Magnolia & Vanilla Glad Solid Freshener

      The Product
      = = = = = =
The product I am reviewing is the Glade Magnolia and Vanilla Solid Gel Freshener. I have purchased this product a few times for work so I thought it was about time to write a review on it. I chose the solid gel freshener to pop into the toilets at work. We have 3 separate toilets and the toilets, particularly the male toilets can become a little smelly so I decided to purchase a freshener for each toilet so it smelt a little better when delivery drivers, need to use them. I chose this particular scent as I love the smell of vanilla, it's one of my favourites and I thought the vanilla and Magnolia smell would freshen the toilet area up a fair bit. The solid gel comes in a plastic cage which has holes at the front to enable the scent of the product to come out. When you first buy the product this will have a label stuck over it but it pulls off easily to reveal the scent. You can see the solid gel in the cage and it's an off white/pale yellow colour. The gel fills the whole of the cage and can be placed on any flat surface to freshen the room or area around it. In the Vanilla and Magnolia range you can also purchase an Aerosol and a Candle. The Solid Gel can be purchased from Supermarkets and stores such as Wilkinson for as little as £1.00. You can also purchase a Lily of the Valley freshener as well.

      Using the Product
      = = = = = = = =
I placed peeled the label off of the freshener and placed one in every toilet in the building (3 toilets), some of the toilet areas are larger than others with a small sink in there as well whereas some are just a toilet cubicle. The label was really easy to peel off & I could already smell the scent of the product. I left the air freshener for the evening and would assess the results the following day after I know the toilets had been used! During the day I used the female toilets and as soon as I entered the cubicle I could smell the fresh scent of vanilla with a slightly floral scent which is the magnolia. I would say there is more of a vanilla smell than anything else. The smell of the gel is quite sweet but it makes the area smell really fresh and certainly a lot more pleasant than it had done before. The larger areas where I placed the gel freshener, these areas also smelt much nicer and the smell of the gel spread throughout the whole area so the whole toilet area including the sink area smelt fresh and pleasant. The solid gel fresheners last for approximately 4 weeks before the solid gel shrinks to a smaller size and stops giving off a scent. Of course the smell of the solid gel is much stronger during the first few weeks as the gel is a large size and hasn't yet begun shrinking.

      Overall Opinion
      = = = = = = =
The solid gels do a fantastic job of keeping the toilet areas smelling clean and fresh and much more pleasant than they had done before. The gel lasts a good amount of time and I think for £1.00 I can't really say anything bad about this product. The scent to the product is sweet but doesn't smell to sickly and freshens up whichever area you decide to the freshener in. I buy these on a regular basis for the toilets at work, as this is my favourite scent in the Glade range out of the solid gel fresheners. I would recommend this product to others whether you want to freshen up a toilet, room or different area then this product will do a great job. It's best to keep this product out of reach of children as they may knock the product over or could get some of the gel on their fingers if they try to poke their fingers through the small holes in the cage. The cage which holds the solid gel isn't very attractive but it can easily be hidden behind an item of furniture or placed on a high shelf where the item won't really be seen.

      Advantages

      Disadvantages

Cheap isn't always a good thing

I bought a Glade solid for my bathroom when it was on offer in the supermarket but I disliked it so much that I wish I hadn't bothered to be honest. They are only £1 normally but it was on offer for half price so was only 50p. I thought at that price it was worth trying.

The air freshener comes in a white plastic container and it isn't very subtle and is difficult to hide out of the way. You need to remove a cardboard covering so that the gel can release its fragrance. The gel looks like jelly and it reminded me of one that my nana used to have when I was a kid.

The fragrance was supposed to be a relaxing zen but I found nothing relaxing or zen like about it. In fact it smelt really flowery and old fashioned and it reminded me a bit of a nice public toilet. For the first couple of days I found the smell to be quite pungent and overpowering and was grateful to get out of the bathroom away from it.

I actually nearly decided to bin it but luckily the smell faded somewhat after a couple of days and it wasn't quite as offensive as it had been. It still wasn't the nicest of smells but I could live with it as it was only in the bathroom.

