“ Video sharing website. Owned by Google. San Bruno, California. Users can upload, view and share video clips. YouTube was created in mid February 2005 by three former PayPal employees. YouTube uses Adobe Flash technology to display a wide variety of video content, including movie clips, TV clips and music videos, as well as amateur content such as videoblogging and short original videos. In October 2006, Google Inc. announced that it had reached a deal to acquire the company for US$1.65 billion in Google stock. The deal closed on November 13, 2006. „
Oh YouTube, I love you so dear! YouTube is a website where you can make videos, share videos, and watch videos! I love being on YouTube! It's a MUST DO daily thing for me! I've been on YouTube since 2009 waaaaaaaay long back, before Google had began owning it. In my opinion, Google is stupid for owning YouTube, YouTube was fine on it's own until they stepped in. But, YouTube is still the best place to enjoy your leisure time and laugh, become educated, or even shocked. YouTube has great potential of becoming the most used social sharing site in the universe! I was once a YouTuber, it was fun! I had made several videos and all but then Google stepped in, I was one of the many Hundreds that had their videos erased from the YouTube experience. Still, YouTube is the best thing that has happened to me. Most times I have a huge amount of stress stockpiled into my day and once I get home and hop onto YouTube, my day becomes bright and shiny like it was when I had awaken from my dreamworlds. I hope YouTube will last forever and ever so that my kids, grand kids, and their kids can last through this amazing website. (Now don't get me wrong guys, I love Google and all, but just as a search engine.)
I love this site. Not just as a filmmaker. But as a user. I like being able to find information, and have a good laugh! But, I don't like when I wanted to monitize my videos with Google Adsense, and got my Adsense Account suspended. I tried to get it back and they denied my claim. But, I now cannot apply for the Partners Program. I am very mad at YouTube. But that aside, I am really impressed. Google did a good job on this site. I also lie being able to watch my favorite YouTube channel, vlogbrothers! I would recommend this to people who want to get their message out, and get popular, or just tell a good story! I love the fact that I can review an app, and get a few hundred views in 2 months. I say you should go to watch videos! YouTube.com, Subscribe to the channel _______!
@ About, The layout / Ease of use @
YouTube has to be one of my favourite websites of all - You can watch almost anything and it's like amateur television, watching programmes that networks and TV companies wont broadcast. The website has a very easy to use layout and is updated constantly. You can also interact with others in multiple ways, although sometimes these are not effective. For example, when you post a comment on a video it can fly down the page because of the many other comments pilling in on top of it, and the fact that users can disable or block your comments means your opinion cannot be heard. The other thing that I don't like is that users have control over who rates their videos, the like and dislike bar can become useless if users stop you from voting on a video so spam and bad videos will appear and not be rated down for it.
YouTube is easy to use when it comes to watching and uploading videos though, because you can upload almost any video file and do so in a very convenient way - Just press upload from within your profile and get video from any device such as a computer, phone etc and it will just upload. YouTube have a very strict policy on copyright and do everything they can to stop copyright breaches, so you are not allowed to upload any copyrighted material, or your account will be banned.
@ Online community & videos @
Videos on YouTube have various categories but I think they need to be more specific with them - I find it very difficult to distinguish what comedy videos there are because every comedy video is under the same category, rather than what id prefer "Comedy - Stand up" or "Comedy - Animals" so for disorganisation alone ill have to knock off a star. Advertisements are a big problem that lots of people complain about on YouTube but then again, it's a free service and fair enough they need to make money - I think the fact that they allow you to skip ads after so many seconds is helpful though and a very good feature that I applaud.
The community is based on users profiles, and accounts. You can post on other peoples channels and send them private messages, which arrive almost instantly. The problem I have is the amount of abuse, because every video I go to there is bad language all over the place, not very nice things being said in the comments box and people generally making arguments and hatred for fun or the sake of it. YouTube does not seem to pick up on the bad language because it seems out of control; millions of bad language and hatred comments get posted every day and YouTube cant keep on top of it. It's a shame because it ruins the community side of the website.
@ Overall @
YouTube is still a fantastic video sharing site and I love the features, and quantity of free to view videos. Its all the stuff you wont see on TV.
Youtube has set the standard over the past couple of years for what the internet SHOULD be used for.
