Glade discreet I was at a friends house recently and when I asked how the house smelt so nice she pointed me in the direction of this little thing. Knowing that, I then went out to buy one. They are clearly called discreet because that's exactly what they are- discreet and barely there. I have a sensor air freshened and whilst it is very effective it does look quite big sitting on the window sill. This one is a small rectangle plastic shape with a slatted front obviously for the smell to come through. It comes packaged with a plastic cover and all of the information and instructions on the card backing. Inside the packaging is the unit and also one of the plastic aroma things wi Hitch goes inside. To set it up is really simple. All I have to do is take the smelly part and peel off the foil, which is very easy to do, and it comes off in one piece. Once the smelly part is released from its foil, it should be pushed from the bottom up into the unit ensuring the part free of the foil is pointing outwards. When it is set up, which takes merely minutes then it should be plugged into an electrical socket and left to do its work. I have the clean linen fragrance and after about an hour of it being in the hallway at the top of the stairs I could definitely start to smell the scent, which was very pleasant, nice and light and fresh. Because it has to scent the hallway and the stairs it is a very subtle smell but I would imagine that in a more confined space the smell could be quite strong and would definitely be a smell you would have to like. For me the intensity of the fragrance was sufficient on the stairs and in the hallway. When the refill needs changing the gel goes hard and obviously there's no more smell so it's easy to know when a refill is needed. The RRP is I think around the £5 mark and this includes a refill. However I bought mine from my local bargain store for half this price so as ever it's worth shopping around. I Have also seen the units available in supermarkets. VERDICT... This is an effective air freshened and does give a nice fragrance. The refills are around the £2 mark and with it on constantly, it lasts around 6 weeks or so, which means for me it's good value And more pleasant than spraying a fragrance as the smell is more consistent. The fact that it plugs into the socket and sits flush to the wall means that it is very discreet. It is best to place it on an open wall because then the fragrance is able to be easily spread round the room. Worth the money. Thanks for reading Daniela xx
With owning hamsters and being a smoker I get paranoid about how my home smells and I get through an awful of air fresheners on a weekly basis. With my parents coming to visit this week I have been revamping my home a bit and trying to make it more cosy and comfortable and so when I saw these on sale for £3.00 each instead of closer to £4.00 each in my local Asda store I bought one instantly. There were a couple of different fragrances to choose from and the one I have plugged in now and with the packaging in front of me is the lavender and jasmine fragrance which I bought for my living room. The Packaging: This comes in see through plastic packaging with cardboard backing and on the cardboard there is lots of pictures of lavender and jasmine blossoms on there and we are told that it is Johnson's Glade 'Soothing Lavender & Jasmine' and that it has a 'Sleek profile' unit and we are told and shown where you get the unit we are told and shown via diagrams how to use it. On the back of the packaging we are told a bit about the product and warnings are given (as well as in foreign languages too) and contact details for the manufacturer are listed. Nice enough and not too much packaging here thankfully. Using It: Well what you get is a sleek and rather modern design of plug in. The front of it is a square piece of white plastic with four lines to the front of it and you get a backed piece of lilac coloured gel that you pull out off a piece paper and side it into the unit which is easy and mess free and then turn the unit on. There is nothing to think about with this unit. No up and down switches, no on and off switch. You simply plug it in and we are promised up to 30 days of fragrance and rather a few days in with this constantly on....yep its still dispensing a rather strong fragrance of lavender throughout my home. I really like this unit. It looks nice and doesn't get too hot which is a worry with plastic being plugged into the mains. The smell is fresh and not one bit sickly and dispenses constant fragrance which is definitely more of a lavender fragrance than anything else and this, from me gets full marks on design and fragrance! Available in all good supermarkets etc. This review is also posted on Ciao under this same username.