Just when I was starting to deal with the fragrance it had almost all but disappeared. Even up close most of the fragrance was gone and the gel had turned in to a hard clumpy mess inside. Obviously this meant that it was time to throw it out and buy a new one. Which I did it just wasn't a Glade solid air freshener.

Although it only cost me 50p I still expected better from Glade and this just wasn't good enough in my books. The smell was pretty nasty and nothing like the description made it sound like and the fact that it only lasted a couple of weeks before needing thrown out was pitiful.

If you like the smell of public toilets then buy this but if not then spend just a few pence more and get something that smells a lot better and lasts a lot longer.

        Advantages

        Disadvantages

Not my favourite but a regular all the same

        Glade solid air freshener

I really do love having a nice smelling home and for that reason I tend to buy a lot of air fresheners. Most of my purchases always come when I am in my local Poundland as the branded items are always a fraction of the price when compared to buying them in the supermarket. However these Glade solid air fresheners can be picked up for under a pound if you find them on a special offer. I know I shouldn't buy things like this as my other half seems to be allergic to just about anything and items such as this really do make him sneeze.that said his sneezing bothers me less than having a stinky home.

The glade solid airfreshner can come I a few different aromas and most of which do actually smell rather old lady like and I steer away from the lavender scented one as this seems to be the worst culprit. The lily one is not so bad and this is generally which one I opt for. For under £1 it's not a bad price for an item that does leave a nice aroma in the room it is situated in.

The solid glade freshened comes in a white plastic case and it has a sticky label on the front which needs to be removed in order for the aroma of the air freshened to be released. This is easily taken off and once it is the fragrance is really rather strong. The solid air freshener will last a good few weeks and in all this time I find that the strength of the aroma will keep diminishing somewhat. More often than not the solid lump inside the plastic case ( which is a actually more of a jelly like substance) will turn into a rock like product and it will have shrunk down in size. Once it has turned rock like however it won't shrink any more or produce any aroma so you know it's time to throw it away.

As far as air freshener products go, this isn't really one of the better ones you can get. The choice of aromas is not that vast and the ones that are on offer are not especially wonderful. However it is cheap and cheerful and I do often get them for the entrance hall and need the stairs at home. I like the fact that the plastic casing is recyclable and there isn't too much waste or an aerosol can to get rid once the product has been used up.the look of the air freshener is somewhat inoffensive and the fragrance created by it does freshen up the room for a short period.

On the whole I think I will continue to buy these glade solid air fresheners as and when the fancy takes me. They are a fair price for a fair product and I can't really ask much more of them. I think a fair product like this deserves a fair score of 3 out of 5 stars and a mild recommendation.

I do hope that this has been of some help/interest to you

Many thanks for taking the time to read

        Advantages

        Disadvantages

Ok for the price but nothing special.

By now regular readers of my past reviews will know that I have a bit of an obsession with scented candles and all things smelly, I use air fresheners daily in my home and light candles when I'm in as I think there's nothing worse than living in stale-smelling environment. I smoke and I have a pet dog, neither of these help to keep my home smelling fresh so I resort to tried and tested means to keep my home a pleasant place to live in.

I have a separate toilet and shower room at home and for the loo I keep an air freshener to hand to get rid of any toilet smells, sprays are fine but I find they dissipate too quickly and when sprayed in a small room they can also be quite cloying when first sprayed into the air. I used to burn candles in there but this seemed like a waste given that I only ever go in that room for the obvious reasons but still wanted something that I could have that would leave it smelling fresh and clean. A standing air freshener seemed like a good idea and having a very limited choice I ended up picking up one of these Glade Gels from Tesco and paid around a pound for it.

