      Disadvantages

Simple, white, plastic kettle easy to install and use, a little slower on the boil.

Moving into your first place with someone is supposed to be exciting, getting your own freedom, all the new or new to you (second-hand) furniture and appliances. For someone who is more of a saver than a spender this proved more difficult, especially when you like everything to match. A Kettle is one of the essential items on most peoples list, although we don't regularly use one ourselves, it is always polite to offer your guests a hot drink and they come in useful for other things. DESIGN AND PRICE We came across this simple, plastic, white, cordless Jug Kettle (JK2) in Tesco, we only had a limited amount of kitchen space, so this being 23.5cm in height, 13.5cm Width, 19.5cm Depth and only weighing 0.8 Kilograms and having a price tag of just £6, earning us 6 Tesco Clubcard points (Every little helps) this was ideal. This kettle has a lime scale filter in the spout and also includes a level indicator, which is viewable when picked up with your right hand, which makes this a right handed kettle. POWER AND CAPACITY The kettle takes quite a while to boil with it only having a 2.2 kW power, but holds a fair amount of 8 cups at its maximum, holding 1.7 litres but being plastic it doesn't get very hot on the outside compared to other kettles, but it does make it a bit tougher to clean. On a plus side this kettle has a good sized handle which makes it easy to grip, being easy to use with the one on and off switch located under the handle, and an easy push button, flip lid to make it easy to fill and clean the kettle. INSTALLATION Taking the kettle out of the Tesco's own brand, white box with the image of the product on the front, you just plug in the short corded, base unit and sit the kettle on top. It is always advised when buying any new kettle to fill it with water and boil it once before use. RECOMMENDATION I would recommend this kettle, it doesn't make too much noise, I would say average like any other kettle and it lasted us over a year, before we decided to replace it, so nothing went wrong with the kettle itself, we just wanted a sleeker, faster boiling kettle, but for £6 this was perfect for what we needed it for.

        It's a kettle

First of all, this is a Tesco Value kettle so lower your expectations, it isn't going to last ten years like some kettles but it will boil your water for a quick brew. Quite appropriately, I am currently brewing a pot right now using this kettle. ===Appearance=== In a white kitchen, this will look like a fairly sleek decent but low cost kettle. There are no logos on this kettle or anything like that but it is a plain, fairly ergonomical looking kettle. ===Use=== Filling the kettle is well filling a kettle, you lift the lid and pour water in from the tap. It does seem to me to be a fairly slow kettle for boiling water, so much so that I will walk away and come back in 5 minutes when I am certain that it will be boiled. For some this may be an issue, for me it is a minor inconvenience. ===Price=== You can pick this kettle up for around £5-£10. This is definitely in the budget range and for this price, you can make tea or whatever you fancy for twelve months most likely before you experience any issues. ===Reliability=== My current version of this kettle is my second version however with both kettles after several months of use, it has started to leak when pouring boiling water out of it. I think this is a design flaw with a slightly loose lid which seems to leak water. This can lead to burning yourself so be careful and get a new kettle when this occurs, especially if still under warranty. ===Conclusion=== A decent useable kettle but don't expect it to last your lifetime. At the end of the day, it's a kettle.... and it works.

        -

In my new student accommodation, along with the Tesco microwave that I have previously reviewed, came this Tesco kettle. Another cheap addition to our kitchen that is currently falling apart. However, this product is one of the few things in this flat that hasn't completely disappointed me. And being such a huge lover of tea and coffee that is a major relief. Again, just like the microwave, I didn't personally pick this kettle; however, I would have chosen something just as cheap. I don't really care how fancy my kitchen looks or how quickly and quietly it's going to boil. If it does the job then why spent so much more? To open the kettle, you just lift the flap at the top and to close just click it back down. This seems sturdy enough and can't see it falling off any time soon. The on switch is at the top of the handle which just needs to be pressed down which lights the kettle up to show you its boiling. It takes hardly anytime at all to boil, depending on whether you've been sensible with how many cups you put it. It's a plastic kettle so may not last as long as a metal one and I can't see it lasting the whole year with the amount of people in my flat (especially when some people think it's a good idea to heat their soup up in it) but for now, it does a decent enough job. For anyone who doesn't really mind how fancy there kettle looks and just needs something cheap then this is the product for you!

