I have had this laptop for the past 3 years now and i have to say it has treated me well over the years. There has only been one problem i have faced and that is the battery, i am still using the original battery though after about a year it began to hold less and less charge til now where i get 5 minutes out of it if i am lucky. I do not see this as a very valid complaint compared to the specs and the price you would find it in the market for. I would not recommend this laptop for anybody that is looking for something to take with them on the go as its large build and monitor are not lightweight at all. Though if you are looking for something that is going to be reliable and good to you without problems cropping up over and over again this laptop would be a very good choice. My main use for this over the years has been for watching TV and playing games, the specs and brilliant monitor has made these aspects a paradise. Though the only downfall to using it for these reasons is there is no HDMI port built in. I have not regretted paying the 400pounds i did 3 years ago on this laptop as it has probably been the best money i have spent, the high speed processor and reasonable amount of RAM has made gaming and surfing the web very fast and easy with minimal loading times. I would definitely recommend this laptop to anyone in the market looking for something to view videos and play games using. If you are looking for a laptop for portability this would not be the best choice for money.
I got this laptop as a present about this time last year (August 2008). I had never had a laptop before, and I thought it would be handy to have one for university. I have to say, that this laptop is top notch! The processor/ 2gb ram combination seems to be able to put up with most day to day stresses. The two 160gb harddrives are very useful, which is a lot for laptops. The graphics card, 8400m, is good enough to play most games on low settings, and the processor seems to be able to cope quite well too. The 17in WXGA+ LCD screen is very nice, and HD clips show up very nicely on it. The laptop comes with a HD-DVD drive, which many people would say is useless as the format is obsolete. This may be the case, but it means that HD-DVDs are going dirt cheap. I see this as a bonus. The built in speaker on the laptop is half decent, but not great at high volumes. The battery life has been quite good for me, after about a 4 hour charge, it lasts between 1hour and a half to 2hours and a half depending on what I am using it for, and the power saving scheme. I would recommend this laptop, and I think this could even be a desktop replacement!
