If you want a stable, fast, responsive device then the macbook is for you.

Have had this laptop for around 2 years now and i have to say i am very impressed with it. It is a wonderful piece of kit, very fast and responsive and the boot up time is speedy also. I usually use this for work purposes and it definitely fulfils my needs. Typing on this laptop is very efficient, the keyboard is spaced out nicely and you even have the option to turn on keyboard lighting if you prefer. I usually use this device heavily... meaning that i like to open several apps at once and I'm very pleased with its responsiveness and the fact that it doesn't lag 9/10 times. It has very stable software and it is very reliable. The fact that you cannot run windows programs on it is quite irksome but nowadays there macbook software is becoming more and more supported. You can also install other third party software to overcame that. In terms of design, it is a very sleek device, very thin, very portable. You can take it anywhere with you. The trackpad has plenty of nice features like multitasking, opening and closing apps etc for maximum efficiency. The macbook is also very durable (I dropped it on the floor 2 times and nothing happened). There is a good selection of apps on the app store (but has way fewer apps than the IOS app store). If you are a gamer, there are a lot of popular game titles being released for the macbook, but again some are not supported as they are for windows only. Overall, it is a fantastic device with the only downside for me personally was the price. Other than that i would definitely recommend it (especially for working people).

      Worth every penny

I treated myself to the latest Macbook Air (13-inch screen version) recently and am loving it so far. It is a lovely looking piece of kit, to start with - but the fact that it is a triumph of style does not mean it is lacking in substance.

The first thing that impressed me is how quick it is - everything (including booting up and shutting down) is done in an instant or so it seems. Applications open promptly and so far it has reacted quickly to everything I’ve tried to do on it. The keyboard has a nice feel and action, which may sound like an odd comment, but if you are someone who was key-board trained, as I was, and types really quick, these things matter! It took me a couple of days to get used to scrolling via the pad on the keyboard but actually it became second nature fairly quickly.

Despite being thin and sleek, it still feels substantial and the screen size on the 13 inch is comfortable for everything I want to do on it - writing (as now), emails, using the internet, managing photos, and watching streamed video/TV. The definition of the screen is also impressive; I have a good quality dSLR camera and my photos look superb on the Macbook screen. I also watched a film on it via SkyGo the other night for the first time, and the quality of the image and sound was good, perfect for watching TV in bed.

I won’t pretend it’s perfect. The relatively small amount of storage space is part of the price you pay for it’s sleek appearance, but I have a good iPassport hard drive which works well with it and am slowly getting to grips with iCloud so I don’t find it a massive problem. It is also expensive - you could argue that you can get a decent desktop PC for the same or less money, and you’d be right. But then you don’t have the portability - with this you can so everything you can do on a desktop PC but from the comfort of your sofa…

      • "As most of the world still runs on windows sometimes transferring documents can be tricky but the problem is simple to solve with a bit of extra time"

      Elegant and beautiful to use.

The MacBook air is great for anyone who uses their laptop for standard computing things. If you are a heavy gamer or graphic designer I wouldn't recommend it! It is light, sleek and really a delight to use. Apps made for Mac are beautifully designed and simple to use. I personally wouldn't bother buying any Microsoft apps as the apple equivalents are just as good and much nicer to use, documents can be exported in pages to a word format so they can be transferred to Microsoft users. The battery life is very good, lasting all day, and it is very quick to charge up to full power again. The main disadvantage is fairly small storage space (which helps keep the machine so light and thin) but this can be easily solved by external hard drives and cloud storage. Additionally there is no disc drive but if that becomes an issue then external drives work well. The mac OS also works seamlessly with any other apple devices you own, i can update my calendar, contacts and imessage other apple users on my iphone, ipad and ipod touch without any glitches, I can access all my cloud stored documents from anywhere on any of my devices and photos transfer automatically if icloud is engaged. Another excellent thing about the mac Operating System is regular free updates that keep the machine up to date. Apple also offers significant discounts for students. I would say the Macbook Air is perfect for anyone who uses their computer for day-to-day internet browsing and word processing etc, it is pricey but I would never go back to not using a mac!

Don't think about it. You will make the right choice

As I had been using Microsoft Windows since I was a kid, I was kind of afraid to make the big change and buy an Apple laptop. I tried to use it from friends that already had it and I thought it was very difficult. Fortunately, I made the right decision and I believe I will never regret the choice I made. If the new software scares you, don’t worry as in one or two days you will become very familiar and learn most of the shortcuts. Coming from a postgraduate student, this laptop is the best choice someone can make, especially students.