I.E. connecting with people
Making people laugh
Informaing people in a way thats fun and unique
Creating a fan base and getting yourself recognised
There are so many possibilities with youtube its unreal. If anyone on youtube is lucky enough to garner commited followers and good views on their videos they can become "youtube partners" which basically means that they can either get paid based on the viewing, likes and comment rates and also for having advertising on their youtube videos before it loads and having placed adverts to the right of the videos.
Some are lucky enough to gather regular viewers so that they claim a "youtube partner contract" which is basiclly the other alternative to becoming a "youtube partner" but there is more money involved. And i am not just talking the odd £10 here and there i am talking your job wages annually. It has been known by such people as sxcphil and ray william johnson that you can get paid HUGE sums of money of even over $100,00 which has had the most popular youtubers forget about having a regular job and focus on making money doing what they love and sharing their views and opinions with millions worldwide.
Youtube is truly a phenomonum and anyone that hasnt used it or even heard about it must have been hiding in the earths core for the past 5 years.
I can't even remember how I first knew about Youtube, or what I first viewed. I do know though that it is now one of the most popular videosharing websites on the internet. You know you've all heard of it. The idea behind the website is simple. It's a portal where users can upload their own videos and share them with others across the internet. There's a major variety of videos that can be seen, from songs, to film trailers, to interviews, to fan-made videos, videoblogging/vlogs and also the ability to watch tv shows and films via youtubes own section. Yep... that's pretty much everything. Furthermore this is a website which accepts videos from users all over the world.
Personally, I use Youtube a lot. Even if it's unintentional. For instance I was reading an online newspapers website and scrolling down I saw that if I wanted I could see the video of the article - where was this video located? Well.. Youtube ofcourse.
Before I found Youtube to be where I just stumbled across random videos whilst searching.. now however.. at times I also know what i'm looking for. Videoblogging/vlogs was something I never thought i'd be interested in watching.. and then I came across these users Charlie McDonnel (Youtube username: Charlieissocoollike) Alex Day (Nerimon) The Vlog Brothers and Michael Aranda. Who'd care what they were doing in there little worlds, I would have thought. But then you watch their videos and there funny, entertaining, insightful and often posting knowledgeable topics that you also learn from. They found a creative outlet through the website Youtube and we found some entertainment for a few minutes during the day.
There are many benefits to Youtube, it provides one of the easiest ways to get a message or video out there for many others to see. People in marketing recognise this and often approach users to stick some of their adverts mid-videos like you would see on the television. It's also one of the quickest ways in finding something you were looking for.. typing in lyrics to a song whose title you cannot remember often brings back the correct video.. or wanting to watch a video on a particular subject is also easily found. The website itself has a clear layout and is user-friendly. However, at times the website can also be seen to have disadvantages.
For instance go to any video and scroll down at the comments and someone or another will be throwing insults or being abusive. Sure you can report some of these users, but the chances of the negative comments ending on the website for good are slim. Often they just get lost in videos as the comments pile up and more comments arrive. You can also easily waste away more time then you wanted browsing youtube and then wonder where the afternoon went. Though at times it can also be a good boredom-killer.
Overall Youtube has changed how we see websites and is one that must be up there on the top ten visited internet sites of all time. At somepoint or another.. you will all go on youtube and look for that videoclip everyones talking about, that song you really feel like listening to, wanting to watch more clips of that comedian or someone-or-another.. or just to browse around. I give the website a 4/5 as there's always moments you feel you wasted away, you can come across videos you wish you'd rather not seen and there's always some petty comments around the site that are not required.
According to wikipedia, Youtube has bein around since 2005 and is owned by Google.
The main function of youtube is the ability to upload, share and view a huge variety of videos - quite like a viewable database of videos.
Anyone can join by simply clicking 'create account' in the top right corner. In the centre of the page is a seach bar, where you enter whatever you like, eg 'dancing panda'. If you're under the age of 18 you won't be able to watch videos that contain strong language or nudity. Ofcourse many people abuse the system and lie about there age to gain access to such content, though.
I find the site simple and well designed, with an area to catch up on the latest TV shows in your country, see the latest trends and most popular music, sport, entertainment and technology videos.
All videos vary in length, i think the maximum length is around 40 minutes. You are able to comment and rate the video you've chosen to watch and if other people like your comment they give it a 'thumbs up'.
You're able to subscribe to people, such as your favourite popstar, meaning you're alerted when they add a new video, and people can subscribe to you.