The Gel comes housed in plastic as shown and is free-standing, a removable cardboard 'plate' covers the Gel itself and once off there are holes in the plastic that allows the fragrance from the gel to work its way into the air. The gel is slightly moist to the touch and at first is quite strong-smelling, you'd never mistake it for anything other than a generic air freshener and even though it's supposed to resemble Lily of the Valley it is, in actual fact, simply a floral pong. I don't really like the smell of these if I'm being absolutely honest as they are really synthetic in my opinion and when compared to the likes of Yankee Candle and other more-expensive home fragrancing products they really are quite poor. I buy them simply because something is better than nothing and not having much in the way of choice in the matter I put up with these as they are a means to an end although I'd never give them a glowing recommendation to anyone else.

I find that I can get a good few weeks fragrance out of one of these, the pungency when first opened soon dies down and in a small room one has enough fragrance to be noticeable. I wouldn't use them in any other room in the house though as I doubt the fragrance would travel all that well and in any case floral fragrances aren't really my thing. They're cheap and effective to a degree but certainly nothing to write home about and even though they have been around for years (I remember my grandmother having these in her home when I was a young boy) I don't think they've changed at all in that time and are still a cheap looking and cheap smelling product.

Anyone used to the likes of Yankee and fragranced oils from The Body Shop would never accept one of these as a substitute but for the loo they're fine and until I can find something better to have in mine I'll continue to buy them. Ok but nothing special would be the best I could come up with to describe the Glade Solid Gel and my 3 star overly-generous rating takes into account that I do continue to buy them on an occasional basis.

        Thanks for reading my review.

          Advantages

          Disadvantages

          Good value product

I needed some cheap air freshners for the loo to keep it smelling nice and purchased a couple of these because they were only a pound each in tesco. I got one in the lily of the valley scent and one in the relaxing zen scent. I much prefer the relaxing zen scent it smells more fruity and is stronger. All you need to do when you get these home is unpeel the sticker from the front of the plastic case and inside is a jelly which releases the fragrance. I put them on the back of the toilets and let them do their thing. The scent was lovely and strong but not overpowering for at least a month then it started to weaken, but if you go close up to it, it still smells nice for months afterwards. A great air freshener for the price, I will definitely be purchasing these again.

          Advantages

          Disadvantages

Reasonably priced air freshener but personally I hate the smell!

I have bought these air fresheners a few times in the past and to be honest I'm not sure why I bought them a few times as I knew by the first time I didn't like them! They are made by the well known household name of Glade and this fragrance is Lily of the Valley although I am somewhat dubious as to how they can claim that!

There is no packaging on the item as such. The actual product is on the shelf how it would be displayed once you get it home bar the actual paper strip which you need to peel off once you want to open it. It's good from a recycling point of view that there's no extra packaging as it would be unnecessary.

The actual fragranced gel stick is encased in a white plastic object with many slits in the front to enable the smell to come through. When you want to open it you just peel off the front label which is very easy to do as there is a bit already done for you and you just grab that to pull. The first thing I noticed was an irritating flowery smell that just got under my nose straight away! I almost found it tickling my nose a bit. I also didn't like the smell at all, it seemed very artificial and didn't have any subtle sides to the smell, just strong artificial flowers.

Unfortunately I did actually find that this air freshener lasted quite a while in my bathroom, a good couple of months. Typical that I find one that lasted alright time wise but I didn't like the smell! But I don't know if because the smell irritated me that I felt it lasted longer than others do just because I kept thinking about it! Although the smell of the gel continued for longer than the average one, I did think the edges of the gel dried up quite quickly and looked a bit nasty sooner than I would have hoped.

These are available to buy in most supermarkets and cost £1 in Tescos and sometimes about 89p in places like B&M Bargains.

          Advantages

          Disadvantages

An average solid air freshener from Glade.

I love to keep my home smelling and looking good at all times and I use numerous products to scent my home. I use scented candles, air fresheners, gels and almost anything else I can find that is said to keep a home smelling nice. I use 'solid' gels in my bathroom as I find that these keep working for a few weeks, are easy to wipe dust off and they blend in well enough in the corner of my bathroom.

This is a white plastic air freshener with a solid gel inside, the colour of the gel is dependant on the scent chosen and in the past I have used Lavender and Lily of the Valley, with Lavender being my preferred favourite for my bathroom. This has a thick bottom so I usually just stand it up on a ledge beside my toilet. To use this I simply have to peel off a sticky label from the front which then exposes the numerous holes on the front and the air freshener gel starts releasing its scent.

