      UGG care kit

I own a number of pairs of Ugg Boots and I absolutely love them but at over £100 a pair they are definitely an investment boot and as such I will do anything I can to protect them. When I got my first pair I bought the care kit as well just for the pure fact that I wanted to keep them nice and look after them and yes, I guess you could probably buy cheaper sheepskin protectors but I like the fact that these products are made by the Ugg company and tailored specifically for your Ugg Boots.

The Ugg Care consists of an Ugg cleaner and conditioner, an Ugg Sheepskin protector, and a brush. I must first admit that I have never used the cleaner and conditioner, I never wear my boots in the rain or to walk over muddy fields or anything like that. I guess I am quite anal about the boots but I like to keep them clean to begin with so I have never had a need for this part of the care kit but I have friends who say that it works really well. Obviously as you cannot put the boots in the washing machine this cleaner and conditioner works on the surface of the boots to tackle any stains that you may get on your boots.

The main reason I got this kit was for the sheepskin protector. I have used suede sprays on shoes before so I knew I wanted to get a spray that would work on these boots before I wore them for the first time. The spray is quite watery based, not really like a spray you get from a hairspray can. I put my hand into the boot and then hold the spray a ways away from the boot and spray it all over. You can target parts if you want but I find its much better to just spray all over the boot. The fabric will go a bit darker as obviously you have just sprayed a liquid on it but when it dries it goes back to the original colour of the boot. It does not take long for them to dry but I tend to do it overnight just to make sure they are fully dry and protected before I wear them. I tend to reapply this protector once every couple of months, you do not need any more than that and so I have only ever bought one can of spray so far. I really think the spray works. If for example I do get any rain spots or the odd bit of dirt on my boots I just go home and brush it off with the brush that comes with this kit and the spot comes straight off without damaging the boot fabric underneath. It's almost as if you have coated the sheepskin with a layer of protection and this holds the dirt away from your boots.

A few years on and although they look worn in my boots are still nice and clean and still look very presentable. A care kit costs £21 from the Ugg website but you can also buy them from shoe stores where Ugg boots are sold.

A kit to protect, clean and freshen your UGGs

I now have two pairs of UGGs which I have worn rather a lot over the winter period. I purchased the UGG care kit a couple of months ago because a friend of mine tried to clean her UGGs using a solution bought from a shoe shop which was not by UGG. She had a disaster with it turning her UGGs a rather different shade to what they previously were as well as it leaving lots of water marks. I spoke to the lady in the shoe shop called Schuh about the UGG cleaner kit and she persuaded me to buy it by saying that I have spent a lot of money on the UGGs in the first place so I might as well spend a bit extra to keep them looking as good as they looked when I purchased them. I do think that it is unlikely that they will ever look as they did when first bought but from the results of the cleaner kit they certainly look a lot better than they did after a lot of wear. UGGs cannot be machine washed due to the delicate sheep skin and because they water mark so easily.

COST OF THE KIT AND ITS CONTENTS

The kit cost £28.00 and the lady got it from behind the counter it was not on display to buy. Inside the kit was a 118ml sheepskin freshener, 118ml sheepskin cleaner and a 118ml sheepskin protector as well as a soft suede brush and soft bristle brush on the other side. These items come in a smart brown box so it is a lovely present to give to somebody if you know they have UGGs.

WHERE THE KIT CAN BE PURCHASED

The kit can be bought in some highstreet shoe shops like Schuh or Treds and many online retailers stock it such as, Amazon. I would be wary about purchasing the kit on eBay because I have heard that there are fakes of these kits being made which obviously would not be a great idea in case they wrecked your UGGs. So my advice is to purchase the kit from a reputable retailer.

        SHEEPSKIN FRESHNER

This item is very simply a spray that you spray inside the boots to freshen them up. Luckily I do not have sweaty or smelly feet. However, I can imagine that if somebody wears UGGs when the weather is not freezing cold then they could perhaps sweat slightly so this of course is a great product to reduce any unwanted smells. The directions for the spray bottle state to spray it inside of the shoe after every wear however, I think this is a little excessive and is just a way for you to use up the product extremely quickly. In the winter period when I was regularly wearing them I sprayed the inside of them about once per week.

        SHEEPSKIN CLEANER

This item is the one which takes the time. Firstly the entire boot needs to be dampened with cold water. I tried to make sure no water actually went inside of the boot just simply on the outside surface. Then dilute the sheepskin cleaner with half water and half cleaner. Not a lot of the cleaner is required. Then from reading the instructions I simply dipped the soft bristled brush into the diluted cleaner solution and started very gently scrubbing the surface of the boots. At this point I was very nervous in case anything could have gone wrong. In hindsight I should have tested a patch before doing the entire boot but luckily it all went to plan. Then after gently scrubbing the boots I rinsed them with again with cold water minding not to get any water inside the boots. The instructions then state to put rolled up paper inside the boots to keep their shape. However, my UGGs are quite sturdy UGGs so it did not do this. However, less sturdy UGGs would probably require this step in the cleaning process. Then allow the boots to dry and then get the suede end of the brush and gentle buff the surface of the boots in one direction. This is to get the tracking of the suede back to how they were. However, I found that the suede brush was not very good unfortunately. Whenever, I gently rubbed with it I kept seeing marks occur that did not look like the regular tracking of the boots so I kept stopping. Eventually I did not carry on with the suede brush but the boots still look lovely and clean.

        SHEEPSKIN PROTECTOR

This is a spray that needs shaking and simply needs spraying a few centre metres away from the boots preferably outdoors onto the outer surface of the boots. It simply creates a shield to protect the boots from damage like snow and heavy rain. I wish I had purchased this kit straight when I bought my first pair of UGGs just so I could use this sheepskin protector from day one. However, I have never had bad marks on my UGG boots to this day. I spray the protector onto the boots after I have cleaned the boots to make sure they have that shield on again.

        OVERALL

This is a superb kit to keep your UGGs looking and smelling fresh and clean again. The brush that comes in the kit could be a little bit softer for the suede side but apart from that I absolutely love the kit and am so pleased I paid that extra £28.00. I have also used the kit on suede boots that are not UGGs and it worked like a gem again.

Well worth the spend to look after your precious Uggs!

Ugg boots certainly aren't cheap but they are really gorgeous and nearly everyone i know now has a pair. I think that if you're going to pay £120 or more for a pair of boots, then it is well worth buying a care kit to keep those boots in top condition!

I must admit i did have to talk myself into buying the care kit because i kept whinging about the price, i thought "£22 just for some spray that might not even work? As if these boots haven't already cost me enough!" But after careful consideration and me getting rather sick of muddy puddles spoiling my uggs, i finally bought the kit and i don't regret it.

          The kit contains;

Ugg Cleaner & Conditioner - Great for cleaning up your Uggs after they have been spoilt with muddy puddles or snow etc. it really gets them looking new again even when you thought your boots were ruined.

Ugg Water & Stain Repellant - This is actually my favourite product from the care kit, you spray this on your Ugg boots onto the areas that you think might get dirty when you go outside then leave it to dry. Then when you do go out it really does act as a brilliant repellant of dirty marks and water stains and even if you do come home with a few marks on your boots, they wipe straight off easily in seconds thanks to this spray.

Brush & Scruff eraser - Great for wiping down your uggs and keeping them nice and clean.

The kit even comes in a nice Ugg box so you can keep it stored safely and stylishly. I would definetely reccomend this care kit to anyone who owns a pair of Ugg boots, especially the sand coloured ones as they get dirtiest the quickest. The kit may initially seem expensive but compared to what it will cost you to replace your Uggs the £22 price tag is not a lot!
