A month ago we had our son Jayden Christened, we spent the weeks leading up to it arranging both the ceremony and the gathering afterwards. We hired a marquee at a local pub which was a couple of minutes walk from the church, it was ideal as we had a large amount of people attending and needed somewhere big enough. We had to do all of the decorations ourselves, which I was pleased about as it meant I could have it just the way I wanted it. When we were looking for the decorations the one thing I struggled with was what to put on the tables, all of the linen was supplied by the venue but leaving them just plain didn't seem right, however a lot of things available were more suited to weddings. I was browsing in our local Store 21 shop whilst cutting through it when I spotted White Wicker Hearts on Stands, after having a closer look I decided that with a bit of decorating they would be perfect for our Christening table decorations. The Store 21 Wicker Hearts on Stands are basically what the name suggests, the top part which is the heart obviously is made from wicker, this is white and made up of thin stripes of the wood type material all woven together to produce a heart shape, this in turn sits on top of a white pole which is then attached to a white wooden rectangle base designed to support and stabilise the whole thing. The heart is attached to the pole with the same wicker wrapped around it, this then has a white ribbon and bow wrapped around it. The whole thing has a sort of white washed finished to it giving it a rustic look, personally I wasn't keen on the white ribbon around it as they just looked roughly tied and a bit messy, however this didn't really bother me as I was planning on removing this and adding my own decorations so that it fitted in with our colour scheme. As I have mentioned I purchased the Wicker Hearts on Stands from our local Store 21, they came in two sizes, there was a smaller one which are the ones we went for and a larger one, personally we felt these would be too large on the table. The Wicker Hearts we purchased measured 16 inches high from the base to the highest part of the heart and the actual heart on top is 10 inches wide, again this is take from the widest part, the base measures 7 inches x 4 inches and is just a few cm thick. We paid £3.99 each for the hearts, personally I thought this was good value for money and for us using them as table decorations it worked out a lot cheaper than some other ideas we had. I am not exactly sure what the Wicker Hearts on Stands are designed for I am assuming they are designed to be used as decoration within your house, they could really be used in any room, however we didn't really look into this as we only wanted to use them as table decorations for Jayden's Christening and had every intention of decoration them ourselves so that they blended in. When it came to add our own touch to them we decided that they needed to be sparkly (but not in a girly way) and they also needed something baby blue. The first thing we did with them was remove the tacky white ribbon around them and then applied our own strip of baby blue and white gingham ribbon around the edge of the base where the width of the base and the width of the ribbon were a perfect match, we simply stuck this with fabric glue, the next thing we did was to replace the original ribbon with a perfectly formed bow again made from the same baby blue and white gingham ribbon, the bow was stuck together so that it couldn't fall part and then had a small clear crystal stuck in the middle of it giving the appearance that this was what was holding it together, we then stuck the bow onto the pole where the pole and the heart meets. The next thing we needed to do was add a bit of sparkle, we purchased hundreds of flat backed crystals, these were sticky on the back and we stuck them onto the wicker hearts both sides, this literally took hundreds of crystals and several days to do, but we were so pleased with the finished product that it was worth it. The crystals add a bit of sparkle but didn't make them too girly for a boys Christening. Overall I was extremely pleased with the Store 21 Wicker Hearts on Stands, they made excellent table decorations for Jayden's Christening, they are also very versatile and could make a nice addition to your home or they could even be used as decorations for weddings, the plain white colour of the hearts means that should you require you can add your own touch to them so that they fit in with the colour scheme of whatever room they are going in. The hearts are reasonably priced so should you wish to purchase quite a lot at once as we did they are not going to cost a fortune and they are in my opinion worth the money, they are well made and reasonably strong, obviously the wicker could get broken should they get knocked over constantly or treated roughly, however for us this was not a problem. The hearts made a lovely addition to the tables and blended in perfectly with the rest of our decorations and after the Christening we stood one of the hearts either end of Jayden's window sill in his bedroom as again they blend in perfectly with the colours in his room and really do look lovely. I would highly recommend the Wicker Hearts on Stands from Store 21 especially if you are looking for something a bit different to decorate a venue.
