The Windsor House Hotel is hands down the worst hotel weve ever stayed at. Their website is extremely misleading.
When we checked into the hotel, our double room (which we unfortunately had paid for in advance) was a tiny cubicle up four flights of steep, narrow stairs. There were about 12 inches of floor space on either side of the bed and about 30 inches between the end of the bed and the bathroom. In order to open the door to the hallway we had to place our suitcases on the bed. The bathroom was less than 3 feet square --- it looked like it came out of a steerage class cabin of a decrepit cruise ship --- you had to stand in the shower and bend over the toilet (complete with a broken seat) in order to use the sink. The sheets and towels were full of holes and the blankets were filthy. This certainly does not fit my interpretation of spacious and comfortable as they use to describe rooms on their website. We tried to get some of the problems corrected with the night manager but he flat out refused to help solve any of the problems.
Their website claims that the hotel is a beautiful Victorian building, which has retained its charm and many original features through the years. My wife truly felt like we were in the 1890s when she tried to plug in her curling iron...our room didnt have any electric outlets. The switch for the electric light in the bathroom was at baseboard level -- eally charming! We didnt miss having a TV since it was quite entertaining to watch the drain water from the shower run into the rain gutters outside and into the overgrown, weed-filled garden outside.
Morning breakfast consisted of a hard boiled egg and cold toast served in the basement...not exactly what we expected for an English breakfast.
This hotel is in a great location in London. We felt safe and loved being so close to the Earls Court tube station. Nearby are many nice bed and breakfast homes and small hotels that offer wonderful accommodations for a price similar to what Windsor House ripped us off for.
