I have an Ipad and an Iphone which I use for writing emails and penning out some reviews for my favourite review sites. I bought the Logitech keyboard for the ipad as it was really cheap on eBay and it seemed like a good solution to be able to use my ipad more like a netbook. As much as I love the ipad, it is much easier to write on a keypad than on the touch screen; especially for long pieces. Laptops and netbooks are certainly not the future any more and tablets are. You can also buy a similar version for a Windows or Android tablet. The ipad specific one has dedicated function buttons such as home and media functions which are not compatible with anything other than an iPad.
==Price and availability==
You can buy it from online shops such as eBay for a really good price of £25.00 or you can buy it from computer stores such as Currys and PC World. PC World have it priced at £34.00.
The keyboard comes in a case which is black and hard plastic, this case also duplicates as a stand for the iPad and a small blue sections folds out for you to lean the iPad on. The overall weight of the keyboard in the case is slightly heavier than you would have anticipated but I still think the keyboard is fine for travel. The case makes it extremely portable. When the stand is constructed, you will notice that the blue lever is quite flimsy and feels very weak. I certainly avoid being too rough with it but this a small point and I would rather have a flimsy case than a flimsy keyboard. Once you have the keyboard out, it looks good quality and well built. You can set the stand to have various degrees of viewing angle and you can find really comfortable ways to have the iPad so you have the best possible viewing experience. You can have the iPad landscape or portrait and this is the same for the iphone. You can set the keyboard up in front and you are ready to go. The keyboard keys are well spaced and indeed it is a full sized keyboard that is easy to use. The keys are slightly rubbery and I much prefer keys like this than clicky little hard keys. The keys are easy to push without being overly sensitive.
The keyboard runs on 4 AAA batteries which are extremely long lasting and you get at least 6 months of casual use out of them. I much prefer this slim version of a keyboard and it really is ultra slim. The downside to the keyboard is that there is no ability to set it on incline. I get sore wrists from holding my hands at certain angles so the ability to tilt the keyboard would have been a massive advantage.
The keyboard runs on Bluetooth so when you set the ipad or iphone up you need to have this function turned on. The keyboard will be found by the device and then it is easy to sync the two devices, these is a connection button under the keyboard on the right to pair the keyboard to a new device. If you need to reconnect the keyboard then holding this button can assist you in this. The keyboard needs to be less than 30ft away which is a great distance and I have only had a couple of occasions where the Bluetooth 'drops out' this can be after prolonged use and I do not put it down to the quality of the keyboard. On the whole, connectivity is really superb and if you do lose connectivity you can unpair and repair with ease and use the connect button to link the two devices. I have no problems here at all and it takes less than a minute to sync a new device.
I like the way the keyboard can be turned off to save power and I much prefer battery power to mains supply. I wanted a wireless device and this certainly met the criteria.
On the whole, I much prefer the style and layout of this keyboard to anything that Apple have made. (I especially like the price) It is really good quality and reasonable for the money. Worth a mention are the function keys for media control, volume and lock these come in really useful and you can tell that Logitech have really thought about the keyboard.
There are a couple of things I would change for example, I would like to be able to set the keyboard on an incline and I would like the case to be a tad more hardwearing. I would probably make the keyboard slightly lighter but I much prefer a sturdy constructed item to a flimsy one. I like the way the keyboard comes with a case as this makes it perfect for throwing in a bag and travelling with it. There are keyboard cases which double up as a case and a keyboard but they are always just a little bit too small. This keyboard is larger than tha ipad itself and although it is no where near a full sized keyboard, it is certainly much easier to use and I can quite happily type for long periods of time on it. I would certainly recommend it, especially for the price. It is a good quality keyboard for the money and running on AAA batteries makes it extremely portable without it being a huge drain on power. The off button makes sure you can control the power to the keyboard and not accidently have it turned on wasting electricity.
The keyboard is lightweight, versatile, and easygoing. This keyboard-and-stand combo is designed to travel easily, set up quickly and add a touch of convenience to all the places you use your iPad.
