When booking my holiday last year to Cyprus, my partner and I decided to fly from Gatwick airport. We thought we were going to have to get up at 2.30am to drive down to Gatwick and leave the car there (paying extortionate prices) which didn't seem a great start to our holiday. However, I had a brain wave and realised the group of hotels I work for have a hotel near Gatwick Airport. I checked availability with them and they had rooms available for when we required, so I asked my general manager to see if I could get a park and fly package with them. It was all booked up within the day. The general manager of Menzies Chequers advised I booked the park and fly package which was a total of just over £90 which included an overnight stay for my partner and myself and leaving my car there for two weeks! I do normally receive a staff rate of £15 per person so really the cost of parking the car was only £60 which is nothing compared to other car park prices at Gatwick! So we travelled down the day before our flight but didn't arrive at the hotel until 9pm. It was quite easy to get to, the Satnav took us in the right direction and it was noticeably signposted. The lady that checked us in was very pleasant (I should know this as I have been a hotel receptionist for over a year now) and informed of us everything we needed to know. We had already eaten but she did tell us there was a restaurant/bar area ajoining the hotel which was open until 10pm which would have been good had we not eaten. So after directing us to our room we gathered our belongings and made our way on up. Luckily there is a lift in the hotel as it would have been very difficult to carry our suitcases. We got to the room and I was very pleased with it. I think our room had been recently refurbished as it was very modern with brown and beige colours and was extremely clean. It was furnished in the same way as at the hotel I work at so I could tell that it was a standard room. I wasn't bothered that they hadn't upgraded us as we would only be in the room for a few hours. We made ourselves a lovely hot chocolate and snuggled up in bed to get a good few hours sleep. Waking up in the early hours, I decided to have a wash in the walk in shower and use the products i.e. showergel/body lotion. They are standard products, nothing exciting, but better than nothing at all! When we were ready to go, we went back down to reception where we had to put our car keys in an envelope and write a code on the envelope that we would remember so that we could get the keys when we got back. This is obviously for security purposes which was quite good. I did however notice that on the envelope it said that they may have to move the vehicle to a different car park during the time that we were away however it wouldn't be any further than 5 miles away and it would be at the hotel upon our return. This did annoy me a little as I didn't want them to waste my petrol, I spend enough as it is! The night porters on the reception desk (who I'm disappointed to say were not actually that friendly) ordered a taxi for us which came within 5 minutes. The taxi man helped us with our luggage and took us to the airport which took about 8 minutes and cost £5 which I thought was very reasonable. Overall the short stay that I had was very pleasant and the package we booked was really great value for money. I wish I'd known about this package years ago as I would have booked it then! Whenever I fly from Gatwick now, I will be staying, and hopefully leaving my car at the Menzies Chequers hotel.