Fast, reliable, silent, light, very easy to carry out and with long lasting battery, this laptop will not disappoint. If the price worries you, you can see it as an investment as it will surely last more than 3-4 years without a reducing performance. The only thing I can see as a disadvantage is the small size of the hard drive but with external hard disks and online storage places it shouldn’t be a problem. The lack of a cd/dvd drive does not make a big issue for me as these days not many people use cds and dvds.

After two years of using it, I haven’t seen any effects on its performance. It is still the same fast laptop as it was two years ago. The battery is not performing 100% but still very good and can be easily replaced whenever I want as I have a guarantee.

I believe I will keep buying apple laptops for the next years so my advice is to go for this laptop and you will see how much you love it and never want to change back to other pc.

Worth every penny in my opinion

To be honest with you, I am a windows user... however after buying myself the first gen. iPhone I was happily impressed what apple created as so far I didn't really like it. Also I was a fanatic gamer and most of the games etc were designed for Windows platforms anyway..
Now I am a bit older obviously and after I made the step back to the iPhone I now also upgraded my PC. My 'old' pc running windows 8.1 is gone and I bought myself a nice Macbook Air...

how thin, how light... the battery life... I am impressed by this amazing product and after a few days completely used to the Mac OSX that I now sometimes get annoyed at work when I try to open things on my windows pc!!

It's expensive, but if you have some spare money and don't need a new pc every year I think a Macbook is worth the money!
Also there are several companies who are willing to buy/trade your old one for a newer macbook! so for a few bucks you can make a nice upgrade.

Very happy with the product and would buy again.

This is a great laptop. The metal finish and the slim design give this product a premium quality feel. In addition to this, performance is great and the device is very reliable. I have had no problems with it at all.
The quality of the display is great too.

As the design is slim, the product weighs very little and therefore it is very portable. However the downside to this is that the product is too slim to incorporate a DVD drive. However external DVD drives can be purchased.

While the device isn't the cheapest on the market, it is very robust and should last a very long time. The MAC Operating system is very easy to use and also less likely to pick up viruses, compared to other operating systems.

Connectivity is also good with several USB ports available. Overall I am very happy with the product and would buy again.

        Advantages

        • Reliability

        Disadvantages

A decent machine in the right situation at the right time.

Typically people fall into two camps, they either love Apple Macs or they prefer PC computers. I'm the same- I've grown up with PC computers and have predominately used them throughout my working career of near on twenty years. I'm saying this so you understand which camp I'm coming from and why there may be a little bit of unintentional bias in this review!

So, I took a new job and on day one I was presented with a MacBook Air. I was both excited and worried at the same time. For an experienced PC user the MacBook can only be described as a frustration engine. The keyboard short cuts and the way things operate are very different to how this is done on the PC. You would of course expect that to some degree, after all it is a different operating system.

There are many things I like. The MacBook Air has that Apple sophistication that is hard to put your finger on. It looks good, both physically and when booted. I love the fact that the MacBook is effectively silent. Doesn't make a sound. I enjoy the fact that when I raise the screen it's on. If I shut it, change my mind (happens frequently with me for some reason) it's on again, ready for work. Perfect. I really like the keyboard, it's relatively quiet and feels good to use. I struggled with the track pad a bit. There are ways to use it, which differs to the way a PC is typically used so it can be hard to make the transition. The thinness of the MacBook Air and the weight are fantastic, making the device highly portable. In fact I have an old iPad that I can't be bothered to lug around with me any more because the MacBook is just easier and more flexible. What else is good? Well the battery life is fantastic. You can get hours and hours out of it between charges and this means this device is absolutely fantastic for those who travel.

There are plenty of things I do not like. I do not like the keyboard short cuts. I do not like the file management system. I dislike the fact in certain cases processes seem to be a lot harder to accomplish on the MacBook than it would be on a PC. The Windows operating system is just better here. That's just my opinion and perhaps me being a little bit stuck in my ways. A lot of Mac users say that the mac is intuitive. I guess it depends what you are used to. Other areas that could work better on a Mac are things such as Microsoft Office. Excel specifically seems to really struggle to crunch the numbers when compared to a PC. I spend quite a lot of my day in Excel and this crashes out frequently and has a lot of weird issues. However I have noticed that when I'm home I typically write my work documents on the Mac now instead of my PC so I can't hate it too much! Must be getting used to it.