An excellent kettle for the price

I purchased this kettle about 4 months ago now as my boyfriend's family lives down south and his family live in a hard water area. We live in Manchester so go and visit throughout the year. Their kettle is always so full of limescale I really don't like using it to make my baby's bottles up! He is only 6 months old and the water is always cloudy with floating white bits! So I decided to purchase just a simple and cheap kettle, which I could put bottled water in to boil, to make my son's bottles whilst down there. I wanted something so cheap, as we only go down for a week about 5-6 times a year, so did not want to spend a lot of money, so for £6 in Tesco, this was just what I was looking for. I cannot fault this kettle for the price, I would be happy to use it always in my kitchen at home, there is nothing wrong with it! It may not look modern or expensive, it is just simple, basic and white, but works perfectly well. It has a 1.7 litre capacity, and as I only boil 200ml a time for his bottle, this is more than big enough! It is plastic and so lightweight, it does feel a bit cheap and basic but this doesn't bother me, it isn't on display so it doesn't matter. You can clearly see how much water is in there, which I like the idea of, as my kettle at home I am always boiling way too much water as I can't see how much I'm putting in it! It has a clear strip so you can see the water level in there. It isn't too hot to touch either once boiled, like my stainless steel one is at home. It isn't too noisy, and boils just as quick as a dearer one too. You can fill it up by pouring water into the spout, or you can lift the lid up on the top which is a bit quicker. The spout has a limescale filter in it too. I would definitely buy another of these kettles, even if it gives up after 12 months, I would purchase again for what I use it for, I have no complaints about it, it always works, although not used yet for long, but when it is used the weeks I am down south, its on and off all day and is reliable every time.

Good kettle for a student / first house or for having a spare.

I bought this style of Tesco Value kettle for university 7 years ago and it's still working!! I think mine must have been a super kettle because I know other people who said it had died after about 12 months. It cost £4.99 (clubcard points too) which is perfect for student/rooms to let, or for a spare kettle. It doesn't seem to boil any slower than other kettles, and has a good capacity (I can boil enough water for a full saucepan for rice, pasta, potatoes etc). I know better and more expensive branded kettles that have broken long before mine, such as Breville. You can lift the kettle off the base so it's portable once boiled, which makes it really useful in the kitchen and even carrying outside to de-ice the car windscreen (just make sure the water hasn't just boiled as it may crack!). It's just a bit boring to look at, but if you want something basic and cheap and don't mind the colour then it's fine. The lid is a little bit delicate - if you push it down too hard it does feel like it may break, so just be careful. Also, as with any kettle, make sure the element doesn't get covered in limescale, there are plenty of cheap cleaners out there that will work with just one full kettle boil.

          Disadvantages

Great kettle for the price. Would definitely recommend it.

When we moved into our new flat, we needed some cheap kitchen stuff so headed to Tesco to see what they had to offer. At just a fiver, this kettle caught my eye and we decided to buy it. Having just had the expense of moving, we decided we didn't want to be spending too much and hoped that this kettle would do the job. The kettle itself is made of white plastic and has a rounded body with a clear plastic bit so you can see how much water is in the kettle. It's a cordless kettle which is great for the price, but the cable between the stand and the plug is quite short, which in our small kitchen is no problem to us. The on/off switch seems pretty sturdy and lights up when the kettle is turned on. We've been using the kettle daily for 18 months now and it's still going strong. The only problem is that it's developed a leak when pouring so when pouring hot water into a mug for a cup of tea, the kitchen side gets a bit wet too. We can't see any cracks or anything so assume it must just be that the lid isn't quite as tightly sealed as it was when we bought it. Overall I'd definitely recommend this kettle. It boils water, doesn't look too shabby and is very cheap. When it packs in, I'll definitely be heading back to Tesco to buy the exact same kettle again.

Ane xcellent kettle with amazing value for money!! with just a simple design.

I've had regular use with this kettle in our common room. Using it along with other students several times throughout the day for the past 6 weeks and its a life saver. Being a massive improvement to our common room this year and helping us keep "switched on" during those long days. Appearance: Its never really stood out or had that wow factor and eye catching apeal. However its discret and simple. Boasting a sleek plain white design with a small glossy finish makes it fit with any room style with or colour. Having this white finish also makes it extremly easy to wipe clean. It comes with a flowing handle built into the main body of the kettle which has a seamless design but comfortable fit. Although if you have bigger hands it can be a little bit of a tight squeze. When using the kettle straight after boiling the handle can become a little warm but nothing uncomfortable and is completely safe. The fatness of the handle allows for a good tight grip so you can pour away with ease without fear of dropping the kettle even if its cheekly been filled past the max level. To begin the boiling process you simply flick the metal switch beneath the handle and off it goes. However there are no lights or flashing timers to make him stand out or a small alarm to tell you its boiled. There's a small plastic window on each side so you can see how much water you've got in there or incase you want to watch the bubbles as it boils. Depending on how big your cups are we've normally got around 3 full cups just on the minium level alone! The Features: The kettle is cordless! So its perfect for us students who need to move it and pass it around the kitchen side to allow everyone full use. However because its a value kettle the base has a white connector which must be properly alligned in order to boil the kettle. This can be fiddly and annoying when you have a full kettle to boil. It averages around 2 minutes normally to boil and this has been consistant from when we first started using it. So its life span has been amazing as its still good as new for the price it retails at. Overall: Its a massivily underated product and is one of the biggest values of money i have ever seen. It might lack a little in the fancy lights but a simple design is all you need for this product because it gets the job done. Holding a good amount of water to keep those cuppas comming. -Finding the product- I wanted to take a look at the packaging so i poped along to tesco to have a look. It comes in simple cardboard box with only a picture of the the kttle and the Value symbol, In store its very easy to find and is at a very easy size to carry and take home.

