I stayed here recently after being "bumped" from another Warrington hotel on a business trip.
The hotel is around 5 miles outside Warrington central so a definite taxi ride from the station, but has easy access to the M62 and is accessible by road from Liverpool, Manchester and Chester.
Is in a lovely building - although the hotel is newly refurbished - it is made to look quite old fashioned - so expect a traditional oldey worldy hotel reception with a fire. Staff are friendly and smiling - expect that they will greet you with a grin and offer you any assistance that you need.
The hotel is a large one - as it is also a conference centre it seems to go on for ever - take a map as it is hard to navigate the endless corridoors of the hotel!
Rooms are clean and comfortable - expect a large double bed, a bath and shower, a TV with satellite channels and on demand movies.
The bathroom was clean and free of hairs - my pet hate!
The bed was comfortable too and there is internet connections available (although expect to pay £15 for 24 hours) so best to let work pay!
There is a gym and pool which are both great - free to use if you are staying in the hotel. Just go along with your room key and you are free to use all the facilitites - I joined in a step class too which was great fun - you just have to sign your life away saying that you are fit and healthy!
THere is lots of parking in the hotel and good disabled access too!
Food and drink
There is a bar serving bar meals and all the normal drinks that you would expect. I was really impressed with the bar menu as it had a full range of "comfort food" including cheese and onion toastie (with salad garnish) for £3.95 which is not bad. Also available are burgers, pizza, salads and larger meals if that is what you want.
There is a restaurant which looked reasonable and inexpensive but as I was by myself didnt fancy it.
As a female travelling alone I did not feel uncomfortable in the bar by myself - there are lots of arm chairs that you can hide in and read a book.
A buffet which is a bit pricey (£15 but again work were paying), there is the usual continental breakfast plus hot food. The eggs and baked beans looked very dry - although the bacon and sausages looked fresh. I was happy with the quality of the coffee and the fresh fruit and cereal. Expect to see organic yoghurts too - always a good sign.
Very efficient - staff were more than happy to help and there was no queue. Payment was taken and I was on my way very quickly.
Now this was the downside - as I booked at the last minute having been bumped paid £140 for the room plus £15 for breakfast - you can get a much better deal on Hotels.com or expedia if you book early.
A good if pricey business hotel - very friendly staff and good food (if you avoid the egg and baked beans) - would stay there again!
The Park Royal (Warrington) boasts its own helipad.
