METHOD WASHING UP LIQUID --------------------------------------------- I use Method products in my home almost exclusively for cleaning as they are remarkably good and are natural and free from harsh chemicals. That isn't to say that I don't use heavy duty bleach based cleaners and so on for jobs that demand it, but on the whole these products are excellent for keeping on top of household chores. The product that I value highly is the Clementine dish washing liquid which I have been using for many months now. It is available from many supermarkets as well as from Amazon and from Method themselves at www.methodproducts.co.uk. Appearances in certain supermarkets such as the Co-op seem to be sporadic and unpredictable. I spotted some on a recent trip to Britain's most remote Co-op in The Outer Hebrides, but on my subsequent visit it had vanished, but it certainly is stocked in all the major stores including B&Q and Homebase. It is also available from online retailers operating in the ethical field such as Ethical Superstore and Big Green Smile. The beauty of this product is that the bottle itself is a pump dispenser which holds a generous 532 ml and that refills are available in 1032ml size plastic tetra-packs which represent excellent value for money. The bottle itself is an excellent design and looks very sleek indeed, and the pump dispenser allows the product to be either squirted directly onto a sponge or cleaning cloth, or onto a bowl of hot water, or even onto dirty dishes directly. It produces masses of lovely bubbles and the scent is absolutely beautiful as it is fresh and has a citrus aroma. The cleaning capabilities of this dish washing liquid are excellent. Compared to Ecover which is another brand leader in this ecologically friendly area this surpasses this hands down in my opinion. Although I have a dishwasher I have certain items that I prefer to hand wash such as my Circulon pans and so on which I am hoping to keep for a long time, and sometimes these present quite a challenge. In every case to date the washing liquid has surpassed all my expectations cutting through dried on food effortlessly leaving the dishes clean and with a lingering orange oil scent. It took me a long time to accept that there really was an eco-friendly product that was as good as Fairy which was my dish washing liquid of choice for many years. Having tried several others in the environmentally friendly category I had never been sufficiently convinced that they had the right amount of cleaning power to make the job less than a massive chore- until I found Method! The product is also remarkably kind to hands as well, and I have never found my skin to be made dry by using this so again this is another attribute. This maybe due to the coconut oil content and the inclusion of vitamin E and aloe vera which all impart moisture and softness. This of course is not a problem if you use Fairy but some other liquids can be very harsh when used with regularity. Furthermore it is also lovely to use to wipe down kitchen worktops on a daily basis, and just recently Method have launched a sister product in this Clementine fragrance which is a surface cleaning spray to complement their existing multi-purpose sprays in the Pink Grapefruit and Lavender ranges. This is excellent too and ideal to use on kitchen worktops and in bathrooms. It is also useful to know that a little of the product goes a long way so it is economical. Although I am always looking to purchase ethical and environmentally friendly products, I won't do so at the expense of performance and this product excels in all aspects of use from cleaning capabilities to dispenser design, and also has skin preservation and protection qualities. The entire bottle is recyclable as well, but of course if you buy the tetra-packs you won't be doing this on a regular basis. I tend to purchase refills in bulk from Amazon as I always have a supply ready. I do this by taking out a subscription which is a highly effective way to ensure you never run out, and can benefit from the discounts associated with this scheme. I highly recommend this if you haven't looked at it already. I have many groceries on subscription with Amazon on either a monthly or longer interval delivery schedule, and it is easy to amend, postpone or cancel them at any time. The refills work out at £8.09 on subscription for 2 tetra-packs of 1064mls which equates to a bottle refill for just over £2. Of course they offer free delivery as well for their grocery orders. Method also make this washing up liquid in a Cucumber fragrance which is equally effective at removing grease and dried on food, but overall I prefer the Clementine scent a little over this one. I highly recommend this product. The packaging is sleek, the scent beautiful, the results are outstanding and it leaves hands soft and pleasantly fragranced. It is also great for the environment and excellent for recycling qualities. Added to this it is economical and is a joy to use. I sometimes even wash up by hand instead of using the dishwasher just for the pleasure of using it so it really is that good!