            Great inexpensive kettle.

We purchased this kettle after we had two more expensive kettles blow up on us within a year! We decided on this kettle has it was only £4 in Tesco and we figured if it lasted a few months it would have done better than more expensive kettles we have had and at £4 it was worth the gamble. Its a basic kettle, clear panel to show how much is holds, it claims to hold 6 mugs however we must have extra large mugs as we can only fill 4 with it. It takes about 2 minutes to boil enough water for one mug and about 5 minutes if its full...beware of filling it too much though because it does spill over the spout when it is boiling, we have to fill it to the line below the max line to prevent this happening. With it being plain white it would probably fit in with most kitchens. At £4 it is ideal if you are on a budget or not bothered about your kettle doing sixteen different jobs, there's nothing wrong with a kettle that is just a kettle. It boils water. Simple.

Excellent value for money, does exactly what it says on the box with no frills.

Last year the kettle in our caravan blew up and we had to get another one in a bit of a rush whilst we were away on our holidays. We went to the nearest supermarket and literally picked up the cheapest kettle we could find baring in mind that we would only use this kettle whilst on holiday. So this kettle was in it's usual blue and white striped Tesco Value box with no frills. It looked simple and basic, ideal for what we needed it for. It clearly states that it is a cordless kettle and has a total capacity of 1.7 litres. It came very well packaged and was white in colour. It didn't take is long to set the kettle up and we were very surprised to feel how sturdy it was considering it was the cheapest of the cheap. It also has a handy limescale filter which is very easy to remove and clean when the need arises. You know exactly how much water you're pouring into the kettle as this can be viewed very easily to the left of the jug where you'll observe a filing gauge. I usually put enough water in to make 3 large mugs of tea or coffee and this process takes about 2 minutes to boil the water. There are no LED lights on it to indicate whether the water has boiled or not, but it will switch off automatically when the water has boiled. This kettle is very easier to clean, more so than our brushed steel one in our home kitchen. As with most kettle bases it comes with little rubber feet that are very effective. We must have used this little kettle approximately 50 times now and it's still going strong. I'd recommend it to anyone who needs it for camping and for those on a low budget such as a student. Purchased from Tesco for £6 last year in 2011

This is a good kettle for less than £6

WHAT IS IT? A white plastic jug kettle that is available from Tesco stores. It is a Value kettle that costs only £6 and holds 1.7 litres of water. THE DESIGN My kettle is identical to the one in the photograph above. It does not look like it is very cheap but is not stylish like most modern kettles. The window where you can see the water level is very large and the switch to boil the kettle is too long and looks wrong. WHAT I THINK I bought this kettle to use while we were staying with friends who use a hob top kettle. I think this takes too long and I need boiling water quicker because I have a young baby, they didn't mind me bringing an electric kettle but I bought this instead of carrying my home kettle. It boils quickly and is quiet. It is very quiet when it switches off so you need to listen out if you need water that is fresh off the boil. It pours smoothly but if you tip the kettle up too much it slops out of the spout and that is dangerous. The handle is comfortable to hold and I never feel that it's going to slip out of my hand. There is a small triangular filter behind the spout but I don't think this is very effective because it is so small and the holes are so big. I think it is supposed to come out so you can clean it but I cannot get mine out. It is very good for the price and I recommend it if money is tight or as a spare kettle. 4 Dooyoo Stars.

              Good value, basic, reliable kettle

It's a kettle. It boils water. All the way up to 100 degrees centigrade. Excellent for making tea and coffee. This no-frills review denotes the basic nature of this product. It is not the most stylish of kettles to look at but it's sturdy enough and the design is inoffensive, so it wouldn't look out of place in most kitchens. More importantly (in my opinion) than how it looks, it does the job perfectly well. Available for £5.99, I have had no reliability issues with this product so far in the 5 months since I bought it, so I would say that it represents excellent value for money. With a capacity of 1.7 litres, it is big enough to cope if you have friends or family round, and the water level indicator shows how many cups you can make - although personally I found these a little misleading as the design of this scale must be for extremely small cups! If you want something that looks a bit smarter then perhaps shop around (although you will almost certainly have to pay more). If you are looking for a cheap and cheerful basic kettle which doesn't break down (touch wood!), you can't go far wrong with this product.

