I took out a 3 month subscription at £59.99 and when I looked at my credit card bill they had charged £105.00. Contacted them and they wrote some patronising reply claiming I had taken out some bundle which I did not. Despite informing them of their mistake the response was to tell me to get lost. Truly the poorest customer service and I would have thought breaking trading standards laws. Would recommend that people avoid using this site and Meetic the company that run this site and many others.

I used Dating direct and have had no trouble. When the time came to come off the site just delete all your profile and pictures. This then stops your profile being posted for years after. If you have problems with payments just cancel the card.It really isnt rocket science just takes a little thought. Much like relationships. Those that are always complianing take a look and ask "why am I single ".

      Just do it naturally

Please people, do not bother! This is a cruel, masochistic waste of time and money. In my experience, it is just wading through profiles of utter control freaks and timewasters. I had been successful on Dating Direct, but he turned out to be a cold, spineless, uncaring little gameplayer, and as for the women on these sites, well, lets just say that they give normal girls a bad name!

On the plus side, I made some friends, they are nice people, but I just don't fancy them! I am sure many people have this dilemma, so I am just going with what my grandmother always said - "It will come along when you least expect it, and there's someone out there for every one". I feel better about this approach, as it sure beats night after night watching every word and calculating every step and only communicating behind a bloody screen! Let me know what you think.

I would advise no one trust these thieving companies who hide behind one flimsy line in the T+C's.

Dating Direct set up "continuous authority" on your account. They don't inform you that this means they can access your card whenever they like. They even apparently put free time on your account and keep applying until they can take the funds they are after - repeatedly. There is no explanation as with other companies where they explain how they will use your card details. They just advise "auto renewal".

Dating direct are horrendous and their customer services "supervisors" both unprofessional and aggressive. They tell you that there is nothing they can do to refund the money they have taken without your knowledge or permission and deny there was any way to turn auto renewal off - something which clearly is not the case as so many have had difficulties with this.

They refuse to give you any details that may assist you in pinpointing exactly who you spoke to and apparently record calls although they do not inform you of that at the beginning of the call. But "Matthew" was not too sure about that when I asked him. I requested my details following my account closure be deleted under the Data Protection Act 1998, there was no longer a need for them to have that information but the person I spoke to on that call said it was impossible.

When I advised I would go to Trading Standards the customer services "supervisor" then tries to enter into a bickering match. Highly unprofessional behavior and I will be letting everyone I know about this.

Both of these companies justify continuing to collect fees by muddying the waters with their "Affinity" brands. You try to cancel one and fees continue to be collected by the other. If you sign up for one month or three months you find that you have agreed to a rolling contract for one month or three months which is renewed immediately after fees have been collected.

      Steer clear!

I'm just about to report this site to Trading Standards. I would imagine they have quite a chunky file by now if any of the other reviews are anything to go by.

I've been an unpaid member for most of the time, which means you can view profiles and send 'winks' and see who has winked at you but you can't contact anyone, and if they try to contact you, you can't read their e-mails unless you pay to become a full member.

Every so often, they offer you a free trial, or a week for £1, but don't be fooled. They have something called 'automatic renewal' and no matter how many times you turn that off, they turn it back on so that at the end of your trial, they debit your credit card for a load more money. They don't tell you that your trial is up or ask you if you want to subscribe, or even inform you that they're going to debit your card, they just do it and the first you know is when it appears on your statement.

I signed up for a week's trial for £1 and forgot to keep checking the automatic renewal. They debited my card £59 for 3 months membership! I phoned to complain and they have totally cancelled my account so I can't even log in anymore but I'm still paying for a further 3 months. I have informed my bank of the situation and told them I am disputing this transaction, and this afternoon I'm writing to Trading Standards. This site should be closed down.

Oh and in case you're wondering, no I didn't find love. The page of guys who've winked at me looks like the cast of Fraggle Rock!

Dating Direct? DO NOT go near this site. I have been sharing my farm with about 8 men : all with photos and mostly foreign...... must be hiding out in the barn ! This site is populated with bogus profiles, so do not go thinking you have a lot of potential partners in your area. You don't. I tried to ask DD what they were playing at but you can't email them anything. KEEP AWAY I am only giving this a star rating to list this reviewHelen, an obscure location in Scotland.

I'd attempt it again but wouldn't that much £ for it. Ask about their past.

Hey, I went on here when I was about 13 (I put I was 18) looking for someone more mature and intellectual or academically driven than most of the people I knew of my own age but didn't find anything really, tried again at 16 and contacted what seemed like a really nice man. We talked for about 4 months after swapping some details and then we met. We were together for 4 months, he turned 23 and I turned 17 which isn't much of an age gap at all really but once we broke up I realised how he'd pressured me to do things I didn't want to do and he hadn't looked after me and had tried to interpret some underlying agenda to everything I did or said. He always shouted at me in general conversation and acted like a moody, sulky aggressive teenager, like someone younger than myself. He tried to guilt me into doing more and more for him until I ran out of money, then I borrowed what I couldn't pay back and eventually stole for him. For some time after breaking up with him I felt like changing from bisexual to lesbian, but I couldn't force it. I can never do some of that stuff again and struggle being around any man now, the thought of what they really want is too degrading and it makes me hate myself and women out there who just live to serve men like they're lowlier or something.
I'm trying to open another profile on the site right now. I had the last one for about 6 months and never paid anything and somehow was still able to use everything on there.
I can't afford to subscribe but I'm going to register from a different IP address in the hope of getting another free trial to find a grown man out there. Not one looking for someone inexperienced enough to know she's being treated badly.
All I can say is be careful, even if it seems okay at the start. And make sure you ask about the person's past relationships and see if they seem normal.