There's loads of good videos on youtube but some can be stupid, gross, and there's the odd occasion i've seen porn and animal abuse that hadn't bein removed. Once reported to youtube though they act swiftly in deleting it and banning the person who uploaded it.
Youtube is somewhat of an archive, with many clips of old and new films, adverts, memorable tv moments, funny stuff and loads more.
I'd reccomend it if you're bored and need something to cheer you up. There's some talented actors on there such as shane dawson, who's worth a watch!
The quality of the videos vary, mainly depending on what they've bein filmed on. Some are blurry and freeze while others, that have obviously bein recorded on HD cameras are amazingly clear.
Videos load quickly unless your computer itself is slow.
Music videos can also be watched aswell as ordinary people covering there favourite songs.
I'm sure most of you will already be fans of youtube, but if not, check it out!
Where would we be without Youtube? I know I would have had many more productive days than I have had because of it.
For those that are not in the know, Youtube is a website, www.youtube.com. On this website, you can upload your own videos of whatever you want and watch videos of whatever you want. Being a technophobe, I have never uploaded a video before and must admit, I have no inclination to do so. I'm more a watcher. From looking at the website's own help page, it looks pretty simple. Sign into your account, or create one if you don't have one, select uplad and then upload the required video, much like adding an attachment to an email, etc. There is another reason why I haven't uploaded anything and that is a reason that I discovered today and I will divulge in a short while.
Lke I have said, the main reason I go on Youtube is for the watching of said videos. The homepage of the site is pretty straight forward and gives you several options. At the moment for me, it is showing the search bar at the top-type in what you want to vew and it will search for it, much like Google. I then have TV Shows and a select view to click on and watch. Then it is most recommended for me, which was a welcome surprise (Which again will become clear)-this just selects videos that match your search history, a bit hit and miss I find. Then I have Most Popular-self explanatory, but the most popular videos being watched at the moment.
I generally use the search feature. After doing a search, you get a list of the videos, with a still from the each video, a short description and the length of it. It is around 20 videos a page for me, but it does show you at the top how many videos it has found, much like Google again. You can arrange the order of these videos however you like. Just click on search options at the top and it opens a drop down style menu and you just click the appropriate ones and re-arranged it becomes.
To watch a video, simply click on the required one. It loads a new page for you and you get a box appear on your screen, with a bar along the bottom denoting how far loaded it is. Obviously depending on your connection, depends how long it loads. You can play, pause, change the volume, change to full screen and a couple of bits. If you have an account, you can leave comments, no account is needed to read comments already left. There are like an dislike buttons to and ways of 'subscribing' to the authors page, so you can then get all the videos they have uploaded. I don't understand the subscribe part, as you can get all the videos anyway by clicking on the authors name?? While watching the video, on the right it gives you suggestions of other videos that are similar that you may like as well, hence the hours lost for me.
Now the part I discovered today that I don't like. I have/had a Youtube account and generally had it signed in, so I would get the recommendations on the home page. Having changed computers, I haven't been signed in and thought I would get signed back in today. However, to now sign in, you need to also sign in with a Google Account. I don't have a Google Account, I don't need a Google Account and I don't want a Google Account. Due to this, I can no longer leave comments and if I had the desire to, upload a video. It states it is for security of your account, but the only information I have in my account is my name and email, which is on a kazillion other websites anyway!! This is why the recommendations on the home page was a surprise for me, as I have them and haven't signed in, so it has remembered my use of the site.
Youtube is a website where individual users and also corporate companies can post videos. The website allows you to sign up for an account, meaning you can either post your own videos or subscribe to other peoples, or both! By subscribing to other people's channels you will be alerted when they post new video content, making it easy to keep watching videos that you enjoy. In addition, this website is useful for listening to music on your laptop when you haven't bought the songs, because you can create a playlist of your favourite songs.
Youtube also allows you to post comments on users videos once you have an account, which allows for interaction amongst members. Sometimes this means people leave less then lovely comments, but it also allows for a community type feeling.
Youtube also has some good features, one which I find useful is the ability to view the most watched videos. I find this website very enjoyable to use. I give it a 5/5 as I have no issues with it :)
I will leave you with my top five youtube channels :)
I have been using YouTube for quite a while and I am addicted!
YouTube is a media and video website in which you can view almost any video in the world! This includes TV shows, music videos, interviews, video game cheats, movies, movie trailers, tutorials, music, parodies, sport, random videos and so much more!
