“ Address: Belgrave Road / Ventnor / Isle of Wight / PO38 1JH „
The Wellington Hotel is a large Victorian structure overlooking the beach at Ventnor on the Isle of Wight. The building itself has been beautifully restored, and is fronted by a multitude of white balconies which are very attractive.
As a 3-Star hotel, the tariffs are mid-range, with a single room available from £80, and a twin or double from £110. The Wellington was named Les Routiers Hotel of the Year 2007 for the London and South East region.
The room I stayed in was small but clean and modern looking. A large glass door led onto a spacious balcony which had great views of the sea. Next-doors balcony was joined on, which didn't offer much privacy, and may have led to some awkward situations had the neighbours been out. This could have been easily remedied by placing some tall plants at the balcony sides, which would have rectified the problem. The locks on the balcony doors were broken, and they did in-fact swing open in the night, which was a little annoying.
The rooms don't have any tea or coffee making facilities or a mini-bar - either of which would have been a nice addition, although room service was available - albeit for a small fee. The television was small and the reception wasn't great but it was adequate. This is understandable, as the hotel is in a mid-cliff location- my phone was fooled into thinking it was in France, and kept asking to join a French network!
The en-suite bathroom was clean and featured a shower and a complimentary selection of shampoo's / shower gel's etc. A nice touch was the provision of slippers, which I presume you could take away with you.
Breakfast was very good, with a decent variety of food on offer. Tea, Coffee, fruit juices, cereals and croissants were all readily available. There was also a selection of self-service fried english breakfast items, which I of course made the most of.
I've heard the evening meals at the Wellington are good, but I didn't sample them myself. For those of you wanting to get a taste of Ventnor, the pleasant 'Met Tapas Bar' is situated just a short walk down on the Esplanade. Other places of interest nearby include the small shingly beach, cliff walks, and the Spyglass Inn which offers a good selection of pub food.
If you're a motorist, parking may be difficult as the hotel doesn't feature a carpark. There is a council run carpark fairly nearby, but it does involve a walk up an incredibly steep hill to get back to the hotel.
I would recommend the Wellington Hotel, and I enjoyed my short stay there. A few features could be addressed to make it a more pleasant stay, but overall it was a good experience - staff were friendly, and I didn't encounter any real problems.
In summary, the hotel features:

24 hour Front Desk
Express check-in and check-out