The scent of this is reasonable without being overpowering and while lavender can sometimes seem a little 'old lady' or 'sleepy' I find that this is just enough to keep my bathroom smelling nice when visitors first enter it. You can definitely tell that this is lavender and I do not really pick up any other scent just a light lavender scent.

The gel inside these shrinks down over time and while it does not keep the scent going for months I find that I forget to replace them straight away as while the scent is no longer obvious there is really no huge visual reminder such as an empty container, as you would get with different air fresheners.

Overall I would rate these as an average 3/5. The scent is not strong, it runs down quickly and there are much better products out there, even gels like these, available for cheaper and that work better.

            Advantages

            Disadvantages

We've thrown ours out now and I wouldn't buy this again

It isn't often that we spend money on goods which disappear of their own accord, without any outside interference from anyone. Glade Solid is just such a product and I removed a white plastic container from the high window shelf in our en-suite just the other day. I reckon it's been there over a year and has long since lost its evil pong - in our case, Lavender, but it comes in a variety of niffs.

I have never liked these things. Sometimes the smell of a masking agent struggling to cope with a poo smell is worse then the poo smell itself. Far better to open the window and/or poo in someone else's toilet.

My wife bought this way back when and thought it would make her precious en-suite smell fresh while shutting me up, continually moaning about sprays. It did smell for a bit, but I hardly ever spent any time in the en-suite because I tend to use the main bathroom for ablutions so its presence hasn't really bothered me that much.

I remember when first installing this on the window sill, all I had to do was peel off the sticker off the front of the cheap looking plastic container and in so doing expose some holes through which the fearful anti-pong pong could make its escape and pervade the atmosphere. The unit has a flat base on which it stands.

If you unclip the two sections of the container you can see that you start off with a decent sized wedge of solid but yielding gel that gradually over time shrivels to a shadow of its former self. It's rather like life itself........but more or less smelly, depending on your point of view.

The advantage of this product is that you can tuck it away somewhere and have it do its stuff silently and relentlessly.

The downside is that once you remove the seal, it's on all the time and will carry on releasing its smell whether you want it to or not. Seems a bit of a waste to me. Also, because it is a slow release gel, it doesn't cope well with stinky smells from monster dreadnoughts or curry-induced splatterings, when in order to cope, some additional more acceptable freshener pongs need to be drafted in, leaving the Glade Solid playing only a minor supporting role.

I really don't like this stuff. When freshly opened, the smell is really too strong, yet within a couple of weeks it seems scarcely noticeable. As I say, just open the window!

              Advantages

              Disadvantages

              Disapointing!

Recently I had my living room all decorated, I scrubbed the carpet, washed the curtains the whole lot. As a smoker (and my bestmate/flatmate is one too).... yet alone our visitors the room badly needed sorting out and given a face lift and it got it big time thanks to my boyfriend who is a professional painter and decorator with his own buisness! The room is now a none smoking one and the finishing touch was to get it a nice air freshener to help get rid of the paint smell and to keep it smelling sweet!

I spotted this air freshener in Asda costing 88p and I opted for one fragranced with vanilla as it is usually a rather strong scent in my opinion and one that I like too.

              The Air Freshener Itself:

Well the air freshener is made from white plastic and is a tall sort of oblong shape with a wider section to the bottom of it so it can stand upright really well. It has 27 holes to the front of it and through that I can see the light yellow solid gel through them and then on the back of the air freshener there is engraved in raised white writing telling us that it is a SC Johnson product. When you first get the product it has a label that you gently peel off the front of it to keep the scent within the air freshener and therefore fresh. Mine being the vanilla fragrance one had a white and yellow label with a photograph of a flower on the front of it and I was told it was Glade Magnolia & Vanilla 'Long Lasting Freshness' and that again it was a Johnson product and the weight of it was stated which is 150g (and the only size I have ever seen this available to purchase in by the way).

