      Annabel Karmel large bowl pack

Annabel Karmel is probably the queen of baby food and weaning knowledge and we have been using her books and products in our house for a number of years now. One of the products that I have found very useful is her range of feeding equipment which she has obviously developed and used on babies because it is well thought out and is really useful compared to just regular spoons/bowls etc. According to her website, "The Annabel Karmel Weaning Range is innovative and practical and helps babies progress from first tastes to feeding themselves. As your child gets older, it is important to encourage them to be a part of family meal times with their own personal place setting!" One of the packs we bought was her large bowl pack. I found this pack useful in a number of ways. The pack contains 1 bowl, 1 finger food tray and 1 spoon. THe first thing I found useful about these is that they re made of plastic. Obviously all baby products like this are made of plastic but to me its a necessity, I can't tell you the number of times that my little boy and little girl in the past grabbed hold of the bowl as I was feeding them and literally yanked it out of my hand and then dropped it on the floor. Being plastic the bowl just bounces which is good as if it was china it would have smashed so being plastic is a great advantage although the food does go everywhere, all up the walls, on the table etc! This bowl is made of a red plastic so its a nice colour and looks quite stylish and is made using Polypropelene (PP), meaning material is Bisphonel A (BPA) free. The bowl is quite deep which I like as when you are ready to let your baby feed themselves the food has a better chance of staying in the bowl than if you have a shallow bowl. When you are still feeding yourself though there is a nice little tab on the side of the bowl which you can hook your finger under to allow you to hold the bowl easily. The bowl also has a lid which I think is invaluable. Often I blend up food for my little boy and need somewhere to store the left overs that I can then take out the next day for lunch if we are going on a day trip. To be able to take the food out in a secure container and then have a bowl already there to serve it in is great. The pack also contains another bowl which has different compartments in it which is good for putting different bits of food in it such a carrots stick in one area, fruit in the other etc to give your child a balanced meal and they have it separated for them. The bowls have non slip bases which is good in theory but if a child wants to throw a bowl from their highchair they will and no amount of non-slip bases will stop them but for just little knocks and moving it out of the way the bowl stays put nicely. The bowls are dishwasher, microwave and freezer safe which is good as I have used it in all these different areas and the bowls are still performing well. The spoon is great too. I have a number of Annabel Karmel spoons which are really good for feeding as they have long handles which are perfect for reaching into a babies little mouth and are made of a bendy plastic so you can scoop up the food and put it into a mouth easily too. This is a great little set, perfect for feeding, travel and mealtime.
