purchasing one it is a very very very expensive product no matter where you purchase it but th features and software are superb it is well worth the money but make sure you shop around to check for cheaper prices everywhere and consider buying a pre owned model I would never do this myself as I don't like the risk but I can see why some people do but it pre owned however all of this aside it is a great bit of technology that is great for people such as graphic designers and people who use a lot of photoshop however if your someone who just surfs this web it is does load websites extremely fast however I would recommend you find a cheaper alternative such as a iPad

Overall a grant bit of kit but at a high price

MacBook Pro is machined from a single piece of aluminum, an engineering breakthrough that replaced many parts with just one. It's called the unibody. And the first time you pick up a MacBook Pro you'll notice the difference it makes. The entire enclosure is thinner and lighter than other notebooks. It looks polished and refined. And it feels strong and durable - perfect for life inside (and outside) your briefcase or backpack.
