“ Manufacturer: John Lewis / Type: Linen Bin „
I absolutely hate ironing and as a result I often have what can only be described as an ironing mountain waiting to be ironed.
As a result my existing linen bin simply could not cope and I had to pile ironing on top , so I was on the look out for something bigger that could possibly accommodate a massive pile of clothing waiting to be ironed.
I wanted something that would also double up as a bedside table and that looked like a nice piece of furniture so this is why I chose the John Lewis linen bin.
Unfortunately this comes flat packed so you have to assemble this.
It came in a cardboard box and each piece was wrapped in protective wrap.
The instructions included are very comprehensive, each piece is labelled as are the screws and fittings.
It says this is a two person job, so I hung around and offered unhelpful instructions to my husband and I think passed him a couple of screws and picked up the ones he dropped.
It looked very easy to assemble , he did it in less than 30 minutes , did not swear once and maintained good humour throughout. The pieces fit together like a glove and I was very impressed with the finished product and my husband as he did not even register on the swearometer.
This is part of the St Ives range from John Lewis and there are other pieces you can add.
They show this in a bathroom setting on their website, presumably to put dirty washing in, but I am using this to store clean washing.
It is made of white rubberwood. Rubberwood is a hardwood , part of the maple family and the tree that all latex comes from . The wood is not used until it dies so furniture makers claim it is ecologically friendly.
The linen bin has a hinged lid which lifts up and there is plenty of room to store most of my ironing. I do not iron for weeks on end so I guess I have more ironing to hide away than most people , but this does hold quite a large amount. At the momenet I think there are several quilt covers , pillowcases loads of Tshirts, cotton shirts, jeans and quite a few items that I wear about twice a year as they are so difficult to iron. OK I admit it can't cope and there is a small pile on top , but it hasn't reached the topple over stage yet!
The actual dimensions are H68 x W50 x D36cm or 27" x 20" x 14" so it is a really good size.
We have this as at the side of a bed and it doubles up as a bedside table ( sometimes)
It is really good quality , not your typical flat packed piece of furniture as it feels really sturdy and looks great. The sides have a panelled design and the top is smooth.
The piece has a laquered finish so it is waterproof. Although it is described as white rubberwood, I would say this is a very pale creamy white as opposed to a very bright white.
It can also be attached to the wall and the fixings are included. I guess this might make sense in a bathroom , or if you have concerns about children climbing on top and it toppling over.
I like that it is nicely finished inside as well as outside and I think this is a great piece that could be used to store almost anything and would not look out of place in any room.
St Ives is a great name for this range as it brings to mind the tiny cottages you see there and this piece would suit that style of home perfectly.
John Lewis guarantee this for 2 years .
I ordered this online and John Lewis delivered it within days.
Price and Availability
From John Lewis stores or online at a cost of £100. So it isn't the cheapest , but it is made of wood and is a quality piece of furniture in my opinion.