In summary, would I buy one? For a pure work computer where I have to spend most of my day in Excel, PowerPoint or Word then perhaps I wouldn't bother. It's probably not the best machine for this... however for a home laptop, to do more media orientated tasks, and stuff on the Web etc. then I would definitely consider it. For someone who travels a lot- works at airports, on trains etc. then I think it's a great device for this situation. For example next week I'm taking my car in for a service and the dealership have a waiting lounge with Wi-Fi. With this MacBook Air I can go there wait for my car for three hours, work as normal and then drive home when my car is ready. No drama. I don't think I would have tried that on a PC but I'm told the very latest ones are up to the job too.

Give me another six months on it and I might be a convert. What I would say was prior to using the MacBook Air I would have dismissed it out of hand as a purchase choice, now I'm nowhere near as sure and I think I secretly like it.

Fab once you get used to it

Before I purchased my Apple MacBook Air I was dubious of whether I would be able to get to grips with a different operating system having been used to Microsoft Windows, but I had lusted after the sleek stylish lightweight design of the Air. A trip to the Apple store proved very useful and allowed me to try out the laptop. The operating system is very different but easy enough to get used to. I am also impressed that windows an easily be installed onto the laptop so you can have the best of both worlds. This laptop really is a great size for transporting, it;s small and light and turns on in an instant, much quicker than PC alternatives. The battery life of the laptop is also very good and will last a whole day. Another aspect i like is the reasonable discount off the product by being in education whether that be as a student or teacher. Overall if you want something that looks good, can transport and is a little bit different I don't think you will be disappointed.

          Advantages

          • Reliability

          Disadvantages

Great for people with stylish desires

Apple products in general are promoted to have the most simplistic design to have the most beautiful outcome while keeping up with most of the competition in performance. In other words the Macbook Air, I have had this for over a year now can honestly say when you first get it you are dubious, thinking is this going to be a novelty but no it keeps you enthralled from the moment you take it out the box which is also simple and beautiful as far as packaging goes that is... The first thing is the price however, you cannot simply go down to your local seller of macbooks and expect to be able to afford it. Even if you spend a good couple of hours hunting for a cheap deal online I'm afraid you will still be spending more money than someone ever should on a little silver chopping board ;-) Although they have been cut in price in the past year from £1200 approx. by around £200 it is one of the higher priced models on the market for the performance you get out of it. I can say right now if you dont need to have an apple product or have stylish machine DONT buy this as you can get better performances and better prices for those better spec devices. I do know however that a lot of you out there might be more inclined to look at the total package and not just one particular area of a netbook. For example performance is not Apple's selling point to a big extent. Apple is the number one for creating works of art when it comes to the looks department and in order for them to do this they need to reduce the power a little. The tapered look is very cool on the macbook air and even though it is no longer the thinnest available it still very sleek. It is not the lightest but is still ultra portable, as a traveller myself I know that when you have a powerful latpot thats like putting a couple of big bricks in your rucksack it isnt much fun to cart around. The Air on the otherhand is light durable and is 10x better than most laptops for travelling. The machine itself is still good enough that you could scrape by using it for work but its not recommended, this is much more of a personal laptop that is good for fun and games. The built in flash storage means is very quick on boot up and when in standby mode open it up & it instantly back on and you can start using it again.

With 2 usb slots and a SD card slot you should be fine for memory and the headphone jack is of course very useful. The magnetic charger port that whips your charging cable into the slot is a nice touch if not very important. The backlit keyboard is very nice and the keyboard itself as usual with apple is great to use. With the new OS: X Lion (Operating System e.g Windows XP) the multi touch gestures are brilliant and anyone can pick them up. The biggest downside for me personally is the battery life, apple say the battery life is 5-7 hours but it depends on what you are doing, surfing the web it should cope and give you about the 5 hours, but if you plan on using heavy cpu use apps / games or other software it does tend to drop to just a 2-3 hours. It can during such taks also heat up a little and cause the fans to heat up on ocassion which can be annoying it times but like a say depends on the apps used.

As netbooks / Laptops & Macbooks go, this is one of the for the casual user and traveller definitely but if you need it for work I wouldnt recommend.

I love this laptop and wouldn't buy any other

Here I am writing a review about the MacBook air on my new MacBook air, and how glad I am to be doing so! Ever since one of my friends got a MacBook last year I have always wanted one myself. It is one of those items, which you have to sit down and actually use before you value how good it really is.