Just wanted to comment on the packaging for this product. After seeing it on a TV ad i thought i would buy one. On getting it home the difficulty was opening the packaging. When i finally took the scissors to the cardboard i cut straight through the instructions. What a silly place to put them. There is plenty of room on the back for these. I almost cut into the gel, luckily i didnt as the product would have been useless.Nice product nice smell terrible packagingLynn Webblynnwebbos1@sky.com
I'm a real fan of home fragrancing and enjoy using different scents dependent upon the time of year and my mood at any given time. Whilst I favour Yankee Candles I tend to use them more often throughout the winter months, particularly as in addition to their gorgeous aroma they provide a comforting and very relaxing ambience. My favourite format for home fragrances during the summer time is electric plug-ins and several months ago I discovered a newly introduced product from Glade which is owned by Johnson. Its' name is Discreet and this review discusses my experience with using the product. APPEARANCE OF THE PRODUCT The product most definitely lives up to its' name and that is discreet. It is presented to us in an oblong shaped piece of cardboard with a transparent plastic covering that secures the product together with the refill. The three prongs of the 12g plug can be witnessed on the reverse of the packaging where we are provided with a considerable amount of product information. The front of the sturdy white plastic plug-in measures approximately 8 cm square and is of a very sleek and contemporary design. It consists of five curvy lines with a narrow gap in between each to enable the fragrance to be released into your home. What I particularly liked about this product, particularly when making my first purchase, is that there is a circular scratch and sniff area located on the front. This is of great benefit, as a real bug bearer of mine is purchasing a new product only to discover that I dislike the scent when I get home. My first choice of fragrance was the Soothing Lavender and Jasmine, which are both very calming and relaxing fragrances and perfect for inducing a good night's sleep. USING THE PLUG IN Unlike some of the other brands I purchase I do not need to be a member of Mensa to work out how to get into the packaging, as I simply need to tear the cardboard at the reverse to remove both the unit and refill. I've always been used to quite cumbersome units where I have to slot in glass perfume bottles, which have to be carefully avoided when vacuuming to prevent the bottles from detaching themselves and falling to the floor. I was quite amazed when I first removed the unit from its' packaging, as it is very compact and neat and with the exception of the three prongs at the reverse its' depth is just 1 cm. The refill is 7 cm squared and contained within sturdy transparent plastic packaging with a soft membrane on the one side. Its' consistency can be described as being somewhere between a gel and liquid format and as the fragrance I am currently using is a combination of lavender and jasmine it is a beautiful shade of purple. I simply need to peel off the protective foil covering by way of a small lift up tab located in one of the corners and push the refill tightly into the unit with the flat edge situated at the front. The stunning aroma was evident the moment I removed the covering and as I had sampled the scent using the scratch and sniff I was aware that it delivered a natural aroma as opposed to a nasty imitation. The unit is now ready to be plugged into your electrical socket and unlike other brands I have used there is no switch to select your desired strength of fragrance. Whilst all other brands of plug-ins can appear rather unsightly and often spoil the appearance of a room, the unit blends in perfectly with the décor. I use mine in the socket situated at the top of my landing to enable the fragrance to find its' way into my bathroom and bedrooms and create a relaxing and comforting aroma. The fragranced is long lasting and whilst not overpowering, is strong enough to deliver the scent to almost the entire upstairs of my home. The beauty of this design is that if you need to pull it out of the socket there is no need to balance it in an upright position as there is nothing to spill, as the gel is securely located inside its' protective covering. There are no directions advising that the plug-in needs to be removed overnight, which is generally the case with other designs. The beautiful fragrance lasts me for approximately 3 - 4 weeks with continuous use and I cannot state that I have noticed it fading, as I replace the refill when the gel begins to dry, which is easily detectable by its' cracking appearance. OTHER INFORMATION There are a number of warnings contained on the reverse of the packing such as avoid contact with the skin and keep out of reach of pets. Whilst my cat is no longer with us I am a little unsure how a pet owner would be able to use this product, particularly as all electric sockets in the home are normally situated very low to the ground other than those in the kitchen. The packaging and refill can be recycled once empty. PRICE AND AVAILABILITY This unique product can be purchased from most supermarkets and until 12 July 2011 you can purchase from Tesco both the unit and refill for £2.99 as opposed to the normal price of £5.99, which in my opinion is a little excessive. Glade Discreet is available in three fragrances, namely Clean Linen, Exotic Fruits and Lavender and Jasmine. Refills can be purchased at £2.69 each. If I were to rate this product solely on its' performance, design and ease of use it would receive 5 stars from me, but due to its' excessive price it loses 1 star. However, I can fully recommend this product and provided I can purchase at the lower price I will continue to use it to deliver a relaxing and beautiful scent to my home. I hope you found my review useful and would thank you for reading.
