a nice smelling candle, but wouldn't pay more than the 3 quid

After discovering yankee candles on dooyoo I have slightly grown a bit of a love for scented candles around the home. I used to buy some from a brand called Partylite and would pick up the odd candle in Ikea but these always smelt a lot better upon sniffing the jar than actually lighting them and letting the aroma fill the room. I saw this glade air wick candle in my local Wilkinsons and so grabbed a jar called White Vanilla Bean. - Packaging - Air Wick Candles come in a small square glass jar which is really durable and thick. It is filled with thick waxy candle up to about three quarters of the jar. The jar is covered in thin cardboard packing which can easily be torn off and discarded. - My experience - Air wick advertise the ribbon scented candle as "packed full of indulgent essential oils. When lit, the Ribbons melt to release a burst of intense fragrance that fills your whole room." I found the candle a bit tricky to light the wick as it was quite thin flimsy and would just flop down into the candle wax so took some manoeuvring. The vanilla bean scent is "smooth blend of white vanilla sprinkled with essence of fresh coconut and a touch of magnolia and musk" which I found did warm up our home and gave it a nice soft smell in our home throughout these cold winter evenings. The essences of coconut and vanilla really complimented each other exotically and spread a really warm, clean feeling throughout our living room. We live in a small 2 bedroom flat and tend to keep all the front room/bedroom doors etc open so where we light this in the front room, the smell is naturally there predominantly but can be appreciated subtly in the bedroom down the hall. One annoying thing about this candle is that I just leave it to burn, and found that after some time the candle just stopped burning! We didn't blow on it, use a candle snuffer and there was no sudden gust of wind, but we just found the flame would dwindle and eventually disappear. It was easy enough to re-light but just considered it odd it would do such a thing! - Overall - Overall we really liked this candle and would definitely buy them again. We have had this some time now and probably burnt it about 5 hours a day and the wax has not dramatically gone down. They come in other scents: Smooth Satin & Moon Lily, White Vanilla Bean, Purple Lavender Meadow and Oriental Spice & Sandalwood. These can be quite costly and I have seen it for around £6 in Sainsburys but got mine for a decent £3 which is good value and for this price I'd recommend them.

      A well rounded fragranced candle

As we have a dog I always have a scented candle going in the lounge to attempt to cover the dog smell up and at Christmas I decided to try the Air Wick's Ribbons Scent candles as they were on offer at just £3 at Tesco and I wanted a more festive smell. I opted for the Mulled Wine and Crackling Fire at the time but have since tried the Pink Sweet Pea, Smooth Satin and Moon Lily and White Vanilla Bean. Air Wick Product and Claims Air Wick Ribbon Candles are an "innovative scented candle is designed to infuse your whole room with luxurious fragrance". Air Wick say that these candles layer up essential oils so as your burn through the candle these release a burst of fragrance. The candles are presented in a small square glass jar, which I have found can be used a nice simple tea light holders when the candle is finished. The jar's are strong and look nice. The candle fills these jars just over ¾ full. The Ribbon Candle range includes the fragrances:- Mulled Wine & Cracking Fire - "A rich blend of cinnamon and nutmeg finished with sensual amber and warm woods". Pink Sweet Pea - "Delight your senses with full bloom pink sweet pea and fresh melon, accented by a burst of sun ripened raspberry" Smooth Satin and Moon Lily - "Experience the enticing, floral notes of Moon Lily, and slip away to a luxurious worlds of satin sheets and delicate perfume" White Vanilla Bean - ""smooth blend of white vanilla sprinkled with essence of fresh coconut and a touch of magnolia and musk Verdict The Pink Sweet Pea and Smooth Satin were my favourites. They have subtle fragrances that really filled the room and they lasted for ages. They smelt natural and light. However the Mulled Wine and White Vanilla Bean were far too strong and had a chemical tone to them. The White Vanilla Bean in particular was overally strong and you could only pick up on the vanilla and not the magnolia and musk! Overall the candles (Sweet Pea and Smooth Satin) in mind are great fragranced candles that fill your home with a light natural fragrance they do smell of what they are supposed to. The Pink Sweet Pea does smell of sweet peas and you get a random hit of raspberry, and the Smooth Satin is a perfume tone mixed with fresh linen. Usually costing around £4.50 they are a reasonable price and last a long time. As the candle has ribbons of essential oil running through it as they are reached you get a different dimension to the smell which stops you from getting used to it.

A sturdy candle that enhances decor and smells great.