The scent of this when sniffed up close is simply lovely and rather rich. It really does smell of flowers blended nicely with a soft, sensual vanilla and its sweet enough without being sickly and to me there is a hint of a coconut aroma to it...whatever the scent is it really is refreshing and nice in my opinion.

However sadly the aroma of this can only be detected by me when sniffed directly opposed to it creating fragrance in a room and for me this does nothing at all.

Add to that, that although this stands nicely enough the gel does harden over time and shrink within the container slightly, the plastic is a right dust catcher but these do retain gel in them for months upon months, just sadly it never is very fragrant at all.

Lovely fragrance but this doesn't do alot really for me or my room!

Available in all good supermarkets etc.

                Advantages

                Disadvantages

Alright if you tuck it behind something, could do with something extra to make it more noticeable.

I own the Glade Lavender Air Fresher block and have had it since I moved into my current house 6 months ago. I bought it as I wanted my room to smell fresh through-out the day.

I bought this from my local Sainsbury's store for about £1, maybe more but it was a while ago that I bought it. It comes as a white plastic container with a sticker on the front that has the Glade logo and an explanation of the product. The air freshener is 15cm tall by 8cm wide and 5cm deep. To open it up for use you peel off the front sticker to expose and a series of holes on the front with a purple gel like substance behind it. All you have to do now is place it wherever you want.

Initially I placed mine by my window so that when my window was open the smell wafted through my room. This did work to an extent as at first I did notice the lavender smell which was very nice but after a while I think I got used to it and didn't notice it as much. As the winter drew in, I moved it to on top of my wardrobe, where it still resides. I don't notice the smell of it any more but I do find that there are rarely any bad odours in my room. On top of my wardrobe it is not noticeable and it stays up there easily as it has a flat base on the plastic casing. The gel inside it has now shrunk to be about a fifth of the size it originally was. This must mean that it is constantly releasing a fragrance into the air. To of lasted this long I am very happy. I would of expected it to only last a couple of months.

I would advise you not to sniff it up close though as the smell that close reminds me of public toilets! The plastic casing is not the most aesthetically friendly, however it can be tucked away into corners or behind objects to make it less noticeable.

For the price, it is good value for money as it lasts a long time and keeps the room smelling reasonably fresh, however as it does last so long, you become accustomed to the smell and so don't notice it any more. The lavender smell from a distance is nice and refreshing and does a good job of masking any bad odours but I think it needs something extra in it to make it stand out as a great product. For the job it does it is fine, but if you want something that looks good and is noticeable then this is probably not the product for you, however if you want something cheap that does an adequate job then this is worth trying.

When I bought it, it came in a couple of different fragrances. I assume there are others now but you would have to check your local shops to be certain.

Overall, this will get a 3/5 because the container isn't too nice, it isn't noticeable after a while and the smell up close isn't nice.

                  A decent product for 89p

                  Intro

We've just had out bathroom done and now that I have finished what decorating was required it all looks rather spiffing what. Everything is bright and new so when on our shopping on Saturday I decided we also needed a change in fragrance. We got a new duck thing for the actual toilet, and it does give off a nice smell but I was looking for something more lasting, since after the flush this doesn't last too long.

We have used gel fragrances before I found them to be pretty good especially in the lasting stakes, so when I spied this glade gel air freshener for 89p I thought it was a good deal, an added benefit was it was off one of my preferred fragrances............lavender. It does come in other fragrances such as Lily of the Valley.

I've named this section unit and it probably is classed as such, it's just that I usually picture a unit as something a bit sturdier. It a flimsy plastic casing, which is sort of trapezium, shaped with a rounded rear, and as like lavender I am also partial to a rounded rear.

It s its perhaps 5 inches high, and 4 wide so it is of substantial size. A sticky floral patterned sticker covers the majority of the front, and when removed reveals that the front of the unit is grilled. It also enables you to see the large lilac coloured gel pad hidden inside; well it was hidden until I removed the sticky cover. The product description says this is a solid and I suppose it is but it is certainly more of a gel.