Obviously, the first amazing thing about the MacBook air is its appearance. I am sure that you have seen from one of apples stunning adverts the beauty of this computer. For what it packs inside it is incredibly thin. This makes it incredibly portable; it easily slips into your bag and is not a hassle to carry around all day. I am proud to pull this laptop out in the library because it looks so sleek. At £999 it comes at a price, rather larger than other laptops, but despite all the hardware, for the design alone it is worth the price.

The flash storage in this laptop is simply amazing! Unlike a normal HDD it has no spinning parts, which makes it battery efficient and extremely quiet and cool. Although advertised as having 7hrs battery life, I average about 5-6hrs, which is still very good. Unless I am consistently downloading large files the computer never gets hot. It has also never made a noise! It is completely silent! But what flash storage is designed for is its speed and it is very noticeable. From completely off to the password screen takes 6secs on mine, or to fully boot up without a password takes 9-10secs. Pages and apps load virtually immediately after clicking on them. The only downside is the price for the size of storage you receive. It only has 126gb of storage which is fine for normal use but not for storing lots of large files or movies. Although you could always use an external SDD.

I know lots of people question the price of the laptop, but for the design and flash storage alone the price is well worth it if you ask me. On top of this you have the amazing OS lion operating system and great apps that you can download.

          Disadvantages

Worth the money if you have it, fun to use, easy to carry around! Incredibly light and user friendly

With such a thin, sleek design there are bound to be some features that aren't included in the original design. For me the main thing when I first bought the laptop was the lack of CD drive. Now, Apple are trying to be too modern here for me - I think that CD and DVD drives are still widely used, despite the growing popularity of online streaming of movies and TV! So I missed the drive of my old computer and subsequently had to buy an external drive (thus using up one of the two USB ports). However, this is worth it for how much lighter it is to carry than your average laptop.

Apple designs are undoubtedly the overlords in intuitive user interfaces and the Macbook Air is no exception, boasting all the Apple programs, (of which I only end up using a handful), and the ease of use.
When you have finished a session on the laptop, simply shut it to automatically send it into sleep mode and open it to reopen a session, without the lag of time it usually takes to load a computer!

Macbook air in a nutshell - smooth to run, portable, easy to use, fun to use, classically Apple, expensive, no CD drive, the lightest laptop I have ever had, easy to carry around, the best laptop I have ever had!! If you have the money, I would definitely advise investing in one of these gorgeous computers!

              • Reliability

              Disadvantages

The best portable laptop on the market.

The ultimate in sleek, desirable, portable computing had received its first refresh in 2010 since the original Airs launch. The original machine was much maligned for being underpowered and viewed as a purely luxury item that had no real place in the market, other than for people who had more money than sense. However a raft of changes were implemented in the refresh that has turned the MacBook Air from the butt of the joke into the life and soul of the portable party.

              Specs:

One of these changes relates to the updated unibody chassis. Gone is the drop down section of the side of the case for the ports and in is a more angular design that incorporates straight sides. These sides enabled the ports to be simply integrated into the flat surfaces. This promotes the devices ease of use that is at the heart of Apples simplistic design ethos.

One major talking point of the launch was the new chassis size of 11.6 as well as the previous 13 inch form factor. This smaller size greatly improves the products portability and is a size that is able to fit neatly into the Apple line up - providing their smallest screen sized laptop.

The thickness of this device is a true testament to the leap forward that Apple and indeed the technology world has made in creating truly portable devices that are able to retain a decent amount of battery life and power. The dimensions of the MacBook Air 11 are nothing short of astounding. The 0.1 inch thickness at the front of the device coupled with a paltry 0.67 inches at the rear means this device is seriously thin. Perfect for ultra portable computing and yet due to the aluminium nature of the chassis the device is able to easily carry off these "wafer thin" dimensions while still retaining structural integrity.

Also incorporated into the body is Apples glass trackpad, boasting all of the multi touch gestures found on the MacBook Pros and Magic Trackpad. The keyboards are full size and are of the same ilk of those found in all other modern Macbook products and offer ease of use due to the spacious placement of keys and the tactile feedback. The keys on the 11inch Air are placed generously and actually slightly overlap the bezel of the screen.

Another key element of these ultra portable devices is the screen resolutions. The Airs display is one of the finest displays ever incorporated into Apples laptop range, even trumping the screens that are used in the refreshed MacBook Pro range. The only downside being that some experience a rapid degradation in colour and brightness as soon as you move from the perfect viewing angle. In my own experience this is a negligible feature that may only prove problematic in doing high level photographic processing or viewing on the device.

