We decided to have a night away, somewhere fairly local, to celebrate my birthday recently. York is of course very festive around November time so we decided to get in the festive spirit early.
Early impressions of the hotel were good, set on a nice piece of land just outside the center, and a very welcoming old building.
My lowdown for the rest of the stay is as follows..
Initially, pretty terrible actually. We came across a few bad things early on..
1) Upon arrival we noticed 2 seperate sets of guests complaining at the front desk.
2) We arrived at our room to find the *surprise* presents my girlfriend had organised and paid for were not in our room. We enquired at the front desk about this and were assured they would arrive, which they did, about 30 minutes later.
3) Finding out our "Queensize" bed was actually two seperate beds pushed together, with a mattress protector thrown over to hide it. Instead of being apologetic, the lady on the desk pretty much seemed aware that fact and moved us on.
The rest of the stay the staff were nice and helpful enough.
Value: £89 Bed and Breakfast, on a Sunday night.
Sleep Quality: The *real* Queen beds were very nice. The bedding was good quality too. Outside noise was fairly minimal, a set of double doors near to our room were banging away until late on though.
Cleanliness: No qualms here, the room was spotless.
Location: Very good, a few minute's drive from the town center.
Rooms: Good size rooms with the usual desk, coffee table and chairs. Flat screen TV, Tea/Coffee facilites and an ironing board. Bathrooms were really small though.
Swimming pool: I didn't venture in but seeing it from the outside it looked a decent size, with a baby-friendly area and jacuzzi.
All in all we were pretty happy with our stay, after the initial hiccups.
4 star luxury hotel.