I love Method cleaning products so I was delighted to receive a complimentary bottle of their new Clementine scented washing up liquid, via an email promotion. Method is an American company which have a small, but growing, range of eco-friendly products, designed to work effectively without using harsh and unnecessary chemicals. I have actually been lucky enough to try one of their washing up liquids before. I found that the original variety (Lavender) performed well enough but the packaging was pretty slippery and impractical for the task in hand. One of the benefits of being a smaller company is that Method listened to customer feedback and they have actually redesigned the entire range of washing up liquids. The new range, available in this Clementine or Cucumber fragrances, has been repackaged and now comes in a really attractive large curved pump. This new design looks really stylish and stands out from all the other brands of washing up liquid available. Crucially, this time around, the funky packaging has actually been designed with practicality in mind. Despite being quite a large dispenser (containing 532ml, so considerably larger than most 'standard' sized products) the body is shaped to curve inwards. This design makes the bottle easy to hold, even with wet hands. The transparent bottle shows off the attractive bright orange washing up liquid inside to good effect too, making this a product that I'm proud to have next to my sink. The pump dispenser is pretty unusual and means that the liquid can be pumped straight into a sink full of dirty dishes or dispensed straight on to a scouring sponge, cloth or brush, if preferred. I like the versatility that this offers as I can squirt some washing up liquid straight on to a scourer, if needed, without even having to pick up the bottle itself. The pump is pretty chunky but dispenses a generous squirt of washing up liquid each time. Once mixed with hot water, this produces an abundance of fluffy white bubbles, even with just a single squeeze of washing up liquid. My husband can be a little heavy-handed and over-exuburant and when he gave an extra squirt from the bottle, the sink resembled an over-the-top bubble bath rather than a sink full of dirty dishes! A little really does go a long way here! Most importantly, I found that the bubbles and cleaning power lasted for as long as the water remained hot, rather than dying out quickly as I've noticed other Eco brands (such as Ecover) tend to do. I was very pleased with the overall cleaning performance of the washing up liquid in use. I have a dishwasher so only use washing up liquid for items that are too large, too dirty or not suitable for dishwasher use. This means that this stuff has been put through its paces on various casserole dishes, saucepans, frying pans and roasting tins. Whatever has been placed in its path, however dirty, Method has dealt with it without any difficulty and I haven't had to resort to prolonged soaking or scrubbing, even with burnt or dried on residue. One of the nicest features of this particular product is the scent. Washing up can be a bit of a thankless task so it is always nice to cheer it up with a pleasant aroma. The Clementine fragrance here certainly does that. I did suspect that 'Clementine' might just be a sexier way of describing what would be a basic Orange fragrance but I found that the name was justified. The scent is far more subtle than a full-blown Citrus fragrance and would not be off-putting, even to somebody not overly keen on citrus notes. It is a very mild scent but leaves the sink and the cleaned dishes (as well as my hands) smelling fresh but in a very under-stated way. I rarely use gloves when washing by hand, despite having dry, sensitive skin around my hands. I was pleased that the Method formula was gentle enough not to irritate or sting my skin in any way. In keeping with Method's environmentally credentials, this washing up liquid is biodegradable, contains naturally derived ingredients, is phosphate free and isn't tested on animals. The stylish bottle is also made from 100% recycled plastic and can be either recycled or, even better, refilled using a pouch refill after use. This particular product can be purchased via Ocado or the Method website for £3 per bottle. This does seem expensive but I have found that the concentrated formula goes such a long way that a single bottle lasts for ages. (We've been using our bottle for several months although, admittedly, in conjunction with a dishwasher.) I do feel that this is expensive but it is an eco-friendly product that performs exceedingly well and looks pretty attractive too! More information about the range and local stockists can be found on the Method website at www.methodproducts.co.uk
