“ Brand: Tesco / Product Type: Grater „
I bought this grater from Tesco while looking for cheap kitchen utensils to furnish my kitchen after moving into student accommodation. At 74p it was a lot cheaper than other branded graters.
This grater has a strong black plastic border, with metal in the centre. It has a handle on the top, with a hole which can be used to hang it on the wall as well as hold it when grating. There are three sections in the metal part, one for cheese, a slicer and at the bottom a section for grating the zest on lemons/oranges etc.
I mainly use the grater for cheese grating, which it is good at. I would like it is the grating portion was larger, as I only get small pieces of cheese from each grating. It is fine for grating small amounts, but would mean that grating a large amount of cheese takes ages.
It is nice and sharp, and is good at grating the plastic cheese wrapper when I hold the cheese too far down!!
It is also very easy to wash, just a quick wipe and its done. When I left the grater on top of a bowl to dry, the whole grater has become curved!
It can be used by left or right handed people equally well. However it would perhaps be unsuitable for those with arthritis or similar conditions because it lacks a base and therefore stability. I used to often cut myself on the grater at my parents' but never have with this one.
Overall its a good grater, and I would recommend it.
Tesco value flat grater
We purchased this grater when moving into our flat. I love cheese but having never lived on my own before I had no idea about what made a good cheese grater and just opted for the cheapest thinking they would all be the same. This grater is from the tesco value range and cost a very reasonable 74p.
The Greater is a flat style and has white plastic edging, the one pictured had black edging so I'm not sure if the design has been changed recently. It has a plastic handle to hold while grating. I did not find this particularly comfortable and preferred to just hold the sides. It has 3 different grating size holes although I only ever used the top ones. This grater is sturdy. For the price I was expecting it to be flimsy but it has exceeded my expectations.
The grater is very easy to clean, being a flat side there is no where for the cheese to hide so it comes nicely clean with just a quick wipe although as previously stated I only used the larger sized holes so it may be trickier cleaning the cheese out of the little holes. It is also worth noting that I only used this to grate cheese, this was quite hard to do as the section I wanted to use was quite small so it took ages. I feel that they would have been better sticking to one size of hole so at least you could use it to grate one size reasonably well rather than grating 3 sizes terribly.
This grater is a great price and arguably It does do the job you want it too albeit slowly and uncomfortably. I would recommend it to people on a budget or those limited on space as it is easier to store than a pyramid one and I've kept it as a spare but all in all I prefer a pyramid style greater for a more comfortable and quicker way of grating cheese.
Only 2 stars from me as I wouldn't want to use this as my main grater.
When myself and my husband moved into our own place about 6 years ago we didn't have a massive amount of money to get everything we needed and as such we did buy a lot of value style products with the thought that we would replace things with better items gradually as we had more money.
Cheese is a firm favourite with both of us so a cheese grater was a must for our house and we bought it from the Tesco Value range. I think we paid about 50p at the time of purchase although i have looked it up now and it currently sells at 74p. The grater has no packaging to speak of and simply has a little cardboard label on it which holds the barcode so you can buy it and the Tesco Value logo in the usual red, white and blue.
The cheese grater is about 3 inches wide by about 7 inches high and has a black plastic surround with a hole cut out at the top for you to put your hand in to hold it still whilst in use. inside the black surround there is the metal grater, the grater has large holes at the top which is what I always used, a cheese slicing part in the middle and then a small grating part at the bottom which you would use for grating chocolate onto drinks and the like.
The grater is pretty sturdy and doesn't bend or curve whilst you are using it although I did find that it slipped if i used it against a chopping board and found the best place to use it was into a bowl. The metal on the grater isn't really all that sharp, it managed to grate the cheese well although stopping less than half way down and moving back to the top was a pain but when trying to grate harder things such as chocolate the grater isn't really sharp enough.
It didn't take long to realise that I didn't like the grater and to replace it with a full sized pyramid style grater, if you are on a tight budget this will do the job but prepare to get annoyed with it moving and for some major arm ache when grating hard items. I personally wouldn't recommend this unless it really is all you can afford.