This is a neat segway into the true nature of this device. The internet is littered with comparisons of this device to its larger brothers, the MacBook Pros, and due to this comparison, lamenting this devices lack of processing power. This device is not designed to be a workhorse or a hub for high level processing programs such as Final Cut or Logic. The portability of this device is they key to its success. For those people that do not require blisteringly fast processing power, yet need a portable computing solution that makes no sacrifices in keyboard size, quality of screen, battery life, an amazingly fast boot time, instantaneous app loading and mind boggilingly fast file management due to the SSD drives and you surely have a recipe for success.

Once again an emphasis must be put on the fact that this device is not applicable as a base computer unless you purchase the larger model with higher spec processor and ram options. But even with these improvements it may still be lacking if put up against its more powerful brethren when it comes to hardcore processing comparisons. It must also be noted that the price point of the MacBook Pro would definitely provide a more capable alternative. But the premium price you pay is for the ultra slim design and the SSD based memory.

              In Use:

And so as I write this I am staring lovingly into the screen of a MacBook Air, purchased with my hard earned a few months back. My own personal choice was the base model of the 11.6 Air comprising of the 64GB capacity and 1.4 Ghz processor. If i have any processor heavy activities such as music creation on Logic Pro or video editing then i know i have the perfect machine in a 27 inch iMac, and when I'm out of the house at college, work or a friends house then I have the perfect companion in the MacBook Air.

But what about Apples other ultra thin, high end design focussed and SSD laden device? Surely the iPad 2 is cannabilising the sales of the MacBook Air? From my experience of owning both devices then there are some areas in which the devices overlap. Portability and beautiful displays to one side and the merits of each device are extremely clear. The MacBook Air facilitates productivity through the ability to truly multitask and use multiple windows at the same time combined with the full-size keyboard.

When it really comes down to it the MacBook Air is my travel companion, my device of choice when something needs to get done and I'm away from home. Its high quality keyboard makes typing a large volume of words as breeze, the high quality display means that multi media functions are able to be handled with ease. The extremely small surface area and thickness of the 11 inch means that it fits into most backpacks with plenty of space to spare and the excellent battery life means that it doesn't need to be perpetually plugged in. All in all, as long as you understand the MacBook Airs limitations, the slow processor and limited memory, and you feel it would suit your needs then I would advise any potential suitor to invest their money into this device. For the financial outlay you get a true Apple thoroughbred, high quality designed, amazing service and a product that you know will stand the test of time.

                Okay Okay

Hi friends I bought Apple MacBook Recently for my personal use. I am a engineering student and I need laptop to study and for some entertainment. I am sharing my experience with you hope this will help you to make a good choice.
When I open the packing I noticed that its bit heavy than any other laptops. It's not too heavy but still. The screen is glossy and shining and it feels good when we look at such a bright screen. Apple MacBook consists of Intel chip so I think there is no performance issue. Keyboard is not that comfortable some keys are loose and sometimes it stops working. The quality of camera is very amazing. The stereo speakers are same as others and performance is satisfactory. The best thing about MacBook is Remote from which we can play music, view photos and add playlists. The battery life is also great. Its around three and half hours. The integrated graphics card is not good for gamers. They can't play high graphics games on such graphic card.

Some heat issue is also there. The bottom part of MacBook becomes too hot. I am big fan of movies and love to collect movies in DVD's. A dual layer DVD burner of MacBook helps me a lot. One more thing the card reader is not there in the MacBook. I was bit surprised when I got to know this.
Overall it's running fine for me and I am satisfied but I heard many people complaining that their hard drive and battery suddenly crashed. So friends be careful before making your decision.

a new notebook to use in your life

the first time made the Apple MacBook Air - 1.6 GHz, very impressive work of this one. The new Apple notebook, the MacBook Air, May is not exactly easy as many had expected, but it is easy to break new arena for baby laptops. Imitating the 13-inch MacBook contour of the line itself is accepted 0.76 inch thick to be blubbery, and what Apple as the "world's thinnest of the notepad." Some Nitpicker means an incomprehensible Mitsubishi laptop from 1997 was a thin hair, but two of the public accepts indigenous Ultra Portable. This stylish and super slim laptop has everything but the CD/DVD drive where you can play your cd collections, import dvds and copy them and open files using a compact disc. Yes, you got a slimmer notebook than before altough you have to sacrifice one feature for good looks. Be wherever you are, use this wonderful notebook. enjoy it. Now standard on Apple laptops, the magnetic power adaptor keeps your laptop safe should you accidentally trip over the power cord. Amazing!
