“ Brand: Other Brands / Product Type: Food Box „
Small pots and containers suitable for the freezer and microwave are something I am often on the look out for, I have purchased many packs from pound stores in the past or save various containers that other food has come in and gradually over time they have split or developed holes and have had to be thrown away. I recently was looking for a container to freeze some leftovers in only to discover that I had totally run out and had to improvise, it was time to have a hunt around for some new containers. As I knew I wouldn't be going into town I decided to have a look online to see if I could get a bargain or even just something suitable to keep me going for a while, that was when I came across the Rice 12 Mini Plastic Food Boxes. I have to admit I was drawn in by the pretty colours but after reading the description about them they seemed ideal for what I needed, they were a little more expensive that what I would normally buy but I was hoping that by spending out a bit more money on them they would last a bit longer.
When my Rice Plastic Food Containers arrived the containers themselves were all stored in a white net type bag with a plastic tab at the top, and from what I can remember there was a small label with the name of the product and manufacturer on, the bag didn't actually serve any purpose other than to keep all of containers together inside the box they came in, I actually threw this away once I had taken the containers out of it as I had to cut it to open it.
Inside the bag you received 12 small plastic containers, these are rectangle, round and square and each come with their own lid. Each container is made from a sturdy brightly coloured plastic, as are the lids, the containers come so that each lid does not match the colour of the pot it is on, for example the bright blue container has a bright orange lid and the orange container has a blue lid, this is the case for all 12 containers, however you can mix and match the lids and containers as you like. The Rice Mini Plastic Containers are of a reasonable size and measure 7cm length, 6cm width and 4cm height, they are designed to hold 70ml comfortably, for me the sizes of these containers are ideal as they are not so big that they take up loads of room in your fridge or freezer, also they fit easily in the microwave to allow you to heat food up. When I received the Rice Plastic Containers I was pleased to discover that the plastic they are made from is reasonably sturdy, they are flexible but at the same time strong meaning that after being put in the freezer and microwave on numerous occasions the plastic will not become brittle and break or crack, again this is a problem I have had in the past with various plastic containers I have saved.
The Rice Mini Plastic Food boxes have a variety of uses you can use them in the fridge or freezer to store leftovers or even put them in the microwave to heat up various foods, the containers are also dishwasher safe, however they do recommend that they are placed on he top shelf, although this doesn't affect us as we do not have a dishwasher, but its handy to know if you do. I particularly like the square and rectangle pots for storing foods in the freezer as I find that they fit side by side and on top of each other nicely. The Rice Plastic Food Boxes can also be used in lunch boxes, children would particularly like these due to their bright colourful appearance, you could even use the pots to store things in around the house, although they are called food boxes there is no reason why they cannot be used to store things other than food, personally I do only use mine in the kitchen for food, however I would certainly consider using these else where in the house should the need arise.
I came across my Rice 12 Mini Plastic Food Boxes on a website called nettlegreen.co.uk, I came across them by chance and this is not a website I have heard of before, the 12 food boxes cost me £6.25, this is a lot more than I would normally pay out for this type of product but I was hoping that they containers would last me longer. So far the food boxes are proving to be long lasting and hardwearing and none of them so far are showing any signs of wear and tear despite being used on numerous occasions. I do not think I would keep paying out this amount of money for food containers but as a one off to get some good quality ones I was happy to pay this price.
Overall I would definitely recommend the Rice Mini Plastic Food Boxes, all parts of each containers are food grade safe so they are perfectly ok to use in the kitchen. They have a variety of uses and can be used in the fridge, freezer and microwave and can be cleaned in the dishwasher if you have one. In my opinion the containers are made from a strong plastic which so far is proving to be hardwearing and strong making the containers long lasting. So far I have been very pleased with my Rice Mini Plastic Food Boxes, they have been extremely useful in my kitchen and have been able to be used in a variety of situations, for me the only disadvantage is maybe the price, however so far I feel I am getting my moneys worth from them. This is certainly a product I would recommend.
Rice Mini Food Boxes:
I love baking and had been looking for some time for something small to store cake decorations in. When I saw these mini food boxes made by Danish company, Rice I couldn't resist buying them there and then even though I knew that the shop I was in was expensive and I could probably get them cheaper elsewhere.
The boxes come in a little plastic "net"which contains 12 boxes/tubs; I choose the heart-shaped selection and I have a mixture of purple, pink, red and orange heart-shaped tubs with matching lids. Obviously you can mix and match the bottoms with the lids if you feel so inclined. They also had a flower selection and a mixed bag that contained flowers, squares and round ones if I remember rightly. Both the flowers and the mixed bag have more subtle colouring than the heart shaped ones I choose.
The capacity is around 70ml which is teeny so they are perfect for what I wanted them for and it makes a world of difference to have my cake toppings in tubs big enough for pick out individual decorations or to take a "pinch" of something to sprinkle. Being a crafty type I am always tempted to nab some of these for buttons, sequins etc. but I have managed to be good so far and have left them in the kitchen.
The plastic that the bottoms are made out of is rigid and sturdy and the lids are sort of rubbery which makes them easy to take off and put on. Once the lid is on it seems both air and moisture tight.
Because the set I chose are all one shape it allows them to be stacked easily but with the mixed bag it would be a little harder but these are so small that they barely take up any space anyway.
I could go on to list about a million uses for these handy little tubs but I won't; I'm sure if see/buy some you will be able to think of many uses.
I paid £5.95 for my set in a little boutique type place in Clifton, Bristol and after having a glance around online I realise I didn't pay that much over the odds; Amazon is stocking them (as well some super-cute car shaped ones) for £5.50 with free delivery and they seem to be on sale for anywhere between £5.50 and £9.99.
If you are need of small, pretty, hard-wearing storage than you can't go far wrong with a set of these.
If you are looking for something to pep up children's lunch boxes or store leftovers then these little mini boxes from Rice are ideal. They come in three different shapes; a square, rectangle and a five petalled flower and, as you can see from the photo, come in varied colours so you can mix and match the boxes and lids. They are really quite teeny, having a 70ml capacity and being about 6cm wide and 4cm high. They are freezer, dishwasher and food safe and are much used in my house, making them well worth the £6.25 I paid for them.
I find the boxes are perfect to hold a few grapes or chunks of cheese or even for taking on picnics to hold a small amount of butter or humus. Clearly you can't fit anything very big in them but for small snacks they are perfect. Due to their general cuteness and usefulness, several of the boxes have been requisitioned by my children to hold teeny Lego pieces and to hold their varied "treasures". The lids fit on snugly on all three shapes and are easily removed by children. Unlike cheaper storage boxes they don't seem to be prone to leaking, cracking or getting discoloured in the dishwasher, we've had them a while and they are as good as the day that we bought them.
If you need something slightly bigger Rice, a Danish home ware company, do make a set of slightly bigger boxes, but I find this set pretty indispensable really, though it might be more practical storage wise if they were all the same shape I love the different shapes, especially the little flower, and with their bright colours they can't fail to cheer you up, they really are very, very cute. I would really recommend these boxes, like other products in the Rice range they are well made, a little bit different, and something that I enjoy having in my kitchen.