You can actually purchase this grater online with your groceries which is what I did but it I also available in store and it will cost you the small price of 74 pence as it is part of their value range. It does not look like much but them is any grater really stylish it is a simple design with the main grater being rather small and then a black plastic handle at the top for you to hold while grating.
Overall it is rather sturdy the handle could have been a little thicker as it does become uncomfortable to hold after a while and as it is not free standing you need to be careful as holding it upright and grating without the grater slipping in your hands and falling can be a challenge.
It has 3 ways to grate the items there is a small medium and large grooves in the grater meaning you can choose what size you want the cheese cut. I do find it is only good with cheese if I am trying to grate anything stronger like carrots it can be really hard and take forever to grate and this was the main reason I replaced it. Also he sections for each size of grating are tine it is really hard to grate a large amount at once as the sections are simply too small it is a nice idea to hose how you would like to grate something but it is just not practical as the size of the grater itself is tiny so to divide this into three separate sections was not a good idea.
When you grate the cheese rather than it falling freely from the grater I find it just gathers on the grater and you have to keep prising it out to continue or it gets all clogged up. Also it is difficult to clean especially the smaller section of the grater the cheese gets stuck in it and can take some time to make sure it is fully clean but I do find my new grater is also difficult to clean but as the chesses actually falls from the grater rather than getting stuck it is a little easier.
I actually hated this product it was uncomfortable to use the sections are small for large amount of food and it can no grate anything but cheese well and within 3 weeks of use I replaced with a triangle grater as I find these work much better i would be ok for someone on a budget but personally I hated it.
Usually I love value products from Tesco but this really is shoddy and I would advise you to pay a little more for something more practical and that can function well in your kitchen this would be fine for someone coking for one or two people but for a family it is useless.
Although I don't use a Grater all that much I do need one in the house as you just never know do you. I have seen more expensive Graters in my local Department store but I don't see the point in paying over the odds for something just for me to grate some Cheese now and again so this one has done me a few years already and is still looking alright and I think it will still do me a while longer.
This only has the Grating part on 1 side but this is easy enough to use and there is 2 different sizes on the side so you can either have a small fine grating or a bit larger. There is the handle on the top which makes this easy to hold while you are grating and I don't find that this moves all over when I am trying to Grate either.
The 2 parts for grating qill give you small Crumb like bits of cheese and the larger Flake kind of bits which is the 1 that I tend to use it on.
I think I only paid around 70p for the Grater which I think was a great price for such a tool.
Any bad things about this Grater? yes. The 2 different sections aren't all that large and I have used a different Grater than this which stands on it's own and 1 side of each side of the grater is a certain size so you can just drag whatever it is you want to Grate down the whole side of the Grater. So it is a bit harder to grate since you can only drag down a small section.
This is a good enough Grater and is cheap. It perhaps won't be that easy to use for some people but it does for the amount that I have to use it.
I bought this as a spare grater, mainly for use in the caravan whilst travelling.
The grater is designed to be stood up to use, this means that you have to keep the grater raised with one hand and grate with the other hand. This can sometimes become a little uncomfortable. I much prefer electric graters that don't need two hands to be used. Plus there's not much room on the actual grater so you have to grate extra fast which is a little annoying. There should have been just the one section on the grater (a larger section) instead of the three smaller sections. I suppose it's not bad for a spare though and it did cost under a pound so I can't complain really.
You don't have to just grate cheese on this. You can also use this grater to grate vegetables, perfect for stews and soups. The grater is also easy to store due to it's small compact size. The silver colour also fits well with kitchen appliances and the grater itself is sturdy and durable. You can grate thin or thick "slices" of cheese and you can slice the cheese lengthways via the middle section of the grater. The grater works well to grate all types of cheese and/ or vegetables and it's quick and easy to use. I just wish it was more comfortable to use and I hate having to stand it up myself during use, leading to aching fingers and hands. However, the results are worth it. Carrots slice well on here, aswell as courgettes and leeks.