Two of my dogs have recently had surgery and so are having to stay indoors more than usual to recover. Their 'dog hospital' smell is pretty strong and horrible and I'm aware that it mustn't be very pleasant for visitors either. I have been using candles for a couple of months to get rid of the dog smells but have increased use in the past couple of weeks - burning several large candles at once to enhance the atmosphere. One of the candles I recently tried was the Airwick Ribbons Scent Candle. They have a selection of fragrances but I chose their 'Smooth Satin and Moon Lily' because it sounded exotic and I also liked the colour of the candle. This is one of the largest scented candles I have bought and comes in a giant, heavy square glass container which is sized 180g. The candle is white with pale pink stripes or 'ribbons' running through it. These stripes are angled so that as well as looking unusual the candle releases the fragrance from the pink wax at different intervals. The candles comes wrapped in a cardboard packet which you just tear off. The packaging has some information printed on it. There are contact addresses on the base of the packet and warnings printed on one side too. Having read through the warnings they are actually quite dramatic. They state that this candle is very harmful to aquatic organisms and may cause long term side effects if used around aquariums. There is also a warning that this candle could trigger and allergic reaction. The packaging tells me that this candle gives up to 30 hours of burning time. The wick is long but mine did not require trimming. I noticed when I lit this that the melting candle wax looked different to how my other usual candles appear. The wax in this candle looks more shiny and almost like icing sugar. It's very obviously full of oil and this is the 'essential oils' that Airwick infuse into the wax. The wax looks runnier and hotter though because it's thinner so be careful not to spill or move the candle. Although I liked the terminology used to describe the scent of the candle I had no idea what 'Moon Lily' was or how satin could smell of anything! Airwick actually comment that the Moon Lily is a flower. There is a picture of a trumpet shaped white flower on the packaging so I assume this is a moon lily. They describe the fragrance as being able to make you feel as though you are in a "luxurious world of satin sheets". I find the fragrance very delicate but effective. I'd describe it as being sweet like coconut and cream. The fragrance fills the room and successfully masks any unpleasant odours. It makes the room feel lively and lived in and I feel confident about having people visit when I have the candle burning. With a lot of candles I find that the wax does not burn all the way on one side of the container but this burned very evenly. You should stop burning the candle when there is less than 1cm of wax left or the glass may become too hot and crack or explode (this actually happened to me with a Glade candle so I'm more careful now). I would definitely recommend this candle to anyone as it can work as an ornamental piece as well as smelling great and helping to control horrible house odours. It's good value for money as you get all you can get out of it since the wax burns evenly. It also lasts a long time (30 hours approximately). Mine was £3 reduced and I would gladly pay this special offer price again. The usual retail price is supposed to be £6. Although the candle is good I'm not sure I would like to pay that much! www.airwick.co.uk

A Beautiful fragrance and a simple candle.

I was off sick for a couple of weeks at work and was dreading going back. Knowing that I would have over 2 weeks of outstanding work was enough to make me feel ill all over again. I walked in and sat down, literally feeling the motivation sink out of me second by second. I switched on my computer and looked at the screen hoping that the fire alarm would go off to spare me a few more minutes before I saw the 500 emails, 50 voicemails and a piling over in-tray. I opened the draw of my pedestal cabinet to get out my notebook and other office equipment. (Biscuits being vital of course). To my surprise this gorgeous warming fragrance suddenly poured out of the draw. I was actually taken by surprise. It was a warming comforting smell and for the life of me I had no idea what it was. There was a Tesco bag neatly places in the draw which I took out and to my endearing surprise there was an attractive looking candle with a bright yellow post it note stuck to it. 'To Hollie, hope you feel better, love Michelle'. What a wonderful lady! And an even better surprise. Michelle is a work colleague, not even an out of work friend. But this thoughtful action was a generous and kind thought. Nothing huge or a big gesture. Just a tiny little surprise that made coming back to work seems ok. The candle she gave me was an 'Airwick Essential Oils Fragranced Candle'. This particular one was the Warming Berries & Spice fragrance. The deep red candle was in a simple round glass holder and about the size of a medium apple. The glass is quite thick and could easily be used to home tea lights or other candles once the original one is finished. The candle comes packaged in a cardboard sleeve which exposes half the candle. So the aroma filled my draw and was bursting out of the bag by the time I got to it. The candle itself it pretty average in how it works. You light it up and it burns away. The average burning time is about 20 hours although it is really hard to tell how long it actually lasts. So far I half used mine about 3 times a week for an hour, over the past 3 weeks and all it has is a small dip in the middle. So yes, the usage is just like an average candle. But what makes this different is the fragrance. The stunning fragrance of berries and spice doesn't start 20 minutes after the candle has been burning, it starts as soon as you buy (or in my case receive) the candle. Even when the candle isn't burning, if you keep the candle nearby you can smell the fruity scent. When the candle is burning that's when the real magic begins. The warm berry and spice sent flats around the room. Creating a warm and delicious cosy atmosphere. It almost wraps you up with a blanket of fragrance. This fragrance in particular is brilliant for the cold weather because of its cosy quality. The scents are very Christmas like and I cannot wait to light it up on Christmas day for a real traditional homely smell. Mixed with the smell of Turkey and Pine, it is going to smell like a good old fashioned Christmas! The candle costs £3.43 and can be purchased from most large supermarkets and also online. I think it is well worth the money as it acts like a home fragrance, a pretty decoration and a great mood setting candle. Plus, as I said before, you can reuse the pretty glass jar. Air Wick also sell other fragrances in this range. The one that I really would like to try is Rich Vanilla and Caramel Swirl. Just the thought is enough to make my mouth water. I would 100% recommend this candle. It warmed my heart as a little gift and warmed my home as a beautiful fragranced candle.

