I have to go to hotels all the time for courses at work and my latest venture was to the Corus Hotel in Solihull near to Birmingham. I was quite nervous as I had never driven to this area and I had heard that the Hotel used to be an exclusive Gentlemans club so I was quite interested in going and seeing what it was like and how it was set out. What I found was a nice Hotel with friendly staff and a lot of facilities and here is why. ----- The Corus Hotel: Set near to Birmingham the Hotel provides good links to railway stations and to the Birmingham international airport and to the N.E.C so it really is a good place to stay so you are central to everything. It is a chain of Hotels. ----- Location: The address is as follows; Stratford Road, Shirley, Solihull, B90 4EB. The Hotel is in a good location and me being scared of driving I found it very easily so I believe if I can find it then anybody can. It is set back from the road but it is a main road so you do get a lot of traffic from there. The Hotel is also buy the really nice towns of Solihull and Shirley which also house some very good bars and restaurants if you are making a time of it there. ----- Parking: The car park is huge so you will have no problem at all. ----- Appearance: From outside the Hotel looks impressive. There is a big glass walkway which looks really nice and the paint work s very clean and done nicely in cream. When I parked my car I even saw two squirrels and plenty of birds as there are trees and bushes around so it all looks very nice and welcoming. As you walk into reception it is all very clean and there is always somebody there to greet you which is nice and the staff are very helpful and answered all of my questions with ease. To the right there is a small bar which I sat in and quite happily waited for an hour for my course to start and ordered some tea and croissants to be bought to me which was very nice. The restaurant is also lovely with a lot of space and when I was there people were playing the keyboard and guitar so it had a lovely atmosphere. Then all of the toilets are clean and well stocked up which is great. I think the thing that struck me is that everything is so easy to find as well as I have problems in some Hotels. Everything is sign posted well and the whole Hotel is lovely. There are even grassy areas outside with benches so if the weather is nice it is nice to go and sit outside. ----- Bedrooms: The rooms are a decent size with everything you could need so obviously your bed, a bathroom and a small area to sit and eat or work or whatever you do. There is room service available but I didnt use and the rooms feel quite homely with decoration on the wall and a very relaxed feel about them. Now I hate sleeping in Hotels as the beds give me a bad nights sleep but here they were lovely and I felt the rooms were kept at a good temperature so I didnt get cold at all. They also provide you with a lot of bedding and if you want extra you can ask at reception and that will be fine. ----- Conference Rooms: The conference rooms are very good in the Corus Hotel and there are lots of them to be used. Our course used three and they were all huge with good facilities including free hot and cold drinks outside the room and also fruit and we had white chocolate cookies that were well appreciated by all as you can imagine. The Hotel provided us with projection equipment and even sent half hour setting it all up for it just emphasising how nice and helpful all of the staff are. ----- Leisure Facilities: The Hotel has a pool and a gym available for residents to use but I actually didnt get chance to use them as I was working on my course but I understand they are quite nice and they have a lot of machines to use which is always good to know. Our tutor also went in the pool and she said it was very warm water and just lovely. ---- Food: The Hotel is brilliant for food and they make sure you do not go hungry at all. I ate dinner there on the Sunday and it was £10 for a three course meal and they had the nicest choices. I had a vegetable soup which was yummy and then buttered cod and new potatoes which was delicious. Then apple crumble and custard which was just gooey gorgeousness. I heard that the breakfasts had good choices but I did not eat that so I couldnt tell you. ----- Prices: For a room it cost me £70 a night which is not too bad really. I think the cost depends on how you book as last minute you can obviously get some good deals and I think you can if you stay more than one night too. ----- Verdict: I really did like this Hotel and I think they do well at making sure you have a good experience with them as they are friendly and put on a good show. The staff are friendly and the food is really good and the rooms are nice and pretty standard to what you expect from a Hotel. With the addition of the leisure facilities and the amazing conference rooms I think you are onto a winner. I will give this Hotel top marks as it is really nice and as for it once being a gentlemans club, that must have been some nice club as the Hotel grounds are just amazingly nice. I would recommend to all those is this area. Thanks for reading. xxx
