The most useful "charm" for Pandora bracelets fans, believe me!!! At first I too thought :" Why get this when I can use the money to buy a much more cute looking charm? This was until I almost lost all of my charms when the bracelet accidentally opened .
This is a "must have" if you want your Pandora bracelet to be safe. Think about it,you have safety, 2 in 1 charms at the price of 1 and it is really cute looking.
From the range of 5 safety chains that Pandora do, this seems to be the most popular amongst people I know who have the charm bracelets.
The chain itself comes in three sizes - 4cm, 5cm and 6cm, which correspond to the length of your bracelet. 4cm chains are roughly recommended for 16 to 19cm bracelets, 5cm are recommended for 20/21cm bracelets, and 6cm chains for 23cm bracelets.
It can be fitted by yourself, rather than some brands where you have to have it fitted by a member of staff in the shop. This makes it a great gift, and the different styles can be tried on to see which looks best with your combination of charms!
All of your charms must be removed, and one end of the safety chain will screw on - to sit next to the barrel clasp. After it has been screwed on then your charms can all be added again, followed by the other end of the safety chain.
The chain should stop the bracelet from falling from your hand when the clasp is open, so it is important to get the correct size for your hand and bracelet.
It sits either side of the clasp and is a lovely, delicate flower design to add to your collection.
Pandora silver products also come with a 1 year guarantee for manufacturing faults so there is no need to worry about catching the chain - they seem to be very strong and sturdy!
All in all a popular product to add that bit of added safety when fitted onto a charm bracelet.
Pandora have a range of safety chains, but this is by far my favourite. It teams up like two charms so a budget item for those hasty bracelet fillers. And not a standard plain either, a pretty flower engraving makes it that little bit more elegant, ain't that sweet?
The assembly is a little bit of hassle, especially for those with a full bracelet, every single charm has to come off for it to work. one part goes at the end and the other is screwed on over the last charm holding the bracelet together. It's very safe for a sudden unclipping of the catch but it does struggle at times when you go to close the bracelet. The end can clock where you need to clip the bracelet on and it can be fiddly.
In saying this, I don't have any harsh complaints, it looks well, the dangling chain adds to the aesthetics and it isn't rocket science to assemble. A delightful touch to an already stunning bracelet.
Highly recommended for full bracelets.
When I first got my Pandora bracelet I had never actually thought about buying a safety chain for it until my bracelet actually came loose and fell off my wrist one day, luckily I noticed and so didn't lose it. I actually had a problem with the clasp on the bracelet which I mentioned in my review of the actual Pandora bracelet itself. When pushing the clasp closed, if the end of the bracelet is not in the correct position inside the clasp then it will actually bend part of the metal, preventing it from closing properly after and making it easier to just open and then fall off. Pandora have since changed the design of the clasps and fixed mine for free regardless of how long I owned mine for because at the time it was common problem.
As I'm getting more and more charms now though the bracelet is worth quite a lot and the last thing I want to do is lose it. There are several safety chain charms available and whilst the term 'safety chain' may make you think they aren't like the standard charms you can get, they are actually quite similar. My bracelet is full of silver charms and so I opted for a silver safety chain as you can see in the image above, but there are gold ones available too, as well as silver ones with small gold parts on. The prices range from £40 up to £225. This particular one that I am reviewing costs £40, although it only cost me £35 at the time I purchased mine.
I really like the safety chain and when on the bracelet it actually looks like two extra charms, making it look more full! The chain dangling down also makes it stand out more I think, as I don't have many of the 'dangly' charms on my bracelet.
The charm screws on to the bracelet like all the other charms do, but you screw one on either end of the bracelet. If you already own a Pandora bracelet that is full or almost full, then I would recommend actually fitting the charm onto your bracelet first before purchasing to see if their is enough room left for it, as if the charm doesn't screw on all the way it will prevent you from being able to shut the clasp. My bracelet is not yet completely full so I do not have this problem, but when all the charms I do have work their way to one side of the bracelet it can prevent me from shutting it properly and I have to move the charms back around.
I have owned this safety chain for over a year now and the charm still looks just as good as it did when I first bought it. The flowers engraved into the charm do not collect any dirt and the silver is still very clean. The chain itself is also excellent quality and I have never felt like it was going to snap or come loose.
I recommend this charm to anyone who wishes to protect their bracelet from falling off their wrist easily, especially if it has a lot of charms on making it worth quite a lot. If you don;t have many charms but want to make your bracelet appear fuller, then it does a good job at that too as it actually adds 2 charms to your bracelet, as well as making it look pretty!
~~ Pandora Silver Flower Safety Chain ~~
When I became the lucky owner of a Pandora Starter Bracelet my intention was to only half fill it and as the bracelet began to fill I decided I needed a safety chain for added protection. There was a huge selection from which to choose and I eventually opted for the Silver Flower Safety Chain and this discusses my thoughts and experience.
The sterling silver link chain is available in lengths of 4, 5 and 6 cm with mine being 6 cm and is firmly connected on both sides by way of a sturdy link, which is attached to two rather eye-catching shiny charms that display a pretty flower pattern. What I adore about this, which gives it additional appeal is that each of the eight petals, which form each flower contain a darker inner section. On closer examination I am able to witness that each of the two charms are initially formed from what I believe to be oxidised silver and a length of shiny silver with the cut out flower motifs has been firmly placed on top. This creates an extremely appealing effect, which differs from all of the other charms that I own. The product bears the official authenticity markings Pandora namely, "S 925 ALE", which can be found on the inner section of one of the charms.
Each of the charms easily threaded onto my bracelet and when I initially purchased this chain I had only half filled my bracelet. A problem I continually experienced was that one charm would unthread itself and as a consequence, would fall part of the way down the bracelet. It was impossible to rethread it as if I did the other charm would unwind and vice versa. This puzzled me as I felt I was going mad as I simply could not get the chain to stay in the correct position. I spoke with a few people who also own safety chains for their Pandora bracelets and they were not experiencing the same problems. Consequently, I decided that I needed to fill the bracelet as in doing so the charm would have nowhere to fall once it unthreaded itself.
My bracelet is now full and the chain remain correctly screwed in place, but unfortunately, I am unable to fully thread it as the links to which the chain is attached will not correctly sit in place. For instance, if I fully thread the one side the link sticks up in the air whilst the other side sits neatly. I'm of the opinion that perhaps this is a manufacturing fault with this particular safety chain where perhaps there are too many threads contained within the core. However, this problem is neither here nor there as when the bracelet is worn the charms tend to settle themselves. The chain offers sufficient space for my hand to be slipped inside and I have the reassurance that my expensive bracelet is not going to slip off my wrist. I can see no signs of wear and tear despite the fact that my bracelet is regularly worn. In fact, the chain looks as good as new as I keep it clean with a specialist cleaning cloth that I obtained free of charge from my local Pandora stockist.
I would not recommend this charm if you are considering only half filling your bracelet, but if you decide to go ahead and fill it then I would recommend. However, for the reasons discussed above it loses one star from me. You can purchase this safety chain, reference 790385 from all Pandora stockists for £40.
I hope you found my review useful and thanks for reading.