The best thing about YouTube though is that you can create your own account and upload your own videos, either from your computer or with a webcam. You will have you very own channel on YouTube, where each and every video you have made will be, plus you can cusomise your channel to suit you tastes. If you have a YouTube account, you can also rate and comment on other peoples' videos. You can also subscribe to someone's channel if you like their videos, so you will be notified whenever they create a new video.
A bad thing about YouTube though is that some videos are just random and stupid. Plus, a lot of the videos are not great quality, which is a bit of downer. Also, you must never reveal any of your personal info, either on a video or on your channel, because YouTube does let you do this.
Apart from that, I think that YouTube is one of the best websites ever and I predict that it will stay that way for quite some time.
Youtube: what can I say about one of the most amazing websites ever invented! Youtube is a website where any one can post videos of anything they like or any genre: TV, music, film, interviews, news stories, video blogs, singer-songwriters, film trailers, them tunes and many, many more things! The website was first launched back in 2005, but I didn't discover the web site until 2006, at first I was a bit worried that it was going to cause a virus on my computer, spam etc, but I knew instandlly that this was a free website and almost anyone around the world uses it - even celebrities. High School Musical's Ashley Tisdale (Sharpay Evans) even has her own youtube channel where she posts blogs and music videos and host competions for her fans and youtube viewers! You love miss Tisdale or a fan of High school musical you may wanna check it out! Did you ever miss you're favourite TV program on channel 4? Youtube has now introduced a Tv channel where you can watch all your favourites including: Fonejacker, IT crowd, Skins, Gok's Fashion Fix, Hollyoaks, Supernanny, You are what you eat, Supersize vs superskinny and many, many more! Films are the same to, they do have some of the world's most popular films on youtube such as 10 things I hate about you, knights tale, Angus Thongs and perfect snogging, The Ballard of Jack and Rose, Mean girls, The notebook and loads more! Also you can watch film trailers so you can then know whether you like the look of a film or not! (in cinemas or on DVD and blue-ray!) Do you like making videos as a talent or a hobby? Why not create your own youtube account and upload videos about anything blogs, music, music videos, films, or even just random funny video you've done with your friends! You never know you could either be an internet celebrity or your video may hit one million views or sometimes more than that! Just be careful though as if you're video is/could be under the influence of copyright it may be removed - so be careful what you post! So check this web site out today and you'll never know what you can find!
You tube is the best video sharing site on the internet. It has any imaginable video and contains information of all sorts, from music to news!
At this moment I am listening to music on youtube, and the great thing is that there is no advertisement in between videos so you are able to watch the video without interuption.
It is the one site that anyone can visit without any difficulty, there is no need to create an account if you just want to watch videos but if you want to share videos on youtube you will have to create an account.
It is also free, which I think everyone aprecciates. No monthly payment or any thing you just type the address in and your off!
Apart from watching videos you can also comment on them saying if you like them or dislike them, or anything you feel like but if the owner of the video does not like the comment he/she can easily remove your comment at the touch of a button.
It is the one site that everybody likes and anyone has access to it, you can visit this site wherever you are in the world.
Music videos-whatever the style of music you like can be found on youtube, video quality depends on what you have recorded the video. You can change the quality of the video, but the highest is the quality it has been recorded with. Many people also like to put covers sung by themselves and tutorials on how to sing or play the song you like can be found aswell.
Movies- You can find almost any movie on youtube, videos have a time limit so you will find the movie in perts which are usually numbered to make it easier to find and watch.
Documentary- You will be able to find out news about almost any topic without having to put the tv on at a certain time to watch the news. You can find out information on a certain subeject and there is a great variety of videos to choose from.
If I made a list of what kind of videos you can find on you tube it would be never ending but those are the main groups in my opinion.
Overall I think that youtube is the safest most reliable video sharing site, on the internet. It is extremely enjoyabl and is a great entertaining and information site.
I don't think there is anything bad I can say about YouTube - it is one of those sites I just keep coming back to, and it really is such a useful resource, as it has just about anything anyone could ever possibly want to make a video about.
For anymore not in the know, YouTube is a site where people publish their home videos and others respond to them. There are a huge amount of videos on every topic - music, clips from tv shows, people just talking about themselves, anything.
It is an excellent resource for a music student as you will find videos of a lot of pieces by great orchestras with great conductors - it really is such a useful website for an orchestral musician, as you get to see so many different interpretations of a piece of music, and all for free!