Lovely smelling candle that creates a warm and welcoming smell within any room in your home

I am a huge fan of scented candles/smelly candles. From stores own brand to Yankee candles. Although they can be a bit pricey I decided to go for an Air Wick Ribbons scent - Touch of Luxury - Mulled wine and crackling fire. It was reduced to £3.00, and is normally £6.00 so I felt I was getting a real bargain. Upon getting home I promptly lit up my candle. After just a few seconds the scent began to air around my living room. I must admit though I didn't really get a strong scent at first but more of a musky scent that was initially a bit sickly. After letting it burn for over 2 hours I finally got a nicer scent, well at least one I was happier with. The scent I got after a couple of hours was more warm and more christmas like than the musky smell I had previously been getting from the candle. I used the candle on a day to day basis as it is supposed to last up to 30 hours, however unfortunately mine did not. Adding it up it lasted around 14 hours, or 1 week of having it on 2 hours every night. I have to say I was a little disappointed as I thought I would be getting something that lasted a little longer, but for the price I can not quibble too much. Overall I found the best thing about this scented candle though is that the scent/fragrance doesn't disappear as soon as you blow out the candle, it actually lingers awhile, giving you a few extra bursts of warm, sweet smelling wine. Even though it didn't last as long as I was expecting and was a bit sickly smelling at first I grew to love the scent and fragrance the candle gave off, it was very distinct, and yet soothing and relaxing. I will be purchasing another of these candles when they are next on offer, but don't feel I would buy them when they are at full price, as I just don't feel you are getting excellent value for money. Made by Reckitt Benckiser this candle is ideal for burning or just for ornamental purposes. Also reviewed under the username: lauzdoors

A good value beautiful scented candle

Airwick ribbon scent touch of luxury scented candle - Mulled wine and crackling fire Recently I have joined yet another site that was offering a freebie. By joining Airwick site I was given a voucher for one of these beautiful candles. I just had to print off the voucher and then hand it in at the checkout when paying for my shopping from my usual shop which in my case was Tesco. The candle comes in a lovely, very heavy square glass jar with a cardboard outer sleeve. The sleeve doesn't cover the candle entirely so you can sniff the candle prior to buying which I always like to do. The 'flavour' that I could get free was 'Mulled wine and crackling Fire' which is such a lovely festive smelling candle so i was quite delighted. Once you remove the outer cardboard sleeve you have a very classy looking square jar with a cream coloured candle which has pink waves running through it. It really does look a cut above the average scented candle that you can buy in the supermarkets and fits well with their claim that it provides a 'Touch of Luxury' but I read on the outer sleeve that this candle is surprisingly made in China The outer sleeve has instructions in four languages. The English version is at the top so saves you struggling through several to find the right language. It warns that the glass will get hot when the candle is burning and remain hot for some time afterwards. Do not use if the glass is damaged at all. If swallowed then seek medical advice and show them the cardboard sleeve (provided you have kept it in case of this emergency). The candle contains alpha-methyl cinnamal, benzyl Benzonate, Eugenol and cinnamal and may produce an allergic reaction. I have not had any reaction and nor has anyone else in the family that has been in the room while it has been burning. I am the only one who has lit the candle and blown it out each time. The candle is supposed to have a burn time of 30 hours and i have had it burning quite some time each day for at least two week but I haven't actually timed it accurately. I leave it burning for an hour or so at a time but sometimes do forget it and leave it longer if I am busy so I can't be sure of the precise times. As the candle burns the loveliest cinnamon and mulled wine smell fills the room. It is really very Christmassy and makes me feel quite festive while it is burning and for quite some time afterwards. We have had a number of visitors calling round and they have all commented on the lovely festive smell in our house. It smells like I have been making mulled wine or those orange pomanders with cloves stuck in them. I would definitely recommend buying one of these and burning it over this next week or two as it really does make you fell in the mood for Christmas. It is also a warming winter smell so great for these really cold days we are experiencing too. So if you are looking for a reasonably priced candle that is easy to find in a supermarket that looks very classy and smells wonderful then this is it. It should have cost £6 and I think at that price you do get your money's worth. With my new half price voucher it is great value but as a freebie it was wonderful. Thanks for reading.
