Llangoed Hall is set just outside the small village of Llyswen in Powys. 10 miles from Hay on Wye the great Book Town of the World, Builth Wells renowned for the Royal Welsh Show and Brecon for its yearly Jazz Festival. It is said that there has been a house on this spot since 560AD. However Sir Henry Williams built the Hall (or Castle to us locals) around the 16th century. The MacNamaras owned it after it was lost by the Williams in a game of Poker. There is a grave yard nearby which holds the stones of Macnamara and the Rev and his wife. It is a private graveyard situated on the grounds of the Llangoed Estate, which once owned the Hall. Today the Hall is owned by Bernard Ashley (The husband of the late Laura Ashley) and is a fine hotel for guests from all over the world. It has been awarded 5 star accommodation by the Welsh Tourist board and 4 stars by the AA.However it is a wee bit expensive to stay but I feel the price is worth it. It is a wonderment of Antiques and splendour as you enter the main Hall and see the large open fire, the winding staircase with its huge Muriel and the Bedrooms which are individual in their own right. Llangoed Hall has its own Library, Tennis court crochet lawn and grand banqueting facilities to accommodate the largest of fine weddings or company meetings. Truly amazing and full of history the Hall is the best Hotel in Wales (and that’s official!) Check their website if you would like to know more on the history of the Hall. http://www.llangoedhall.com/