Not bad for the price though and it's a worthwhile purchase.
I picked up this Tesco Value Grater when I first moved into my house, we didn't have a lot of money so we decided we would buy cheaper things for around the house while we were getting our act together and decorating.
This is a flat grater that is quite surprisingly sturdy, especially because it was quite cheap to buy. It has 3 different grating areas so you can grate cheese or vegetables either really fine, thicker or in bigger slices.
I found that I didn't really like this grater because each grating section isn't that big, so if you are needing to grate a large amount of cheese or carrots etc. It can be really sore on your hand and I found that if I was grating a block of cheese, it was quite uncomfortable.
Also the handle on this grater is quite annoying, I find that when I use it, that it slips quite easily, this can be make it much slower to grate cheese or carrots, I find that I much prefer graters that stand alone, as they are much easier and more comfortable to use when you are grating a lot of cheese. I have since bought a sturdier pyramid style grater and am much happier with it, however, this was a cheap little grater and at the time was a little life saver when we had less money to spend on things in the house, so it was still a good buy.
I bought this Tesco Value Grater for just 74p in Tesco, which is a great price for someone on a budget, it was a little life saver at the time when we bought it, but I am really glad we have since bought a more sturdy grater as I this one didn't really suit our needs.
Overall I think that this is a good little grater, it is cheap and it does its job well, however it is a little uncomfortable to use and I was glad to get a new one that isn't flat and is easier used as this one was a little awkward. Overall I would give this 3 out of 5 stars. I would recommend it, but only if you are buying on a budget.

=== The product ===
This is a flat cheese grater from the Tesco Value range. This has two different sized grater areas and an area in the middle of the larger and small holes with a serrated edge which is designed to allow you to slice cheese and other items rather than just grate it.
=== The design ===
This is a flat plastic edged cheese grater with the metal grater part in the middle. The space of the handle is quite a generous size meaning it's suitable for either myself or my husband with his larger hands, however, this doesn't mean that the plastic handle is comfortable and after just a few minutes use this makes my hand feel uncomfortable and a little bit sore. It's more designed to be placed over a bowl so you can just hold it flat and rub the item you want to grate across it and catch all the gratings in a bowl.
=== Does it work? ===
Yes. I can grate cheese and vegetables quite well as the actual grating element of this works well.
=== Where can I buy this and for how much? ===
This is available for Tesco stores and I paid 75p for mine earlier this year, I cannot guarantee that this price is the same as I haven't obviously had to look for this in store for a while but I'm sure it won't have changed by much, if at all. These types of things are probably readily available all year round and I never noticed it on special offer before I purchased mine.
=== My overall opinion ===
This isn't bad at all for the money paid. I think that while this isn't the best design for a grater it's not so bad either. As I mentioned above it's probably best used over a bowl and this is often what I do when grating cheese or carrots which same to be the main things I'm using this for.
I like that there is three different options for grating and this does tend to cover most of the options that I need, apart from when grating nutmeg or chocolate when I use a smaller mini grater that covers this job perfectly. The larger one is ideal for cheese and I use the smaller size holes for grating vegetables that are going in to sauces or in the slow cooker. I don't like lots of vegetables much so I grate them right down so I can barely notice the taste of them when mixed in my home-made sauces.
I think the design of this is very simple and although the handle isn't very comfortable I'm usually only needing to use this for a few minutes at a time so it's not too much of an inconvenience. Also, the main benefit of buying this, for me, was that I didn't have to worry about handles falling off as keeps happening with those pyramid and box shaped ones that we've seemingly burnt through over the last couple of years.
I would say that this isn't the most sturdy cheese grater but we have been using this, very successfully, for a few months now and it doesn't show any signs of wear and tear. It's easy enough to clean, I just soak mine in warm water with my other washing up and then wipe it sideways with a sponge, this always removes dried on food and I have had no problems keeping this as clean as when I first purchased it. I feel that this has been 75p very well spent as it makes light work of grating and while it's a little uncomfortable it works well at it's job and it's for these reasons I am giving this 4/5.