                  The Fragrance

Once the cover is removed it is then you get the full effect of the gel, before this it is evident but only hinted at. It is quite a powerful lavender scent that is emitted and it certainly doesn't take long until the bathroom if filled with a nice smell. Our bathroom isn't really that big, but I feel that even had it been a fair bit bigger the odour would have still been strong enough to fill it.

For the first few days I suppose it would be fair to say that it is a bit overpowering, and kind of rules the bathroom, after this time however it strength does diminish and it becomes more pleasant, not that it is anywhere near unpleasant originally just perhaps a bit strong.

                  Summary

I think this is another 89p well spent and it lasts for ages, the labelling says 60 days but I don't think that is realistic, a month is probably nearer the mark. This would have been a far better product had a bit more care and effort went into the unit which houses the gel, it just looks and feels a bit cheap, however effective it might be. I like it none the less, but I fear her indoors will over rule any chance of a further purchase. Still it's well worth 89p.

                    Advantages

                    Disadvantages

Waste of time buying this as the smell doesn't last

This Glade air freshner is very simple and therefore usually very cheap to buy. I have bought a few of these in the past and think I only paid about 50p for one and you do get what you pay for which is not very much.

It is a very basic air freshner as it is a simple white container and the solid gel is inside with some holes for the smell to come through. It is very boring to look at and doesn't look anything special but what can you expect for 50p. When you first peel of the label the smell is quite distinctive and the Lly of the Valley fragrance is nice and fresh and flowery and reminds me of summer and I initially thought that these were going to be great value for money. The smell was quite strong to start with so I was totally disappointed when I found that the smell wears off really quickly and I couldn't smell the air freshner at all after a day or two so it was a complete waste of time having them. The gel in them eventually shrinks away but the smell of mine disappeared long before the gel started shrinking.

I would not recommend this as it is a waste of money and buying a more expensive air freshner that actually works would be much better value for money.

                    Advantages

                    Disadvantages

                    Not a bad air freshener.

As I have said in previous reviews I love scented candles and incense sticks to fragrance my home but I don't like leaving them burning unattended in my porch. I recently bought a Glade solid air freshener from Tesco which cost 96p. Glade Air Fresheners are made by Johnson.

                    The packaging
Well its simple really, it is just a white plastic container with holes in the front. These holes are covered by the label. this has Glade written on it and the scent. The one I bought is Lily Of The Valley. It has a picture of the flower on the front too. This label is sticky, you simply peel it of to release the fragrance from inside.

                    The Gel
The actual air freshener is a solid green gel. It gradually shrinks and dries up over time. The smell of the Lily Of The Valley glade solid is very strong. Its obviously a floral smell and does smell exactly like the flower. I love flowery fragrances and white flowers, and Lily of the Valley is one of my favourites. The scent soon fills the porch and creeps into the lounge too.

                    Does it last?
Glade state that this solid air freshener should fragrance your home for up to 1 month. Its true that the gel does still smell at 1 month but it is very faint and you really have to get up quite close.

I am pleased with the Glade solid that I bought but I don't think this particular air freshener would be suitable for a lounge or larger area because the scent soon starts to fade.

Its ideal for my porch and I love coming into my front door and being greeted by the smell of Lily Of The Valley. It would also be ideal for a small loo or cupboard.

The Glade solid can be bought in three other scents they are Magnolia, Lavender and Vanilla. Details can be found at www.airwick.co.uk/Air-Fresheners

                    Advantages

                    Disadvantages

Good value for money and quality.

A nice smelling home is very important to me as I have pets and I do not like it when I have been out for the day and returned and it smells a little stale and although most households do smell that way it is far worse when you have pets.

I have been buying this one for some time and found it very good and I bought it for only £1 from my local store recently and it was on special offer, and it comes in a white plastic container that stands on a windowsill or anywhere you need to place one for a fresh smell.

It has a pull off plastic sticker on the front and once removed the container has holes at the front and behind the holes is thick solid gel and the smell comes out of the holes and goes into the air, the smell is a nice pleasant pine fragrance and it makes the room smell nice and fresh constantly.