Dating Direct does offer some genuine contacts. HOWEVER. Once you end your subscription they continue to publish your details on their site as though you were still a genuine member. Innocent people are fooled into thinking there are more members than there really are. Their website is designed to be complicated and trick you into continually paying. I have reported them to UK Trading Standards.

Money making scam devised by slimey individuals who simply don't care.

Dating Direct is a pathetic waste of time. I just don't know where I can begin with my woeful experiences of using this appalling website. If you have a penchant for feeling angry, frustrated, used and abused then be sure to hand your money over to Dating Direct. They will snatch it in their slimey, money grabbing hands with not even a momentary pause of guilt.

Lets be frank here, if you're male and you join any online dating website, then your experiences will inevitably be worse than a females. There are more male members for a start (Dating Direct is no exception). This ratio imbalance often goes to some females heads. Where the less-than-attractive-types suddenly experience far greater levels of attention from the opposite sex than they do in real life. You can only imagine what the experiences of the more attractive females might be like. However, whether you're an attractive female or not, you still get the attention and that's key. Those same principles DO NOT APPLY if you're male. If you're an attractive male or even a grossly unattractive male on Dating Direct then your experiences will be very similar.

Expect to have to do A LOT OF WORK just to get someone to send you an email. Yes, that's right, an email. We are not talking a date here, we are just simply talking a courteous response to all your hard work. And what of this email? Does it sing with Shakespearean prose? Would it put Wordswoth to shame? Hardly. 'Sorry mate... can't chat, too busy chatting wiv me mates and 'aving a laff' - is typically the sort of response you're get from a Dating Direct member. Depressing isn't it?

Estimates put email responses from female Dating Direct members at around 1 in 10. So, for every ten emails you send out, typically you get one reply. Now, these are not blanket emails that you send to dozens of female members... they are carefully crafted, pleasant, courteous thoughtful emails that attempt to highlight one or two aspects of their profiles you found interesting. Even with this approach the response rate seldom improves much beyond a 10% reply rate.

Now, think for a moment. Imagine the the 100's (of primarily very tedious and unimaginative profiles) you have to wade through to find 10 females you find interesting enough to write to. That is an awful lot of work. Unlike some, I actually did read the profile of EVERY SINGLE ONE of these female members. I did not just click on their photos. That would be too lazy.

So, having painfully waded through the Herculean task of having read in the region of 500-600 profiles then crafted a concise, yet thoughtful email to around 50 of those profiles (The man hours involved in this task were truly astronomical!) to then receive less than 10 responses (most of which clearly demonstrated they had not even bothered to read MY profile) was utterly soul destroying.

It's estimated that between 85-91% of all 'members' on Dating Direct are not fully paid members. This means they cannot reply to your emails unless they pay to do so. Furthermore, you have no way of knowing who is a paid member or not. Dating Direct do not provide you with this information.

There is no way in the world I could ever recommend Dating Direct to anyone. It has become a slimey, souless façade designed to make money. Your social wellbeing - in terms of friendship, love & happiness - is not something they even care about.

Please do not waste your money. I cannot emphasize strongly enough that Dating Direct is an abomination. Just do the smart thing and go join your local sports, drama clubs. Or do a course at college where you will meet like minded folks of the opposite sex.

If it's not illegal, it should be made illegal

DATINGDIRECT.. I joined. I paid the subscription fee. I posted photos and filled in endless questions. I received endless offers of sex from complete strangers, all too mean to pay a prostitute presumably.I sent numerous winks and e-mails, most of which went unheeded ( having read other reviews I suspect that most of the members I tried to contact were no longer able to contact me) A large proportion of the males using the site have no photo, which is suspicious...are they married? lying about their age and appearance in their profile? Nutters who don't want to be easily identified?
The final insult is that I can't access my profile even if I want to. Every time I try to log on to the site I've paid to be a member of, DATINGDIRECT, another site takes over, DATINGDIRECTAFFINITY and demands money before it will let me into my profile. I have contacted them and demanded either access or my subscription back. Watch this space.

Useless and outrageous! And they suddenly start taking your money again from your account. There's no way to contact them to deal with this. What a nightmare! How can they get away with this theft in this day and age? I wouldn't have given them any stars if it hadn't been for the fact that this page could not have been submitted with at least one.

i joined dating direct for a month, and to be honest, will never ever join it again, its a complete waste of money. Its supposed to be a dating site, but what is a dating site anymore/ Just seems to me full of men and women who are just looking for casual sex. I thought there were sites for that sort of thing if thats what your looking for. In my experience no one on this site is actually looking for relationships.

BEWARE!! I rarely write reviews... but i feel i have to issue everyone considering this site a SERIOUS WARNING.

I signed up for this site as it claims to have the most members. First off, this is a dubious claim. Probably it can claim this as it partnered with another dating site (meetic), and they count their joint membership total. Plus they count all their expired members and people who just browse but can't even wink because they haven't paid the membership charges..
For reference: I am female, young, quite attractive, put up a photo and am genuinely trying to meet nice guys!
Anyway, i paid for a months' subscription to see what would happen and who i would meet. But i found out there really aren't that many members on it that are paid up! I can see why there are so many embittered people reviewing this site ... its impossible to meet many real, genuine people on here.
And now i tell you why..
because THEY WILL SIGN YOU UP FOR A SUBSCRIPTION even if you didn't sign up for one!!! So you have to ring them and cancel it with 30 days notice or you will be charged month after month after month... and it ain't cheap! So anyone who clues up to this gets straight off the site and doesn't pay again!

I am not even sure how the site get away with this. If anyone knows a relevant body we should complain to let us know! Sites like this are scams. Please don't be fooled. I think there are better websites out there.. i for one am going on either telegraph or guardian ... at least they have genuine real and online people on there!!
