I like Novotel. Uncompromisingly modern and unpretentious. If you look out for their regular special offers they can be surprisingly good value. We used the novotel in Heathrow for the second year in a row (our third stay) as a stopping off point in a driving holiday in Europe. I don't find it offers value when we travel out of the airport because of the lack of parking packages and its position outside the free bus system that runs into Heathrow. Although beginning to show its age it remains well maintained and modern. At £70 for 2 adults and 2 kids including an excellent buffet breakfast it was good value. Staff are efficient and attentive. Rooms are bright and modern although less grand that the 4 stars in the area. The pool is very small and the fitness room is very basic. The bar area is a pleasant atrium and the prices reasonable. Breakfast was of the usually good standard. Parking in a secure compound opposite the hotel is convenient.

This is a very clean and very well managed hotel. We had made our reservation through the Plymouth Tourist Information Office only 30 minutes before arriving at the hotel, but all of our reservation details and room were ready for our arrival. The rooms are not enormous but are very clean and comfortable with television, tea and coffee making facilities and en-suite bathroom. The hotel has its own swimming pool, which looked very inviting, but it is outdoors. The food selection for breakfast was vast, with the hot breakfast food freshly cooked and very tasteful. An item that kept the children (of all ages) amused was the toast making machine. This was a self-service conveyor belt system, with bread in one end and toast out the other. The hotel has a large lounge and bar area with a very welcoming atmosphere and quite reasonable prices. The hotel caters well for both families and the business customers. At weekends Novotel often have special deals for family breaks and these are well worth enquiring about. Next time we are in Plymouth we shall certainly be staying at the Novotel.