It is long lasting and I have found it lasts for approximately 3 weeks and so it is very good value for a constant fragrance.

They are ideal around the home and in pet areas and also in the bathroom, I keep one near my kitchen bin and so it smells nice in that area too, I have them all around the home and I like one near the telephone area and so when I am on the telephone I can smell the fragrance as it is in the hallway and there are no windows and so placing one there is just perfect in my home.

When I walk past one I can instantly smell it and the container is easily recycled when the gel is finally gone as it goes smaller as the gel is used in the air and then it can just be thrown away.

The gel is a bright green colour and so it looks attractive wherever it is placed.

I have found them very good value and super quality for the money and they work well and I also think they work much better in a smaller room as I have to place 2 in my lounge as it is a bigger room and one is not enough to be able to smell it in the whole room.

It is made by a well known manufacturer Johnson and they have been around for many years and make lots of good quality products.

They are available in different fragrances, Lavender, Magnolia & Vanilla and also Lily of the Valley and my favourite is the latter.

I highly recommend this one for anyone to give it a try as I do not think you would be disappointed at all in my opinion.

                    I give it 5 stars.

Thank you for reading my review.

                      Advantages

                      Disadvantages

Maybe next time I will use a plug in.

I just love anything that makes the indoor air smell sweet and I can often be found hanging over a bargain basket in Wilkinson's sorting through the air freshening products that have been reduced in price. One thing that never fails to fascinate me is the way that we can now buy seasonal air freshening products, I think this is a really novel idea.

Neither of us smoke indoors and now for the first time in many years we have no pets but if the house is all shut up for any length of time you can still sense that the air becomes stale and unwelcoming. In this country we aren't often blessed with good long summers, if the sun shines and we are indoors we can feel free to fling the windows wide open but we go through long periods when that just isn't an option.

The whole range of air freshening products that are made available to us now is just fantastic, we have plug-ins, touch and fresh sprays, air infusions, circulair, scented candles and aerosols and I am sure that my list is not a comprehensive one.
Like us all I buy according to my budget, one week I may be rich and invest in one of the more sophisticated air fresheners and then another pay day may see me heading off in the direction of the bargain basement - that's life !

I must admit that I haven't bought a solid air freshener for a very long time, I have seen many on offer in Poundland and Instore but I usually bypass them in favour of the fancier types.
We have a small lobby and this always seems to be the place where the boots and shoes get kicked off and left laying about and in the warm weather those smelly trainers just honk !
At that point reality kicked in, common sense prevailed and I came to the conclusion that a solid air freshener should be able to cope in that small lobby.

Glade solid is not the beauty of the bunch by any means but to compensate there are three fragrances, magnolia and vanilla, lavender and lily of the valley.
I like lavender anything so that suited me down to the ground. Glade solid is presented in a plain white plastic casing that has a flat bottom so that it stands up. Inside of the tall white casing there is a solid block of gel but to stop the gel withering away in storage the pre- pierced plastic casing is covered over with a sticky label, which you need to remove.

When you first remove the sticker the lavender aroma is really strong and the block of gel is sizeable. I put my Glade solid on the small window ledge in the lobby area and for the first couple of days I did notice a subtle change in the air as I walked through the front door.
Solid air fresheners are notorious for just curling up and dying and in fact my Glade solid started to shrivel fairly quickly. Within the space of four days I think it would be kind to say that my block of lavender gel had become a shadow of its former self and I felt a bit miffed !
The remaining block of gel continued to shrink and harden but in all fairness it was still giving out a decent enough scent.
I paid something like 95p for my Glade solid, so not a bank breaking purchase, it lasted nigh on two weeks give a day or two and then the gel just completely died on me. During the first week the lobby certainly smelled better and far fresher but the effect started to wane by the time we had started week 2.

Glade Solid air fresheners - maybe with all the latest and greatest air freshening products that we have aimed at us now we are just spoilt for choice. I am not saying that I would never buy one again but it wouldn't be my first choice.