There are amusing clips from TV shows, people talking about themselves or anything they want to talk about (which can sometimes be useful if you want to find out about something), there really is everything that can be put into video. And all for free!
All in all a great website, and one that I just keep coming back to all the time. It is very easy to navigate and very user friendly.
I'm pretty sure there is no one with a pc who hasn't at some point had some experience with youtube but for the few that haven't here is a run down of how the site works.
It is a massive video sharing website now owned by google but originally created by three former (and now very rich) Paypal employees. Google bought youtube for an incredible $1.65 billion.
In order to upload your own movies and clips you must register, this is a quick and more importantly free process taking only a few minutes. However if you just want to view one of the millions of clips on there you can do that without having to sign in.
No doubt youtube is one of the biggest succeses of the internet age, you can view clips of tv shows, film trailers, party tricks and lots and lots.....andlots of people falling over!!!
As well as viewing clips you can post comments underneath (but again you must be signed in to do this) and it is truly amazing just what people will argue about, the other day I witnessed a violently bitter argument between a fellow who had a penchant for women with large posteriors and a another fellow who resented this fact, it was wonderful to see just how personally offended and irate these two "studs" were getting.
Following youtubes success there is even a tv programme presented by Alex Zane (don't get me started on Alex Bl**dy Zane), the show is called Rude Tube and is a countdown of the 100 most popular clips on youtube, a bit like you've been framed for the digital generation.
Personally I love youtube (along with 99.9% of all pc owners) where else can you see a monkey scratching it's anus then falling out of it's tree, what fun!!! Or a spoilt American child throw the mother of all wobblies when his mum cancels his WOW account, lol.
If youtube has passed you by then go and check it out, you're bound to find something that tickles you as there are millions of clips to view, and be sure to get into as many childish arguments on the topic of buttocks as you possibly can.
Every time that I need to brighten my life if there is nothing on the television or I simply have nothing to do, I turn to youtube!
An amazing invention, youtube came about to the public eye in February 2005 - a new kind of technology, youtube became popular amongst people who wished to express themselves to the world!
Many video bloggers (such as myself) have signed up to youtube to put all sorts of comedic, musical and personal things so that the world can view them!
Youtube is initially easy to use, all you need to do is install adobe flash to view videos - you don't even need to sign up! On youtube you can also "subscribe" to the users whose videos you enjoy to watch - this is a nifty feature because you can easily see when your favourite video bloggers have added new videos for you to watch!
Many music companies have also chosen to give previews of their artists' new songs or videos on youtube. A good example of this is when Lady GaGa and Beyonce previewed their legendary video - "telephone" on youtube and gained a whole load of views just from doing this! Many talents have been discovered through posting videos on youtube, artists such as Pixie lott have been discovered by showing what they can do on youtube!
All that you need to do in order to post a video on youtube is to make up a video using your webcam, upload it to "windows media player" or any other video maker and then upload it to youtube! Uploading takes a while but trust me, it is well worth it - you never know, you may get spotted and become famous!
In conclusion, youtube is a very entertaining environment which allows users to express themselves and generally have fun. Youtube is also secure which allows users to have fun whilst in a secure environment. I would recommend it to anyone!
youtube is the prime source of online videos, anywhere on the web. No where else are so many personal and professional videos compiled, and no where else are they so easy to find and watch.
The process is easy. Simply go to youtube.com and type in the name of what you're looking for. Whatever it is, youtube is bound to have some version of it.
But that's not all. It's possible to join youtube for free, and upload your own videos for free hosting. So long as they don't break any copyright laws (such as belonging to someone else, or containing music that an artist has the rights to) then you can store it, and even embed it on your personal sites. The only limit is that it must be under 10 minutes, but in reality this is rarely a big obstacle.
Not only can you upload your own videos but you can create your own playlists and save your favourites. There is also a great community aspect to it. People comment on each other's videos, and while there are admittedly a lot of flamers - there are also a lot of people with similar interests waiting to find you.
Of course, probably the most famous feature of youtube is being able to watch music videos, film trailers and even programmes for free. There have been periods of time when certain media companies have removed their videos from youtube, but as far as I can see, pretty much anything is now available to anyone in any country.
Certain restrictions may periodically apply (often you'll get a notification saying the video you are trying to access is not available in your country), but overall most things are.
For this reason and all of the above, there is nothing quite like youtube. Other video sites have tried, but I suspect youtube will remain king for a long time to come.