We bought this kettle at work out of our tea kitty and it only set us back a mear £6 ish i think (we spend more than that on biscuits!) the kettle boils quickly enough and the capacity is adequate for our team of 5 so overall we are very happy with our cheap and cheerful purchase. The design is simple enough to go with any colour scheme or kitchen designs although it is clearly not the most striking or advanced kettle on the market, it is in offensive and does the job. I dont think it stands out as looking particuarly cheap. The spout pours the water steadily and the lid opens easily and wide enough to fill from either your tap or geezer. The kettle is easily wiped clean and no sign of limescale as yet which is a real bug bear of mine so overall a good little buy. also on ciao

                  You see what you get

I've has several experiences with this kettle, we had one in our sixth form common room, my sister bought one to take to university and the family also invested in one for electric camping trips. At just £5 this product has probably been purchased by a lot of people and if their experiences are anything like mine, they are probably now very pleased people. There isn't any wow factor about this product, its plain white and has only the basic function to boil water, so I wouldn't expect anything extra like you can get with more expensive and technology orientated kettles. On one hand I see the plainness of the kettle less than exciting, however on the other hand it means that it will go in pretty much any room without looking out of place. I think the kettle has been designed very well when it comes to the shape and ease of use. The handle has a very generous gap to fit larger hands and smaller hands without causing any discomfort and there is an indent on the lid of the kettle for easy pulling to top up the water. The spout is a good shape and its very rare for any water to spill out of the spout in the wrong direction when pouring. Like I said there is nothing special about this product it is the absolute basic of what you need out of a kettle, just designed with the consumer in mind. To use the kettle you literally plug it into the socket and take the kettle and fill it with water then plce it on the base and flick the switch. Realistically this kettle can boil enough for about 5 cups, the kettle claims it can do a little bit more but when we first tried to fill it to the maximum some of the water leaked out, not a lot just a little bit, but I tend not to do this any more as water and electrical s is enough to make anyone anxious. The kettle takes around 5-6minutes to boil a moderate amount of water which is fairly slow compared to our actual home kettle which does it in just a few minutes and filters the water! I think if you need a kettle with basic functions for a temporary home or occasion don't hesitate to buy this kettle, however if you're looking for something more permanent it may be worth investing in a kettle that is more high end and can perform at a higher speed and have a few more functions. Overall this is a nifty little kettle and for just £5 the pros definitely outweigh the cons!

                  great cheap kettle

This kettle is great, I don't know what more you'd want from one. Fill it up, switch it on and wait for the water to boil. In my opinion it not exactly a device worth spending tens of pounds on, especially since I bought it to go take to university halls of residence with me, so for a fiver this was perfect. It's a simple kettle, made of plain white plastic so it's not the greatest to look at or modern, but it will fit into most kitchens without drawing attention to itself and the plastic means it's easy to wipe clean if you splash something on it. The water heats up relatively quickly and the outside of the kettle doesn't get too hot. It doesn't light up or anything & the switch clicking to the off position can be quiet, so it can sometimes be hard to tell if the kettle has actually boiled - hard to hear switching off if you're out of the room or hard to see if you're in the kitchen but there's loud music or something being played. Like most modern kettles, it has a strip window to see how full it is and it switches off automatically once your water is hot. The exposed heating element is exposed so could lead to a build up of lime scale in hard water areas (I can't be sure though since I don't live in one). The kettle has the capacity for enough water (1.7 litres I believe it is) for a large saucepan, or two smaller ones, or for 6 or so cups of coffee/tea in one go, which is enough for me on my own for cooking or when my mates pop round in between lectures. I've had this kettle for a couple of years and it still heats up as quickly & efficiently as it did when I first bought it. I'd definitely recommend it!

This is what I want from a kettle: plug it in, put the water in, turn it on, wait for a little while, and now the water is hot. This does kettle does exactly that. It is a good price and does what it is supposed to, what more can you want? Yes, it's plastic. Yes, it's white. No, it's not pushing the frontiers of modern art. If you want something modern and fashionable to fit in with a designer kitchen, this obviously is not the kettle for you. Feel free to make a trip to John Lewis and pay £60 upwards something that's bright purple which unnecessary lights and shiny bits on it. Personally I can think of better things to spend money on. If you just want something cheap and straight forward to boil water then this will do you nicely! I have never had any issues with it at all.
