I have just returned from two nights at this Hotel in the Ironbridge vicinity of Telford. I actually only live a few miles away but we were using the hotel as a venue for a conference which I was a key speaker at and therefore I checked myself in for the night before and the night of the main event.
From start to finish I was mighty impressed with this hotel. It is clearly geared towards catering for business and everything went very smoothly. One of the main things which appealed to us when looking at venues was the fact that this hotel has free, unlocked and unlimited wifi across the entire location. This is great for business people and I wish every hotel took the same stance on it!
I stayed in room number 222 which is in a wing near the breakfast/lunch restaurant and the conference facilities. Access to these rooms is by stairs only so not great for people with access problems, although the hotel does have enough rooms with no stairs for this not to be a problem. My room was very nice, finished to a good quality (what you would expect from a standard 4 star hotel catering to business). There was an iron and board, tea and coffee facilities, a safe and a hair dryer in the room.
My bed was big and very comfortable with a lovely fluffy duvet and plenty of pillows. I had a nice view over the fields at the back of the hotel (but not quite the stunning Gorge view which you can get from the restaurant and I assume from some of the rooms). The bathroom was small (no bath) but clean, modern and functional. Everything I needed for my 2 night stay was in place and the room was comfortable.
This hotel is known for its golf and spa breaks and has an 18 hole golf course (plus a golf shop and a 19th hole bar) plus a fully kitted spa with a number of treatment rooms and a relaxation room. There is also an indoor pool with sauna and a fully equipped gym. I did not use the facilities on this visit but have previously used the spa and can confirm it is staffed by wonderful therapists and can be highly recommended.
As part of our delegate package we had breakfast and lunch included in the rate. We also had booked a function style formal dinner for our delegates on the evening of the second day. I cannot fault the food or service at all.
Breakfast is served buffet style in the main bar/restaurant area (with amazing views over the Ironbridge Gorge - weather permitting) and there are a number of outside tables on a decked terrace area too. The buffet was impressive with a hot station serving the usual Full English elements, a fruit and yoghut bar, a wide selection of pastries, cereals and toast making condiments and lots of fresh juices. Tea and coffee are bought to the table for you. On both mornings there was nothing in short supply and plenty of staff about.
Lunch was again buffet style for our delegates and they had provided a wonderful salad bar (greek style, rocket and italian style) a jacket potato station with a number of filling options and then a choice of hot meals (chilli with rice etc). Everything was very tasty and from someone who attends a lot of these kind of events it was a nice change not to be eating cold finger food.
Dinner was a lovely affair, we had opted for a set menu featuring a goats cheese tart, lamb confit and cheesecake and it was all very good indeed. Service to the tables was consistent and professional (no sitting around waiting for anyone to be served).
We had of course liaised with the venue in advance but all of our needs were met and on the day everything went very smoothly. The room we used was set out exactly as requested, all equiptment needed had been provided and the annex room for refreshments worked very well for our delegates, enabling networking around the workshops.
There is plenty of parking for delegates and staff ensured all of our attendees were catered for all day. We paid a delegate rate of around £149 for dinner, bed and breakfast. You can find great deals on the Q hotels website (of which brand this hotel is part of).
Overall we found this Hotel to be the perfect location for large scale events and I would not hesitate to use them again in the future.
