If you want a no-frills cheap hotel in a good central location then this is the right choice for you. I've given it 4 stars based on how well it met what I wanted rather than the quality of the hotel. Location: Ibis Nottingham is right in the city centre, only a few minutes walk from The Lace Market - one of the most popular areas in Nottingham for bars, chain restaurants etc. Therefore if you are going for a city break involving nightlife and shopping this would be a good location for you. It is also 650 metres from the train station. If you are driving it is pretty easy to get to if you are following directions or a Sat Nav, but just bear in mind that if you take a wrong turning Sat Navs can go a bit haywire in city centres while they pick the signal back up and you can end up a bit lost, like we did on one occasion and ending up driving around the one-way system for 15 minutes, so go slowly. Parking: There is a car park pretty much opposite the hotel, but be careful as it is very expensive and will cost around £16 for 24 hours. There are a couple of other car parks only a few minutes walk which are more like £4 for 24 hours, so definitely worthwhile finding one of them. The one we parked in, we got to by going downhill from the hotel (imagine coming out of the hotel doors and turning right) and then following the road round to the right. These are obviously very vague directions so if you want better advice, just ask at the reception of the hotel and hopefully they can point you in the direction of a cheap car park. Price: Apparently rooms start at £42 per night, but we stayed on a Saturday night and booked through LateRooms for £52 which seems to be their going rate. It's a good hotel to stay in if you are a group of friends rather than a couple as they have a lot of twin rooms available, which we struggled to find elsewhere. The Rooms: 'No-frills' is definitely the theme with the rooms and if you want a luxurious or character-filled hotel this is not the place for you. The room we stayed in was fairly small, with a small bathroom which looked like some kind of capsule, it was pretty strange. But for somewhere to stay it had everything we needed and the shower was really powerful which is always nice and refreshing. There was the usual tea and coffee and kettle. Bar: There is a very basic bar in the reception area which makes a good meeting area for friends and to have a couple before you go out, although you wouldn't really want to spend much time there since there are far better bars only a few minutes walk from the hotel. Staff: Friendly and helpful. The only frustrating part of the stay was that you need your room card to get access to the lift and they don't always seem to work which can mean a bit of to-ing and fro-ing to get the staff to help you. Overall, if you want a practical place to stay this is right for you.
